Krishna DK
Krishna DK loves to talk about films. If you don't believe it, ask anyone who knows him and they'll go on about how boring he can get - if you're not into talking about films, that is. He also happens to be a filmmaker and has made a couple of films... In a parallel life he'd have been a film critic, but in this life he chose to be a filmmaker. And since these two jobs are the opposite ends of the spectrum, and shall never meet or co-exist in harmony, he had to choose one over the other. Given that filmmaking pays better (hopefully, in the long run, or so they say), the choice was obvious. A more formal filmography follows: Krishna DK and Raj Nidimoru write and direct together. Their first feature film was FLAVORS, an Indo-American film, which won awards in many international film festivals and released worldwide in 2004 (www.flavorsthemovie.com). They also wrote, directed and produced a short film called SHOR in 2008, which featured in many international film festivals and won awards, including Best Film award at IAAC, New York (www.d2rfilms.com). They're planning to make a feature film off of this short. They recently made their debut Hindi feature film, 99, starring Kunal Khemu, Boman Irani, Soha Ali Khan, Cyrus Broacha, Mahesh Manjrekar and Vinod Khanna in a rare appearance. If you haven't seen the film yet, go get a DVD.

  • Nothing inglourious about these basterds: a non-review
And you thought Tarantino made ‘talky’ movies! You ain’t seen nothin’ yet. Wait till you watch this one, you’ll redefine your definition of ‘talky’. Tarantino’s talkiest movie by far, this is also his boldest. We all said we like this aspect of his films and he listened. And he took it to the extreme! While you can see the...

  • The journey from 99 to 100…
…is a damn long one! Felt really good reading all the comments on the earlier article. Want to share more of my thoughts with all of you. So here goes… It’s been a numbers game all the way! First the title 99. Now someone tells me it sounds like an English title! Well in my mind I also thought of it as Ninyanve, Thombai Thommidi (Telugu), Thonnuthi Ombadu...

  • The journey from FLAVORS to 99…
…has been a damn long one! About 4 years ago, Raj and I directed FLAVORS. Anupam was our friend by then and he agreed to produce the film along with us. It is an independent film in every aspect of the word. It was low-budget (which felt ridiculously high given that we were putting in all our savings), we did most of the tasks during production, we used all free...

  • Why 99?
Why 99? From time to time people – media, filmmakers, friends – have all asked me this question about the title of my latest film. There are many reasons why this film is called 99. First and most obvious one being that the film is set in 1999. The other reason (being filmmakers, we like to go beyond the obvious and have abstract explanations, don’t we?)...

  • 2009 – so far so good
I was recently having a conversation with a friend who is a reviewer and he was in the midst of picking his best films of 2008. That’s when I started thinking about it. I suppose the norm is to pick 10 best films. I fell way short of this number. Well, now I’m being a little unfair – there are a couple of films I did like. Aamir and Oye Lucky stand out...
