{Spoilers ahead, like you’d really care haan? The whole movie was a big spoiler anyway. But still spoilers ahead)
Its not excusable. I mean I knew that I didnt have to use logic and the stupid intellectualism here but what sort of fucktards make these kind of films?? You’ll think there are thrills and you think this will be guilty pleasure but that gets killed by the horrible acting and stupid story
1) Thought there would be some cool insight into the Mayan civilization’s predictions but no, thats just a news footage as seen in the trailer
2) Its cliches galore: The indifferent kid, dealing with separated parents would call his dad with first name.. when did I see that before?mmm.. And the dad says: Dont call me Jackson, I am your dad
3) Why was I reminded of Twister?? The protagonist is saving people from the scum of the earth and has his ex-family involved, then the ex-wife would fall in love with the ex-husband and the current husband “understands”? Except that Helen Hunt switches roles with Cusack
4) The wife and current husband in a grocery store are arguing about their relation. The husband says “we need to clear the cracks between our relation” and bam!! A big crack, half a mile long, surfaces between them. How innovative is that.
5) The bad guy has to be Russsian
6)The President is saving people all the time
7) How the fuck did the Lama kid get a pick up truck??
8 This was not excusable: There were blatant scenes which were clearly taken from a handheld or something. It was clear to everyone in the hall that the cameras were changed and my friends were like not in a big budget movie. Sometimes the Cg is apparent and you understand like cities drowning but how do you excuse a rain CG for a close up shot???
9) An Indian scientist who is in India speaks horrible American accented Hindi. Jimi Mistry for you friends..
10) At a time when the world is coming to an end, millions of people are dying, we’re supposed to worry about a family’s future. In the middle of calamity there are jokes, the super cliched middle fingers, and people hit on each other
11) In front of Paranormal activity, in terms of economics, 2012 looks like a dehydrated turd

Darn! Another Roland Emmerich movie with President saving the people. I’ve to agree with vineet on this.
.
Almost all of these type of flicks involve some kind of troubled relationship between the protagonist and his wife, gf, son, daughter etc. and somehow the calamity helps them bring together again. This time it looks like this stuff is coming from the amalgamation of Twister and War of the Worlds.

I thought so. Never had any expectations from this disaster movie. The least I expect from such movies is some great CGI/VFX. I’m still thinking whether to watch this sitting with my friends or watch “This is it” sitting alone.

After watching his last film 10000 BC I felt like killing myself…so in any case not going 2 try this one…I wonder why most of the mainstream media is praising it….according 2 reports it’s even got a huge opening in India…

12) The ship which is supposed to save the world use gears system to close the gates instead off hydraulic system?
if they didn’t use that how they will get that climax scene……

i agree it’s a stupid, F…movie
Obama and Chinese propaganda,White guys are bad guys now and the whole thing is comic, no tears in the movie, Mayan Calendar and Atlantis both were myths.

