2012 : Pralay is approaching fast
Rk | Qwiki | October 28, 2009 at 2:09 pm

If we also believe in the forcast made by José Argüelles then we are not far away from a Pralay.
Roland Emmerich’s new film 2012 is based on the 2012 phenomenon.
Present civilization will be destroyed around 21-22 December 2012!
Hopefully a Manu will remain there to carry the existence of human race into a new era.
Leave procrastination follow the dreams!

technically it is NOT the “end of the world” on 2012
BUT i belive something major may hapenn on 2012. don’t forget Mayan civilization was quite adavance and they invented lots astronimical ideas
some say Aliesn will make a contact with us or some say we will enter Satyug(right now we are in kalyug)
let’s hope something hapenns for good because frankly we ned a change
We do need change but Moviefan don’t get your hopes too high :P. Such predictions have been made far too often. BTW, if you think that the Mayans were advanced how advanced do you think we are? You know putting man on the moon and all that. We surely have much more knowledge them!
All such theories are totally baseless and deserve to be treated like what this movie is: fiction.
Sorry, I am a stickler for science and reason.
as for the movie it looks TRASH
ronald emrich is major hack
And I agree. The movie looks trash. Not another overdose of SFX!
CCMAMH i m not keeping my hopes high for 2102. I am just saying Mayans for their times were quite Intelligent civilization. Yes they were were savages too (the whole sacrfising their own people ) but they had advance knoledge on astronomy and they were quite advance in Math.
i m not saying something will hapenn on 2012 BUT universe is one mindnummbimng mystery
we don’t know what will hapenn
While this film looks like another “run of the mill” disaster movie, i would like to mention here that Mayans were not into human sacrifice, it was Aztechs who used to follow this ritual (as shown in Apocalypto but again attributed to Mayans rather than Aztechs, may be because Mayans are more popular)
Aztecs and Mayans both were civilizations in the regions of Mexico and North America. People often mingle both.
It is said that One of the wives of Arjuna hailed from that region.
Darn. How many wives he had? I am aware of only 2.
In addition to the two wives whose names are known to you, Chitrangda and Ullupi have also been widely known wives of Arjuna. And he had made marital ties with many other princesses also.
Ancient India knew American part of world as Patal Lok. Ancient scriptures mention the place, Makshika, a Sanskrit word. Ganesh statues have been found in Mexico also.
Chaman Lal’s book “Hindu America” may give you interesting and thrilling experience.
and Book by Chaman Lal means book by Bhikku Chaman. Dr S RadhaKrishnan had written the forward.
Thanks for the info. Will look out for it.
In other stories of Puranas etc. Patal lok is said to be beneath the earth.
OK. I think I got it if we dig a hole through the Earth to make a way and somehow avoid SHM due to gravity, we’ll end up in somewhere near North America so, yea both theories seem to be correct.
Dig a hole (from India) through the Earth.
In present time we have become habitual to see chronology based on BC and AD only and anything before 320 BC looks as false to modern man.
We have no reason to deny the possibility of interaction of old civilizations with each other in ancient time also as we do it now but somehow we deny these possibilities.
If America’s (North and South) existence is accepted in ancient time also (then this big myth (Columbus) will be destroyed).
also IMHO past civilization were more connceted with nature than us.
May be somebody, somewhere would have already started collecting all kind of species.
People may think otherwise but the only Roland Emmerich movie I enjoyed is The Day After Tomorrow (another flick on disaster). His last one 10,000 BC was his worst.
There is a project underway in Sweden or somewhere in Iceland where they are collecting seeds of all the plants in the world.
It’s being stored in an underground bunker which can withstand a nuclear attack and will remain self-powered for close to two years uninterrupted in case of some tragedy.
I think they have already collected close to 10k seeds.
originally Micahel bay was suppose to direct this movie but he opted out of this movie to direct Transformers 2
intrestingly Ridley scott mentioned that sci-fi genre in hollywood is dead BUT i disgaree
because there are 2 movies coimng up which will bring sci-f- to next level
James cameron’s Avataar and christopher nolan’s Inception
Not a big fan of Cameron but I’ll always be in the line to watch Nolan’s movies.
I do like Speilberg’s sci-fi flicks. He hasn’t made any since War of the Worlds.
If you have not seen Contact (Jodie Foster starrer), watch it. It is based on the novel of Carl Sagan.
Unlike other Sci-Fi flicks this one maintains a long term appeal.
Yea, aware of this movie. Have not seen it though I’ve got it somewhere in a DVD.
If not talking about Hi-Tech sci-fi with special effects then I do have some of the favourites like Tarkovsky’s Solyaris and Stalker, Primer, Dark City, 12 Monkeys etc.
yet to see Primer and Dark City.
not a fan of terminator
Yaar, T3 ruined the series for me (not directed by Cameron though). Haven’t watched Salvation yet.
