Just a Joke?
I don’t know how many of you think of this topic as worthy of discussion. But it’s hot right now and has more to it than meets the eye. I think it’s worth discussing.
This is about a recent spat between Ashutosh Gowarikar and Sajid Khan at an awards function and subsequent news of some directors coming together to decide about not attending such awards or asking for the script of the program in advance.
There is of course a defense and retaliation offered by the other side saying everything is just a joke and that nobody can stop them from doing so in future as well. The defense offered also included a dumb excuse of ‘They do it in Hollywood’ (So that makes it right!!)
On this issue I feel like siding with Ashutosh Gowarikar. I haven’t been to the function and it is yet to be shown on TV but whatever news is coming out makes me agree with Ashutosh. He is bang on when he says ‘awards are meant to honor people and not to disgrace them’. How can you ridicule award winners? Or make stinging personal comments on people from your fraternity, who are not even present there to appreciate your so called jokes? And if it is the anonymous scriptwriters who are putting in these jokes, why do people like Sajid Khan and even Shahrukh for that matter, pretend they are their own as long as they are being appreciated? When people say whatever is being said is funny and witty, they don’t give credit to the script writer but when people say it is in bad taste, they say it’s done by the script writer. So, who exactly is doing this? Who is behind this public humiliation of some actors and film makers?
Humour is a very effective weapon when you want to insult someone and not get caught. You can say it was just a joke and get off the hook. That’s exactly what a certain section in the industry is doing for some time now. It started with the ‘Filmfare’ awards presented by Shahrukh and Saif. Since Shahrukh was not going to get any award that year he was given a chance to ‘Chamko’ on the stage and ridicule whoever he wants to. English media quickly applauded this and declared this act a hit. Some people were rubbed in a wrong way but nobody reacted very strongly as this was happening for the first time. People thought even though the joke was on them it was still a joke. But then it became a pattern.
Buoyed by media’s praise Shahrukh kept on taking potshots at everyone even in his interviews. He thought that now that the trial run was successful, he has the license to do it at will. He was the one who couldn’t resist doing it albeit in a toned down manner, from the very beginning. He was the one who said, Aamir Khan fans need an idol they can ‘look up to’ (an ugly comment on Aamir’s height) and ‘dropping a shirt is not my idea of acting’ ( this is on Salman even though he was a friend then) or ‘ Jumping from buildings is not acting’ (Akshay) and things like that. Shahrukh and actors-directors in his coterie get the complete media support and even members of the media participate in ridiculing or maligning people who dare to take ‘panga’ with Shahrukh or are his competitors in any way. (Read ‘Under Honey’s Hat’ in ‘HT’ or snippets in ‘Mid Day’ or ‘Mumbai Mirror’) If asked for an explanation these media people are also going to say that, it is just for fun, nobody takes gossip columns seriously, people just read and forget about it and that’s what people being ridiculed should do. Point being, certain people get attacked constantly with no platform to retaliate. So, why should rest of the industry tolerate this ‘humour’ with an agenda?
Have you ever seen any nasty comment on Shahrukh, Karan Johar, Farah Khan, Kajol etc? There is enough material to make fun of them. Popular Emcees, Anchors, presenters like Karan, Sajid, Shreyas Talpade, Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Deshmukh are all close to Shahrukh. These are the people who are all over the TV and award functions and they obviously don’t make fun of their friends. So again, people who are not a part of the circle are ridiculed.
Even comedians like Johny Lever, Raju Srivastava have been cracking jokes on the industry for so long and nobody has minded that. Many mimics keep mimicking actors-directors and many a times that too in their presence but nobody has ever taken an offense to that. In fact you can see people having a hearty laugh on jokes being cracked them.
So, why have people suddenly started getting irritated by this? It’s because as I mentioned earlier, this has become a humour with an agenda. People at the receiving end have realized it and with no platform to retaliate, have become restless. This isn’t funny anymore and that’s why they have come to the extreme of not attending award shows. As it is most of the awards have lost their credibility. It’s the closeness to the organization giving away the awards, affinity to title sponsors or arrangement of presence at the show in return of an award, that works rather than the talent. Awards that still have some credibility and see a good attendance from the industry will soon become ‘camp’ shows if these selective humour attacks continue. As it is, it’s in bad taste to ridicule someone publicly for looks, for work he has put his heart and soul in, for problems in his or her personal life or for not being successful. When the humour is genuine and intelligent, when it is pertinent and in good spirit, it incites only a hearty laughter and appreciation. But when it has other motives, somehow it shows. The joke stinks and you can no longer defend it by saying that ‘It was just a joke!

