Some two decades ago, a ten-year-old kid realised that cinema is not magic, it’s art, craft, technic and much more. He decided to become a filmmaker. That kid was me. I took a detour when I did my architecture between 1992-97. After working as an architect/ interior designer for two years, I joined Film and Television Institute of India, Pune to do a three-year-diploma in Direction. Now I am in Mumbai running my own production house called CHHAVI CREATIONS and making corporate AVs, Ad Films and Short Films. Working on my feature film script.

  • My Name is XYZ
Reviews had already started pouring in and the comments were not at all positive. But the idea of watching a film in a recliner chair for seventy bucks, ten in the morning, is that however bad the film might turn out, you’ll still like it. So, there I was ready to watch E-Niwas’s My Name is Anthony Gonsalves. The film was predictable and full of clichés right from...

  • Objection sustained
Aaja Nachle – the song started creating controversy after the film was released. Though the songs were out in the market around 2 months before the release. If the sections had raised objection then, the producers would have dubbed the line by the time of release. And as far as I remember, mochi and sunaar used to be professions, when did they become castes? Oh right,...

  • Jab We Met
I’ve watched Socha Na Tha 10 times. I’ve loved that film and therefore I was expecting a lot from Jab We Met. When Anurag told me that this is the best romantic film he has ever seen, my expectations were further heightened. Thankfully, I wasn’t disappointed at all. The film not only shows Imtiaz Ali’s growth as a storyteller, it also presents Shahid and Kareena...

  • Rajnigandha – a simple tale
At a roadside stall selling old books near Santa Cruz Station, I spotted a pocket-book titled Rajnigandha. I picked it up and it turned out to the screenplay of my favourite film Rajnigandha. Yes, the same film that won the Best Picture at the Filmfare Awards in the year 1974, both the Popular Award and the Critics Award. Many of you will be surprised to know that in...

  • Rimjhim and the rains
I have never tried to ridicule the presence of song and dance sequences in hindi films. In fact, I feel they can be used beautifully to carry a story forward or to explain the emotions that our character is experiencing. Rains have always played an important part in the song and dance routines. Rains can become a ridiculous reason for crude display of female form...

  • Age, years, timespan
I wonder if it is that difficult to put some thought on the way that the characters will age when you show a timespan in a film. In Hum, it is referred again and again that “fifteen years have passed” and then you show that in those fifteen years,a toddler has become as old as Rajnikanth and not only that, he is now married and has a 8-9 year old daughter. I...
