thank god they didn’t give to srk or aamir for best actor!
Well there will be some complaints but very happy on knowing Frozen has won 2 awards – Best film by a debutant director and cinematography- Shanker Raman.Congrats to Shivajee Chandrabhushan and team.
Also its nice to see Priyan finally turning award winning director- will this bring some change in his filmmaking?Lets wait and see.
Hey Sethu…not to forget Prakash Raj getting his first National Award….and also Shanker Raman (cinematographer of Frozen)…and Thiru the cinematographer of Kanchivaram was very close…but Shanker Raman made it…..both films Frozen and Kanchivaram are beautifully shot
Sridhar, i think u meant Prakash Raj 1st National Award as Actor, he had earlier won the National Award for Best Supporting Actor(Iruvar).
Also mention to be made of Girish Kasaravalli, this is the 3rd time an actress in his movie gets a National Award after Jayamala(Thai Saheba), Tara(Haseena) and now Umashree(Gulabi Talkies). Not to mention that Girish himself has won the National Award for 4 of his movies. One of the best directors, and his movies are so rooted in the Kannada native ethos, you can actually smell the soil, and feel every inch of the native millieu.
Nope Ratnakar garu..I really thought this was Prakash Raj’s first…anyways his performance in Iruvar was wonderful.
Forget about Girish Kasaravalli, just look at Adoor Gopalakrishnan….I think he’s almost hit 9 with this one….What a feat!!!
Prakash Raj also got a special jury award for his acting in Mani Ratnam’s Kannathil Mutthamittal at the 50th National Film Awards, 2003. I met him at the award ceremony, as a fellow awardee, and found him to be extremely down to earth. One thing I won’t forget about him – he told me that he had never changed his mobile no, and never would. His acting in Kanchivaram is quite outstanding.
Prakash Raj looked every inch a Sri Lankan in KM, right down to the accent, we have a term in Telugu for that “paatra lo parakaya pravesam”, means to enter into the soul of the character literally. Prakash Raj is that kind of an actor, away from his standard Dad/Villian template roles in masala flicks, he comes up with these kind of stunner performances.
no he didnt ratnakar.
even the friggin news channels got that one wrong
i saw gulabi talkies some months back in bangalore…the first half is beautifully shot…and the acting is brilliant esp. by umashree…i somehow thought that the second half tried to address/raise too many issues and thereby the poetry was a bit amiss…
Unfortunately haven’t seen Frozen yet, but yes Kanchivaram was exquisitely shot. Paintings on canvas, that’s what the scenes were…
Have to see frozen somehow now…
Both films were beautifully shot no doubt. But Frozen is one of the best shot films to come out of India in decades! And the guts to do it in black and white entirely.
Thiru is a fantastic cinematographer, but Shanker Raman is a visionary cinematographer.
I don’t think Thiru would have given Shanker an iota of competition here.
@Cherish,
why so serious, remember Raveena had got it for Daman.
Saif for Hum Tum.
n karishma for DTPH… that was height of call what you want stupidity/chu**yapanti….
@Alter,
oh yes, may be it had to do with Karishma’s legs
But still imagine the jury to create popular entertainment award and such crap? is it necessary at all? Filmfare does this everytime to felicitate Bachchans, Khans and Akshays
I hope you meant this in general and not a comment on this year’s jury….because this award for film providing ‘wholesome entertainment’ has been there for many years.
yeah, i meant it in general. Filmfare invents newer awards everytime though. Most of the time this award goes for a pretentious Bollywood movie mostly to appease the bigwigs.
congrats to all the winners, and especially to Frozn team. Gauri Kulkarni’s (Lasya of Frozen) film “Nirop” has won the best Marathi film award. Another reason for Frozen team to celebrate..
Long live Shivajee, long live Frozen….
@Jha,
You must be really happy for Frozen
oh, i cant tell u how happy i am.
.
btw, the film is releasing in kolkata on 11th of sep, 09, and i am flying down there to watch it with my friends n family.
.
anyone from kolkata, please try to make it, if u can.
@Jha,
I hope you do not host a premiere also there.I guess Shivajee should pay you a percentage from Dvd sales.
shivajee is a very close friend already, and i hv zabardasti snatched a part of the ownership of the film from him, so now i just promote my film in whatever way possible.
