Amitabh Bachchan : The President of India!!

Does Amitabh’s political association, affect his image in the hearts of his fans? As a film star,he has been getting tremendous love and support of people belonging to all age groups. But recently his image has been affecting and people have started speaking against him and sometimes they treat him with no or less respect. It was not there in the past. Is it due to his political association with Samajwadi party or his association with his political friend -Amar Singh?

Amitabh Bachchan : then and now !

Amitabh Bachchan had defeated the political heavy weight leader Late Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna from Allahabad constituency in 1985 and this defeat ultimately started the ending of political career of Bahuguna ji. During Bofors scandal, opposition parties had tried to seige the political fate of, then PM Late Rajiv Gandhi and Amitabh Bachchan, and Amitabh had resigned from parliament and he had returned to the films completely. He had said that Politics was not his field and it was a mistake that he had entered in to the politics.

He gathered this understanding from his life and once he told that a non-political reason also catalyzed his decision to quit the politics. As MP of Congress party, he was visiting Asaam and there, one person came to him and said that Amitabh has brought him in a great trouble. Person was perhaps supporter of Asam Gana Parishad. Person said that he always loved Amitabh and even adored him as his cine idol. But now Amitabh is associated with an opposite political party and he has to fight with political image of Amitabh. There is a great conflict inside him and he is spilt into two persons. One part of him loves Amitabh and is a big fan of the film star Amitabh and second part is an opponent of Political leader Amitabh. He asked Amitabh, what he should do to solve this inner battle?.
Amitabh said,” This man’s sayings touched m'© deeply and helped me to take the decision to quit the politics. I am an artist and my passion and work is to perform in the films and that is the real Amitabh and all else is false, an imposed one”.
In later years also he always maintained that he would not join politics again.

Amitabh is the only film star in Hindi cinema, whose accident and later poor health conditions affected almost whole of the nation. People loved him as their favourite film star and for years no film star could match his popularity. Amitabh was seen as family friend of Nehru Gandhi family but that did not affect his popularity among masses and people voting for other political parties also liked him. Years he remained as most popular person of India among Indians. He had joined the politics after the assassination of Mrs Indira Gandhi and had won Lok Sabha election with a fair margin, which was a clear proof of his popularity. Later, he left politics, Rajiv Gandhi was killed and Amitabh too took 4-5 years sabbatical from the films. He tried to bring corporate culture in film making also through his ABCL but it brought him financial troubles and his decision to organise Miss World in India brought him under heavy financial lossses and later he spent years in paying that debt back.

Till Priyanka Gandhi’s wedding he was always seen standing with the Nehru Gandhi family but like a true filmi story, something happened and later Bachchan family was seen going away from Nehru Gandhi family. Amar Singh and Samajwadi Party, replaced Gandhi family and congress respectively. Perhaps it was due to continuous efforts of Samajwadi Party. Its chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, as CM of UP, went to Bombay at Amitabh’s home to present Late Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan, the Yash Bharati award. Its said that Amar Singh helped Amitabh in re-establishing ABCL again. Soon it was trio of AAA, Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Ambani and Amar Singh, which was seen in newspaper, most of the time, going on a religious journey. In congress, Amitabh was never asked to take part in any kind of political canvassing before he actually joined the politics. But his association with S.P, brought him many controversies. He was alleged to promote SP’s political missions under the disguise of blood donation camps etc. He was made member of atleast two committees, related to industrial benefits of UP and Cinema council. Amitabh’s almost every film was given tax benefits in UP.

Sonia Gandhi never said any word in media or in public about the status of relationships between Gandhi family and Bachchan family. Very first time, Amitabh Bachchan accepted in one of his interview, perhaps with Veer Sanghvi or Karan Thapar, that there were distances between two families, because, he said,” they live there in Delhi and we live here in Mumbai”. Later in another interview he said,” They are raja (king), I am just a rank (pauper), and doors were closed to me, its up to the king to open the doors”.
It was NDA’s regime in the centre and political future of Sonia Gandhi and congress party under her presidentship, was not seen with hopeful eyes. SP was very strong in UP. Whole of the computer owning crowd of the nation was dying to make Atal Bihari Vajpai as the biggest leader of independent India and Lata Mangeshkar had sung his poems, and had said in emotional manner that she treats Atal ji as her father. She even searched a reverssible resembling manner between their names and said that her name falls in opposite order of name of Atal ji. [ L.A.T.A A.T.A.L ].

Amitabh offered to provide his voice to poems of Atal Ji and he did give his voice to the Samvedna album, where poems were sung by Jagjit Singh.

