Agneepath Remake

… it’s all over the news. And a bit surprised that Hritik Roshan may play Vijay Dinanath Chauhan… wouldn’t he be a bit soft for this gruesome role? Perhaps. Being produced by Karan Johar (his father, the late Yash Johar had produced the original), if not Hritik who would be the best choice for the role?

Please don’t touch Agneepath.
It’s a Mukul Anand classic.. Let him rest in peace.. Please..!!
With Karan Johar at the helm, I would be surprised if the film did not become lot ’softer’.. ;)
How we miss Mukul Anand!
I may be way wrong, but as I imagine a few scenes (the four gangsters shooting VDC, the mad running of VDC in Dharavi to save his sister, the climax)… I think Irrfan would have a real go at this role. But you never know about Hritik, he has the ability to surprise one when least expected.
i wouldn’t like to see this movie being remade. its a masterpiece which should not be tampered with. rgv has already burnt his fingers with ’sholay’, so plz advise these guys to leave ‘agneepath’ untouched.
but if it has to be done then i think abhishek bachchan would be great. he has the right amount of intensity and ruggedness which was brought out so well in ‘yuva’. he emotes a lot with his eyes and facial expressions, just as bigB
. smallB should be in it, IMO
@3. AM bought a glamour, sexiness and star power to VDC. Irfan is miles behind in these respects.
IMHO Agneepath should not be touched again. If it has to be it should be Abhishek.
Sholay was never tarnished just because an RGV ka aag was made. Let them remake it, we might be able to see a new outlook of the same story.
I think Don never tarnished Don’s image, so I guess its alright.
Just hope they dont waste all the money like rgv did.
Any guesses who will be playing mithun da’s role.
Manoj Bajpai or Sanjay Dutt for Mithun da’s role.
Not just AB but Mukul Anand and Mithun daa too will be hard to replace.
A better option would be to re-release it. At least people like me, who missed out on watching Bachchan classics on big screen, will lap it up
@ Vineet-
If Hrithik gets to do VDC, then it can’t be Manoj Bajpai or Sanjay Dutt in Mithun Da’s role, unless they alter the script a bit.
Frankly even I’m not too amused to hear this news.Such movies are hard to replicate. But yes I’d rather go for Abhishek over Hrithik for VDC.
THere is no way, SRK would lose any chance of imitating something that Amitabh Bachchan did. From ICICI advt to KBC to DON, he just doesnt lose any chance to be “Seen” as THE superstar.
And Karan Johar is a “Very good friend”. Doubt SRK would “allow” Karan to cast anyone other than himself as VDC. Hehehe will reprise his Josh role I guess.
If anything, Ram Gopal Varma is the best choice as director to remake Agneepath and Abhishek Bachchan is the only one who can do justice as VDC
I dont consider Agneepath as a classic. It was just another commercial for which AB should have never got Rajat Kamal. So I really dont care if it is remade or not.
AB’s body lingo in Agreepath reminds me of Al Pacino in Scar Face.
Abhisek would fit well, but no one can replace Mithunda and Danny. Don’t tell me KJo is directing this remake ?
Barbara Mori should play Mithunda’s character. That way when she does the “Lungi uthati, tumko disco dikhati”, nobody would mind!
Will this movie be called Kyonki Agnee Bhi Kabhi Path Thi? Or Kuch Agnee Path Hai? Or Kabhi Agnee, Kabhi Path??
..
Anyway a remake of a remake, whats up Bollywood, so short of ideas, that its turned to remaking older movies.
@vinay: if rgv remakes ‘agneepath’ then be sure that bigB will play ‘kancha cheena’
The original itself did not work for me. Both Amitabh and Mithun were over the top. Mithun did not even look or sound like a Tamil guy. Whoever acts in this, I’ll give it a skip.
Agneepath was a commercial movie and I am sure if Mukul Anand was alive today we might be treating him just as we are treating a Subhash Ghai. There was a time in the 80s and 90s when his movies pulled in the crowds. Honestly I dont think his movies would have worked in today’s time. His films include Hum, Trimurti, Mahasangram, Sultanat, Khuda Gawah. I dont mean to say that I did not enjoy some of these. As a child I was enthralled whenever AB used to come on to the screen in Agneepath, KG or Hum. He really used to live upto the expectation of people to see AB in a larger than life role.
