Belated Monday Monologues: Guess the movie!
A bit of a delayed continuation of the first set of Monday Monologues, but essentially I tape myself doing monologues from time to time just for fun. Especially when I watch a monologue that really strikes my fancy, I just can’t resist the urge to replay the scene over and over until I transcribe the whole thing so I can just practice and try my hand at delivering the monologue. I usually take a lengthy break between when I first watch the original scene and when I perform the monologue — this is basically to erase the scene from my memory, so my version of the monologue doesn’t try to imitate the original, and I start with a clean slate.
Notes for you, the viewer:
1. As with anyone creative, feedback is what keeps us going. So feel free to trash me, as long as you can give me a reason :) [not just “this part sucked”.. instead “this part sucked because…”]
2. My intention is in no way to ape, imitate, disrespect or demean the performances of the actors in the original scene by any means, because I admit none of these monologues will be even an ounce of the real stuff.
3. None of us has seen every single movie in the world. My hope is that some of these monologues may inspire you to watch the movie if you haven’t seen it already, or to go back and revisit the movie if you have.
4. If you have requests, please pass them along in the comments section!
5. Enjoy!!!
And it’s now upto you, to guess the movie this monologue is from.

Note to Megh Pant: Megh, looked back at one of your comments in my earlier monologue, and saw that you had suggested one. I’m going to perform this next. Thanks for that suggestion!

Shabash - Mere desi VVaughn…
Good Job Karthik! =d>
He is the best, Vince, in Wedding Crashers - and
then - awesome monologues in THE BREAK UP!
———
Could someone PLEASE
do a writeup on
Great job, the diction is clear, the voice is projected just right according to the demand of the scene.
Only suggestion, if I may - Loosen up a little. When you look into the camera, treat it as a person. Maybe have someone stand behind it and talk to them. Despite the fact that you are in a constrained environment and are seated, explore the space you have.
manan, nice job.. have yet to watch the break up. will put it on my q.. i love vince vaughn!
vijay, spot on with your suggestion.. did this at 2am last night/this morning, and was actually worried if i seemed loosened up enough.. guess it didn’t come thru all the way. nice catch! it’s definitely a lot easier when i’m actually talking to someone instead of the camera.. it’s the one reason i would probably suck as a VJ or a host of a tv show who has to read off a teleprompter.. working with characters for me comes way more naturally than working with just a camera.
Great Job, Striker Bhai! :)
You raise the standards of PFC by showcasing your talent. Like discussed before, it takes guts to do that, strip yourself open.
Talking about the act, it is involving, you convey the cold and indifferent emotion well, havent seen the original though it reminds me of the QT genre of monologuing. Some more work is needed in the way you look at the camera, the eyes need to talk more, wasn’t much noticed in this one as you took the attention through your lines. :)
:) good job mate….
but as vijay said, a bit too stiff…
couldnt help but think of Hritik doin his whole aussie accent bit in KNPH. (no offence meant
:))
Dude..watching with the sound on is quite different…
I like some of your uniques things you do…like what you do with your eyes….
I like how your dialogues flow naturally…do not look practiced…
But, The body moment is a bit stiff…you i think move your hands a lot…for some reason also feel that your hand moments kinda obstruct a bit..in the sense…your hands are way above where they ought to be..like in the face…too close to the camera and all
Other than i second what Vijay has said…use the space to your advantage
Love your dedication dude…do this as often as possible
OM.. some things like body movement, facial expressions, hand gestures, just came naturally to me with the kind of monologue it was.. the whole essence of it is for him to be rambling on and on and on without talking too fast to the point of swallowing his words.. in the original, i felt vince vaughn spoke way too fast.. i almost didn’t understand him.. the camera, yes, i did keep close to myself for lighting purposes.. and also since i was doing the framing myself, i needed to be able to press record from where i’m sitting, so i wanted to be able to check what the frame’s like.. i can guarantee you if i’d been sitting around and not moving my hands around with this kind of a speech, i would’ve looked even more stiff.. maybe then you would’ve said “you’re not moving around enough” ;) hehe.. anyway, here’s the original scene in case anyone wants to watch..

just wanna mention one of the things i seriously love about acting is the fact that there is no ONE way to do things.. it’s just whatever comes naturally and feels “real” to the actor and convincing to the director (in both cases of theater and film)
Woo woo! And, it isn’t even Monday!
Vince Vaughn is great when he goes off. And, I think it was great that you didn’t follow suit, but made this your own.
Dang, need to see Swingers again…
Overall, this was good, but I agree with many of the comments about the hands, especially when they obscured your face.
And, can’t wait to see the next one!
