……says his fan Mr Noor.

I havent seen Nagesh Kuknoor’s film 8 x 10 Tasveer yet. Will watch it on sunday. But a freind who is Nagesh Kuknoor fan saw it first day first show and sent this mail….

Never thought I’d say this, but in light of Bombay to Bangkok and now Tasveer, being a Nagesh Kukunoor fan seems like an embarassment. Can’t believe it’s the same guy who gave us Bollywood Calling, Dor and Iqbal.

The plus points: extremely beautiful locales – Alberta, Canada, if I’m not mistaken. Javed Jaffery as another quirky, love-it-or-hate-it character (the audience liked him, and I did too, although the rest of the movie didn’t gel well with him). And…..hell, hard to think of any. Oh yes, the opening credits were superb.

The minuses:
1. I have a mild headache.

2. Amazingly lazy direction in several scenes. No urgency. Too many illogical character choices which only serve to zabardasti keep the plot forcefully moving in a pre-ordained direction.

3. Very jarring acting by some of the other people. And very bad casting of goras. Why do we see only the bad gora actors in Indian films?

4. Akshay Kumar is a great action hero and has become good at comedy, but this role needed someone with stronger acting chops. Maybe the talented Zayed Khan – then we would at least have been able to laugh.

5. Very weakly defined character relationships. There are several types of friends – friends you greet by saying ‘Hi Amit’, friends you greet by saying ‘Hey’, friends who you don’t have to greet at all – you straightaway plop down on their couch and fall asleep. Maybe it doesn’t matter in this movie – but I feel it sticks out like a sore thumb when characters say to each other for the benefit of the audience ‘Tu mera sab se achchha dost hai.’ Do we really ever say such things to our truly most intimate friends?

6. The twist ending is something I’d almost correctly guessed. It’s literally the same as in a Blondie comic strip when Dagwood stops everyone from telling him what the twist ending of a hot new movie ‘Twisteroo’ is. When he ultimately goes to the video store to rent it, the clerk says “Oh, isn’t that the one in which
***SPOILER HERE***”
After the twist, it seriously felt like Abbas Mustan had taken over direction.

Akshay Kumar – i have a secret.
Nagesh – bhaaagoooooo…..the secret is out now!!

Well i watched this movie today, and i have to say the only part i liked about this movie was the revelation of who the killer is.And boy it hits you like an uppercut when ur expecting a jab.For that alone i cant recommend this movie but the climax is truly great(they do manage to screw the climax by altering what should have been, but still its shocking).

I thought Nagesh stood for originality and not for using an already done to death (hello 2 movies by Hollywood done on it already)

Tasveer has NOTHING to do with The Butterfly Effect.
    It’s not a good film – that’s a different matter.

Your friend has to be a genius. Guessing this killer was tough. In fact the resolution was so unbelievable that only a five year old could’ve come up with it.

Jitesh…it’s not that tough. Just pick the most unlikely suspect. Plus there’s the Blondie comic strip which literally is the answer. And then you have The Sixth Sense, Hide and Seek, Fight Club etc etc

Nagesh Kukunoor is one helluva overrated director. Most of his films are heavily inspired from other sources. The much acclaimed Dor is a copy of national award winnig Malayalam film Perumazhakkalam (Heavy monsoon).

He is not or rather never be in the league of top Indian directors. So 8×10 Tasveer is obviously a wash out.

IMHO, Nagesh K is a thoroughly over rated director. Stopped watching his movies long time back. To me he looks like some one who pretends to be inteliigent but in actual is the an average bollywood director. Give me a Abbbas Mustan Suspense movie anyday…atleast they dont claim/pretend to be intelligent/path breaking…

True. I after seeing the CHEVROLETs, and SUVs, mountain bikes, the gears, apparels, stunts and the houses- it does look like a Abbas Mastan movie.

Bombay to Bangkok was bad, but atleast Vijay Maurya was a treat as JamK there.

Clearly someone flew over Kukunoor’s Nest this time.
Though, there only two major clues in the movie to guess the ‘whodunit’ and it was not easy.
The title credit was outstanding though.

    Cheers!