very relevant post..SRK started it & no doubt some his his jokes along with Saif work but I totally agree with ‘there is a pattern’ thing..SRK should stop indulging in cheap & ugly tactics just to get back at his fellow actors(he has been doing it with Aamir forever)..his healthy humour crosses boundaries most of the times now..even Saif in one his interviews to HT or TOI said a few days back that he didnt know if SRK ws settling some of his personal scores when they hosted Filmfare award functions together..acc. to that interview Saif also said that SRK wrote the scripts..And I dont even want to comment on Sajid Khan..when I was really young I used to find him funny but now I find him & his humour simply sick – just pathetic..every prominent & significant film person outside SRK’s camp should boycott all the awards..to hell with the ’script’
Well.. SRK has cracked many jokes about himself as well, his sexual orientation and KJo… and as far as i can remember they are all in good taste… nothing to insult other people.. One should have sense of humour to enjoy these jokes and not take anything too seriously…

Apparently Ashutosh told Sajid to shut up after he kept interrupting award winners and making insulting jokes. I find this amazing since Ashutosh is know as one of the nice calm guys in the industry. He must have been really pissed off. Finally someone had the balls to tell that Z grade director off. Sajid makes crappy hit movies and thinks he is talented.
BTW SRK’s so-called humor is not funny. He is settling scores in a sly way. Do you see him talking about Farah being fat or badly dressed?
Yet he will talk about other people’s weight or dress sense. Does he make jokes about YashRaj movies flopping? No he focuses on RGV, VVC, SLB, etc.
I am glad Ashutosh finally put that fat a**s, sh*t head called Sajjad Khan, right in his place. By sheer lucky, that abominable crap of a movie called Hey Baby, was a hit, and he imagines he is one of the best.
Well SRK had this habit of ribbing people, from quite a long time, not new to him. In the 90’s, he had made snide remarks about Sunil Shetty, Mamta Kulkarni and Akshay Kumar as well.
People like Sajid Khan earn their bread and butter by crude jokes and comedy. Since they are not comedians they rely on mudslinging and demeaning their colleagues and pretend everybody is enjoying their bitching.
What Ashutosh have done should have done long before, people getting awards should not be disgraced on stage by any motormouth. Its their glory day they would like to remember it in a pleasant way.

Here we have a movie maker, passionate about his movies, who respects his technicians in an industry, where they r not not even given proper respect. And we have this Gas Bag making fun even of that.
Ashutosh Gowarikar, is a perfect gentleman in the industry. Even when Taran Adarsh wrote a scathing review of Swades, he did not verbally attack him in print, but just took it in right spirit. He is not a person known for getting into brawls and verbal ding dongs. So if he was so pissed off that he showed it right on stage, one can only guess to what extent Sajjid’s inane chatter must have riled him.
First of all thanks to Dhulia .. you are awesome.. It’s a fact what we have seen in the clippings. Sajid Khan thinks he is talented as well as her sister(in film making) GOSH…. this people direct films.. I still remember in “Main Hun Na..”(It’s really time to justify that he is still there apart from Rs.5 biscuits ADs) SRK … he is chasing a Truck in a rickshaw and it’s a HIT movie. Pathetic . I think this lobby(SRK, KJ, KAJOL, Farah, Sajid) do not get any other actor to act in their movie and SRK he is smart enough to do films with them becoz apart from them he cnt so called RULE anywhere. Infact latest YASH Raj Film (Aamir-Preity). I still dnt wanna write something to compare Ashutosh Gowarikar and Sajid Khan. GUYS PLEASE JUDGE ACTORS.

