The movie title is picked up from an old Amitabh-Shashi
starrer called ‘Suhaag’ which had the song ‘Teri Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’,
so this is the second movie-title picked from a Shashi Kapoor movie;
earlier one being DDLJ. Anyways, that’s not what the post is about.

Previously, it was suspected that the movie is on the lines of My Fair
Lady. But neither the promo nor the dual role of SRK suggests that.
Moreover, the plot of a rustic village girl being transitioned into a
hi-fi society girl and/or impersonating has been done to death in
movies like Raja Jani, Khel, MKTA etc

Anyways, I just got this mail that gives out a brief storyline of the
movie. And though I would like to believe that the movie does not have
such a theme, you never know. Adi can do anything. Let me first give a
bird’s eye view of the story.

So, SRK a simpleton is married off to a much younger woman. He has a
small time job and lives an ordinary life, but his nubile wife wants
some action in her life, some enthusiasm and a break from this normal
routine. Here in comes the dance portion. There is a dance contest
titled ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ being aired [Nach Baliye types] and his
wife wants to take part in it. SRK overhears this small
aspiration/wish of hers and realises that he has kind of tied down her
life and feels he should try and fulfil her wishes. Yeah, enter SRK
genX with hairs all gelled and tight t-shirt. How he enters the scene
and the contest with her is to be watched out. He pairs-up with her
and probably goes on to win the contest. Even if they don’t win the
contest, he definitely wins her over in the last reel of the movie
when she realises that he is her good-old-hubby.

This premise sounds pretty good and we can fairly fit in Shaimak
Davar’s association, dance theme, SRK dual role and of course Big B’s
guest appearance as one of the judges. But if we can recall, this
theme was a side-track in the movie ‘Aaja Nachle’, where Vinay Pathak
redeems himself through the theatre/dance sequence and his wife finds
new respect and love for him.

Anyways, I just hope there is more to the movie than this. But having
seen Adi’s movies, all of which have wafer thin plots, this is quite
possible. The screenplay has to be strong to pull of such a lame theme
and the dialogues have to be crisp.

Lets wait and watch, just a month to go before this year-end release.
Keeping my fingers crossed that Adi has made a good ‘Jodi’

yaar, i am quite confident ki aisa hi koi andu pandu script hoga. The trailer has a scene where he is putting a teeka and she puts colour on his face. i guess the story is that SRK knows this girl from his neighbourhood or that he goes to a marriage and ends up marrying her because the original dulha walks away. Or she runs away from home during her shaadi and he hides her. He then brings her to his home, where he stays alone. He makes an effort to be nice to her and she gently reciprocates. Slowly they fall in love. then someone passes a snide remark and he takes it upon himself to become a cool dude.
Whatever be the story, i have a feeling ki isme amitabh bachchan will make a special appearance.
Chandni chowk to china will kick its ass.

just got my hands on the sound track.. and here is my verdict… DISSAPPOINTING… I mean really.. they havent learnt anything..

track one.. haule haule.. is monotone and monologue.. sukhvinder should bring his old variation he sounds same in all the songs he sings these days.. daler mehndi would have done better job..

track two.. tujh mein rab dikhta hai.. typical yashraj number.. .will be forgotten as soon as movie will disappear from theater

track three: dance pe chance.. really where was the need to revive flop track of tashan.. dil dance mare..

track four : phir milenge chalet chalte is funny medley of old song and has serious hangover of Om shanti om.. .o boy.. gimme break…

track five : female version of tujh mein rab dikhta hai.. nothing better here..

track six : remix version of dance pe chance.. phewww…

seriously… just listen to Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye… and have fun..

Whatever I had seen of movie on youtube, to be honest the movie looks a refreshing change for the usual YRF capers, though frankly they have gone overboard for the simpleton look of SRK, I mean it kind of looks forced, the whole spectacles and moustache look screams to be noticed. Look! Look! he is middle class, he is simple, they could have done that without going over the top, had they restrained themselves a bit. I haven’t really listened to all songs, but I’ve heard Haule Haule, and Sukhvinder has nailed that song, he has beautifully sung it, the lyrics are a bit too simple in my honest opinion(for the particular song!), so I’m really looking forward to this movie, but if this is the plot of the movie as given in this post, then I guess I should be miles away from the theatre hall. For me, the premise is not at all interesting, though it is grossly unfair to judge a movie barely by reading its plot synopsis, because all said and done, it is the execution that matters at the end of the day. Although, this plot synopsis dampens my spirit a wee bit, am still looking forward to this movie. Atleast for Adi’s sake, if not for anyone else.

