Just back from the premiere of the movie. What can I say- visually its so stunning, you just cant help being spellbound. For all those who want to know if there’s a story and whether its just the VFX work which rules, fear not for there’s certainly something in store for all the viewers. But of course quite often the visuals take supremacy over the story. In terms of performances Sam Worthington is very good & after Terminal Salvation and now Avatar,he is now all set to hit big league ( I’m now waiting for his next- Clash Of The Titans ).
“I See You ” is what is buzzing in my ears now.Its a 4.5 star rating for me.Watch it in 3D if you can to enjoy the movie in the best possible way.

      • Oops my bad, sorry for the typo.it should be Terminator Salvation & not Terminal Salvation :)

Jahan- Ellen Riplay? oh! you mean Sigourney Weaver, well she’s quite good too as Dr.Grace.

a big kudos to James Cameron for making this movie.

Yup. James Cameron…. hmm, I go to theatre and see the posters of this movie written ‘From the director of Titanic’. It disturbs me because I dont see Cameron as a romance and drama director. he is an Action-Sci/fi director. His other films are much better than Titanic but yea Titanic is the most popular.

Havent seen his Pirhanna 2 but I feel that Titanic was his weakest since he hit big with Terminator. I may be little biased because I’m more of a sci/fi-action fan and feel that Titanic was tending towards chick-flick.
I personally like his former wife Kathryn Bigelow’s movies as well. Point Break is one of my favourite action flick from the 90s.

So many wondrous things. But in this age of hyper cut action (a la Transformers 2), JC shows how to do action where you can actually SEE what’s going on.

I am not alleging James Cameroon of plagirization. But, The story is indeed stale and if not for the effects, the movie would hsvr fallen flat. No inspiring performances, mundane dialogues, was more of a documentary.

Remember the scene where the lady scientist was shot and the Na’avi-s were praying for her life ? The movie was feeling so ridiculous that at that point, I was almost expecting an old Bollywood-like scene where someone is dying and they pray before a Hindu deity (usually krishna) and the dying person gets back his life.

And when Neytiri said: “There have been only 5 or 6 people who have been able to tame the Toruk”, I told my friend, “There you go— that’s gonna be the final clinching point of the story when our hero tames the Toruk.” And of course, he did that. And then when Jakesully lands among the Na’avi-s with his new pet, of all the lamest words that James Cameron could come up with at that time, he chose “Toruk Makto”.

You know what, bro, we are among the minority who cannot dissociate a movie’s content from its expression. With such ridiculous, lame, childish plot, I don’t think even a 4D experience would have helped.

Have I seen a better movie than Avatar? Well, yes. Have I had a better movie watching experience? No, never. And its not just about the spectable and millions of dollars well spent. Its about raising the bar and changing the way we look at movies.

Cameron has been to a great extent responsible for the way we watch cinema in India. Titanic was the reason for many theatres across the country to get dolby digital installed. Places like patna and ranchi got its first dolby digital theatre only when titanic got its theatrical release. Now Avatar is responsible for 3D revolution across theatres in India. Bravo Cameron!

The story is a cliche, they ve mixed matrix, lord of the rings(the talk about the real world and all the clans coming together and i thot even the animals looked the same as in Lord of the Rings) The film gave me a sense of dejavou, many aspects were familiar yet i cant pick a single scene which is lifted. The horses looked similar to the bikes in A.I.(have anyone noticed that??:))The affair between jake and that girl looked forced, though i guessed that it was coming. And they have also brought about an environmental dimension to it,which is a hot topic now. This is one movie which i would call as fully commercial ,theres something in it for everyone even a bit of melo-drama :) for the fans of bollywood pot boilers, but i must admit that there was a message about living in harmony with nature and about mans arrogance, though the message looked like a cliche to me.Still the movie is directed very well, the action is superb, the dialogues and the one liners are wacky.