Yash Chopra directed a video film based on the poems written by Atal ji. Shahrukh acted in that video.

But future is always hidden behind the dark curtains of time. Hardly anyone knew in India, (except those who searched change in the centre and desired for this change and strong believers of Sonia Gandhi and congress party, but they too did not hope to see congress back in to the power, such was the hype of India Shining) that Sonia Gandhi and her congress would bring a change in the political scenario of India. Sonia Gandhi appointed Dr ManMohan Singh as PM candidate and sought support from other allies, which she ultimately got.

Amitabh Bachchan never addressed a political meeting, but Jaya Bachchan did this to seek support for Samajwadi Party’s candidates and she spoke bitterly against Gandhi family in some remote areas near Bareilly in UP. Little she knew at that time that media would give this much coverage to her sayings. Soon a controversy was created. She had alleged Gandhi family that they did not help them when Bachchan family was passing through a bad phase and left them in troubles. And it was treacherous according to her. She praised that people like Amar Singh and Mulayam Singh Yadav were the reliable people, to whom you could trust.
Media smelt the matter and it was a wonderful opportunity for them, so journalists got success in provoking Rahul Gandhi and he commented back that whole country knows who left whom and Gandhi family was not to betray anyone. This is they, who had left us, for whom, we all know it.

A grand opportunity for media, matter was further fuelled by Amar Singh’s interim bytes. Amitabh Bachchan, from Banaras, stopped this feud and said,” Our association with Nehru Gandhi family is coming from the time of my father, Pt Nehru and Indira ji. It was established when neither Sonia nor Jaya were part of the families. If Jaya has said what is reported in newspapers then she did wrong”.

Media tried to take bytes from Abhishek Bachchan also but he wisely said,” its for elders of the family to say on such matters”.

After that episode none of the Gandhi family is seen saying anything on the matter though?Amar Singh and Mulayam Singh Yadav, belong to different political party so its nothing unusual for them to attack Sonia Gandhi. But their association with Amitabh Bachchan, brings an interesting twist in this otherwise political fight. If its related to Amitabh’s tax problem, Amar Singh connects it with the cause that because Sonia Gandhi is against Amitabh that’s why Income tax department is troubling Amitabh. Jaya Bachchan’s RS membership was cancelled after a congress leader had complained that she held the office of profit in UP. Though later she was re-nominated by SP and she got elected again. Anil Ambani too resigned in that matter and since then he has not shown any sign to join politics again.

Given any chance and Amar Singh and Samajwadi party is seen creating a scene that there is a personal enmity between Sonia Gandhi and Bachchan family and that’s why Bachchan family often faces the problems. LK Advani too never left any chance to lure Amitabh and often praised him and his popularity. But fact remains that he, Atal Ji and Mulayam Singh too, actually none of them, left any chance in attacking Bachchan family during Bofors days. When Amitabh can forget what these people did with him in those bad days then would he ever get chance to do same with Gandhi family also? When Amitabh was associated with Gandhi family then he had an intact reputation though he could not get any solid help while his corporate venture was facing difficulties. Now he is associated with SP, though he gets solid and open political backing from Amar Singh and Samajwadi party, but his reputation is not without stigma anymore. It cant be possible that he does not understand the statements given by Amar Singh and his eyes cant see that none of the statement ever can help in restoring good ties with Gandhi family. Latest rumour is, Samajwadi party is planning to raise Amitabh’s name as candidate for the post of next President of India. Mulayam Singh Yadav was the first who had proposed the name of current president Dr Kalam. Amitabh?s name is a big political trick and several parties, which see danger in Sonia and congress becoming more strong, can join hands to defeat Sonia Gandhi in this game. Coming future will reveal the hidden things. But the question, which that Assamese had asked from Amitabh, will remain in existence. Its very interesting to watch Amitabh’s life profile.

Amitabh’s life is full of twists and it will be interesting to see the future. Inspite of too much media interaction with him, there is no clear picture about his present life. Media reports that he and his brother Ajitabh Bachchan have developed problems between them. Amitabh never issues any statements on such things but later he is found to praise his niece. This is also true that these days his brother is never seen in any of the family affairs as he used to be seen few years ago. It was just a rumour about Abhishek and Aishwarya few months ago and Amitabh too was reported to deny from this relation. But nowAbhishek and Aishwarya are officially engaged. With more association with media, Amitabh’s life has become more confusing for the people. Till 1985 he hardly interacted with the media and yet people adored him a lot but now scene is changing and his political association has also changed his equation with the ordinary people. Samajwadi party is not seen as a party, which considers every section of society and this fact has to affect Amitabh Bachchan the actor also.

