Atif’s Doorie……go get it!!!
The first few lines of the title track Doorie, the one that’s on air these days is sounding damn good and so my curiosity level about the album was high. At the music shop, I had gone to buy something else….the shopkeeper was playing the title track of Doorie. I asked him if he could play the next track and then the third one and then the fourth one. He happily obliged and I decided…..enough. When most non-film and filmy albums are plain crap these days, four good tracks was good enough reason to but the CD. And yes!!! It rocks. Atif sang few bollywood numbers last year and what a break it was…from Himesh’s nasals and sweet as saccharine Sonu Nigam.
First the quantity, Doorie has 18 tracks…yes 18!. Nine songs and nine remixes….house mix, euro mix, soul mix, trance mix, club mix, energy mix, eternal mix, dance mix and freak mix….whatever they are supposed to mean…but basically remixes of almost all the songs.
Woh lamhe…woh baatein…ab to aadat …and tere bin…..you get the same kind of feeling when you start listening to this album. Doorie…Ehsaas…Hum kis galli…Kuch is tarah…..blend of rock, fusion, some melodic tunes and has that sufiana touch to it. There are few slow numbers also like O re piya, mahi ve and mahiya ve soniya….but they also work well. I didnt like only one track….that has few wannabe English words in between….God!! Why they also had to “crazy kiya re” ??
The negative thing about the album is that all the songs have similar kind of feel to it but like me, if you also simply love Atif’s voice, then trust me, you will love all the songs. My personal favourite is Hum kisi galli ja rahe hain…..searching for life…with little bit of head-banging…simple and meaningful words…plain magic….High on life!!! Though I don’t like remixes at all but few of the remixes here also are damn good.
The feel of all the songs may be similar but even then the lyrics don’t loose their charm. I think its because seven people have written these nine songs…..few old hands and few new ones….Sameer, Sayeed Quadri, Atif Islam, Sachin Gupta, Sachin Paul, Uzma and Shahzad. Music is by Sachin Gupta (new guy…was earlier with some Delhi based band…but I have not heard him before), Atif and Mithoon (one guy to watch out for….Bus Ek Pal, My Brother Nikhil, Anwar).
The cover design of the CD is not that impressive…. reminds me of Altaf Raja kind of album….lonely heart in chains…with roses. Also, if they could have put the lyrics there instead of just few pics of Atif in various poses.
To put in two words…..Simply great. All you Atif fans, go get it. CD priced at Rs 160. Worth every penny. Bollywood guys, r u listening ???

I Love Atifs voice. Its a refreshing change indeed from Himesh
yup, he has not shown any flexibility in his singing yet; his phase is somewhat similar to Adnan’s phase and Himesh’s phase. Cashing it up when something seems to click by churning out same stuff every week. It will die out after a month so. however, i agree, his voice is quite refreshing.
if you look beyond him and himesh reshamiya.. there is a guy called Pankaj Awasthi – he is ace! His debut album ‘Nine’ is half decent but songs like “Duniya” and “Khuda Ke Vaaste” are top notch!
Have you hear album ‘Ziver’?
Rabbi Shergill should be realizing his second album this year, i think.
Honhaar Goonda…m big fan of Pankaj Awasthi’s voice too. Yes! Yes!!Khuda ke vaaste…also he has done few ones for Anwar. Lost my Anwar cd few days back….so didnt get time to hear it properly. But one of his song is on air these days. Actually I love all these non-conventional, raw n rugged kind of voices more…Kailash Kher, Shafqat ALi, Raahat Fatel Ali, Swanand kirkire…long list.
Ziver…Havent heard the full Album..but just few tracks…liked them.
Rabbi is also doing one bollywood film. Looking forward to it. Also, Kailash Kher’s next album after Kailaasha.
it’s not just about his voice; he is a good writer and composer as well. yeah, i have heard his work in “Anwar” – one track is from his “Nine” album and rest of the tracks he did for “Anwar” are sort of theme music.
a lot to look forward….
i have loved such kinda music the whole of last year, i have tripped on infinity-salman ahmad, call-jilawatan, jal, raeth, n the likes. will chk out atif too…
thanks, pnu
And isn’t Daler Mehndi planning to release his sufi album?
i finally checked out the album. The album got sort of rock-ballad feel to it. i did not like it that much. i only liked Mahia track which is from his previous album and tune of a couple of tracks, that’s about it.
I am big Atif Aslam fan.. i love the guys voice from the first time I heard Adaat which if I remember correctly was about 2 yrs ago. I had that track on repeat straight away.
Then he came up with some great numbers, all of which I’ve liked so far. Doorie, I must say, didn’t do that much for me. I was expecting more maybe or maybe I have to listen to it more for it to grow on me.
I love Atif’s voice too. Although I can’t manage to get hold of his CDs. :((
aftif’s voice has pain….. for love
HG, daler mehndi is finally coming out with an album?? when who what why how?!? i wanna know! he’s been absent for too long!
striker, During that sufi concert last year.. he had said something about releasing a sufi album in year 2007. I read in one of his interviews on musicindiaonline, but can’t find the link.
i love Kuch Is Tarha…that track is so soothing.
Atif even sounds..should i say..slightly different in this song..however the “ahhh aahhh” in the background is dejavu of Woh Lamhe and Aadat /:)
but i still stand by my statement that he’s better to listen to than Himesh
phoenix, rabbi shergills hindi film soundtrack ‘Delhi Heights’ is out, if you have not yet checked out the album, then:
http://www.musicindiaonline.com/music/hindi_bollywood/s/movie_name.9005
the album is disappointing; it is an ordinary album – it is just above average. Rabbi Shergill sounds a lot like Hariharan in some tracks. the both song ‘Dilli’ and ‘Ey Gori’ had potential to be great but fall a bit short.
its a good album if u want listen to it only 1 or 2 time.
bcoz after sometime u will get fed up and throw it away i did this
i loved mahia ve soniya n ehsaas remix
NOW i Just dont want to listen to it
love song of doorie
hi atif aslam..u rock..u r my favourite singer because apkay voice mein feelings hain,emotions hain n U R THE BEST..keep going……