Firstly, Sajid Khan is not funny. Period.
Some of SRK’s jokes (along with Saif) were quite funny – one must admit – when they did it for the first time. One could also say they were probably in good humour at that time. However, over time, these have also stopped being funny (as much as I loathe Amar Singh, I believe that “darindrata” take on him was downright crude & pathetic).
I am fine with anyone taking potshots at others in interviews or on their blogs or any television show – some of them can be really witty (albeit cruel). It is their personal call AND space & they have to be willing to manage / face the consequences.
However, the same thing in an awards ceremony (using that platform) is in very bad taste in my view. Besides those indulging in such acts, the institution behind the said awards also has a very important role to play and should do their due diligence & make sure that the right people compere the shows & execute the entire programme.
Then again, we all know that almost all of these awards ceremonies are now like home entertainment programmes, with the primary aim being to mint money on the “live” telecast into our homes. Nothing more than celebrated “reality” shows. Is it surprising that eyeballs are the main consideration here? I wouldn’t be surprised if awards ceremonies in future stage such outbursts (this one may be real) or fancy walkouts similar to the one Akshay did (awarding his award to Aamir).
Gossip piece ,but I agree that Sajid is a nobody when compared to Ashutosh ,AG is one of the most promising directors on the scene.

thank you for your responses. Actually the name is Dhulai as in ’surf ki dhulai’and not Dhulia. Anyway, some of the members look upset on having a discussion on this topic as it is not concerning any film. But if we can discuss marketing of movies, making of movies, critics (and even terror attacks) why can’t we discuss film awards or manipulations? They too concern the movies and people we keep talking about. Anyway, manipulated succes of not so talented people bothers me immensely and I just couldn’t tolerate a talented and gentelmanly Ashutosh being insulted by one such man. I couldn’t tolerate SRK’s earlier digs either. Since the topic was in the media this time around, I thought of bringing it on PFC as well.

The male Sambhavna Seth – Sajid khan is a royal prick and an asshole. Period.
His only claim to fame was that he knew bollywood trivia and was a leech with stars. His sister really worked hard to get a position as a choreographer. Luckily for her, Chaiyyan Chaiyyan became a huge hit and her ticket to fame. (While she came from an illustrious family, they had seen very bad days.) sajid is the ultimate hanger-on, sidekick, roadie kinda guy. He used farah’s closeness with people like SRK, Sajid Nadiadwala, tabu, salman, arbaz, malaika, riteish etc. He used to host a program on TV called ikkey pe ikka which went on for a few years…wish he had stayed on the same.
His acting debut in Jhoot boley kauwwa katey was a bonafide disaster. Then came hey baby.
This MotherF**** had the balls to go onto tv and say that the movie was not copied from any other film.. “While there could be reference points to 3 men and a baby”!! Sonofabtich ripped of the hollywood film royally. The he had the balls to go on stage and say that hey baby was the tenth highest grossing movie of “ALL Times”.
Now he is making a new film…and we have to suffer him….

Sajid is a crapbag, more ful of shit than al the shit in Heyy Babyy and Slumdog Millionaire put together. Humour is fine, but humour driven by agenda and bias is not on at all. I thought the entire SRK – Aamir jugalbandi thru the press statements, blogs etc – was quite funny. Both guys proved that they possess a sharp wit & can take as well as they give. I wish it could stay restricted to such exchanges & not spill over to SRK’s compering of award functions as well.

