First, hearty congratulations to Om Puri Saab on getting Life time achievement award. He has got many national and international awards till now and his gloroious filmography is known to all cine lovers.
Konkana Sen Sharma said/read names of some of the remarkable films of Om Puri Saab and she mentioned name of Gulzar Saab’s film Hu Tu Tu also as one of the remarkable films of Om Puri Saab.
Om Puri has worked in Maachis of Gulzar Saab and not in Hu Tu Tu.
Considering the fact that this was life time achievement award and a writer might have written Konkana Sen’s lines, this seems a big mistake on part of the script writer.
Hope such mistakes are not repeated in future.

Ha-ha! So actors are muppets…? Indian actresses don’t question the script, do they?!!
Ha Ha Ha..
I had also noticed this while watching the program and told my friend sitting next to me!
Apart from hindi cinema,Om Puri is the first indian actor who got sustantial work in international movies and made a mark for himself.
But i sincerely hope he stops working in Priyandarshan comedies because in his later movies the characters he is playing are too Ghatiya..
Considering the fact that is was a life time time award i felt the whole affair was wrapped too fast.more ppl should have come to stage to say good words for him and make the moment memorable.
Geez, are people so lazy to Google or Wiki, for gettign the right information. And was expecting better from Konkona.
Bharat Bhusan,
Remember nowadays its a TV Show not an award function:)
Still when its a “Life Time Achievement” award, given by a group (and magazine) who are field experts for so many decades, one can not expect and tolerate such mistakes.. and then he just rushed through with his little speech as if there was a timer and time was running out, while I was waiting for him to speak…
@Pavan,
It was sad indeed that he spoke so little. He is such a good actor and it was really difficult to conclude whether he did not speak much because he was given less time or he had become so emotional while Amitabh Bachchan was praising his work and craft. On his part it was a great control over his emotions because for some moments I got the idea that he was going to have tears in his eyes but he controlled and spoke without giving any clue of the emotions he was passing through only few seconds ago.
What an amazing voice he has got to say ,
” Tishnagi na manate to aur kya karte,
jashn-e-shola na manate to aur kya karte,
andhera mangne aaya tha roshni ki bheekh,
hum apna ghar na jalate to aur kya karte“.
Recital of a sh'©r, becomes heavy on the whole of the film Love songs.
Hope to see him getting significant films in future. When Hindi cinema will wake up to use briliant talents, alive in the present era, in a significant way?
Time is passing fast and hugely talented people are forced to live a barren creative life. what a pity.
Poet was right when he wrote,
Hans chugega dana tinka, kavva moti khayega.
and people controlling mainstream cinema have been biased in not recognising proper value of hugely talented Om Puri, Naseerudin Shah and Pankaj Kapur at right time and this can be the reason that out of dignity Om Puri did not speak much. If he had said more about how he was feeling good to get a recognition by mainstream hindi cinema at this age then later people could have made an issue out of his sayings.
I remember seeing him saying to Naseeruddin Shah, on TV show Jeena Isi ka naam hai (hosted by Farooque Sheikh), something very significant about the films he and Naseer had done in the past. He was spot on.
But surely when an award function is bestowing a life time achievement award upon a person then its simple courtesy to show the clippings of remarkable work of that person and few knowledgeable people should be asked to say on the person and his craft.
Pity thing is they do it when they give award to people belonging to main stream commercial cinema.
Why to waste time on jockery and dance items by film stars, when proper respect and focus can not be given to deserving people getting awards?
During the Max Stardust Awards held recently at MMRDA…Anil Kapoor was given an award in recognition of completing 30 years in the industry. Now it was a surprise award for him after he finished performance on stage to dance numbers right from My Name Is Lakhan to Jai Ho…
)
What do u expect at this moment? A surprised Anil will give an impromptu speech right? well he did but what the audience didn’t notice that this speech was read from the teleprompter
At the Screen Awards, Amrita Rao forgot to read Neeraj Pandey’s name for Best Director. She only read Ashutosh’s name for Jodhaa Akbar. Ashutosh came and collected the award and gave his thank you speech. Then Amol Palekar who was with Amrita said that she was nervous and forgot to mention Neeraj Pandey’s name for A Wednesday. Neeraj then came on the stage and accepted the award. It was ridiculous. It felt like Neeraj was given some concession prize because the audience had already applauded Ashutosh for winning the Best Director award.
I was dissapointed by such a small speeh by Om Puri. Would have loved for him to speak more, give us more anecdotes have other people close to him talk about om Puri..what he means to them, Indian cinema and cienma in general.
But Bhanu Athaya spoke even less..there is so much which is not known about her..while it was commendable for Fimfare to give these two Lifetime achievement, a better way to present them would have been nice!
Anyways, i loved manjot Singh’s speech..that guy was hillarious..
BTW did you guys se oz in the audience with the MMJ team?
Anyways..does anybody watch the item songs these days at the awards function? It is so boring!! they will perform for 7-8 mins, change costumes, two-trhee different songs…same shit same shit same shit..over and over again…
Chalo, atleast ‘Hu Tu Tu’ came up at the awards, even if it was unintentional.
That film has been grossly ignored BIG TIME!
All I want to ask is why these shows are conducted
mostly in English ?while its all about Hindi Cinema.
One more thing, Om Puri Sahib is one the great
actors Hindi Cinema has.I think the organisers
should have played some of his movie clipse from Jane Bhi do Yaro up to now.I think they should start doing it for actors who get life time acheivement awards
Om Puri spooke more than what was shown on TV. Maybe sony edited his speech to accomodate more ads. Part of his speech can also viewed at youtube.
Long live youtube!!!
