aanuraag kaasyap kaa jokes

It’s the irony of this field…fanatics from various states come to this industry with a dream. But not everyone ends up being what he wanted to…..some guys who wanted to be a director are cutting soaps as an editor, some who wanted to be an actor are serving water in production houses. As soon as you’ll enter a place like lokhandwala, suddenly you’ll find a very different crowd around you… Its not a typical mumbai crowd….because majority are these aspirant or so called strugglers and professionals are non-mumbaikars. So whether its Fun Republic, Adarsh Nagar, Barista, Mhada Colony. Their talks, gesture, behaviour, appearance everything is lil filmy.

Last week I had to edit a low budget AV for my architect friend….so I hired a small time FCP studio at lokhandwala…I dint realize Jaisa daam vaisa kaam…. the editor I got was a hardcore bengali babu named ‘Jeetdada’….speaks in fullon bengali accent…Jeetdaz appearance is as weird as putting head of kishor kumar from padosan over body of Rajpal Yadav of Company…

I reached studio lil late and I found him sleeping over his editing chair…I woke him up and he started refreshing himself, “Dada suru kare kya?..main kaabse aapa rasta dekha fir merako jhapki aa gaya……..ae chhotu dada ka liye chai banao” Well we stared, I had got VO(Voice Over) done by some artist from sound studio which he had to use.

Jeetda played it and said, “Dada maaja nahin aa raha hai. Sound barabar mix nahin kiya hai. Mera khayal se riberb nai daala hai….aap wapas sound wale ko dikha ke aao”.

Even I was getting the same feeling so I took the VO for check and got it corrected. Dada played the corrected file and said, “Dekho dada keetna pharak pad giya……mera ehi ek prablem haai, kuchh bhi kam rahta hai to main bol dega….main pahla direcsaan mein tha na.”….for him it was his glorious past which he wanted to tell me about.

I asked him, “kya direct karte the tum?”…

Jeetda: mai assistant director tha…ham jaabi 2001 mein baambai aaya to saabse pahle Star tv ka serial kiya tha ‘Darr’….taabhi main aanuraag kaassyap ka saath kaam kiya tha…arre bahut bhaari serial tha…suparheet!!!…….wo time ham logka budget teen laakh tha par episode….socho 2001 mein teen laakh kitna tha…ham log idhar hi soot karta tha outdoor, crane trolley sab leke!!!

I was quite surprised to hear Anurags name, so I started throwing some more questions to him, “Arre waaah anurag ke saath kaam kiya hai….lekin tab tak to uski satya aur shool aa chuke the”

Jeetda:
“Arre haan…wohi time to wo Paanch bhi kiya…KK aur Bijay Maurya ka saath….aabhi no smoking kar raha hai…..Darr mein ye sab log tha…Irrphaan, KK, Harrs(Harsh Chhaya), Bijay Mauraya.”

Me: Kya baat hai!!!….KK aur Irrfan? Kaise karte the wo kaam?

Jeetda: Are Irrphaan to hamesa se bahut bhaari actaar thaa….lekin bahut haarami..itna haarami actor nahin dekha…saala aisa aisa cue deta tha dusra actor log ko ke sab log hairaan ho jaaata tha…..KK ka saath uska baahut jhagda hota tha….wo usko climax ka dilogue ka cue beech mein deta tha aur KK ki phat jaaati thi…..phir wo bhadakta tha, ye kya tum poora lineup khaarab kar raha hai!!……arre wo sabko hairaan kiya tha.

Me: Tumhari baat hoti thi Irrfan se?

Jeetda: Are bahut simple tha baat karne mein…wo time wo bhi ek trillar serial plan kar raha tha…ham log ko uska plan batata tha…wo jaisa philam mein acting karta hai, waisa hi baat karta hai.

Me: aur kk?

Jeetda: KK to uska saamne kuchh bhi nahin tha….baachcha tha…tabhi bhi hakla tha, aaj bhi haklaata hai….dekho na aaj bhi Irphaan ko keetna copy karta hai…uska jaisa hi moo tedha karke baat karta hai…Irphaan ko sirph ek hi aadmi challange karta tha, Bijay Maurya……Bijay Maurya ko jante ho??

Me: Haan wo black friday ka dawood na…wo sach mein itna achha actor hai?

Jeetda: Haan….wohi…are kya acting karta tha…Irrphaan ko bhi uska saath bahut maja aata tha….usko koi industry mein barabar use nahin kar paaya…sirf Anurag uska saath Paanch kiya, KK ko leke…

Me: aur Harsh Chhaya?

Jeetda: wo actor to achha tha magar saala thoda pagal tha…sooting ka time bhag jaata tha….merko mera director bolta tha, are Hars(Harsh) pe najar rakhna bhag nai jaye…..ekbar to wo sooting ka liye aaya, do shot kiya aur paisa maangne laga…nai mila to sooting chhod ke chala gaya!

Me: Aur anurag kaisa tha kaam aur nature mein?