In fact were it not Ashutosh Gowarikar (& some other selected names), I would have had my doubts over whether this happened really or was just staged to build up the audience for the show – like all those judges walking off the television reality shows & Anu Kapoor making a fool of himself by going “shoot me ..shoot me”. I wouldnt be surprised if such events are now staged across award functions ..in fact, no award show would be complete without at least one such act.
I don’t find Aamir witty at all. You can clearly see that somewhere there is a viciousness in what he is saying vis-a-vis SRK- and that especially comes to light in that pointless ‘Shah Rukh the dog’ post of his. Anyway- useless to discuss all this really.
Anyway its clear that most of the awards functions in India, including “Film Farce” are a big joke, and pointless discussing. I guess why people are upset here is to see someone like Ashutosh Gowarikar, one of the few sensible members in an industry populated by crap heads, burst out, and get his name dragged into this.

Alright, few random musings on this one.
1. I dont have seen this particular incident so I am not commenting on that. Thoda bahut namak mirchi lagakar bhi bataya hoga reporters ne. If what I see is correct then I don’t think Sajid said anything personally insulting. Its just that SK is not a very popular personality so that adds fuel to fire. I am sure there is something else to the whole thing.
2. Yes, few comments are getting as good as Rediff.
3. Its ending up as another SRK bashing session. I am not surprised.
4. Humor is subjective. Some may find Aamir’s slum “dog” humor funny. Some may not see any wit in it.
Vishesj why u get so upset about SRK getting bashed man. U think its fine for him to make sundry jokes about any one, but the King is not to be bashed eh. Its a free world, dude, SRK think its his birthright to make snide remarks about any one and sundry, and this has been there from long time.
As for Sajjid Khan, forget about his popularity and unpopularity, he is a disgusting specimen of the human race, and i am not going to change my opinion, whatever the rest of the junta speaks. Yeah i dont tolerate his humuor, and i find it plain sick, if some one does thats their problem,not mine.

Does not make sense, RGV is a movie maker, he is not a stand up comic or awards host. If ur using humour, be even handed, but making jokes against some people, and not against others, is plain dishonesty, or what u say in Hindi “Bhikau”.
You know, generally I don’t mind humour, but the kind of humour that is doing rounds these days as you mentioned is really starting to get to me. The thing is, I think, the other side never gets a platform to put their side of the humour up. Well written, and nice to see someone take a stance on this issue. Sure, it’s all about having fun, but who said having fun means throwing around insults and misbehaving to that degree?

I like SRK (a lot) but I really disliked his and Saif’s attempts at humour at last year’s Filmfare awards. They made fun of films which were in every way superior to their own only they weren’t hits.
One only needs a certain amount of intelligence to know that behind that pretence at humour was some real points being made. It wouldn’t have been so bad if their jokes were actually funny albeit malicious and cheap.
To laugh is not a crime. To laugh at people IS. Sometimes I’m actually happy that SRK is getting some of his own medicine back.