India will get many able people who can become president but hindi cinema wont get an actor like Amitabh.
Cinema is the true place for Amitabh and its a scary idea that a political party can manipulate its relations with Amitabh, just to fulfil its political goals. Though chances are bleak that serious parties will support an actor on this post but SP may play this gambling, considering huge popularity of Amitabh but it may create more rift between Bachchan Family and Gandhi family. So if Amitabh does not win, still the purpose to tease Sonia can be fulfilled.

But what about lovers of cine actor Amitabh Bachchan?

At the nucleus, that assamee man , his question and Amitabh’s then reactions are lying and outer shells have many different aspects of his life.
u have to decide your concern and interest.

on serious note, his becoming President may bring far bitterness in politics. Amar Singh cant put a lock on his mouth and first time Indian president will be having an unofficial spokes person. And if Congress remains in power then it will be far big tussle between PM and President than Rajiv Gandhi faced with Gyani Jail Singh.
I truely believe Amitabh wont fall for these political gimmics. He belongs to a highly respected and cultured family and he lives with passion towards cinema.

I want to talk about a very over publicized self-prominent super star of Indian Cinema who proclaims himself to be the star of the millennium. But nobody other than Indians has ever even heard of him. Contrary to the Mithun, Sharukh Khan, and Aamir khan who are well known in the western hemisphere because of their artistic achievement like Mrigaya, Swades, and Lagaan. But Amitabh has not made a single movie, which has ever been recognised as a classic on the international stage unlike Titli, Devdas, and Rande Basanti (both are bafta nominated), and Titli was internationally awarded. But the Indian media insist on portraying him as the face of Bollwyood, which he is not either artistically or commercially.

Artistically Dilip Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Mithun Chakraborty, Ashok Kumar, and Aamir Khan are much better actors than him. Commercially mediocre actor Sharukh Khan is biggest name in India cinema at the moment who can make a hit out of even a third rate televevison programme KBC. So where does Amitabh Bachchan figure in the current stage of Indian cinema? Is a question I would like to ask the critics? The last 10 movies he has made have all been artistically commercially disaster starting from Ajnabee to Nisahbd.

The worst ever performance by an Indian super star in a movie was given by Amitabh as demented delusional man that he has become in real life in the Darna Zaroori Hai which is one of the worst films ever made in the world. Even the third rate porn movies made in India are better than his latest movie Nishabd which is a essensually as soft pornographic self indulgence by a man suffering from delusion of grandeur in his days.

Even Ek Lavya is one of the biggest artistic and commercial disasters ever made.

As far as for his past he made worthwhile cinema in the early 70s with Hrishkesh Mukherji and Prakash Mehra and also Dulal Guha. But all his movies are with Multi-starrers where he is most of the time playing supporting actor like Sholay and Kabhie Kabhie where Dharamendra and Shashi Kapoor have made mince meat of him as did Vinod Khanna in Mukadder ka sikander.

He could not even touch Rajesh Khanna in Anand or Namak Haram, much less Dilip Sab in Shakti where he is totally made to look like and amateur iin front of ths great thespian.

He made his come back after flopping badly in late 80with every bad movies like Ajooba, Mard, toofan, Naasti and Girafter which were total commercial and artistic failure.

His first decent movie was Agneepath with Mithun Chakraborty where Mithun is much better than him, but he had already spread the lie about Chakraborty being a poor man Amitabh to sabotage the great Bengali actor image. This was done by his media buddies because of the power of politics in Bollywood.

Amitabh blessed by having a very prominent family background with political connection with the mighty Gandhi family who helped him first 20 movies badly flopped up to Zanjeer. His father Harivansh Rai Bachchan was Indiras Gandhis closest friend and his casting in Saath Hindustani was done by Ahmed Khawaja Abbas(Shahid kapoor grand father) on a letter of recommendation from Mrs Indira Gandhi. But Mithun Chakraborty has never had that privileged of being touted by political or Bollywood power houses like Yash Raj or Sippys films who were responsible for giving Amitabh his super status.

The recent circumstances and scandal surrounding the Bachchans family including Mr Abhishek Bachchan forced stardom, which is secondary to the media hyped induced by his father and the scandalised behaviour with Mr Amar Singh and the controversial wedding has left half of the India totally antagonised by his unfriendly behaviour. This by itself reflects his shallow personality and character compared to other great Bollwyood legend like Ashok Kumar and Dilip kumar. I would want to draw you attention the fact that role model award given to Mithun Chakraborty in the presence of Amitabh Bachchan sitting on the function totally flabbergasted by the event which showed on the facial expressions of Mr Bachchan and Mrs Rai.

