BLACK FRIDAY SCREENING

Saurabh Dixit, PFC’s ardent fan got a chance last night to watch the special screening of Black Friday in LA. Got an excited mail from him about his experience, Saurabh says:

Black Friday Screening

7:20 in the evening I am still at my desk. The plan was to leave at 7 and go the fallbrook theater to catch the screening of Black Friday. Me thinking “First we are going to buy the tickets and then we will go to Chili’s and have coupld of drinks and finally the movie”. I wanted to watch the movie when I am drunk cause I notice a lot of things when I am a little high…no matter what kindaa high I have.

The place is 10mins from my office, still I am worried about the availablity of tickets.
I leave office at 7:30, my roommate is joining me and he is also as excited as I am.
7:45 I am at the theater, it was overcast the whole day so its cold and also breezing. We parked our car and we start walking towards the theater, I reach the section where you see the posters of the movies playing in the theater and the ones which are coming soon. I was shocked..there was no sign of Black Friday. My friend looked at me and he asks “are you sure they are playing it tonight”? I was like..”hell yeah”. But for a moment I thought, something is just not right. I went and asked at the ticket window…”we are here for the movie BF” She replied “I know they gonna play some movie starting with Black..and the tickets will be sold inside by the promoter”. “Thank you” I said and I explained everything to my friend.
7:50- My roomie lights up a smoke and we decide to share it, only two of us standing outside a 7 screen theater. I gave up, decided to go in and ask for the tickets, cause I didnt want to miss the movie and also wanted to drink. I could see the chili’s right in front of me, 100 yards maybe.

I went into the theater and enquired about BF, they told me the samethings. Also, I came to know that the promoter could be here any Minute. I decided to go back and have another smoke. As I am taking the first drag, I see a guy walking towards the theater gates with something in his hand which looked like a poster. I told my roommate…I think its the poster of BF and the guy carrying is ..I think is oz(I have never met oz and only once I had scene is pic on Orkut). I decide to go in check what has he brought in, and I was damn right abt the thing. It was the BF poster which I had only seen on PFC. But I was also wrong cause the guy was not oz, he was the guy from adlabs(producers of BF). We had a chit-chat I came out. It was cold outside, so we decide to sit in and wait. As of now there are only two of us there to watch the movie and its 8:10 now. No signs of promoters.

Now its 8:30, we are out of smoke and I am trying not to look into the eyes of my roommate. At 8:40, I see one Indian couple in the theater, that doubles the count to Four. Did I mention, the show timing is at 9:00 pm. At 8:50 I am sipping me coke and discussing about PFC with my friend. I then see Ritu Mahindru and few more people behind her…rushing into the theater. There was a sigh of relief. She quickly finished the chat with the theater guys and came directly towards the table which we had occupied. I got up, we shook hands and I introduced myself. She remembered me and my name was on the RSVP list(Thanks to Vivek Kumar). Well, we started counting ppl who were there for the movie… and I think we successfully reached the figure in 20s. There was some problem with the tickets or passes for the movie which were supposed to be sold for $6 each. Ritu told me that its gonna be a complimentary thing from the theater guys as there are some issues with ticktes and there are very few ppl. Fair enough, I just wanted to watch the movie, said thanks to Ritu and we proceeded towards screen 4.

Movie starts exactly at 9 and I am waiting for the first scene to start, cause thats my Fav scene in the movie. There were few gals sitting in the row behind me, they kept disturbing me which their cellphone ringing and whispers. When KK appeared on the screen, there a round of applause for him from the row behind me. There were few scenes missing from movie (I had seen those on a pirated DVD, sorry Anurag), I think could name that chapter as “the story of RDX” or “getting rid of RDX”.

The movie got over, I saw the credits “screenplay and direction” and the NAME was right there. The man who was behind the great effort and such a fine product. While coming out of the theater I went to Ritu and said thanks, also asked her abt movie, she said “Good, it was good”. I somehow feel that wasnt the honest opinion of her’s, she is a critic and she might take time to analyze things. My roommate gave his opinion and said “it was more like a Documentary”. I have heard about some great movies which are films and also they look like Documentary. I was busy thinking all night, whats the genre for BF?

So, I am going to watch it again on Friday and hope to see some PFC ppl there. One more thing, I have watched BF for three times now and I never paid a penny to watch it, this Friday I am gonna do it.

Here’s Ritu wearing the “critic cap” in response to the above, :d
…haha..nice you posted my ‘dirt’ to you, vivek! - I’d like to personally add, I agree with Nistha..long, drawn out scenes, but great watch! Given the movie was made what..nearly 5 years ago..it doesn’t look dated at all! The technical quality is awesome - be it cinematography or lighting. Wasim Khan the art director captures the moments with brilliance. Ok - now I’m rambling and putting my critic hat on..so I’ll stop. But go see it!!!
I have a new appreciation for the police force. It’s SOOO difficult to operate in India and for them to have arrested ANYONE is an accomplishment. However..the movie makes it seem like they solved the case quickly..but the fact it took 13 YEARS to reach a verdict…makes you wonder about the judicial system.. sigh… bureaucracy - gotta love it! - signed, “the horse” hehehe hhahaaha
