Thanks Utpal. Was at the festival after three years and found that it’s become zannier. But could catch only two films.
It will be interesting if those who have managed to be there regularly share there experiences/review movies they have seen… an appeal to all

Regret it in a way..Any other such fests held in Delhi? Do let me kno..Hope to keep track of the next one atleast…
It’ll be nice if someone who made it to the fest write an article on it here…

I was at Osian this year and ended up watching 23 movies in all, including Kabootar. I loved it. Even though I thought it could have been better edited and/or a little less dramatic in the 2nd half, on the (w)hole,,,,
it shocked me with the unreasonable reasons of its characters, smacked my head with its unflinching dialogs and shook me with its raw energy…
They say it might be banned for its violence/dialogs. I hope and pray its not.
Going by the Censors reasoning, they banned Paanch saying it had no positive characters, in that regard Kabootar won’t have a problem!
Baaki pata nahiin, shaayad unreasonable reasons aur bhi hain…Fingers crossed!

hi kartik. unfortunately I could not catch Kabootar, but I heard mixed responses to it. people have generally liked its storyline and overall treatment, but have been left wondering why it had to incorporate item numbers and all that.

I saw two very interesting Indian films - Hulla and Mohandas - and would write about them here soon. Heard good things about Remo’s Bengali film Lal Paharer Katha (Story of a Red Hill), where Mithun Chakraborty is said to have given a marvellous performance.

    Hi everyone,

Its good too see Osians Cinefan featuring on this website. I work at Osians and was involved in the cinefan. We did recieve an overwhelming response this year.

Though Utpal has posted information thats almost accurate about the jury members there were last minutes changes.

Chantal Akerman, unfortunately, could not make it;hence the Asian Arab Jury consisted of four members.

Mohammed Bakri could not make it to the festival as well, so the Indian competition jury had four members. But his son Saleh Bakri did make it and was the actor in ‘Salt of the Sea’ which won the Special Jury mention as well as the ‘Band’s Visit’ which won the audience award.

Roger Garcia replaced Tony Rayns as member of first Features Jury as Tony too could not make it.

Films that I heard were really good in the Asian Arab competition section( I unfortunately was too busy to catch more than a couple); was obviously “Three Monkeys” by Nuri Bilge Ceylan.’Lemon Tree’ by Eran Riklis;’ Salt of this Sea’ by AnnaMarie Jacir; “Tokyo Sonata” by Kioyoshi Kurosawa; ‘Wonderful Town’ by Aditya Assarat and ‘Yellow House’ by Amor Hakkar.

Highlights of the festival of course was the presence of over 250 actors, directors, producers of the films being screened; so almost every screening was an interactive session with someone who was involved with the film.

It was a cultural potboiler for filmmakers from Arab and asia and a wonderful ambience.

Hope to see you all there next year! the festival just gets bigger and better.