I wonder how Amitabh Bachchan managed to convince the jury to give him best national actor award for Black in preference to Mithun Chakraborty

Amitabh’s hai-hai type acting and Mithun’s amma and lungi-uthati acting together with Rohini Hattangadi’s righteous mother mouthing dinkar type poem (though written by Harivansh Rai Bachchan but I doubt the context in which it is used in the movie and it falls flat for me) is a waterloo.

Romuz: you have very strong personal disliking towards Amitabh Bachchan thats why time and again you have to try to drag him down.
One can say a lot about his present days social status because of his few actions and more because of his few of the friends but to question his acting ability is the injustice and very pathetic attempt and to some extent its inhuman act. In your cynicism you cant deny someone’s talent and if you are doing then its case of pyschological attention. We have discussed before also. Mithun is very very good actor but he is able to bring out this good acting at very few occasions and he has not got consistency like Amitabh Bachchan.
Call it luck or anything else but Amitabh will never be compared with Mithun.
Amitabh Bachchan’s some films may be low graded but even then they will never touch that low standard as Mithun’s films he did in 90s.
Mithun Chakravorty, Dharmendra and Jacky Shrof, these three estbliahshed actors should be punished to bring low standard in hindi films and they were not desperate actors who were doing low standard works becasue they had to survive and they were suffering from economical problems. They prefered to do those pathetic films.
If Dilip Saab was better than Amitabh in Shakti then its a matter of pride for Amitabh, because we have yet to see an actor who acted better than Dilip Saab in any film. Amitabh Bachchan was not blind like you and perhaps you have forgot but he had himself accepted Dilip Saab’s priceless acting in Shakti. Some day I will post that letter which Amitabh Bachchan had written in Times of India to salute Dilip Saab.
Amitabh Bachchan may not be role model anymore but he is an actor of par excellence and its your false notion that people dont know him outside of India. First thing before SRK no Indian super star ever bothered about people outside their country. They were not doing shows outside.
One has a time and its true SRK is known in Europe but it has to do something with his business connections in Europe because some agenccy in Germany has been releasing only his DVDs for last 6-7 years and people watch Indian films through DVDs only and thus they could know that SRK is the biggest. He is biggest star at present but to say biggest actor, he will feel shy if he himself will consider himself in the category of AB, Dilip saab etc. Yes he is better manager than these film actors and he knows more economics than these people.
What Amitabh Bachchan’s political friends are doing, cant be a criteria to judge acting ability of Amitabh.
Its a cynical idea that Amitabh did not act well in Black.
Its very cynical and totally false idea that Indira Gandhi wrote letter to Khawaja Ahmed Abbas. You are habitual to turn eyes from the facts. and who told you KA Abbas is grand father of Shahid Kapoor? you mean he is father of Pankaj Kapoor or Neelima Azim?
and KA Abbas’s film Saat Hindustani is not a film one would like to make a debut?
Who told you Dr Hari Vansh Rai Bachchan was aclose friend of Indira Gandhi? Its not based on facts. They were friends to Gandhi family as Pupul Jayakar and all other but to say they were close friends is exaggeration. It can be said Amitabh Bachchan though was close friend of Rajiv Gandhi.
and you are matured enough to understand that with letters from PM of India and that too in 1969-70 when she was most powerful person of India, a newcomer will do those pathetic films like Pyar ki kahani, sanjog etc and will do small roles in Reshma aur Shera.

Ashok Kumar always liked Amitabh Bachcahn too much and rather Amitabh got his first national award when Ashok Kumar was the chairman of the jury and when Ashok Kumar was questioned why Amitabh shd get it for Agneepath he had replied Amitabh shd have got it much earlier in his career. its not only on Agneepath. he has been actor of par excellence and he deserved it much earlier.
Shammi Kapoor has quoted many times that Amitabh Bachchan is the actor who has given maximum number of shades.
Though no actor needs certification from anyone but I hope Ashok Kumar and Shammi Kapoor knew more about acting than you.

When you detest Amitabh then its a sure that anybody working against him will appeal you more and hence Shashi Kapoor, Vinod Khanna, Mithun etc always acted better than him in the films he did with these actors and perhaps audience were foolish that they did not give proper attention to these.
One needs good performance and consistent performance and Amitabh Bachchan is the actor who follows this trend.

For you Mithun is biggest actor though in reality he himself would not believe it. He is a good actor and wait for a post in coming days.
    May be you feel happy.
    But these comparisons are useless.

not only two various good actors co exisit in same era. and we are lucky we have been witnessing acftors like Dilip saab, Amitabh, Mithun when they are alive.

