BOMMARILLU and its Side Effects

Whenever i watch a movie with my friends in a DVD player, laptop or in a PC something intresting comes for us to discuss as we have the liberty to pause while watching the movie, the discussions which we have range from casual conversations to high degree altercations.Sometimes i wonder, how many interjections and perceptions can be drawn from a single movie.

Yesterday i was watching a Telugu film BOMMARILLU with some of my friends and one of them was a Bengali who hardly speaks telugu, after watching he said that to me “the best film i have seen in the recent past”.BOMMARILLU without any doubt breaks the boundary of language .In this article i am not writing a review of BOMMARILLU instead i am trying to point some unfortunate side effects of the film.Curiosity in me asked to search articles on BOMMARILLU in PFC and surprisingly i did not find any article and my thought of writing an article on BOMMARILLU started to take a shape.BOMMARILLU lovers may hate this article,if you guys feel that you might be offended then DO NOT PROCEED.
Every telugu guy and girl LOVE BOMMARILLU and its very much possible that most of the parents HATE BOMMARILLU for obvious reasons. The heart and core of BOMMARILLU is the relationship between a father and his son played Prakash Raj (Aravind) and Siddharth Narayan (Siddu) respectively,Genelia D’Souza (Hasini) plays the love interest of Siddu.
The character ‘Siddu’ looks slightly complicated when we observe it meticulously but trying to understand the directors point of view is very important,Siddu is provided with all the resources but at the cost of his fathers taste. As we see in the film that every decision, even the decision of his marriage is taken by his father.and as Siddu does not have the freedom of expression he is obviously not happy happy with his father but he does not hate his father because Siddu is aware of the fact that even though he is not allowed to chose anything in his life but his father is trying to give him the best without considering his son’s opinions.Apart from the fear which he has towards his father,Siddu has the audacity in him to tell his father about his girl friend and eventually makes her stay in his house for one week and Siddu is concious that he is engaged to another girl.Siddu could have eloped with Hasini but he didn’t because he has some amount of confidence somewhere in his heart and some RESPECT towards his father.

The character ‘Hasini’ which is loved and adored by almost everyone who have seen BOMMARILLU and it is not as simple as it seems to be. Hasini is a Happy-go-Lucky girl and likes to mingle with everyone. The greatest ingredient which Hasini possess is Innocence which has been wonderfully played by Genelia D’Souza. When Hasini comes to know that Siddu is engaged to another women she does not accept him directly but instead she has her own doubts in her mind about Siddu and when she is aware of the fact that Siddu is not accepting her as she used to be in the later part of the film she very explicitly and painfully rejects Siddu , Hasini is not only innocent but an Intelligent girl too and takes the right decisions at the right time.Innocence does not strictly mean that its the hybrid of childish and cool nature.Hasini is not a DUMB girl in BOMMARILLU ,but a girl who likes to her herself who does not want to be a artificial girl.
Both ‘Hasini’ and ‘Siddu’ respect their fathers and are very aware and concious of the situations.
UNFORTUNATE SIDE EFFECTS of BOMMARILLU :
Side Effects on BOYS:
Side Effects on GIRLS:

Even after almost 1000 days of its release, the film BOMMARILLU makes me feel that it is released yesterday .Many say that script is the real hero for a successful film,in BOMMARILLU apart from the wonderful script we feel the freshness in the narration and direction. The honesty in the film is also an important aspect as it touches all the emotional structures of a family and an individual without any compromise formula. After BOMMARILLU got released in telugu it was made in Tamil,Bengali and Oriya due to my convictions i did not watch any of the other versions and i am now eagerly waiting to watch it as ‘It’s My Life’ starring ‘Harman Baweja’ and ‘Genelia D’Souza’.

