Finished watching “Loose change” …. an American documentary based on sept 11 and conspiracy theories revolving around it. Now if you ask me I seriously don’t know if what it says is true, partly true or totally false…..and I really don’t care if its true , partly true or totally false ….but out of many things which it stated the only thing that mattered the most …..is a question which it tells us to ask…ask the authority …ask the government ….and that question is very well relevant for all of us here in India and the question that our films should make us ask whatever governing body it may be ….

“ASK QUESTIONS …. DEMAND ANSWERS …”

Surfing through the news channels after hearing about the Delhi Blasts….it was all like d'©j'  vu…

Varanasi,

Mumbai Locals,

Malegaon,

Hyderabad,

Jaipur,

Bangalore,

Ahmedabad,

Delhi …..

similar people …similar places ….similar voices ….similar speeches….nothing new…yes couple of news channel or may be more, having ridiculous common sense or lack of it showing pictures of blast and interviewing a kid who saw people placing a bag in a dustbin and making statements like “delhi ke Dil mein balsts” ….i mean how ignorant and irresponsible and cheesy can they get? Sometimes I think these kinds of media waits for such catastrophic events and lick their lips after such incidents …. …Delhi police chief says blasts are intended as a mischief only and not to create a big loss of life……so 20 people being killed is not a big loss of life and the police would have been more serious if 200 odd people would have died ……

“A Wednesday” which may or may not be a great cinema but it asks the most potent question

“WHY DON’T WE NIP THEM IN THE BUD ?????“

Why don’t we ….if our “sources” know that there is a possible hand of SIMI or Indian Mujahideen or any damn organization…why don’t we go to the root of it?? Why?? Please don’t tell me that we lack the intelligence, we lack the technology or we lack the sources…..if at all if we lack something it’s the Will …..i know it’s going to be much more complex then we think but what the heck, here we are witnessing series of bomb blast , almost every month……we have to take some drastic and strict measures…….I am sure that the police will be able to nab few people behind this blasts but that’s not going to stop these people or some other people from blasting some other city …Every time after the blasts there will be a speech by home minister , chief ministers and many others condemning the blasts …. Hellooo but what next?? There will be hardly any blasts in the parliament or police quarters ….it’s always going to be a railway station…a crowded market…or a busy street ….so who is going to suffer ?? ….

“AAM AADMI THAK CHUKA HAI , USEE AAJAMANA BAND KIJIYE”

Recently there have been few movies dealing with blasts …..Are these movies going to change our attitude towards the blast, towards our system or towards our own lives? Is our system going to be affected by these movies? Again the answer will be may or may not or somewhere between …..Movies at times do effect…like the Jessica Lal murder case where Rang de Basanti acted as catalyst …..Actually RDB is the only film which comes to my mind which affected any court case in India …or are there more movies? …..so I don’t mind flaws in movies like Mumbai meri jaan and A Wednesday because at end of the day they raise questions ….how many of these movies are actually going to affect the common man and to what extent is debatable but these kind of movies are needed today ….we need many more movies which try to deal with common man’s problems and try to depict the anxiety and frustration of a common man during such events …..

so what do you think , will a film or few films together ever lead to a mass movement ???

This is exactly what i inquired in my article – Cinema impact on society. Cinema could impact profoundly on any subjects. On Terrorism, they are shown in more elegant way in SOME movies. Terrorists with long stylish (or spikey)hair smoking imported cigars and demonstrating karate or kungu for that matter. Indian era, captivated towards sophisticated echelon, look upon these factors rather than profundity of story. Great write up sir…I truly commend your interest on highlighting this subject.

Thought provoking…even that may sound similar…

Yes, its time to take ACTION, not just giving/showing reactions to what has happened….Movies will help…Indeed, RDB was a catalyst…It was a Hit movie, it reached many…many young people…who can bring a change….who do not want thier children to face terrorism…..and CHANGE can be brought by cinema….

(Sadly, Even now the Govt & Opposition is looking for agendas to face election based on terrorists attacks)