But yes if Dilip Saab’s and Dhamrmendra’s second marriage are making the causes to treat them as a second grade actor, or provoking us to attack their acting ability, or we shd dislike acting of Shatrughan Sinha and Vinod Khanna because they are associated with BJP, or we shd start rejecting good acting works done by Sanjay Dutt or Salman Khan because they have been made accused in some cases under IPC, then we have not learnt to live in civilized society.

People have to play roles belonging to their age. and with your logic, AB had taken resort of Rishi Kapoor’s young shoulders in Kabhi Kabhi, Naseeb and then later Aditya Pancholi’s in Akela.
and with this definition, Prithvi Raj Kapoor took energy from Dilip Kumar’s young soul in Mughal-i-azam. and then many many examples are there.
    These are pathetic.
What AB did in his son’s marriage does not make him bad actor, that may affect his social image and we as educated matured people shd try to learn to distinguish between two different things.
same things apply in positive side also, being a good actor does not give liberty to AB to do whatever he likes.
I think you are talking abt his social image and is imposing this on his acting ability which does not do any sane justice.
SRK is quite saleable and he did hard work in KBC but while during AB’s time, celebrities used to come on special occasions like during some festivals, during SRK’s hosteness, there was flood of celebrities on KBC’s set.
    That shd make a statement.
Dada Kondke was more successful in terms of commercial success of his films does that mean he was greater than Satyajit Ray?

Please read my comment more carefully. When did I say his harming actions made him a bad actor? Just “an above average” (said there), if you ask me! And yes! One’s wrong doings have nothing to do with acting skill. But, in the original post you hail him as an excellent actor who is a victim of political vendetta et al. I just say, he does NOT deserve to be worshipped either as an actor and definitely not as a hman being.

Why do you always drag Ray for instances of commercial success. He didn’t make a single film which he was sure would succeed commercially. He made them out of “PASSION FOR CINEMA”.

There are Orson Welles, Marlon Brando, Charlie Chaplin, Al Pacino for worshipping, who I regard too highly despite their personal shortcomings, (if any). But AB doesn’t have the right to make up the wrongdoings with his whatever “extraordinary” acting skills.

I NEED YOUR SUPPORT FELLOW PFC-ians WHO ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT CINEMA.

Now, you have infuriated me Mr. Whatever!

Ray sold the poverty of India, huh? You seem to be deeply influenced by Nargis Dutt! Do you think India is all about the glam and glitz of Manmohan Desai and Yash Chopra pictures? Is everything in India very modern as being presented to make a “developing” country to the western countries? I ask how you how much do you know about India or even cinema beyond some filthy bollywood movies? If you knew ANYTHING you would certainly know the allegory behind my name.

And Ray didn’t have to sell the poverty. Isn’t it known all over the world per se? Where, in this country even now crores of people die of malnutrition and a drop of drinming water. A major part is under povery level now. An Indian, you? Do you know about the famines that attacked India one after another?

Do you know who Akira Kurosawa was? A famous qoute by him: “Not to have seen the cinema of Ray means existing in the world without seeing the sun or the moon.” Maybe he was being just too naive. Not everyone is as intelligent as you!
Not too far, the best man in Bollywood, Vishal Bharadwaj also amplifies his views. It’s in a rediff interview; I’ll provide you links if you wish.

Maybe your knowledge of cinema is bigger than him.

I am just a filthy person!

Ray was the first person to show that poverty is not everything about hunger and regret, it can even be a cheerful ride. That’s what makes his films special. By the way, please mention the films other than Apu Trilogy by him about poverty. It’s the best ‘human’ story ever told. The joy of life rests on the conquest of poverty, that’s what he showed. FAR closer to reality than any of Bolly movies and for that fact, AB movies. I believe you may also accuse Charlie Chaplin of “selling poverty”; for, he made almost no films without this central theme.

He showed what you call passion for cinema.

And I wish he sold the poverty. Then he wouldn’t have spent his life in a rented appartment in 1, Bishop Lefroy Road in Calcutta. If he sold poverty, he would have never become what he had. If he sold poverty, his apartment could be covered by ‘Gold’ and there would be A/C in every room. Yes! I visited it! If he sold poverty, his genius son Sandip Ray wouldn’t have to wait for any producer to translate his father’s stories to the screen.

So, according to you, Ladri de biciclette was nothing but Vittorio De Sica’s hunger of money. Incidentally, this happens to be the career-driving films of both Ray and ANURAG KASHYAP.

So, should I expect you to call Black Friday a commercial film because it sells “national tragic event”? So only money, no passion!