I have said all this bcos we always tend to become too emotional and touchy whenever a remake is planned. We take the source film to great heights and look at the new product with disdain. It happened with Don too. Overnight the old Don become a great classic. Pages were being written about how the director Chandra Barot was a legend. I am not saying that the new Don was the best Farhan could have offered. But it had to change with time so it was unfair to compare each and every frame and whine about it. Even the performances, I am sure if someone does a copy paste performance of AB from one of his old movies we will start laughing. Agneepath cannot be made the same way during this age and time. Things will have to get more sophisticated – use of mobiles, use of more slick weapons, well dressed dons and henchmen. The main source of evil cannot be drugs or alcohol. It has to be a bigger issue. So all I want to do is wait and watch how it turns out to and not have a preset mind.
Although i love Mukul Anand’s movies, but i somehow never liked “Agneepath”, however hard i tried. Watched it many times, but somehow……..
I dont like remakes(there’s plenty of subjects/genre still unexplored).
Trivia….
If you havent noticed as of now Watch Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham(yaaaaaaa i know), and count the Khushi and Gham scenes(its amazing it alternates all throught out the movie, emotional thrills every 5 minutes or so).
Looks like it’s going to be just a repeat of what Farhan did with Don, guised as a remake of Agneepath. Farhan’s Don was glossy, fresh and enjoyable, but if KJ goes ahead with this me-too act, it will only dilute the novelty value of both remakes.
Let it remain untouched please!!!!
And if he’s decided to do a harakiri then get ready to see heroines’ roles stretched, more chiffons, glycerin for whosoever plays Rohini’s part, and last but not the least, it would be a gangsta movie set up in New York.
Diff people diff views. Many want remakes, many dont. The point is, if someone decided to make it they will make it. If sholay can be fucked up then what else can not be?
I agree with Ravi@19 that remakes should look new, but they should not look out of context and un-real.
Also, I have 1 question in my mind ( 1 mind 1 question policy). Why dont someone try remaking flops? Remaking hit has an inherent disadvantage of being compared with original and fall short. Second problem is, oldness of story and being a hit, has been watched by most of us. e.g. Remaking Raakh (Amir Khan) rather than re-releasing it. or 8*10 tasveer or any other movie which has interesting concept but screwed up product. May be ‘No Smoking’ too.
Many people underestimate KJ. I personally dont like his movies and havent watched KANK for that reason only.
But one thing for sure, that guy has good sense of what sells in market. So if he takes a pot at Agnipath, may be people like us wont like it, but he will make it saleable.
This news is in the WTF category .. An Agneepath without Bacchan ?? .. fucking unimaginable !
Its very hard to re create the larger than films that Mukul Anand made specially Hum,Agneepath and Khuda Gawah. All these roles were tailor made for Mr.Bachchan and the way he performed, its very difficult to surpass that.Having said that,Karan Johar is someone who knows what he is doing. It would be interesting to see who directs the movie….surely not Mr.Johar!!
Hrithik roshan cant act…HE is just a pretty boy….VDC can only be remade with amitabh’s son abhishek.
Exactly..Diff people diff views…also Diff time diff look…
Personally I dont think there is a star today who can take on this role. Abhishek can do this but does not have across the board appeal and popularity to make this a larger than life experience. And the one person who could have done this is already being criticised by all for no reasons. I sincerely believe SRK could have given the character the over the top, larger than life persona, we had seen shades of it in Ram Jaane, Anjaam. Unapologetic characters who think only about what is happening to them. But if you are not looking for a big star it is Kay Kay who best fits the role.
No one can match AB’s role in AgniPath, even though one can find many similarities of Al Pacino from the movie Scarface.
Personally I would love to see the interpretation of Karan Johar on AgniPath, as this would be the make or break movie in terms of his hype created mastery over the medium. As Karan has always made movies to his comfort level.
For the role of VDC, I would love to see a newbie on the block i.e. Abhimanyu Singh who played Rhansa in Gulaal. Even Akshay Kumar will do, as the time has come for Akshay to reinvent himself by doing different roles.

O boy. Is Hritik reading this and the comments section?
VDC can only be played by Amitji.