Terminator is heavy on action so I consider them more as action flicks. I do like first and second one but that alone doesn’t make Cameron a great director for me.
Actually the whole paradox of time travel has not been explained. It seems that 2-3 alternate timelines are existing in Terminator series. After watching better films on time travel which take care of all the paradoxes of time traveling the impression of Terminator fades.
salvation is another hopeless addition to the franchise…hope they don’t make another one…
Coming December should be warmed with Avtaar
hey CCMAMH…first of all its VFX not SFX and secondly just curious…what seems to be your issue with it ??
I thought SFX meant special effects. Anyways thats not the point. I did not particularly enjoy “The Day after Tomorrow”. I basically have two issues with it:
1. I think the disaster movie genre has been exploited endlessly. The novelty has definitely worn off. IMO it makes sense to exploit this genre only if there is a novel idea or a radical change in perspective or something to that effect (for eg: District 9). On watching the trailer, I did not feel like I was watching something new. And using 2012 as the premise is just too predictable and hence lame (again IMO).
2. After experiencing the debacle of Transformers 1 and 2, I am more than a little averse to scenes like : A super large wave is carrying an Aircraft carrier like a surfboard and guess where is it heading? the White House itself. I agree that I should paint my Transformers bias to other Sci-Fi movies but combined with point 1. it just does not seem like there will be anything new here.
Make that “not paint my Transformers bias”.
Hey keep the SFX VFX disaster movies coming. There’s an audience for it. I am part of that audience. I love watching such huge movies (not a fan of meaningful cinema at all). Didnt like Day after tomorrow though. That one looked like a two hour discovery channel program.
They are good to watch. Aren’t they?
The Day after Tomarrow had Jake Gylnewall’s input into the story that’s why it was watchable
i did not even like Independance day i mean cmmon US president suddenly save the whole planet
can it be more idiotic
how i wish christopher nolan was director of 2012
imagine we would have gotten thought provoking disaster movie for a change
Already there is enough scary talk about 2012. India TV is saying that it is almost confirm that it is the end of the world. The way they are saying “Pralay ki tarikh tai ho gayi!”as if they are not going to die.I dont understand what is the sichology of this people who make this kind of film or make a news story out of it. what they wana show the world, look how you are going to die?
If you type ‘Mayan calender’ on google, you will get many sites selling gas masks, instant ration.. most of them are American.
Let me tell you guys this is just one of the interpretations of Mayan Calender. Dont worry guys we gonna live for long.Amen!
joined the party a lil late… what is full form of SFX… i know its for digitalised sound effects but is SFX actually a shorter name for ’sound effects’?
)
…..
@ Movie Fan… looking at the old scriptures books texts and thoughts (real old ones like vedas and mayans and kinds) civilisation as a whole was much more forward than what we have today …. the saying ‘ahead of its times’ would possibly not be the right term… Mayan these days are getting more attention cuz they are the closest intellectually forward ancient civilisation close to US…. and compared to then… today we think we are much more forward only cuz we can speak a global language…. (which does reflect highly on the importance of language…
…………
Mayan calendar saying 12/12/12 being doomsday is as much of a misinterpretation by the media as much as they talk about islam suggesting vigins in heaven … the regular mayan calendar gets over and thats about it… and almost every calendar across every community maintained suggests the upcoming changes in times….
…………
Science also suggests that over long periods (not too sure about the timings of the era so would resist the idea of putting numbers) the 2 sides of the axis, north and south exchange their directions… the poles get swapped with each other… the possible changes around (global warming, ozone thinning) may all be indications for this gradual movement… of course pollution and other factors contributing… but this is not a calamity or a catastrophic change but pure evolution… and the calendars might be getting over cuz then the planetary positions from the astronomical bodies will change from what it would have been
…………
@Valay, you would be even more amazed to know that consultancy companies are already have contingency and back up plans for big companies for the 2012 disaster…. and the companies are investing… (though when you talk to them they will make complete sense as well … their reasons are pretty cool and genuine)
…………
@ RK was it Arjuna or Krishna?
…………
$jahanpanah … Agreed about terminator .. its a kickass action movie… time paradox a lot remains to be explained… maybe in the coming sequals they’ll spend an entire 2 hour drama on that…
…………
Inception .. awaited… Avatar… hmmm.. also awaited
CCMAMH and PS….
ur right SFX means special effects and VFX means visual effects.
the difference is that special effects today mean any kind of stunt or makeup effect like fake blood or bullet flashes from a gun or a car blowing up. However all these are special effects only if they are done on set while filming
VFX or visual effects are effects that use CGI(computer generated imagery) to partially or fully create the shot and this is a part of post-production not filming. What you see in 2012 are 99% VFX
also CCMAMH i agree transformers 2 sucked and this looks like a bigger grander version of ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ from the same director so you are justified in what you say….i still think its a genre and sometimes these movies are great fun. from ur comment i just thought you hate all movies with effects so i was asking….
sopeaking of Avataar