Good watch… amazing, painstakingly created animation and visuals … no new content… like Titanic, James Cameron, with the mammoth budget, understandably takes the regular, non imaginative, safe-bet route in the thematic, story, characterization and even the lines…

It does awe you, but without troubling the grey matter… No need to waste your energy to find non-existent relationships with Hindu Mythology, symbology and what not… even the allegorical US Vs Iraq invasion is at the most superficial level….

However, too much of graphics is not my cup of tea, especially when applied to represent human emotions.. Its like wearing condoms.. however thin may the material be…the real act is something else altogether…

Gollum was fine.. but not hours together of their blue versions…

3.5 stars purely for creating a parallel universe… .5 for the few emotions it stuck in … all in al predictable movie in terms of plots… anybody interested in animations, camera work … absolute must watch for them … anybody about having a screenplay and build up of story …. not exactly there, but still watch it…

Beauty about Cameroon, he still makes the simple stories in core but the conviction he still has… wow… with terminator he achieved a father/elder brother relationship for a machine that you start feeling for… Titanic had the regular poor boy rich girl love story but you felt for it, now he’s done it again… never have felt that an alien creature would look so beautiful… damn, I felt I should have that NaVi for a girlfriend! ho hum … anyways, the getting into love making mode by NaVis brought out a lot of innocence, maybe due to the over exposure of such scenes with regular people, but the girl… wow… her cries, her look everything was amazingly touching….

As it has already been pointed out, lots of mixes from eragin, universal soldier, apocalypto and theories of the US version of attacking countries for oil, the “I warned you, you dint understand my language, your problem”, strike first and call the retaliation as an act of terrorism, everything is right there and predictable…

More importantly, this one is a massive lesson for movie makers.. of how to make simple run of the mill stories yet give the treatment that makes it path breaking…. this can aaram se be a beginners guide to make your movie so much better….

Overall, Sam Worthington is dead lucky to get a plum role in such a movie…kickass camera work and creation of parallel world, once again makes you feel for the ‘aliens’… must watch at least once!!!

Avatar was unbelievable but there is a series of books called “MEG” which would make one hell of a movie. It could be a giant blockbuster if done correctly. Curious if anyone’s has checked out the new book “HELLS AQUARIUM” by STEVE ALTEN? I know he’s been a best selling author before, but wanted to see if anyone had read this book first? It’s about the ancient prehistoric shark Megalodon, which makes the current Great White Shark look like a gold fish. Check out the trailer below, pretty awesome:

i think we all agree that the graphics were outstanding, but i thought the story was amazing too. it was a fresh, riveting take on the classic pocahontas love story, complete with breath-taking action and an awesome comeback by jakesully. keeps you interested for the entire 2 hours and 40 minutes.
    Cinematic Perfection.

sci-fi porn it is. boring-as-hell storyline. if there is anything that cameron can hold on to while reasoning the money and time spent, it is the visuals at *some* places (he sure watched a lot of disney animations as a kid). the usb connection is… lol :notsure: . like i read somewhere, cameron made it for the 14 yr old kid in him. wannabe with a capital W, basking in the green-is-in glory.

I felt Aliens was much more better in terms of story telling, Avtaar seems to be inspired by Aliens. On other hand, we should credit Cameron for Making Sci-Fi genre so popular.

It is sad to see a “glorified” 3D movie have a higher rating than Rocket Singh, Aayirithil Oruvan, Paa, Wake Up Sid, Inglourious Basterds..and what not :notsure:

I am more dazzled by a story which challenges me than a very stunning environment created to tell an average movie. Yeah, Avatar was an average. The movie definitely has the best special effects I’ve seen but only if it had an interesting story… I left the theater with a big disappointing IF.

The story is the same as the Malayalam Mohanlal flick ‘Vietnam Colony’ of the early 90′s. But the concept and technicalities are a different level.
Humanity depleted of resources and attempting to exploit a different planet, renders strong support to environmental conservation.
The visual effects with 3D is very good.
