A very disturbing and powerful movie. It certainly takes guts to make something like this. The first hour ( after the brief prologue ) can be a bit dry to endure, but once you are able to get through it, the movie then keeps you hooked till the end.Fantastic performances by both the lead stars especially Charlotte Gainsbourg.
Its torture po** is disguise of art. No art can warrant such perversely insane images of genital mutilation.
If u are biblically inclined (which I’m not) you may get all the symbolism stuff, and maybe would be fascinated by the ‘all women are satan’ thingy!!
Normal people please stay away!!
Very well put by Gaurang. Exactly echo my views. ‘Normal people please stay away’ Lol
absolutely Awe#$%^&*Some
I like it exactly because of the reasons some ppl r hating it…
Even More Disturbing than A clockwork Orange…
It is a ridiculous film I have ever scene in my whole life. And the most disgusting part is that he has dedicated the film to Tarkovsky. Tarkovsky had talked about God and religion in his films but no in hideous way. I think it is an insult of Tarkovsky. If he was alive he would have die to see such kind of film. Normal people stay away from this film.
I really want to know why some of you people liked it. I would love to know what have you get from it. Is there something to relate with? You have to have reason to like it. I had this feeling in MAMI that most of the film buffs were fake. They were pretending to be film buffs especially TV artists and AD models. They had a least understanding of cinema. They like cinema which got some appreciation or award in west. Nowadays it has become fashion to attend film festival.
And I wonder no one is talking about Theo Angelopoulos’ films. He is one of the greatest film makers in the world. (Though I didn’t like his Dust of Time) I was very disappointed when I saw very few people for his masterpiece ‘Landscape in the Mist’. And they were showing at R mall Ghatkopar. The place was so isolated that there was no feeling of film festival there. You can give me thumbs down on it. I wont mind.
@valay
although i have no clue who that theo guy is … I did see a lot of articles on him in the newspapers…there was also an interview with him in mid-day i think.
Unfortunatly very less Indian know about him. He is probably the greatest film maker in the world. There are plenty of student around the globe who have and had taken Angelopoulos’ films as their subject for doing their doctorate. You can ask any hardcore fan of classic cinema about him. When I heard that MAMI is felicitating him, I was really very excited. But my excitement didn’t last long when I saw very few people were there for his films.
I went for MAMI just for Angelopoulos’ films. I felt so bad that there was no interaction with him after his film. And when we went to J.W Marriott hotel where the actual ceremony was going we did not allow entering. We saw plenty of Bollywood (so called) celebrities who are pathetic in their respective fields were going inside with tight security. We just wanted to meet Angelopoulos but we did not have access. And who had an access? Archana Puran singh?Priety Zinta? God help film lovers. People around Angelopoulos were completely unaware of his great films. I laughed when someone introduced Yash Chopra to Angelopoulos saying that he is a legendary film maker just like he is in Europe.
I think MAMI organizers did a mistake by inviting living legend like Angelopoulos to such a film festival which is organized by Bollywood. They should invite film makers like Steven Spielberg and James Cameron for Bollywood they are the legends. As Bollywood is working on mercy of Hollywood.
Bollywood please stay away from great world cinema.
Hey, I just saw the movie (a week before) and yes… I too had extreme reactions! A Great opening sequence, which elevated my expectations to even higher levels. but as the movie progresses my “Logical Mind” denies the on screen drama. To be honest, I turned it off. But it surely left a Great Cinematic experience which lead to repeat view(s) to enjoy the beauty behind it… No matter you “like” the movie or no, Antichrist is the one you can not afford to miss..
Didnt we have a guerilla rating for Paranormal Activity??
The movie is decent… for some reason to me it hooked me more due to the way story unfolds and how they ve made the movie, but my fellow audience, (mostly americans of all kinds {whites mexicans blacks even the asians here}) were all pretty scared…. the tension was there in the hall, and finally my friend when he shrieked everybody was a lil relieved that they all could shout or feel a lil lighter now….
Anybody who’s seen bhoot and Blair Witch Project should be impressed….
No guerrilla rating for it. The film didn’t have a firm nationwide release date, so it didn’t get included on the list. If I recall, it was released on Oct 16 or 30, but only in a few markets, not nationwide.
Still trying to see the film. I have been dying to see it since I first heard about it, and have been told that it must be seen on the big screen as watching it at home will not be as powerful…
