All the King’s men and the awards….
King Khan loves awards. And yes, Shahrukh never shies away from admitting it. There is also the legendary story of his that he keeps on narrating everywhere on how during his first filmfare awards he had come prepared to give money to the organisers. Somebody had told him that to win a filmfare award he has to pay the organisers backstage. And so, he was ready with a pocketfull.
Thereafter, he just kept on winning. Some expected ones, few unexpected ones but now a days the norm is to expect the unexpected award for KING KHAN. Ofcourse, simply to keep the King happy, I guess. GIFA this year awarded Shahrukh for something called “most searced actor on the net “. I could not control myself. Wasnt aware of this category ever.
Filmfare also have been doing something similar almost every year. The unexpected awards. When the organisers figure out that they cant give Shahrukh any award in any category they just do one simple thing. Make a new category. So, the “Biggest brand of bollywood” and the “Most powerful bollywood personality” and many other rubbish categories are made every year.
And its the same with every other IIFA,GIFA,Cineblitz,Stardust,Zee Cine and God knows how many more. I just wonder. Why ? Doesn’t Shahrukh knows this also ? Of course, he knows and everytime he gets one of this consolation prizes he jokes sarcastically on stage. But no one is bothered and nobody is embarassed. Its just good show, big money and great business proposal to get Shahrukh on stage.
Because everyone wants a bit of the King. Some for cover stories, some for co-branding, some for thier films, some to get him do chaiyaan chiyaan at their functions. So, why should we aspire for free and fair awards ? When industry’s one of the biggest actors knows it and still enjoys it, can anything change. I just wish that “somebody” shouldn’t have told the Prince that to become KING he has to pay backstage.

- Award for most searched actor? I better send my Hugo Boss for dry cleaning… I could be next… what the hell? What next? Most shagged on this year award goes to… the moment I heard that “Upen Patel” was given the award for best debutant… I knew… Armageddon had finally arrived in Bollywood Awards held by more people than there are in Bollywood itself.
When a film like “Fight Club” wins an award (mind you, not the Fincher one! Yes, this year even witnessed a Hindi film with that title!), you know something is grossly wrong. For those unaware, it won the award for Best Debutante Director – should have been titled Worst Debutante Plagiarist. Gone are those golden days when the Filmfare awards genuinely recognized quality. In fact, all the awards globally have been infected with PR needs, the Oscars equally guilty. For decades, our own National Awards were considered to be a kind of saving grace, support structure even. But even those are won these days by Saif ali Khan for his primate imitations in Hum Tum. Sadiyon paar karke bandar bana insaan…afsos ki insaan ko bandar ban ne ki kaafi jaldi hai.

And the director of the film Vikram Chopra gave a looooooong oscar speech also, after taking the award and everyone was wondering who the hell is he ??? Some people really have some guts…copy a movie,make a bad copy, accept the award and deliver a long speech too !!!!
Everyone wants to be up on that stage with a trophy in their hand. For these people, the ends justify the means. Just goes to highlight the GIFA organizers’ pea-sized brains. All they could find for best debutante director was Vikram Chopra??? They may actually want to start watching the fucking movies that release during the year.
Jaan-E-Man wasnt a great movie, but I would say Shirish Kunder made one heck of a directorial debut. Clearly they didn’t watch “Being Cyrus”. I didn’t particularly like the film but it was original. Homi Adajania is Kubrick compared to Vicky Chopra. Shivam Nair for Ahista Ahista would have been a better choice than this copycat. Clearly they never saw Pyar Ke Side Effects directed by Saket Chaudhry, or for that matter, the absolutely wonderful “Khosla Ka Ghosla” by Dibakar Banerjee. Oh well, now what more can I say? As Kurosawa wrote in ‘Ran’, “In a mad world, only the mad are sane.”

I read somewhere or I think someone on PFC mentioned that there is an official award ceremony for crap movies/crap acting in Hollywood. And recently Halle Berry won that award and she gracefully accepted that…. something like that. i can’t remember name of the award ceremony
i think, we should have that in India.

@HG you are right.Holyywood has an award ceromony was the worst movies of the year, worst actor, etc..and these awards are called ” OSCARS” =))=)).
On a serious note, yes even i heard about it not quite sure…but rememebr…Showgirls had a cleansweep one year..lol!!!

Why target only Filmfare ? All the awards are shitty. So,lets name it without paying too much attention to film”fare”. Also, lets give one award for something good…have always felt instead of actors/acctresses/supporting actors/actresses/villains n vamps…we shld have one actor or entertainer award…like where wud u place anupam kher/boman irani for khosla ka ghosla…they were so good n so natural and there are many like them but m damn sure they will not get any awards.

Crap awards’d be a good thing…only downside being, most of the bad movies I avoid nowadays (I mean, who in their right mind would watch Fight Club!), so it be a touch act. One thing I’m sure of – diabetic movie of the year’s Vivaah for sure…after all those ‘ji’s and ‘pranam’s I felk like I was in a time-warped serial or something!