It all started when SRK and Saif hosted filmfare. That was funny with a couple of awkward introduction of ‘gay’ jokes – still tolerable.
Next year they came back and this time it was out of control – funny stuffs went out of window only to be replaced by sexual jokes, more gay jokes (they just would not leave them alone) and of course being critical about movies and actors. It was all the more painful to watch actors do it, whom you have come to love so much over the years.
Next year again it was SRK alone and this time he wasn’t even prepared. It appeared that he would just look at someone and make a joke thinking that it will be okay since he is loved by everyone.
Well, guess what, ITS NOT OKAY !!! I stopped watching award shows, they are a nightmare for me. I cant see my favourite actors go up and going crazy. I just see the award list next day. I dont know what Sajid had said, but I am glad someone opened their mouth in defense. And the first thing Farah could come up with is ‘It happens at the Oscars too’ ??!! Are you kidding me ?!! I have been following oscars for 15 yrs now. I am currently residing in US for the past 5 yrs now. I cannot remember a host making fun of the nominations or their nominated works. I do not deny some unacceptable or awkward jokes in the oscars/GG, but also I cannot remember those hosts coming back next year. For example, after Sasha Baron Cohen’s comments this year in Golden Globes, they are not getting him back.
What have our bollywood become? We have just a couple of good movies every yr, actors are always up against each other, films like ‘hum tum’ wins national awards, films like ‘paheli’,'eklavya’ goes for oscars, nobody appreciates a movie based on india wins big in GG – they talk about politicians, what have they become ?!
Please let us have at leave one award function with integrity where there will be glamor, fun and people from all movie times can enjoy and likewise the audience.
p.s. Anybody not agreeing with me can throw as much as abuse towards me as they like. I can take it all. I just HAD to say how I feel.
As expected there was some support from English press for Sajid. They generally do this cover up by preaching everybody to have a sense of humour. Its like ‘let our pets say and do whatever they want. You grin and bear it or else you don’t have a sense of humour..you are the idiots taking themselves seriously’. If at all anybody else tries to take a dig at SRK camp the English press pounces on him, tells the person to behave, underlines how tasteless it was and digs out his past to bring something up that will supposedly shut his mouth.
What I fear now is, when they show it on TV, they will edit it in such a way that it will look like Ashutosh got angry for some very trivial, harmless comments on himself and not because what was going on all through the show. ( I learnt he was upset due to comments about Harman,the hero of his next film.) Some of Sajid’s other comments may be cut altogether. I don’t know. Let’s wait and watch. BTW thank you again for all the responses.

On the contrary, I think Aamir rocks absolutely on the wit / humour quotient. I found the infamous “dog” post awesomely funny. Anyway humour is subjective & therefore best done (especially the wicked bits) only with people you have a good friendly rapport with & on the appropriate forum. Beyond that, who is funny & who is not also depends on who listens / watches.
I think its all a publicity stunt to get as many bums for the award fucntion to be shown on tv …:)

Well, i had opportunity to attend the star screen awards.First of all we have to accept the fact endrosed by sajid and Frah that award show earn a major chunk of money from tv broadcast.
Sajid made fun of everybody, but that was only on professional level.
The award show was supposed to end at 10.00 but was extended upto 11.30.
When acceptance speech was getting bigger than the length of movies, farah had asked some of them to shorten there speeches.
I wonder ashutosh would have voiced in oscars about 40 second time limit.

Akshay Kumar himself made a dig at award show, that he does not deserve award ,as he was not worthy contender.Implying that Awards itself farce, best supporting actor Arjun Rampal, may be he must have performed for the event free.
Farhan Akhtar was awarded for best debut, inspite of Rajiv’s better act in Aamir.They have best debut director award and best director awards also.I mean they want to make everyone happy.
Aamir’s director Was not even nominated.They gave award to Neeraj Pandey for best debut director as well he shared award for best director with Ashutosh also. I mean why you have to give same award to a person twice.The best actor award and actress had two category one popular and other jury.The award organiser cannot decide themselves weather they are popular or jury award.I mean Akshay Kumar is a good actor but to give him award for Singh is King . The award shows are nothing but stage performance , to be broadcast on tv and make money.

thanks for the first hand account of the event. Objectionable things may or may not have happened at this event but they do keep happening and I wanted to address that. Using humour to run down others just because you are in a position to do so is what I wanted to be discussed. Having an agenda for this humour is what I find highly objectionable. Eg – Farhan’s ‘Oye it’s friday’ with Shahrukh. In the opening part he says, ” blogs are a very boring thing. It is going out of fasion. Ek aadmi ne dinbhar kya kiya, kya khaya, kya piya, kya khujaya….who wants to know that?” Now it’s so obvious dig at Amitabh and Aamir.
Was it necessary? absolutely not. But you have this show, this tool in your hand. So, why not use it to trivilaise or run down competitors? So, enjoy! They can’t retaliate.

