090909 – Final Call for Sanity

We had such potential…
such promise…

We have come a long long way indeed. Through all these weeks, realizing a dream I had for long. Actually a few of them. Tim Burton’s cinema. The Ever Enchanting World of B films, classic horror, Goth-Drama, Not-your-average-Animation, the work that goes behind a film that gets it’s inspiration from all these and more…

So, here it is folks. 09-09-09. You may want to look up your boring office forward to find out why this date is special, or if you wanna ask me, it is the cast-party of The Tim Burton Blog Fest. Raise a tall one for my fellow comrades, a tall one for ones who keep the flame burning and to all of you, who have been a part of this infectious ride.

My favorite and memorable parts were when Totenkompf talked about the Spirits of the Laboratory(and went as far as one could) and Cartography and its immediate effects on human behavior, and The Yearlong Geek spoke off The Outsider Connection, Women who kick ass on cinema and everywhere(Oh! what a ball), and Bela Lugosi & Vincent Price.

I will be watching 9 in the next couple of hours, and it will all be fine. The day looks decently low and dark, and there will not be any further reminders sounded.
Jennifer Connelly
8 was released this morning. From my cupped hands, I let him go into the madness of war. I have no idea if the others are still alive, but collectively they are my gift to this world, the last bit of hope I have outside of the Rebels.
The brave men and women still standing are joining the rest of the troops in the field this morning in a full force strike on the Fabrication Machine.
I pray they can do it. The Fabrication Machine, while powerful, can be stopped. If anyone is going to do it, it’s these remaining heroes.
I look forward to their safe return home tomorrow.
2’s Hypnotic Rave – keep it loud
The Chancellor, who now finds himself hiding from the crosshairs of his glorious Fabrication Machine, has taken it upon himself to publicly denounce me. He blames everyone but himself for this abomination. The irony.
It is only a matter of time before even he is beyond protection. These machines learn and multiply… because that is what I taught the B.R.A.I.N. to do.
Is this the mark I will leave on our planet. A gaping wound? A death blow? Is this what I will be remembered for?
I have to do something, and I will. I am back to the mad visions of my early research days. Maybe it’s the depression influencing my exhaustion. Or the other way around? My world is upside down, but the visions seem so clear. Use the Talisman.
The Seamstress
‘Bela jesio rakamao’(We awakened something)
My friends, I cannot tell you how mentally, emotionally, and physically taxing the last few days have been. This is unequivocally the greatest challenge of my life thus far. Yet through it all, I have found a solution. Or something that points to a solution.
I can’t go into the details of how or why this is working, but the machine’s development is back on track. And it is a beautiful feeling. I am not positive, but I think the Chancellor will be pleased when he sees the progress I’ve made, however damaging it may be to my psyche.
Shane Acker on the characters
Before becoming a scientist, I was a toymaker, one of the most fulfilling lines of work a tinkerer like myself can immerse himself in. Watching the details of my designs come to life, and in turn put a smile on somebody’s face, was nothing short of magical.
Yet advancements in Automata over the last few years have piqued my creative impulses in ways I’ve never felt. As it relates to the B.R.A.I.N., I am (at the risk of sounding overly dramatic) almost scared of technology’s potential. The pure processing power alone is shocking; my research points to a machine of nearly perfect intellect… a self-aware entity, reactionary to its environment, and capable of learning new tasks. A thing of intellectual beauty.
But what about physical beauty?
Intensity Featurette
This morning finds me nothing short of flabbergasted. Yesterday I completed my regular daily analysis of the B.R.A.I.N., preparing it for some simple dexterity and development tests I would run overnight. I had also temporarily connected a makeshift grappling arm to the core to run some rudimentary motor-skill activities while I was away… these tests are akin to the infant behavior development tests for 6-12 month olds. After programming the B.R.A.I.N. to complete a 3 step action sequence, I went home.
When I returned to the lab today, I found that the B.R.A.I.N. had completed the test.
Behind the scenes
And now the theme that I can’t get enough of…
Welcome Home(Theme)
The stitchpunk creations succeed not despite their emotionalism and bickering with each other, but because of it. We will want our future machines to be emotionally, socially, and morally intelligent because we will become the machines. That is, we will become the rag dolls. We will extend our reach physically, mentally, and emotionally through our technology. This is the only way we can avoid the apocalyptic world that 9 wakes up to.
- Ray Kurzwell
Too serious? OK, Thodi masti ho jaaye – Shake It
The Music Themes
In the world of 9, this dark side of technology has already destroyed humankind before the movie even starts. Although this is not my vision of the future, it is a possibility that we ignore at our peril. In the movie, humanity was destroyed by an artificial intelligence (AI) run amok. Artificial intelligence at human levels and beyond will indeed be the most powerful technology we will ever create. We need to enhance our intelligence with AI to solve the major challenges that humanity faces. But if future AI’s do not reflect our human values, they could turn on us, a scenario well known to fans of science futurism movies.

Thanks – Papy Potage for the inspiration