its not just the moochh, whenever he has tried a change of image, the movie has not done well. sample this:
    paheli – cultural flop
    swades – rural flop
    asoka – collosal flop
    1 2 ka 4 – judicial flop
har dil jo pyar karega – mental flop [though in guest app]
    josh – jovial flop
    hey ram – hisotrical flop
    and many more.
probably the junta wants to see him only as raj/rahul. or maybe he is comfy doing only raj/rahul. whenever he attempts anything out of his comfy zone, he screws it up big time. will post an article on this soon :)

However incase, if overtime adi Chopras film’s continue to not do well then at some point he may change his strategy….that does not seem likely. In a way Yashraj films are the equivalent of hollywood summer blockbusters and the money spent on those films is never intended to transform cinema, so relax and enjoy or stay away…

I totally agree with whatever crazyrals has said. I am so glad to find somebody thinking like me. In fact, many PFC members seem to be thinking that way.

Not only ‘Chak de’ but everything that Shahurukh has done in past few years is unbearably overhyped. Within past one week I have read at least 6-7 full page interviews of him full of ‘gyaan’that nobody cares for. They have tried to clear him of controversies and portray him as a great person and a thinker which he actually isn’t.

Sample this. Interviewer in DNA writes, Shahrukh turned down a request from another journalist for an interview at 9.00 p.m. because that’s the time when he puts his children to sleep. Such a loving, caring family man!!!! Give me a break. A star can ask the scribe to interview him at any time of his choice. These days interviews are done on e-mail also. But then Shahrukh is so great na!!! He flew down to be with his wife when she was down with food poisoning. (Mid Day or Mirror)How cute!!

Point being, be prepared for a great amount of such bullshit in the form of interviews, features, trivia etc till RBDJ is released and duely declared hit right after the first show.

Thereafter, there will be reports convincing us that it’s a big hit and everybody has liked it. Enjoy!

Really I was trying my very best not to voice my opinion on this article and the comments I have read so far but it is near impossible to read such bias and dislike.
You should re-name your forum – Let’s bash YRF. It would be a more appropriate name!
Come on – why such vitriol? Perhaps you should analyse and write detailed comments on films like Golmaal and it’s Return. Singh is Kinng, EMI and countless others. To those who are championing CCTC, I ask why? Will it be along the lines of SIK or SEI and therefore another cinematic perfection. Will it be another awe inspiring film by Akshay Kumar? Really I am most dissappointed by the contibutors on this forum.
If I may say so, the films you lot like are not THAT path-breaking or brilliant. They just cater (sometimes) for the slightly better educated and thinking Asian audience but still far removed from “Good Cinema”.
You lot are not purveyors of “good cinema” but a discontented and frustrated bunch of journalists and maybe directors who have not hit it big even though you claim to know what is good for”us the audience”. Luckily for us what you lot think does not effect the outcome of films in India.
I was compelled to write in as the mean spirit of this board is stifling. You should wait to see a film before you shred it to bits! But of course that is a foregone conclusion since your motto is to hate “all things YRF”.

Comment No. 49 – GAJNI IS FLOP .. BUT RAB NE..!! IS JST GOING TO BE A BLOCKBUSTER,

If the aforementioned comments are not immature, then what else is?

And by the way, this comment of mine doesn’t contain any ‘intelligent sounding words’. But, you might be perturbed by ‘aforementioned’. Wait. I’ll ease your pain.

Aforementioned – The one or ones mentioned previously; Previously mentioned.

I think Aamir is given a benefit of doubt of being an intelligent actor more than any one else.

Yes, at times this looks like one step away from being Rediff but some how sanity always prevails.

    @54 Tanul,
I think perturbed was more intelligent than aforementioned :-)

    @Lily
I am a fan of SRK but never ever I compare his or any one else’s movies with others. Apples and oranges waali baat hain na.

  54. Come dec 12th-RNBDJ will out & come dec 25th-Ghajini will be out.As a true bollywood lover I am eagerly expecting these 2 releases & hope that both would do well.

Atleast that would bring some cheer to a lot of people in the trade and ensure a good closure for 2008!!!

You like him or hate him, but you cannot just ignore SRK, thats one fact nobody can deny. His movies have never been path breaking or very intellectual and he never claims them to be one. He knows how well to package and market a movie, he knows how to bring in the majority of people to movie halls, he for one reads the pulse of audience really well in most of the cases. His stupendous success at the BO proves that. so just lets hope RNBJ hits the right chord and turns out to be a big block buster.