I think the award shows are also part of media circus.My question is weather award show any respect to artist at the last count there were more than dozen awARds begininG in jan ending in june.Phew that,s almost 6 months of award show.
See Anurag was present for giving one awARd, farah and he exchanged some comments, which may seem rude to some people but Anurag and farah took it in Jest.
Akshay was going to perform at the same award function, but he was upset when organisers started to negiogate.He become further upset when his name was selected for best popular actor, instead of best actor.He mockingly said that Awards are given to now a days everybody, he did not deserve it.
Now a days this Award show also has pre-recorded performance for television.Here it was Bipasha’s perfomance which will be recorded.
After all , people should know that there is law of land, the award show had to end at 10, but it was extended due to some really long unwanted speeches.
As for people making digs, that is there in every field as they are related to media it becomes much more visible.

Why is Farah Khan shielding Sajid Khan? Sajid Khan screwed up so let him fix it. Farah in fact is doing more harm to Sajid by hiding him behind her ballu than letting him fight his own battle. I have noticed that nobody likes these SRK, KJO, Farah, Sajid etc. group…. all my friends hate them… we change the channel when these ppl come on tv… but they keep popping on almost every alternate channel….
So in short, the media has made them into some bullies and these guys are taking full advantage of that…. we audience hv to suffer the pain and boredom so much so that i hv decided to stay away from TV completely…. It’s a insult to common audience as well….

I agree with Ashutosh Gowarikar. I am an avid movie goer and actually a independent film director. I have made movies in India and other countries. I have never seen this ridiculous humour anywhere. Awards are meant to honour NOT dishonour. Sajid, Farah are insecure beings who build themselves and their esteems by making jokes which hurt and which do have a hidden agenda. I dont understand why this humour is considered mimicing Hollywood. Oscars, Golden Globes and other such awards slightly poke fun NOT ridicule. There is a difference.
By the way, poking fun of yourselves (SRK making fun of himself as being homosexual) is a defensive joke. This is different. He knows he is getting attacked by the media or the public about his constant relations/partnership with Karan on films and fraternity, and knows he should use jokes to ward off these false accusations.
Bollywood needs to learn how to appreciate good movies. Recent examples of worthy movies: Slumdog Millionaire, Taare Zameen Pe.

I saw the show last night. I’m glad someone put Sajid in his place. He and his sister maybe talented, but surely don’t know their limits. He kept saying that he was doing it to entertain people – I’m not sure if people will accept anything under the sun as entertainment. The show he was putting on was simply putting off most people in the audience. Very often the speakers were being cut off with silly jokes.
I can understand Ashutosh losing his cool. Sajid can’t get too far with his slap-stick comedy. And what was that he said about the industry going into recession if such stuff isn’t part of award functions? Ridiculous! You need a funny host, not a circus clown at award functions.

i cannot agree more with most of the groups comments as to why only certain sect of film makers / actors were targets.. e.g Wardrobe malfuncation repeat of Kangna Ranaut, really felt her so ashamed and pity in front of everyone.

Ashutosh G, on the other hand, comes across as one of the most underrated film directors in the industry.
Desi junta have to become better at giving the right recognition to right people! Instead, all the noise and fame is around the wrong people, and it soon goes into their head. And being severely insecure, they join the ‘toot-your-own-horn bandwagon to maintain their noise level.

