I have a little man-crush on Chandan Arora ever since i watched his Main Meri patni aur woh…and then i did an imdb on this bloke and found out that he was the editor for RGV’s Jungle and Company..two of my all time favs for editing work… i had always maintained and still believe, that if we ever will have a filmmaker who woudl come anywhere close to Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s style of filmmaking that will be him…and have been dying to see his next directorial venture and bhoooom…here comes the announcement…
He stumbled upon a story of struggle and success while researching for a docu-drama in a Malvani ghetto in Malad.
and it is called STRIKER
Chandan says:
“It’s not really a true story, it’s more of an account of real lives that we’ve fictionalised a little. We will be shooting in Malvani and other pockets in the city that are in the right time zone since Striker is set in the mid-’80s,”
So, is this going to be another Dharavi or Salaam Bombay? I personally dont think so. It also is a story revolved around the game of carroms..hence the name Striker, you peeps ;) And the carrom player is played by Siddharth, the multi-talented guy
Chandan explains:
“We were discussing another script and had even recorded a couple of songs when work ground to a halt. I hope to make the film some day. Meanwhile, Siddharth was excited about this script, so we started Striker last month,”
Where as the lead actress would be Padmapriya
Another good news is that, Chandan will be producing the movie himself..
“I think producing my own film gives me the freedom to make the kind of films I believe in. It gives me complete authority to make the film the way I do. So yes, after working with Ram Gopal Varma and UTV for my first two films, I am my own producer for the third film,”
But then why the need to go into economics of filmmaking asks reporter
Chandan:
Then only I can make the film that I want to…when I have complete autonomy. ‘Striker’ isn’t just a film about the game of carrom. Nor is it only about life in the slums. It takes into view the entire sub-culture and slum life in Mumbai from the early 1980s to around 1992.
Now, this has made me pretty excited, two very talented guys coming together to pull off something of this magnitude, hope is still left here…
Siddharth is perfect for the protagonist’s part. He speaks fluent Hindi, understands the slum character’s ability to stay honest in spite of crime and muck around him and is very good at the game of carrom. Others in the slum have half a dozen cases pending against them. The hero’s record remains untarnished,”
I believe, do you too? Am i the only person excited about this? Am i the only person who loves Chandan…raise your hands who feel likewise and those who dont, please speak up ;)

after reading this you got me intrested :D
I didn’t know Chandan Arora was an editor. After watching “Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon” and “Mein Meri Patni Aur Woh” , I was sure that the man knows his art. Not only he has great command over the screenplay of the movie, which for me is the backbone of any movie, his sincerity towards his movie comes across crystal clear. And one more thing I noticed was he goes for actors and not stars. Coming to Siddharat, he was quite impressive in RDB. Need to see how he does this character which is miles away from RDB. So, needless to say i am eagerly awaiting for “Striker”.
Vivek, yeah man..me too…i think Sid is very talented…he needs to pick up carefully…
Rajesh Shetty…I too hadnt noticed about Chandan being the editor of Company and Jungle…one reason being RGV was throwing new talent left right centre, after a point i was loosing interest in who directed what and who was associated with wat movie from RGV camp….
I am pretty sure, this is not gonna be a big budget movie…but keeping finegrs crossed, hopefully it will be good…lets wait for the first look…mebbe we can get a bit more knowledge about it
oh i’m interested alright…
Ok… i stopped reading at I had a little… Man Crush!
Cud you please explain? Any just beacuse he is an editor, why would you have a crush???
haaha…saaala, kameene ravptor..i like the way Chandan conducts himselfs…i have always maintained….this guy is totally under-rated…he is sooo down to earth…makes you want to love movies, even though there is trash thrown around..this guy is all of postive energy…over that..he edited Company and Jungle..two of the best…made Mein Madhuri/…which was ok…but..mein meri patni…dyaaam…read DT for my comments…ohh and by the way..ahem..abhi rehne do…will meet you u in april in LA, then we can talk :)
I loved the movie “Main Meri Patni Aur Woh”, haven’t watched Main Madhuri Dixit…. though. Was wondering where Chandan Arora disappeared. I really didn’t know he’s an editor too with such good work behind him. I hope his new movie will be better than his previous works.
And about Siddharth, have to agree he is one really smart actor in choosing his movies. He will be doing a movie on Manjunath Shanmugam (IIM-L grad), the slain Indian Oil Corp’s employee, who was shot dead by adulterating-petrol mafia in UP. I just hope, they won’t screw it up.
