We have the official confirmation letter in hand..No Smoking will have it’s world premiere in Rome.. I am anxious.. it’s great to be selected, but.. how will it be recieved.. i didn’t sleep last night and i can’t sleep tonight.. i have been anxious, hypersensitive.. reacting to littlest of provocations.. we haven’t started mixing yet.. everything is coming along great but so much pressure of trying to meet the deadline of no smoking, getting started on the post of Hanuman Returns, doing pre prod on Dev.D and rajkumar’s “Aamir”.. after having got five drafts in hand trying to get a proper sixth one of my next years project on which i m way past my deadline.. my head is so muddled up.. i am confusing things, not spending enough time with my daughter, how will i manage.. all these years was sitting, waiting for things to happen, forcing them to happen, suddenly it’s all happening and together, it’s like a dam bursting, out of my control.. the water flows and so do i with it.. hoping all will fall in place.. how does one quality control.. how does one sit back and relax.. how does one breathe.. already have the early stages of ulcers.. too many cigaretttes.. too much coffee..too many studios.. only respite comes in form of PFC.. it helps me shift from one film to another..
was great to see my old relaxed self on the sets of Paanch..how did i get to this point..it’s been more than a month that i have been on the same book and on the same page.. i have started losing my Table Tennis games.. i want to shut off and leave .. but how does one do that..
last night saw a dead woman outside my house who had hung herself from the tree.. who was she.. she took my sleep away.. went away to the juhu circle at four in the morning and had coffee and sat there..watched people.. yet to make changes on my Dev.D.. who will be my chandramukhi..who will play bhuvan’s sister..where do i find them.. Abhay has to lose weight and we have to start shooting backwards.. how will we manage it.. hve to shoot for tishu..why did i say yes to acting..why can’t i throw my phones away.. why do we have to give so many interviews..however did other’s do it..
i m so anxious and restless.. need to exercise.. need someone to handle my work.. need to delegate. need to loosen up..i really need to sleep..

I saw cat’s eye this evening. It has one of the story very similar to what you mentoned for “no smoking”. Anyways the other 2 stories in cat’s eye are excellent as well. The comedy scenes in smoking story are too good. Hope the scenes in “No smoking” are as good with Paresh probably playing the maon doctor

i cant wait seriously for NS,after watching black friday. anyways this is good news, but im so upset at recent events like selection of eklavya as india’s entry to oscars, it wont even crack a nut , its stupid movie, i was rooting for black friday or dharm, plz dont think as this site is related to AB, im making out things, but i seriously wished for this 2 movies.
another shock came to me today in mumbaimirror when they gave details of who the jury members r. except, sudhir mishra, all r not at all eligible, the head is making some stupid skin show flicks and omg anil sharma is in jury and some dress desginer …thats enough to spoil my coming 2-3 days being upset about the kind of juries we keep for such important posts.

but seriously , in india cinema is highly under rated, there r no talks and written stuffs on cinema, all r behing basic masala bollywood movies, no problem with that, but neglecting real products is cause to worry.
i think juries must consist of film makers who have some knowledge of cinema , film professors , i also want economists and authors to be part of it but no b or c grade film makers whose understanding of movies starts and ends with love making scenes in a bedroom and some melodramatic masala bollywood film makers.
Mr. Kashyap, plz do something about it. i know im making stupid request, but such posts require some sensible people.
and i dont say that getting oscars is very important thing, but we hate it or love it, oscar is big brand now, and getting one , easily makes our appearance felt in world cinema and why not if it is doing so…i always appreciate critics awards and film festival awards.

I saw Johny Gaddar and really wondered why did u love the film.
It is simplly a complillation of twists(its like ,hey! u knw dere are dess twists in de plot,watch it!)
There was not any effect that one gets after de film is over.I could not relate to the protagonist’s character,neither his dillema or adventure or whatever that was.
Technically speaking also,this film neither sleek nor raw.If this film is supoosed to b a thriller then,it doesnt give a unfied experience.
Two good tracks ‘Move your body’ and ‘Hey Johny Gaddar’!Man,they have been wasted!!!You the audience is supposed to get a kick when the songs are played.Sriram has waste them in showing how one travels from Mumbai to Pune!!!
Acting is not outstanding.There are some fantastic scenes,i agree.But boss,the problem is they jst remain a good scenes and fail to make JG as a good thriller.
I assume Sriram is trying to break away frm the thriller genre and approaches used by Vijay ANand and Abbas-Mustan(I dnt care weder dey hav copied plotlines,deir treatment is different)
I think Sriram(de kind of impression i get frm dis film) is taking ‘Excitement as a reaction and not as an emotion.That is why film remain a mere mechanical pattern of twists and turns.

