Aladin: A wish came true!

Love is in the air...
[Disclaimer: A personal kinda filmi & slightly longer post]
Just back from Vada-pao-dabeli-rashtra, happy as if I found my Genie, sleep-deprived yet dreamy-eyed, lethargic yet waiting to conquer new horizons & blah blah blah. Well, things are going great & the stage is set. For me to enter films? For me to quit advertising? For me to get rid of my cubicle? For me to say good bye to obituary ads for good? For me to say ‘HI’ to Hindi cinema? For me to fall in love?
Dear friend, actually it is all the above & none of the above.
Confused? Yeah, me too. Welcome to the Club. Make yourself comfortable. Leave the shoes out (We are in La La Land, let’s keep it clean, I say!). It’s like a cho chweet dream sequence and it is a zone I had been to, long long back… when I didn’t have to worry about laundry ka bill, dukhi dil and all that jazz. Life was laddoo. Go to work, love thy colleage, hence love thy work, earn good, spend well (ok fine) & generally have a fantastic time.
It’s a sense of deja-vu and all it took one song to complete the picture. Me smiling goofily, tapping away on the keyboard, headphone on & the song playing. That ‘one song’ you hear once in a while that pretty well sums up your state of mind. Now that song may not give a comlpex to ‘Beethoven’, but in its own simple way, it elevates you. From the drudgeries of everyday living right into a time & space that is straight out of mushy comic books.
So this is about a song I first saw & then heard from the much awaited film – Aladin. Thanks to bollywoodhungama that I got to hear it & thanks to some expert-techie @ Eros, I didn’t get to download it. Okay, so before the ‘pirate-police-brigade’ pounces on me, lemme go on to what made me write. Have been off radar for a while now & apologies to the 4 avid readers of my blog (that is excluding my colleagues & dear friends, including which the count goes to 9).
OK, so the song is – Baby / May be you are the one…
There is some karmic connection I share with Vishal & Shekhar, how much ever they may deny (lets blame the papparazzi for that). One of their earliest outings (Jhankaar Beats) & the latest one to hit the charts and all those in between, had atleast one track that defined my state of my mind. And so wonderfully, as if I had paid them to do so.. write… compose… the works. The rest of the songs belong to the movie, but there is that atleast one song that belongs to me. JUST ME. Album after album… consistently.
Recently, Amanda Sodhi, a PFC Author, had written a wonderful piece (a detailed music review) about ‘Kailasa – Chaandan Mein’ but I remember that album had one song “Bheeg Gaya Mera Mann” which was potent enough to make me write a post all by itself. Not denying that the other songs were any less, but it was that one song that captures the moment, the space that you are in. I didn’t write a post then, but this time around, its just between the song, the keyboard & the mindspace that I am in. (Magik bekasoor hai)
The song has been written by Vishal & sang by both Vishal & Shekhar. Very simply written. No guzaarish, farmaaish and the ‘hatke’ likes. Very today, very romantic and very well orchestrated & sung by the duo. And that it has been filmed equally well helped create an impression in my ‘filmi-kaliyon-se-bhari-khopdi-ki-jhopdi’. If not for the oh-so-angelic-oh-so-divine-touch-me-and-i-will-get-dirty’ type heroine, I just might have changed the channel… but anyways…
Khule khule teri aankhon mein hain mere armaan saare,
Khile khile aise hain ki pheeke pheeke hai sab nazaare…
Hai naya ye jahaan… ke hua na yahaan…
itna kabhi bhi na kisi ko kisi se hai pyaar…
I dunno how, but that was exactly how I felt, sitting with a friend, on a ‘hot-n-humid-but-i-didn’t-care kinda’ B E A U Tiful Saturday. I know she will smile sweetly, if she happens to read this & that would be more than enough to make my day. Well, I am getting off track & before any more harakiri, back to the post ;)
So that is it – CONFUSION. That’s my dominant state of mind, right now. Baby or may be? Settle or unsettle? 9-6 or 24X7? Love or fondness? Films or advertising? Obituaries or continuity sheets? Dil shape ka balloon or khoon bhara khat? Affair or just friends? So I dedicate this song to all of us filmi keedas, hoping I find my answers & hoping Sujoy Ghosh’s Aladin finds the audience that it was made for. Do share your thoughts & best wishes here… viva PFC!

Ashu Bhai MAPRM wale
it was the day for regaling your stories bro.. which are i felt on an after-thought, even beyond a mere 70mm. viva passion…. for love or cinema….
love ka bukhaar chadh gaya lagta hai…..
abhi sabhi fundoo lagega….
baad me na pooch kaisa aalam rahega…
badi bevakoofiyaan karaat hai ye dil..
admi ko ekdum badar banaata hai ye dil..
umr ka takaaza hai..kuch harmones ka kamaal hai
sapne sakaar karne ke liye kya nahi karwaata ye dil
mujhe bhi apni jawaani yaad aa gayi :-)
waah waah mashallah d&dji… mzaaa aa gaya… thanks for the much needed reality check. my day is made! thanks for dropping by…
Hey dude…so finally sabke saamne pyaar ka izhaar kar hi diya. Hope now there will be no more “we are just friends” dialogue from you. Hope you get a genie who fulfills your wish – she become a eternal part of your life…2nd and 3rd wish can be ur filmi career and fame not in a particular order (fisrt being the first).
Anyways…loved the post. Both are heartfelt – the song as well as the post (read your feelings for the sweetheart).
BTW about the song, i read in a news paper that Vishal was not willing to give his voice to the song….and sujoy had to literally fight, abuse and push Vishal to sing ‘You May Be”.
Read the story @