I know, you are gonna castrate me with your mighty words after this comment. I admit that I defeat and I am a bloody fool! I wholeheartedly admit you to be the most inetelligent person e’er on PFC. Congrats for your success!THE ONLY CINEMATIC GENIUS – RK.

Black Friday is a commercial cinema (from producer POV if not from Directors POV) otherwise why Producer would care that it shd have earned money. Every film is commercial to some extent. If not towards money then towards praises.
Authors, directors they need either commercial success or appraisal of readers and audience. This is only at later stage when they get some content they can manage to deny these things but not in starting of their career. otherwise nobodyx will ever use this word career. Career means depending on others.

That says a lot for who likes whom.

As for the worst movies in india they are Besharam,Ajooba,Mard,Toofan and numerous other movies Amitabh made from 1970 to Jhoom Barabar Jhoom which is easily one of the worst movies ever made, now as for Mithun he has taken artistic risks but as for Amitabh he has never made a movie ever which was artistically orientated .

Renoir made River before Ray made Pather Panchali. So he couldn’t have been the first to sell Indian poverty and even if it is selling poverty then he did it well, like Mother Teresa. As for AB, well, he’s got three national awards, many magazine and channel awards, so obviously there are many who think he acts well and obviously there are others who thinks he hams big time in the same films – Agneepath and Black – which he gets awarded for. So to each his own. Don’t fight over two faces of Indian cinema. This blog is much read and it may seem you are throwing mud at yourself…

Dr Romuz: ur comment is generating two types of reactions in my mind:
I am not sure if Hema Malini being producer of Sharara but yes Hema Malini, certainly took Mithun in Dil Ashna hai, her first directorial venture. I dont know if you will call Dil Ashna hai, one of the greatest film ever made in Hindi because it had launched SRK also in hindi films.
U have missed the latest news that SRK has now statue in France also.
Regarding awards if awards make a film maker or actor greatest then ( hopefully Charles aka so many things ricci will forgive me for using Satyajit Ray’s name again)Satyajit Ray was nothing on world’s map covering many great directors because his films never got any Oscar. But we know he was one of the greatest film maker. so these awards swards cant be criteria. there was a period in India, where directors used to picturise their films under light coming from zero watt bulb and they tried to insert them in the category of so called Art films, a movement started by some great film makers and hence when any tom dick and harry started making those kind films movement saw premature death.
I just recall some months ago you had commented that last time (first time also for you) Amitabh had acted in Saudagar. That was a very ordinary film having so many lackings in every field. if Gurh banana and perh par charhna is acting then certainly he did very fine job there. But as art lies in eyes of watcher so perhaps for you thats the film, for me it was not. Just to show ordinary characters can not be a criteria to declare a film as great.
If Mithun’s talent has been wasted then he is more responsible than film makers. He had got good position at BO and in film industry which he himself wasted by dying for few bucks. He became a shrewd businessman and hence he became source of making some vulgar kind of films. he had a hotel in bangalore and filmmakers were forced to do shooting there. all actors were fixed in his chandal jallad and what not kinda films.
If he lost respect then he is responsible. he misjudged people’s love for him. He did not want to fulfil their expectations from him.
so result is his works are like a muddy pond and sometimes lotuses are seen there.
Its a pity an actor of his calibre almost wasted his talent.
If youi have any access to him, then please advise him to do some good films. he is not in that situation when he had come to bombay from culcutta in 70s. now he is rich and can afford not to do bogus films. He can wait to do only good films.

This is going to be funny so pls take it that way only.
I had a dream last night and I got this revelation abt whatever you have been saying since long. Whatever wrong has been happening with Mithun and his career its all because of Amitabh and his propaganda gang. If Amitabh was not there then Mithun was going to be Amitabh for all audience and not only Amitabh of poor people (though I dont understand this tag- when cinema ticket is same for all then whats this rich or poor). We all shd fight for Mithun’s rights.
He has a strong fan base in BENGAL and especially in Culcutta but its conspiracy of Amitabh that some people have made a temple in Culcutta where they adore Amitabh’s statue. First this is blasphemy to adore a person and that too a living person but for some time if we accept this stupid act of some blind followers then this temple shd belong to Mithun. First this is his state and this is his city. So we shd make a plan.
Now I have got two minds here. First we are not Mahmood of Ghazani or Aurangzeb that we can demolish an existing temple and can make a new building there with the ruins of that temple. Wew are not even present days fanatics that may try to make it disputed land so that stautues of Mithun and Amitabh lie outside and people fight over ownership of the land. and its also not possible to establish Mithun’s statue in same temple where Amitabh’s statue is already existing as that will make Mithun’s status less which you and many others will not like.
So other thought is to make a new temple and for this we need money.
What abt collection and donation of about 2k-5k Pounds, then it can be a good start.
Mimoh is going to start his career and SRK is helping him and in few years we can establish his small statue also there in that temple.

    please think over the proposal.