@ adish..what did u like in this film yourself??..leave everyone else…whats wrong with compilations of twists? the protagonist is supposed to be vulnerable in nature. Although it did lack a slight punch towards the end but it is taken care of by the earlier scenes which were done rilliantly especially the first half..the subtle look of absurdity on neil mukesh’s face was cool. probably the two tracks ur taking of is scene specific and could lose its novelty if used repeatedly.i think ur views are slightly incoherent..but again TO EACH HIS OWN!!!

Your writeup shows that amidst the angst of having a release round the cornor and having the anxiety of having to live up to a superlative Black Friday is actually morphing into the sleeplessness and perceived general negativity around you. Actually pal the promos of your No Smoking are quite intriguing and create a curiousity without revealing much. I hope it also turns out to be a film with a strong social message against smoking. Will it scare the pants off smokers ? I hope so.
Was petrified to read that you were actually swallowing generous doses of pesticide thanks to your charitable maid with an extra policing sense on perpetrators of hygiene. The ideal thing to do could be to go in for smokeless, odourless, less painful method of herbal pesticide which are n times more effective without any of the collateral damage.You need any ref just ask . I have been getting it done for the last three years and we are a happy roachless family :-)

This is with regards to the movie ” NO SMOKING” .. Sometime back i read somewhere that you guys claimed that no smoking is a movie with a social message not to smoke..blah blah.. also the fact that smoking was not allowed on the sets etc etc.
I have certain doubts abt the so called social message..
The movie has not released yet so i cant comment on the movie per se.. Lets talk abt the music.. I believe the movie which is suppose to be ANTI SMOKING and with a SOCIAL MESSAGE shld actually have music that is deterrent to a smoker. I guess the MUSIC has FAILED from that perspective..As some one said in POST 152, the music is trippy and you have acknowledged that fact ..I can tell you from a smoker’s perspective that JAb bhi Cig Jalti hai and Ashtray will result in someone or the other lighting a smoke….I personally like the music and its good..But why this drama of social message when the fact is that you guys mde a movie inspired from the short story of Darna Mana hai..You probably wrote the script feeling that this would be a good movie to make and went ahead with your plans ..
I believe when you make the movie for a social cause.. you decide first that you want to make a movie for the same and then chooose a particular subjct and try to write a script based on that..
In the case of NO SMOKING i guess the subject was chosen first, script was written and Haila this movie has a social message too ( Censor board ka problem nahi chahiye ) .. Can you elaborate on the IDEA of making NO SMOKING in a chronological order..Did the idea struck u first or did the fact that you wanna make a movie for a social cause?
CLAIM tht the movie will be deterrent to Smoking is as good as saying that DHOOM was deterrent to Robbers.. Yea Right

My guess is, you can’t possibly say that film is “pro-smoking” (which I believe, it is!) and get a censor certificate too.
Unless somebody goes on the roof-top and claims it to be ‘anti-smoking’, you can’t get clearances for all those flick-light-smoke-exhale scenes!
And as for the lingering (dangling?) question – then how come censor-waalas will not know after watching the film whether it is pro or anti smoking, then the answer is a) Censor board is a bunch of jokers. b) Anurag is smart!

A K. Johar movie can be appreciated as easily as one by Almodovar or De Sica or Kurosawa or R. Ghosh or Eastwood….

I was worried when I saw NS was an EROS Entertainment release, because I get to see most of my Indian films on DVD and EROS has the worst mastering plant. Well I just watched “Darling” which itself was a strangely made film, BUT the transfer to DVD was perfect and sound and video were crystal clear and they actually got the aspect ratio correct this time. I guess the merger with AYNGARYN actually helped EROS!
…and to the poster that doubted John’s acting abilities, I’ve always found him to do a good job with his roles.It always surprises me when I read reviews that say how bad he is and John even thinks he’s not a good actor. He has a quiet style that’s not too over the top and this role looks like it will suit him perfectly. I’m hoping the DVD will release soon in the US so I don’t have to wait to long to see it.
