Just discovered Kieslowski’s Blind Chance… do catch it.

Apart from being his first film selected at cannes in 1980, it is a wonderful precursor to films such as sliding doors and run lola run… a pity these film makers never acknowledged this gem of a predecessor.

thanks manish t for the dvd… the special features were particularly enlightening.

(esp how apart from putting up with the polish censors, this time KK had to contend with the French ones as well!… interesting lesson for us as film makers as well… how much to agree to without compromising or is the fact that the film’s getting an audience and reaching out more imp than didactic, ethical, egoistical? considerations… )

Also, in a strange way, was reminded of a brilliant polish film called “Scratch” ( Rysa)that one saw at the MAMI festival in Nov at Fun… another must see for the PFC gang!

lovenlight!

  2. Welcome back Sourabh!! Nice reco.. Please let us know more of these kind of films. Kieslowski is one my fav filmmakers. Its quite interesting since you say these could be a possible predecessor to Run Lola Run and Sliding Doors. Must check out. Also do you mean screened at Cannes? Because this film was not nominated in any category at Cannes. Intrigued to know what is it about.

@neeraj, it was shown in the Un Certain Regard section at the time, as the festival director giles jacob refused to keep it in the competion section… he even suggested (and got away) with his own censorship snips!
