But something has been gnawing inside me all this time.

I think it all erupted when someone wrote a piece on KANK and the comments that followed were going right down to discuss the filmmaker’s sexuality. Hope this year started well for all of you! Its begun on an interesting note for me, lets see how it culminates.

I’m going to share something I wrote with you today. Something I a wrote a long time ago. It started off as an idea, about two men, one is the man with questions and one is a man with answers and their story ends with a question.

I ended up writing it as a poem, but off late I’m haunted by these two men again and again, I see them trapped in a black desert imprisoned in two cards that have flown off a pack. I did my first ad film for rediff.com.

The product was Rediff Bol the instant messenger.

I wrote about 25 scripts till we locked on the one you will finally see (users in India can see it on television currently).

The idea was to do the whole ad around the character of Raju and weave a limerick around him.

The first one went something like this

Ek tha Raju bada widwaan, Uska classmate tha pehelwan
Raju ki lovelife total flop, uska dost bana roadblock
Us din raju ko gussa aayaa, dimaag mein idea aaya, rediff bol par avatar banaya
Dost usne khub banaye, joke usne khub sunaye, ladkiyon ke dil behelaye

Dear fanatics,
Before we get personal, let me tell you a few things about me.

Even before I decided I wanted to make films, I wanted to be a detective till I was nine years old, from the age of 9-12, I wanted to be a ‘Hero’ that was until the first pimple broke out.

Age 12 onwards my fate was sealed — I wanted to write and direct my own films. Besides writing school, my residential colony and later college plays I used to draw posters of my films (King, Darinda etc) in a specially bought notebook.