Well I agree with the majority on Sajid being a douchebag at the function. How can you forget the part where he was playing “bollywood beggar” and when he came across Neeraj Pandey, he walked away making fun of his clothes. Was he really supposed to do that? I mean every humor can be appreciated as long as there is a certain limit set.
I was appalled by the way Sajid Khan took the high moral ground, claiming he had the right to crack insulting jokes. It would have been in far better taste to simply apologise for having hurt anyone’s feelings. I think he was simply insecure and had to prove to everyone watching the show that he was not going to be intimidated by someone of Ashutosh’s calibre. Whatever I have seen of Ashutosh on TV or read about him in magazines, he always seems a level headed, earnest, sincere person, who is obviously also very talented. Sajid on the other hand has always come across as a crude, over-the top, shallow entertainer, whose jokes are hardly ever witty. Sajid epitomizes the worst of Bollywood, low on talent, high on hype (about himself), crude and well, it might sound archaic, but not a gentleman.
I feel after watching the awards that it is all a joke ! U guys should know that there is something called as TRP very evident in our TV shows ..more mud you throw on others the more the ppl will be keen to watch your tv channel ..simple ! Sajid has come from hosting some cheap TV shows and he wants to take his TV audience humour to something like screen awards ..just imagine ppl these awards are being watched all over the world and beleive you me not i live in NZ and I was laughing hopelessly as to the state of affairs are country and ppl are going to .. I think Ashutosh was right when he gave it to Sajid. Sajid is known for his below the belt jokes, and i wonder why he hosts the Screen Awards time and again. Unfortunately, he gets to take pot shots on others while others, since not wielding the mike only can listen and see themselves disgraced.
An award function should have a degree of dignity, otherwise it begins like a mockery. With many clubs in the film fraternity, people use it to get even with others on the pretext of cracking a joke

SRK has a good sense of homour but his grandiosity leads to him making jokes at other people’s expense. You can do that with friends. Not with colleagues and other professionals. Definetely not with seniors. Last time he made so much fun of Amitabh Bachchan, the most gracious man in our industry. SRK is ridiculous and pompous. So are his friends in the industry e.g. farah khan and her brother.

Lear 2 laugh guys! If the joke is bad ignore it. Ashutosh has the right to make movies that blatantly distort history and I am sure the historians cringe at his work. But hey…. its good entertainment and if people don’t like it they can stay home. Similarly if you can say what you like through your medium you have to learn to take it as well.

The main reason he got mad was because almost all the award winners were not given enough time to say a few words, they just gave the award and never gave chance for them to say something…..instead took the time to fill the function with crap jokes and humiliation of other stars as a joke….the events were great but not the in between skits by SK, such as becoming a beggar and talking to stars on the floor…etc….
Ashutosh states that that time could have been used for award winner to speak their mind….also he stated that he wanted to hear few words from the Lyrics Writer etc….
Also when anyone gave a thanks speech they were always interrupted by SK..e.g. when John Abraham gives the speech.

Just watched the show online. Disgusted me the way SK took liberties with the people he didnt like (dont buy the crap that it was scripted). Felt Talpade was unnecessary and got stuck with the wrong crowd (Farah and her bro). Impressed with AG for having the guts to call a spade a spade, even tho others of similar stature would not but he did (Obviously dont expect new comer directors/actors to feel the confidence to tell SK/FK to shut up). Cant believe Indian media/newspapers didnt think it was important to talk about ‘language/obscenity on public tv’? Is this acceptable on tv today coz TRP’s and privatization of media have become the real BAAPs and no longer the audience! Did anyoone read anything by Indian Express/Star News people on this?

I thought that Farah’s comments was totally wrong esp when she made comments about appearances & attires of those called on stage to give out awards. I felt like saying, “look whose talking!”

The sad thing is that when Shahrukh did this last year, no one objected..but shahrukh should remember people are not fools..they do understand every act of his…they should not underestimate the junta of india…..The whole show left a bad taste in our mouth…On the name of joke, they should stop doing nautanki…One should present classy jokes in order to make people laugh…people who are saying we don’t know to laugh on ourselves should know the difference between cheap & classy…