Jeetda: aanurag to baahut sahi aadmi tha…uske kaam ko main maanta hoon…wo sooting ke liye aata tha to sirf chaar line likh ke laata tha……sirf char line….phir sabke saath baithta tha aur wo line sabko bolke bolta tha…are Irrphaan ye scene hai, tu bol kya dialogue bolega…aur pheer poora script taiyaar hota tha…

Me: aur baat vagere karne mein?

Jeetda: mera kaabhi anuraag se itna direct baat nahin hota tha…haan ek aur cheej ke liye main usko maanta hoon…aanuraag non-veg jokes sahi maarta tha….wo chutki baja ke sau non-veg jokes maar sakta hai…are has has ke ham log paagal ho jaata tha. Bahut bada unit tha ham log ka…fir hamaara director ka kuchh problam ho gaya…tabhi aanuraag ka bhai aabhinav direct kiya…lekin wo utna nai chala paaya…uska baad Kaun Banega Karorepati aaya to ham log ka vaat lag gaya…bohot loss ho gaya…channelwala bolne laga ke ab band kar do….fir thoda episode ke baad band ho gaya!
Main anurag baasu ka saath bhi kaam kiya hai….wo bhi babhut sahi aadmi hai…uska filam me itna sex scene rahta hai par usko ladkibaaji ka koi sauk nahin hai…industry mein aisa achha aadmi log bahut kam hai.

Me: are dada chalo chai khatam ho gayee….kaam chaloo karte hain!

Jeetda: chaalo chaalo!

well am going tomorrow for my final cut…lets see what more I get during chaitime.

Mixed thoughts here… if this is work of fiction then it’s funny… but if in fact, the guy told it to you all in confidence it doesn’t feel right to publish the conversation - atleast a lot of his inner thoughts online… the other side of me says it’s ok if you haven’t revealed the person’s real name or identity… just wanted to add that this would have been perfectly fine if you were offering the above opinions… maybe I’m just being too critical here… :)

As a reader I found it to be very real… Don’t know whether it was made up… Don’t know if Ashish is a journo but oz is write there are things you know and you write and there are things you know and you don’t write. The above does seem to fall in the latter category but like all things not-so-right this does make for a fascinating read…

this is a known phenomenon. if you wanna listen to plenty of stories you speak to the people who are responsible for getting the not so glorified jobs done - you will never be able to tell how of it’s fact and how much is their own creativity, but the stories would be mindblowing alright.

ashish // i have one question though. oz has asked it already. is jeet da aware that his words are/would-be published for public consumption?

The article is in bad tone/taste and doesnt deserve any place here. If anyone wants to badmouth then he should do so in public. The person, in the article, was taken in confidence and egged to say his personal opinion, which he wouldnt dare to make public elsewhere. This is what I get from the article. Also the person Jeet is not arguing about the acting capabilites of different actors, he was merely rambling about what he saw or what he thinks he saw. May be I am being cynical and its funny.

Hey Anish tell Jeetda Mainak from LA said hi.

OZ this is totally true. I have heard half of this blog 3 years back myself.

first clarification, i never went on the sets of Darr, it was entirely my brother’s baby..he wrote and directed it, i was only part of the concept..
and what he says about my jokes, it’s hearsay because he was working with all my friends..
he never could have met me as i was busy dealing with my depression, i was underground at that time

If Mainak can actually identify this person, he’s probably real.

Ashish, I hope you got his permission to print this. Can you please confirm?

Otherwise it is a huge violation of trust and it has no place on PFC. If Mainak can identify him, maybe others can too and it could hurt this poor chap.

Guys guys….easy…yeah Jeet wasnt aware when I wrote it, but after your comments I spoke to Jeetda and asked him if he has any issues with it…and he is absolutely cool with it…yeah one thing he said that, “Anurag ke baare mein nahin likhna chahiye tha, lekin ab theek hai”…so Anurag am very sorry for it, he might not be true about your chapter!

and Mainak, yes Jeetda do remember you…he was very happy and excited to know about you…he told me you were part of Prakash Jhas production and were associated with Gangajal, later you went for your film studies…he said nowdays you don’t come online for chat…He has asked you to call him if possible…mail me on mailashishshukla @ gmail.com if you need his no…also if anyone has doubt over this conversation can mail me for the same..

Omprakash: I dont agree to you buddy. It wasnt any argument, it was just a tea break light chat…and he wasn’t badmouthing anyone, its a very normal talk which film buffs do at coffeehouses or bars..

    Hi Ashish

Thanks for this post. I think you have written it in a rambling style and it does come across that Jeet da was just chatting it up with you and without any particular malice intended at any people that he mentioned.

    Keep it coming!

    Cheers,

  11. Shripriya on July 31st, 2007 1:35 pm

Thanks for the clarification Ashish. Glad you got his okay. :)

In future, it is probably best to check before you post - I say that with all good intention!

    Cool Ashish
Alright that you needed to take consent of the individual, but nevertheless it was a cool slice of life thing. A different point of view of jeet da which you presented without tampering. This is the strength of blogging. Keep sharing your experience of course without hurting anyone. It’s a learning experience believe me, every time I visit here. That apart, What are you making right now?