Ray got honorary award on his death bed. He actually gave a video conference speech on the screen from the hospital bed.

all greats dont give much weightage to any award. and perhaps they cant and they shd not. If they come on their ways they accept.

Can a single person be chairman of selection committee for long? Harmesh Malhotra can be at the most for 2-3 years. is not it?

I was not saying that he was one who actually sent jeans. It was a rhetoric to corroborate the fact that we choose people like harmesh malhotra with creditable filmography (nagina, nigahen, etc) as the jury member and then expect us to be recognized. There has to be some credibility of Jury members.

RK in my years of interactions with Foreigners esp from Europe SATYAJIT RAY is the only name everyone knows. And this was even before I was a film freak. Everytime I would ask anyone about our films the first name on most people’s lips is always Ray. Now maybe Shahrukh is a famous name. But famous & respected are two very different things.

So I don’t think you can say something like that

“Satyajit Ray was nothing on world

sir ,(RK) your ignorance of movie world is apparent from the fact you have no idea who produced sharara ,it was an adaptation of irving wallace book second lady produced by hema starring raj kumar and herself with mithun and tina .you can contact her to find out the other details .your counter arguments are actually countering your own arguments ,as you are the one who raised the issue of awards as a merit to amitabh ,mithun has seven national award nominations and 4 awards so you can be sure he is not wasted at all ,as for cheap movies there is nothing cheaper then nishabdplease go and watch it and then we can take the argument any further.but i think it will be wasted as your lack of knoweledge of both good cinema and cinema in general is obvious regards

I was away from net last week…seems like I missed all the action here.
Like they say, A Picture’s Worth A Thousand Words.
Here is something that a friend of mine drew about Amitabh: A farmer, issue. (I plead guilty of self-promotion)
    http://8ate.blogspot.com/2007/07/sandeeps-cartoon-corner.html
In his interview ‘Amitabh Strikes Back’ telecasted tonight on NDTV, he even quotes the definition of a farmer as given in some dictionary.
    http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/story.aspx?id=NEWEN20070022380
”It’s becoming a controversy because the media wishes to put it that way. The definition of a farmer was put across in such a way as though it was mocking me, it was full of sarcasm.

    Vinayak:
Sarcasm is good and many times its very good. and to say something which is covered with layers of humour is best way to present the things.
Many people have been doing this and many humour based columnist do this. If you watch Great Indian Laughter Challenge then you must be finding many comedians taking Amitabh Bachchan’s recent controverial matters in funny ways.
If one has not laughed since ages then he must watch Kuljit Dubey, a contestent there while he is digging graves of Abhishek and Aishwarya’s marriage. Completely hilarious act.

But all said and done, Let Demi God and Gods and atleast their God status shd vanish for once and all and let actors be actors, nothing more nothing less.

This Demi God status if helps them then it harms them a lot whenever there is some controversy then its blown up out of proportion else every tom dick and harry in india is enjoying this trick of remaining farmer to save tax. AB also fell for this trick then it shows he is also not above rest of the countrywallas. and Many other film stars and sport stars might have been doing same trick since years but luckily (luck for them) they were not caught. Extra attention to stars is a bullshit thing. At present these stars are demanding less public attention and they shd be given as that less public attention bring them down on earth also. They shd be professionals as any other professional. and this proper treatment from public will set the market in good manner also. As a Soldier is doing his service at border but nobody is giving millions to him to show him in Advertisement then why a cricketer shd be given mad sum of money? He shd be given satisfactory money with response to their performance on ground and not for their long hairs hanging on their shoulders.
    Hope this sarcasm work well:)

I was talking to a Egyptian Taxi driver in Saudi Arabia and he told me that he has seen all the movies by Amitabh Ji. People in Oman, Yemen, Turkey, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, UK, USA and many more knows Amitabh ji properly. I think you are one of those musi’s who are die hard fan of that Haklu SRK. Thats a funny thing regarding Dr Romuz and Usman Khwaja.
I got a chance to read few initial posts of Amitabh Bachchan on his blog and here at PFC and everywhere on net Dr Romuz and Usman Khwaja simply try to treat Amitabh Bachchan as the worst actor ever appeared on the surface of Hindi cinema and there either of them (Dr Romuz or Usman Khwaja) had published a long comment prasing Amitabh Bachchan and seeking his attention towards this praise. If they get power they will erase the name of Amitabh Bachchan from the cine history and will inscribe Mithun Chakravorty’s name in embossed letters as biggest actor (which he himself will not accept).
Consistent character bhee koi cheese hai ki nahin?:)