i would really like to say just one thing. there are always two sides of a coin..both saajid khan n ashutosh gowarikar have their own reasons for reacting the way they did..all of us can have opinions and thats fine. What is not fine is the way people are calling saajid n farah ugly! ho gives anyone any right to call people ugly..and secondly someone mentioned how the brother n sister were brought. That is absoutely ridiculous. Would you like anyone to point fingers at ur parents upbringing of u! Obviously not, so i think we must refrain from saying anything negative about other peoples parents.
Sajid and his sister may have some talents, but definitely not in compering. Dhulai and some other commentators above have raised many valid points. I am impressed by the intellgence (bar some exceptions) on this forum. Keep it up people. India needs thinkers.
What else can you expect from Sajid Khan – who copies from old English movies and then re-hashes it to make his own sub-standard movies. Alteast Ashutosh tries to make original movies and he has a right to feel offended by these cheap sub-standard so-called hosts, who get sadistic pleasure by insulting original work, something which they are not capable of doing.
Srk has earned the right to mock his peers tastefully. But who the hell is this douchebag sajid khan. I find it funny to think how much publicity the idiot must have gained at the expense of poor Ashutosh Gowarikar. Any one who enjoys their crude and distasteful humor, needs psychological help. Its so embarrassing for intellectual people to even watch such awards now. people like Ashutosh make the country proud with films like Jodha Akbar, and people like Sajid Khan compere shows and take it all way dragging our name down to the dumps. its disappointing to see that such people are still roaming around with their heads held high, when they bring so much shame upon their colleagues and audiences
Let Sajid Crack jokes on his sister Farah Khan ! Let him learn that eveny human needs to be treated with respect and if he is intelligent let him really make people happy in a sifferent sence rather than insulting the achievers who are the pride of our nation.I am for Mr Ashutosh and admire all the good they have done to bring fame to our country. I have started hating Sajid after this brawl and wish that such teasing shows come to an end because they have reached their heights of insult .

Ashotosh is an awesome director but he needs to take a chill pill. Sajid, is pretty funny at times, and making fun of personalities is pretty common internationaly. Some of Sajid’s, jokes were in bad taste and at times. I dont understand, why gay jokes have become so funny in India, but Ashutosh made an Ass of himself by blowing up on stage. Sajid, Farah, SRK very often make jokes about themselves and seem very open to others cracking jokes at their expense.
You’ve got the realize that they dont speak impromptu. The scripts are written by the organizers, way in advance.
Ashutosh, instead of making at a crack at Sajid, marred the evening by turning it into a head on collusion on stage.

There must be some decency in the TV shows. Sajid is a loud mouth and goes too far. He must be banned from all TV shows. There are hundreds of better MCs in India than him. Hats off to Ashu for standing up against this vulgar brother sister team of Farah and Sajid.
I saw this award ceremony recently.The award ceremony was quite entertaining till Ashutosh came and spoilt it and there was bad taste at the end.I think Sajid was quite entertaining and he made us laugh. Humour should be taken in the right spirit.
Hi All, no one is right and no one is wrong. Even the great Abhitabh, Rakesh Roshan, Dharmander etc enjoy these entertainment. Yes, the SRK group should pick the individual’s who they know, and will not take it personal. Anyways, I enjoy most of the stuff.
I watched the re-telecast of the awards yesterday. Sajid khan was sick, there was no humour in the entire show, he pulled Shreyas also down with him and made the show cheap and crass. Please don’t compare these idiots with SRK and Saif… SRK and Saif’s show rocked… it was hillarious..
Good article. You have hit the nail on the head when you said this was humour with an agenda. Sajid Khan, farah Khan and many others think they belong to the SRK clique and they can do no wrong. Ashutosh was totally right in everything he said. I just watched the rerun of the show last night. What bothered me was that there was no-one among the film fraternity who spoke up in Ashutosh’s support either in the awards or even later. Sajid did a miserable job of hosting the awards with cheap humour shots at people who wouldnt dare contradict him. Good for Ashutosh, we need more like him!

Sajid is just a complete prat on screen and has been for however many years he has been presenting on TV – I have yet to watch a decent/humourous show presented by him.
Farah i like a big bully girl (like the one everyone hates and is scared to cross at high school) She thinks her closeness to SRK gives her the ultimate tight to mouth off all the time
