Checkmate : Finally a thriller that thrills

Murphy’s law (From Wiki):

“If there’s more than one possible outcome of a job or task, and one of those outcomes will result in disaster or an undesirable consequence, then somebody will do it that way.”

“Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong” .

Murphy’s law , this is what one of the protagonist narrates at the very beginning of the movie, and what follows is almost proof to it.Checkmate tells a story of three young men from different backgrounds, duped by a fake financial company. They lose whatever money they had, money their family had earned ,the property they had, in short the only option they have is to recover their money in any damn possible way.So all three come together and plan , plan to recover their losses. The rest of the movie shows the execution of the plan and how each …

Chaos theory…butterfly effect…..existence of God…….an unstable biochemical substance which may destroy the world….Tsunami…..Now these words blabbered by the voice-over and that too in an Indian Movie can make anyone excited …..but wait there is more…we have a George Kamal Bush who does a rajni to get up from his seat……we have a Japanese girl who speaks Tamil….we have a Punjabi Kamal Bhangra singer who apparently does a bhangra in Tamil……..There is a extended looooong chase which starts with 15 mins in the movie and finishes just mins before the movie ends……and ya there is Mallika Sherawat……

The story begins in an era where Vishnu clan and Shiva clan or you can say cults are trying hard to vote down each other…..The leader king of Shiva Clan wants to move the Ranganatha idol ..errr not move..to throw it into the sea……He is opposed and fought by none other then Kamal who is …

Endings ….that stayed with me

The most important part of a movie is its end…its climax…..even a dragging dud movie but with a superb climax can make it worth a watch ……..then there are movies which are exactly opposite to this….how many times have we come out of the theater thinking about how good the opportunity was, but was all ruined in the end ……most of the bollywood movies these days belong to this category…….If I have to recall the best endings from Indian cinema in recent times, then dombivli fast stands tall…….who couldn’t feel for Madhav Apte ? …he is just been shot …injured…and now all he wants is the window seat in the local train …for never did he got a chance to sit by the window, all these days…. all his life…….The climax totally sums up to what a common man wants these days……just a peaceful life and nothing more then that…….and …

Revisiting “The Matrix”

May 02 2008 | 9 Comments »

This is one of the few films which has an amazing repeat value. Everyone who has seen matrix will agree with me that it has much more to offer than just sci-fi aspect. Every watch of matrix makes your mind think and ponder and to chew on. It's a common argument that there was no need for second (reloaded) and third part (revolutions) of matrix. But I wonder, with only one part, how we could understand matrix in totality, its existence, its purpose not that now I understand it completely but still lot of question were answered in subsequent parts and some question were raised.

According to me the most important scene in matrix series is the one where Neo reaches the source in reloaded, the one between Neo and the architect. This scene explains many things like who is Neo, what is his purpose, what's the actual role of …

Race …Raja Sen and more

Mar 27 2008 | 54 Comments »

It’s the first big hit of 2008 and the trend continues …heyy babyy ….welcome and now Race …..it’s one of the most amateur effort seen in recent times ……One can tolerate Heyy baby or a welcome ….. they don’t claim to be serious whereas on the other hand we have Race, which is heavily promoted as a thriller and what it turns out to be is laughable ….the twists are so childish and senseless that you feel like banging your head against your laptop…you don’t trust a single character and I would not have been surprised if in the end they would have revealed that Saif is actually Katrina and Akshaye is actually Bipasha and they are gay and they get married…doesn’t make any sense….ditto for the twists in the movie …. …..the performances are either over the top or way below the par …

I have always been a huge fan of horror flicks. I still remember as child I used to watch the zee horror show. The first few episodes were quite good, infact I remember a episode called “saaya” in which the ghost of rapist named vikranta was shown……i was so scared that vikranta haunted me for almost a week then. Later on, that show became more of a comedy show with zombies walking (but still will chase down anyone running),amavasya where actually moon was shown, dog barking rather crying in a very familiar voice…….In my growing up days I got my hands on everything which seemed remotely horror. The Ramsay brothers churned out many number of zee-horror kind of movies. be it purana mandir, purani haveli, darwaza, veerana, sannata, dahshat and many more…..i never liked these movies because they were not able to scare me barring a …

Aamir in Rajkumar Hirani’s Next ….

Feb 19 2008 | 18 Comments »

Aamir ended all the speculation and confirmed in his blog, that he will be working in Rajkumar Hirani’s Next….This is what he says…

“yes I am doing Raju Hirani’s film being produced by Vinod Chopra tentatively titled ‘IDIOTS’”

The movie is supposed to be based on Chetan Bhagat’s book called “Five point someone

The synopsis of the book goes something like this

Five Point Someone is a story about three friends in IIT who are unable to cope.

The book starts with a disclaimer, “This is not a book to teach you how to get into IIT or even how to live in college. In fact, it describes how screwed up things can get if you don’t think straight.”

Three hostelmates - Alok, Hari and Ryan get off to a bad start in IIT - they screw up the first class quiz. And while they try to make amends, things only get worse. …

Jodha Akbar - Loads of passion but Where is the content ???

Note:

A) Contains Spoilers.

B)These are my random thoughts after watching the movie .

C)There are many good points about the movie, but i am not going to stress more about those things since many others have already written about it.

D) I totally agree that it takes lots of courage and passion for making a epic movie and Ashutosh Gowariker should take a bow for attempting such kind of a movie in India.

 End of Note.

It is clearly evident from the promos and from the fact that this movie was made from the maker of Lagaan and Swades ,that it was made with lots of passion and love for cinema. When the opening credits rolled on the screen, i got goosebumps ,sheer out of the expectations and the hype created around the movie, which was further added with magnificent voice of big B narrating the proceedings. The initial war sequence was very craftily  picturised and the cinematography was top notch. The aerial view of the …

DDLJ Come fall in love… again…..

Feb 15 2008 | 23 Comments »

I have not met a single soul as yet who has not liked this movie. It’s unarguably the cutest, most adorable, simplistic, charming, delightful love story coming out of Indian Cinema.Adi chopra hit the right cord with people across all the classes and generations. He rejuvenated the magic of Indian commercial cinema.Still today after watching DDLJ,i have hope that one day Adi chopra will find that lost magic for Yashraj films and make another classic. It’s hard to imagine he is the same guy who messed up Dead poet’s society by making Mohhabatein and is the producer of all the nonsensical movies coming out of yashraj films.

DDLJ is a class apart.Period.

Raj may not be the guy next door but you can relate to him in every sense. SRK plays this character with flamboyance and not once in this movie does he …

Serial Killings …Scene in India

Feb 13 2008 | 51 Comments »

Serial killings …it’s one of the most over used plot by Hollywood over the years and even successfully. IMO one of the best movie on a serial killer is seven starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman …directed by David Fincher. What marks the movie above the rest, is its jaw dropping climax……Kevin spacey does a splendid job in a cameo role.
The most recent movie based on serial killings will be zodiac.Zodiac …Perhaps not among the best work of David Fincher but still ahead of many other movies from this genre. Zodiac is based on Robert Graysmith’s book which in return is based on true events that occurred in San Francisco in late 60’s and 70’s.The story goes like, there was a serial killer who called himself zodiac and admitted all his killings by writing letters to the press and challenging them by giving away his identity in ciphers.gosh..can you actually imagine …