Bommiralla was worse than chinese torture .I sincerely doubt ,that this crap has ben remade in oriya or bengali.I f yes please provide me with names and release date.It has been made in tamil, yes it is being remade into hindi, with Hurman Baweja and of course the producer is Sanjay Kapoor and director is Anees Bazmee.I hope all of you get the picture what to except from the movie.
The writer even has audacityto describe side effects , i ha done terrible headache for a week.
I love Genelia & my ring tone is ‘Antena’!!!
One of my Telugu frnds called BOMMARILLU the DDLJ of Andhra sinima
Bro, it’s HUrman not HArman. Poor guy is jinxed i guess, bechari genelia ko bhi le doobega!
the side effects that u hv quoted happen after each succesful teen-flick. DDLJ, KKHH, Jaane Tu… In Indore, roughly 98% of youth were spotted wearing COOL lockets, faux Tommy Hilfiger tees et al. What to tell you…
Telugu film industry is in drought and the worst scripts of these kind are getting into limelight by youngsters. I want to appreciate the Bengali whom author is talking about, does he really belong to land of Satyajit?
Once this industry is full of talent and used to compete with all the other language films. Telugu industry had 60 years of past but not even a single film won a National award, how pathetic the situation. Ego kills innovation is what this industry should learn.
My father is like Prakash Raj. No kiddin. No side effects.
Well I personally like Bommarillu myself & feel that the songs & the performances- Siddharth,Genelia,Prakash Raj,Jayasudha,Kota etc were all quite good. But seriously I dont consider it as an outstanding movie or the DDLJ equivalent of A.P.Yes its a feel good family movie & even its tamil version Santosh Subramaniam worked because it stuck to the original. One of the best things about Bommarillu according to me is the way some of the unusual spots of Hyd & Secunderabad that are captured.I seriously doubt the fate of its Hindi version as it has Harman/Hurman in it.Maybe Genelia has to pull it off on her own
i was really appreciative of bommarillu upon viewing it the first time, n even today, me n my wife settle down for a nice cozy evening with bommarillu. (got the DVD, u see…). personally, the side-effects do not apply to me or my wife, we r already beyond tht age. nor have i known anyone talking abt the side-effects, but then i dont stay in AP/TN.
Hurman in hindi remake is a news as bad as it can get. bengali remake, im not aware of, n i hv stayed in kolkata for 25 years. definitely no DDLJ of Telugu cimena, but very close, as far as likeability factor is concerned.
prakash raj was too good in the film, and siddharth exuded the yuppie-flavour throughout. but it was genelia who was the main star of the movie.
and all this when my cab-driver in hyd insisted i buy this DVD, whn i asked him abt some suggestions for good movies. (imagine i was only looking for Mahesh Babu flicks)
Thanks for the review Krishna and bringing back the memories of Bommarillu …
I do not agree with the side affects u mentioned … this movie was not really sensible or worked for me … yes it is a feel good movie to watch (Plus points were music, SIDDHARTH
and few good movements ) nothing more to it …
i dont think girls would follow the mannerisum of Genilia as in real life it would be like making fool of themselfs … i felt they did showed her character over the top in the first half …
For me Anandh and Godavari did work in recent times …. the portray of women was more strong and a point close to reality…
I first saw the tamil version and last week saw the telugu version. They are the same, but the telugu version was better because sidharth was believable as a recently graduated young man while the guy in the tamil version – to put it gently – looked old. It is just a feel good movie – same frequency as any chick flick in english – with some good songs.
Damn, if even this movie had side effects,I wonder what the side effects of Balaiya “Palnati brahmanaidu” kind of flicks would be.
Multiple hemorrhages in the brain stem?
guys one unfortunate thing is, how low you guys look at south Indian movies. I can bet you some of the best innovations(technically) in Indian film industry have been brought forward by southern industry. I bet you on that. Please do not judge us by the state and industry, we definitely deliver the best(compared to Bollywood, which is high on gloss). Please watch movies by quality not by industry. Telugu Movies although miss on some practicalities, they are definitely best on quality and revenues earned. please reply for any facts and figures.
very nice movie(i’m talking about telgu version),no side efeect as my consideration.this may be personal views of writer only.i’m not agreed with them.
after a long time i ‘ve seen such a quality romance.at least it gives feel of natural love in most of its scenes.
remined it i m a hindi guy & watched it in telgu with english subtitles.
