Bollywood Films Are Educational!
Today’s Kids will not have to go to library/School and study text-books. Because Bollywood is the new text book and Cinema-Ghar is the new library/School [ Link].
NCERT has introduced Bollywood movies, as reference material in textbooks.Centre for Studies and Development Societies, Yogendra Yadav says, “These students who are eighteen and nineteen are about to become voters. And we thought Indian cinema – which is one of the most powerful commentaries on Indian society, a deeply political commentary on Indian society – is possibly one of the best vehicles.”
Bollywood Songs/Dance have always been educational…..

This is not good,
I don’t support this;
Appreciating Cinema is different altogether .
When i was a kid, my mom and dad, used to warn me not to watch too many movies, as that wud screw up my studies. How the times change, sigh.
we dont know as of yet in what reference are these movies used. they might be used to give a better idea about a subject. there are just 8 movies included, and they are good ones IMO. it might be a good move (visualization always helps and is so much better than reading something which you cannot understand), lets wait and watch.
I don’t think NCERT is doing the right thing. NSD would be a right option
**sigh** now I feel really old! Kya zamaana aa gaya hai, I have totally given up. We were not even allowed to watch films at our leisure (there used to be restrictions and boy, am I glad about those rules and restrictions). We were instead were made to watch educational programs or programs with some morality and taste (which of course is very relative, what is moral to me might not be to others…)
At some level I feel glad that my kids won’t be growing up in India. As it is, the entire Indian TV is about Bollywood dancing, singing and culture and now this. Oh well, maybe I am getting too old and am unable to accept this change.
