Age, years, timespan

I wonder if it is that difficult to put some thought on the way that the characters will age when you show a timespan in a film. In Hum, it is referred again and again that “fifteen years have passed” and then you show that in those fifteen years,a toddler has become as old as Rajnikanth and not only that, he is now married and has a 8-9 year old daughter.

I remember seeing “Hum tere aashiq hain” recently on television, where Om Shiv Puri goes to jail leaving two new-born babies behind. How many years he spent there is not mentioned but when he comes out, one of the babies has become a surgeon (played by Jeetendra) who is supposed to have passed his FRCS while the other baby is a sweet-sixteen Hema Malini.

In Aandhi, Sanjeev Kumar and Suchitra Sen age like twenty years in a span of just nine years (Nau baras lambi thi na!)

In Hamara Khaandaan, two babies born on the same day grow up to become Rishi Kapoor (who returns from phoren after doing higher studies) and Farah (who is still in college).

I am not going to count other films where time passed has nothing to do with the ageing of the characters. What I wonder is that why is it so difficult to count the number of years passed? Just add those number of years to the character’s age. Or do they think – who cares! Audience ye sab nahi sochne wali! (Audience is not going to notice this)

lol, they don’t do that – Bees Saal Ka Baad (after 20 years) – thing anymore. Why was it always 20 years?

majority of films used to start with a cop’s family getting separated by, ahem, Goondas, and then, ma goes one way, pa dies and siblings gets lost.

In our country, actors are like gods. Films are like religion.
Our gods like gods of religion, never age, they just change form

Ya ur right..one of the best example can be the film ‘Karan Arjun’.. where Rakhi never looked more than in her mid 40’s where she was suppose to be abovee 60 years atleast…Amprish Puri never aged in 20 years..and had the same pysique and strenght to fight with our heroes, who never looked 20 years old in either in janam or in punarjanam!!Chamatkari baba Rakesh ki jai ho..
