  2. This would be a fucking beast on 3D. Although, I hope the movie avoids the typical sci-fi cliches!

“On Friday, Twentieth Century Fox is screening—free of charge—excerpts from Mr. Cameron’s coming sci-fi thriller “Avatar” for a national audience four months ahead of the movie’s release. More than 120 IMAX screens in the U.S. and abroad will show 16 minutes of footage from the 3-D film—an unprecedented event in Hollywood, where the studios rarely do early screenings of films for a mass audience.”

          @ Ashwini.
no, its only in the US, in 120 IMAX screens. Tiw up with IMAX and FOX is working overtime to put word of publicity out and also, IMAX has supposedly signed a deal to run this movie for 3 months from the date of release Dec 18th.This movie is publicised heavily to be watched on IMAX 3D , as opposed to regular mutiplex screens. I guess, after dark knight made a killing on IMAX screenings, they want to take the next step in generating more revenue, since the IMAX tix are atleast 5-6 dollars more than regular screens.

  7. fuck! even the 20th Century Fox starting theme visual looked richer! I just cannot recall any other director holding himself back from appearing on screen for 12 years and that too with 7 of his into the pre-pod and prod for this movie. If this is not passion, what is?!

One interesting thing about Avatar is that it has an Indian (2nd gen American-Indian, that is) actor Deepak Rao. Met Rao at Cannes, and he told me his role is quite substantial. Seems the film will be worth waiting for.

Rao was at Cannes for the screening of Sam Raimi’s horror flick Drag Me To Hell (he is in that film too), which was part of Midnight Screenings section…

watching the trailor on apple site in quick time format is different experience. in any case as much as the later half of the trailor looks awesome , most of the outdoor scene look so heavily rendered like ingame movies these days which put me off and made it seem like unreal. or maybe that was intentional. watch it here http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/avatar/hd/

    • Yes, the Rajesh Khanna flick was one of James Cameron’s favorite movies. In fact the hero’s character is a reference to Rajesh Khanna’s character in Avatar, in the Hindi original one of Khanna’s hands is paralyzed, and here the hero is paralyzed from waist down. Also there is an Indian character, Dr.Dileep Rao, this was Cameron’s tribute to India.

        • JC spent lots of time to get the technology which can copy the emotions of human beings to humanoids. But with Rajesh Khanna like character, he shouldnt really worry about it.

  18. Didn’t do much for me. I’m just biased against sci fi though, so count me out. Saw this along with the previews before Inglourious Basterds, till the name Avatar came along I felt, “kya bakwaas sci fi hai”. They could have at least worked on a better typeface for Avatar. Surely want to watch it though.

Saw it yesterday, at Fame Inorbit. As Sethumadhavan said, was blown away.
guys watching this trailer on TV or PC Monitor doesn’t do it any justice. you have to see it on the big screen to believe it.
it was an amalgamation of 6 scenes from the first half of the movie and the trailer to end the sneak peek.
i was watching with my mouth agape and i cant wait for it to release. this is one of those movies that has to be experienced only on the big screen.
