Oh come on, don’t tell me you actually like all the adaptations that have been done so far? One Night @ … was a bad book and even worse a movie so I’m not talking about that. But 5 Point.. was actually a decent read, you’d know if you did read. Book maintained a subtlety but the trailer depicts that movie has the “Grand” feel to it.. That’s all..
It’s your mistake if you compare books by Chetan with the books by writers like John Grisham…

well the book ain’t that great, true…esp for people who are not from the engineering background…..but for the ones who have been through the rigors of an entrance and then an engineering college it’s one of the best books around.
And that number is quite large in my opinion

@Vineet – I am from an engineering background. Merely mentioning a few engineering classes and technicalities to make it look real does not make the novel a classic, does it?
The novel started off very well, and had a great premise as well as promise. But Chetan Bhagat made it very clear in some of the incidences of the novel that he was looking to provide a masala pot boiler under the guile of a real setup, and boy he did! THAT my friend was where the book started to falter. One night @ Call Center carried forward the parampara, and 3 mistakes..less said the better.

Inspile of being an IITian , i found book more of a masala and he cashed in simply on the brand value of IIT.
I read nothing after FPS by CB. Heard he is out with his latest book.

yea…well it’s not a classic….but how many of these books do you see on the stands, I liked FPS, but after that I agree, it was masala all the way.

Actually haven’t seen the whole promo but somebody else who has seen it described it as marvellous. He also put a description of it. This is just the end part of the promo and people may draw wrong conclusions from it.

Madhvan: hamne to bachpan se yehi suna tha ki life ek race hai
Sarman: tez nahi bhagoge to koi tumhe kuchal ke aage nikal jayega
amir: sala peda hone ke liye bhi 300 million sperms se race karni padi thi.. lol
then sharman says: 5 baj ke 15 minute pe mera janam hua
Madhavan: aur 5 baj ke 16 minute pe “mera beta engineer banega”
Aamir: hame kya banna hai, kisi ne pucha hi nahi…
then there was a very funny classroom scene … and some more funny scenes in quick speed .. can’t recall as of now.
in the end Kareena says: Get Lost
aamir: yaha kitna shor hai naa, yeh muje thank you bol rahi hai or mujme get lost sunai de raha hai.
all and all .. seems like a very funny version of 5 point someone

Was never too excited about this movie. Though, very likely it is going to be a hit.
looks interesting! and relieved to find its not a total rip-off of the book…the book’s good, but not sure if it cud be made into a good movie!

Bahooot awaited hai boss. Read an article that Aamir is so impressed that he, Madhavan, Raju Hirani, etc are not taking any money. Rather they are willing to take a share in the profits.

I haven’t read the book so had no idea what the movie is all about. This promo is a bit disappointing. Forced humour and miscast actors. Or maybe I was expecting too much from the Aamir Khan-Raju Hirani combo.
What ever is shown on the trailer is not the actual movie…the movie has much more depth dan wat has been shown in the triler..distributors have already seen the movie and.declared it as a landmark..a rare gem between..humour and emotions..and its NOT at all like the book..xcpt the thematic premise…get ready to b surprised…promo is not like wat movie is..and yes..the book was average..nothin xceptional..but movie is goin to b..as its not sam as the book….
I am actually surprised reading the comments here .. people have been nice to it .. I am not judging the movie yet but Trailer sucked .. nothing in it really awed me or tickled me either … the joke in the last scene of the trailer goes flat … even the Ghajini trailer wasn’t really awesome but at least it made it pretty clear what to expect from the film .. this one doesn’t even do that..big big disappointment considering it is one of the most awaited and talked about film of the year … the song in the trailer wasn’t that good either .. you can download it from here also ..

How can someone not like Five Point Someone
, well then I guess not everyone has gone through a back breaking entrance and then the rigors of a four year engineering course. 
I found FPS to be a mediocre book. Hope the movie is much much more than the book.
And 4 years in IIT was not at all rigorous, far from it. In fact on comparing with other colleges it was amazingly easy.
Also I dont agree that you have to study in IIT to appreciate the book for the mediocarity it was.
what a classic book…I took up farming after turning the last page. There was no more desire left to read any other book.

I would have loved this storyline for the film going by Aamir’s age : a guy tries to crack IIT entrance again n again , taking multiple drops until he finally cracks it at the age of 40 (ignoring the fact that there are limited attempts) …he reaches college , his raging harmones take over and he falls in love with a girl who cracked it in the first attempt …
or how about IIT’s dissolve this whole fucking idea of entrance saying we get insulted by uncles that old playing our students.
40 year old student was still acceptable in Munnabhai MBBS but not in this one.
Movie isn’t based on IIT, I think.It’ll be bad if it is.

btw, bakwaas trailer, not a surprise though. I hate this so called Hirani-brand idea of entertainment. their films suck. better the realization comes later than never.
I didn’t like 5 Point Someone. Found it quite banal and over-hyped. I think the trailer is far more interesting – it hints of far greater complexities that the novel could have ever explored. But yes…in that way…I guess it’s going to be very different from the novel.

I think it will be a light hearted comedy..without the usual akshay kumar or dawid dhawan or priyadarshan brand of comedy….
Munnabhai series…raised quite a few issues without being preachy…and in a very light comedy manner..which i like… not all movies need to be complex…
Going by his Cola-animation Ads, Aamir Khan can play a cool college dude for another 5 years, at least. Maddy and Sharman Joshi don’t matter. They could be playing Aamir’s gruffy professors and no one would care as long as Aamir walks away with all the smart lines, the best girl & the acccolades.
Granted his plastic surgeon isn’t as good as SRK’s, but what’s wrong in expecting another thoughfully restrained yet thoroughly prepared performance from ‘The’ method actor?
trailer sucks , aamir looks old and is over doing his act , aamir must realise he cant do the same things again and again and should do non gimmicky roles. and what to say of the trailer, it tries to be too cool but falls flat . as far as the book , it was an average book . like archies written more seriously or something but i agree when someone above said , atleast the book had real characters and real people , this one seems too grand and old actors even if its their flashbacks .who wants to see these guys do stupid things ,total miscasting , remember yuva ,and the movie doenst have any charm , looks like someone thinks himself to be too smart , here i am hinting at the actor , director and the producer.
May be this is a strategy to not reveal the interesting parts of this movie, otherwise the trailer is mediocre. Amir and Madhavan too look too over-aged for college.
Actually its adapted very loosely from “5 POINT SOMENE” so the film will digress a lot from the book. A majority of the film will be original & parts adapted.
Looks like the movie will deal more with life after college.