  76. Hmm RK, i had my experience with Romuz and Usman at a website called www.mouthshut.com, where i earlier published some movie reviews of mine. Usman Khwaja used to publish the same sort of anti AB articles, in fact he was persistently critical of Abhishek and Aishwarya. Usman did have a good knowledge of World cinema, but the major problem with him was his king size ego, if u dared to disagree with his views, he would launch a personal tirade against you. And that got to him on Mouthshut, where he indulged in some very cheap personal attacks on certain members. It was then that some members did not take it lying down, and launched an all out attack on him, and Mouthshut, had to ban him forever. BTW i thought it was Dr.Usman Khwaja.

Incidentally Usman’s user id on Mouthshut was Oz, and in fact during my early days at PFC, i was wondering whether this Oz was the same one here. As for Romuz, he was more of Usman’s lap dog, parroting everything his master had to say. In fact after reading through some of Romuz’s posts, it makes me wonder whether he and Usman are the same guy.

  78. Ritu Raj Kalra Ritu Raj Kalra says:

Amitabh Bachchan is a legendary legend if I am permitted to use this coinage. He is a man with debonair looks, a pleasing friendly personality and a completely outstanding talent for acting. He is India’s only superstar with an actor built inside and puts to shame the choclate heros ney boys like the modern day actors be it SRK or SK who mimic and stammer and are busy copying him in more than one ways.

The first ten spots of Hindi film stardom to this global icon whom we call as Big B. His macho image in real life overcoming many upheveals and accidents some fatal and his brave and successful fight against life threatening diseases prove he is what he named himself in over 20 movies and that is “Vijay”, or Victory. Big B is an original, natural and cult inventor whose mere presence even if it is silent is enough to chill your spine and make blood run through your cheeks in excitement. His versatility and passion coupled with his energetic emotional outbursts are enough to even make even the dead take notice and he sets the screen ablaze with his dynamo magnetic appeal. He is a Charles Bronsan and Robert De Niro rolled in one.

This guy Big B has inspired actors and actress all ages to give their best or else be eclipsed. The most popular and commercially successful movies of Hindi filmdom have come from him no need to mention names. A career spanning 40 years and more than 160 movies almost all being classics and blockbusters puts all other to shame. Movies are made specially keeping in mind his persona which is probably not true for anyone else. Big B is probably equalled in only some ways by only Dilip Sahib.

This great guy can play any role with a natural ease and always exceeds the expectations of his team and audience. Big B has a tone that reminds one of a person with natural leadership of the highest order. He does movies all which have an entertainmental theme be it Anand or Don or Sholay or Hum.

Big B ia the stuff that get demi God status because they deserve. This is a guy who has been termed as a single man industry.

Big B is real stuff both on screen and off screen because he comes out as a person with elegant mannerisms and a gentlemanish attitude.

Big B is the guy who first made people notice the corrupt environment beginning with Zanjeer and dethroned the earlier heartthrob Rajesh Khanna by starting the angry young man cult. This was a big challenge and big risk in those days and only Jayaji was there to support him when other actresses initially showed reluctance to even work with him something that Sallu Bhai also faced. They married only after the success of Zanjeer which was a super hit and made him numero uno.

Big B reaches both Hindi and non-Hindi population across continents no woder he defeated the likes of Charlie Chaplin and Marlon Brando. You can fool some people some time but not all people all the time.

When you see a Big B movie you get much more than what you spend. He has a magntic appeal and a very contagious successful persona.

Big B has a civic service bent of mind as he wants to be a journalist in his next birth. He is a noble soul because he abhors meat and eats only vegetarian or Saatvik meals as per Hindu shastras even though his castemen are known to be great meat eaters.

Big B is almost always politically right and enjoys appeal with a lot of people because of his panache and persona. Big B is a man head and shoulder above others who are either boys or in between. Comparing Big B with someone is like showing a lamp to Sun.

Do we not remember what Prakash Mehra said that who will give this horse any work and it was he himself instrumental in making this horse others look donkeys.

Big B is enough to be a single character in a movie. Others should thank their stars that they are sharing stage with him and rubbing shoulders with this doyen and father of Hindi filmdom.

Hats off to this guy and may God bles him with all he desires and wants to do. I pray that he be awarded a Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award. A stint at Presidentship would also fit the bill.

Jiyo Amit Jiyo! Kudos to this son of the soil!