.
nahi yaar, too short a time for the premiere in kolkata, but saturday afternoon show is on my account for all my frnds n family in kolkata and fellow-friends of PFC.
.
come one, come all, come in droves, n make it a success!!!
@Jha,
i am waiting for your Mumbai visit, when you will sponsor my ticket.
@Jha
on other note, see the irony, after the whole world appreciates our movie, our government is appreciating it.
chalo, der aaye, durust aaye. thats what i told shivajee today immediately after the results were announced.
now thats awesome… very happy for Shiva-jee & Team… Debut aisa hai to aage kya hoga… Cheerz !!!!
teri toh nikal padi bhidu…!
ye to wahi waali baat ho gayi ki subah subah mooh khola aur ho gayi beer ki barsaat!
am also very happy for CDI, JWM, TZP, Tingya, OSO, The Last Lear that made to the list…
@Sethu
@Satyendra
Thank you very much.
@cinemausher
Your last comment was uncalled for.
@Shivajee,
Congrats.
as Jha said better Late Than Never.
@Cinemausher
Congrats Shivajee sir! Don’t take too long for the next one now!
Congrats Shivajee Sir and Team!! All the best for your next venture
Am very happy that Ore Kadal won (Best picture- Malayalam). PFC waalon, abhi to mera pending review publish karo!
Am very happy for Gulabi Talkies as well (Best picture- Kannada). Had heard such good buzz about it. Make mental note to watch it. Also Periyar (Tamil)…
It’s so sad that there are so few entries from Telugu films and no award given to Best Film (Telugu). Such a vibrant film industry with only the rare quality product…
I had watched Gulabi talkies in Blore intl film fest this yr in january and definitely it was a touching story and UMA deserved this award
If Priyadarshan is such a talented film-maker which he has ably demonstrated through Kanchivaram, I really wonder why he came up with such crappy films in the past..!!
He has said it himself. He’s done it for money.
Thank you guys….
Hey Shivajee…its time movie hits Bangalore. You promised it long back!!!
Its very happy moment that all well deserved films have won quite unbiased this time. But the question arises here,Can this movies be ever telecasted on TV for national viewers sake ?
Hi Yayaver. DD telecasts these films one by one but very rarely they publicise them well enough for people to know. There was time, when we were in school, that DD used to telecast these films every Sunday at 1:30 pm. that’s how we had got introduced to films from other parts of India, sitting in Guwahati. Remember, those were the pre-dvd days, and DD was the only source for such films. One very good source to watch award-winning, new and old films, from various parts of India is Lok Sabha TV. It telecasts such films every Saturday at 9 pm and repeats the same film the next day at 2 pm. keep an eye on Lok Sabha Tv programme which comes out as an ad in major newspapers. The best thing about this channel is that it shows the films without any break. And they very often show rare gems from the past. Only last week it was the Bengali film Parashuramer Kuthar.
Sorry Utpal for late reply. Thanks for mentioning about DD. But only DD is national channel and all other private players who had came for providing people with more choices, where are they ? I can see HOLLYWOOD but indian cinema stands no chance if the condition prevails like that…
Here are the notes from the Film Awards:
For Shivajee’s film Frozen the award was given for, “…bringing to life with warmth and vivacity life in those distant desolate snow bound heights where existence itself is a fulltime challenge.”
For Shankar Raman, Frozen (Best Cinematography), “For the artistic and technical excellence of cinematography revealed through superb
reproduction of tonalities and stark compositions, maintaining the texture on high altitude.”
Congratulations Shivajee and team!
Ouseppachan ki jai!!!
Everyone thank you very much…
frozen by any chance is going to be released in bangalore?
Prakash raj is fantastic actor. I liked his performance in iruvar, daya, abhiyum naanum, gilli (chellam). i have not watched kanchipuram.
Heartiest congratulations to Mr Chandrabhushan. Your film was fab.
Best Hindi Film – 1971
I dont think many have seen it. Its a shame really that even after winning the national award it will die a natural death. The film tells a story about of Indain Prisoners of War who are waiting for their death in Pakistan with a hope that some one would listen. It seems that this is the case with Indian cinema too.