just came back from this one… a housefull show… was sitting at the stairs to avoid the front row (Reached just before the movie startes)… and for all the hype and trouble… one worded opinion…. bakwaas… I am not a very tech savvy person, to complain about camera work, to me even if the story had some meat or soul it would ve been like 2 stars at least (YES i am the one who gave 3 stars to agyaat) …. this one was a royal close to 3 hours of crap…. the world is ending, okay fine pay importance to those sequences.. nopes… the world just burns out… end of matter… oookkkkaaayyyy, how are people being affected and the emotional turmoils… nopes…. some escape all the others die… end of matter…. ooookkkkaaayyy… at least some research or light on how they go about picking species of animals, or human species…. or at least that Indians specially educated scientists can say HELLO to an foriegn visitor and not a full bowing namaste…. nopes…. some animals selected some people selected … indians die….end of matter….. world does not move for long periods of time (they plan to take a refuel at hawaii to know that hawaii is burnt off, and the flight can go on for another 15 mins only, buuuuuutttt in 15 mins, world suddenly moves by 1500 miles… end of matter…
………………………………….
In a movie like titanic, where we also know that we are dealing with a subject where the ship is about to sink, there are quite a lot smaller stories interwoven to show subtle human emotions… and movie goes into a different platform altogether… be it poor mans extreme dreams coming true, or the class consciousness even within rich folks by comparing the yrs of richness… responsibility and sense prevailing to make sure that panic doesnt prevail till it can be avoided… jealousy, love sacrifice moving into a zone beyond fear of death (the violin players and a quite a few other characters ready die with a brandy…) finally when death strikes, rich poor all in the same boat et al, there are so many things that makes you feel like reaching out to each screenplay… even with a Terminator there are so many instances…. this one…2012… I’d rather die today that 2012, if that can help me get my 3 hours back…. too many things taken for granted, too many assumptions, cliches, hero giving his ‘TALK’ .. presidents getting charged up, giraffes, rhinos and elephants representing all animals taken care of, and in the middle one goofy family, one black president (this one had me in splits), typecasted Indians, Lama for no reason, convinent bumping away of the ‘my wife’s nice boyfriend’, flights taking off on off on, cars driving at the nick of the time.. this movie is kitsch… crap.. garbage… too many things tried to put together and yet not… man… am I charged up….rather stay home and watch Love Story 2050!!!!

I went to watch a spectacular end of the world, and I got to see a spectacular end of the world. It has all the cliches from all the disaster movies (mostly Roland Emmerich’s own). It has Jimi Mistry again playing an ‘Indian’ who says “Hume hamare saaman pack karne hain” in a very obviously Brit accent.
BUT it’s a spectacular end of the world. The mother of all disaster movies. Not New York, not the West Coast, not parts of continents. The WHOLE world gets destroyed. The only way to top this is gonna be destroying the solar system.
If you want lots of depth and characterization even in disaster movies, then don’t bother watching 2012. But if you just wanna see the world getting destroyed and have a few good laughs in between, then 2012 is smashing fun.

you sure watched the movie the way I saw Wanted.. time pass kinds… chalo bahut badhiya, at least somebody enjoyed it…

fully agree. i had a blast. i was never expecting any bombastic story line just some cool sfx and some popcorn fun.

The movie is very predictable and has some silly moments as well. The
solution provided for the crisis is extremely cheesy. But the VFX work is top class and doesn’t disappoint.A typical popcorn and coke kind of a movie. Judging by the audience response its a sure shot blockbuster.I give it a 2.5 star rating.

I never liked Independence Day, inspite of me being a die hard sci fi fan. Patriot was Sunny Paaji in Hollywood. Never watched Godzilla, Day After Tomorrow.
Got bored of disaster flicks, and even more wary of Emmerich, so not even watching this.

3.5/5
This is the ultimate disaster flick. It’s like Volcano, Dante’s Peak, Earthquake, Flood and Roland’s own The Day After Tomorrow, all incorporated into one. I wasn’t expecting it to be anything else or some deep layers in this movie and the movie delivers what it promises i.e. The complete destruction. So what if the whole reuniting with family, black president, everything happening in the nick of time etc. etc. are cliched, at least there was Chiwetel Ejiofor’s character for me whom I liked.
I was thoroughly entertained. If not in one way than in other ways. For ex. The family fleeing away while California is blowing up. It was not supposed to be funny but I was laughing throughout the whole scene.
Thankfully, this time Roland doesn’t provide some solution or the Earth’s destruction is stopped like that in The Day After Tomorrow. Here, the Earth is completely destroyed. Period.
Eventually, I too thought that some Indians should have been saved.

expected a no-brainer disaster movie. got a no-brainer disaster movie. but the way the disaster pans out on screen is wonderful, full marks to visual FX. paisa vasool.

Its a time pass movie, dont waste ur money and time for 2012..

Too bad the government kept it all a secret. Otherwise, someone with actual intelligence would have proposed a much safer and effective way to save a lot more of humanity… of course, that would have been a boring movie, but it would still have had the visual F/X, which is really the only merit I found in the movie…
