Aar Par onwards Johnny Walker and Abrar Alvi became essential parts of the films of Guru Dutt.

Abrar Alvi , like a true wordsmith provided the solid ground to the dreamy visions of Guru Dutt and their complementary combination created a wonderful cinematic world through the films Aar Paar, Mr and Mrs 55, Pyaasa, Kaagaz Ke Phool, Chaudvin ka Chand and Sahib Bibi aur Ghulam.
He directed SBG while few of the songs were directed by Guru Dutt himself.

Abrar Alvi was the last person who sat and talked with Guru Dutt few hours before he died.

Alvi Saab died yesterday.

May his soul rest in peace!

May his soul rest in peace. Fortunately I read his book on legend Guru dutt just last month and came to know abt Guru dutt frm his eyes. I can say that he was undoubtedly man behind some great films made by Guru dutt as friend , counselor and creative advisor.

I think rite now he and Guru dutt must be discussing their films somewhere in jannat. :-)

Though i have seen only one film (Pyaasa) by Guru Dutt-Abrar Alvi, that one experience was enriching enough to understand the artistry and craftsmanship of both the legends.

    My condolences to his family.

It’s sad that the man died before I could even ask him whether Pyaasa dealt with existentialism or not (with reference to an old comment on PFC  ).
