Surprise of surprises, Mr. Ebert himself writes for apna very own Baaliwood goes Shaanghaai mad Akshay Kumar-Deepika Padukone epic-scale caper, Chandni Chowk to China. So did he like it? Well…
“Chandni Chowk to China” won’t attract many fans of kung fu — or Adam Sandler, for that matter. The title and the ads will cause them to think for a second, an unacceptable delay for fanboys. It will appeal to the large Indian audiences in North America and to Bollywood fans in general, who will come out wondering why this movie, of all movies, was chosen as Hollywood’s first foray into commercial Indian cinema. I don’t know a whole lot about Bollywood, and even I could name some better possibilities

Wow! This is historic! All the best to the film. Not reading the reviews till Sunday.
CC2C is getting a lot of mainstream reviews in the US and UK – SF Chronicle, Village Voice, Arizona Republic, UK Telegraph, etc. Unfortunately most of the reviews have been negative.
I just returned from a paid preview of CC2C. This movie is so bad and how!! The Music always gives you a hint about what sort of movie you can expect. I was wondering if this was supposed to be such an awesome film then why didnt SEL give good music. After watching the film, I know. They say you should leave your brains at home while watching these kind of flicks but this movie will hunt down your brains all the way to your home and squish it like pulp while you’re at the theater, throwing pop corn at your neighbor. And yeah, if you’re hoping to see some escapist fun in this movie, dream on.On a good note, Akshay’s histrionics are “sometimes” nice and Deepika in Chinese/Uma Thurman avataar looks uber cool.
wow ebert butchered the movie…..akshay kumar is not as manic as jerry lewis nor as affable as adam sandler….hhahaha best line ever
it has a tomatometer rating of 0 %,,,,,,hahahahai think ill give this one a miss and catch the president is coming instead
No Idea about the Movie,
but comparing Akshay Kumar with Sandler & Lewis;is stupidity, (love Jerry Lewis)

While I am at it, one more thing: This movie is supposed to be the first mainstream bollywood release across the world, mainly north America. If this is the face of bollywood that is shown then we have a major problem. All the “New Wave” stuff Spotboy movies and others have tried to do in the past one year is undone in 2.5 hrs by this movie. And we all complain about Slumdog giving bad name to Bollywood. Watch cc2c and you will cringe and be ashamed that this represents first Indian mainstream movie release.
What is it with these foren studios… why they have to burn fingers each time!
Sony did it with ‘Saawariya’ and now this. Anyways these masala movies with sort of ‘crossover’ theme have never been appreciated by Western audiences. But guys I still say it is yet to release in India and who knows.. so don’t write it off just yet!
saw it last evening..its realllyyyyy horibble..cant believe it could be so bad…falls in the league of Kartoos and Daud type of movies…

the movie’s fast, fun and has a catchy tune! its a super mainstream hindi movie that’s making gentle digs at cliches in the genre. not some alternative new wave exploration.

Akki plz grow up, don’t sign this type of Bakwaas movies. I liked your acting but there is no script, senseless story so it’s totally boring and wastage of time.

akki act in some sensible movies…. not always u can go through a funny no sence movie and claim urself to be king… dont ever say urself best of bollywood ur not movies a crap crap crap crap
haven’t seen movie yet… but reviews are not good anywhere… but mind it.. when akki’s “Singh Is Kingg” came, it also started with 1 1/2 * only but it took lead with 4 ****’s.
Hope what goes next.. me going to see the movie for akki :-)

i have not seen the movie cc2c and am looking forward to.
i read all ur comments and am deeply disappointed.
i expected this film to be a gr8 hit.
BUt AK is the best actor and he still rules.
small failures are part and parcel of life.
I will still go for the movie because of AK
senseless ,baseless ,poorly edited movie,why do people have to make such projects to flow so much money drown the drain. akshay treid to forge a repeat of his charcter of singh is kinng but with too much over action. an over all dissapointment another drona…… sad to say

So the movie sucked, eh? WTF is Ranvir Sheorey doing in this movie? Paying the bills, I guess. Oh well.
Read the really bad reviews all over the news from indiafm etc etc. But come on, this is a Akshay Kumar movie. Over the last couple of years from the Khiladi movies to the Heera Pheeri movies to the Singh is King ( urban myth has it that the producer came up with the title first off a truck bumper sticker and then the story!) to this and we have all watched those and loved them, and this movie fits exactly into all of those.
Akshay Kumar is the true successor to the Bachchan of the 80s and 70s ( the Namak Halal, the AAA days! no one makes those madcap movies anymore and that is essentially because no one of the new generation can carry off those madcap antics – talking to mirrors (AAA) etc etc).
As everyone by now knows AK plays a chef who is mistaken for the reincarnation of Leing Shung ( famous Chinese legend who protected China on the Great Wall of China) and is taken off to China to save a village from Hujo.
Along the way he runs into Deepika who plays twin sisters ( and big big shock – its a been a while since an Indian actress has been given a substantial role in a complete time pass movie!, also been a while since movies have had twin sisters, amnesia etc etc), AK falls in love, loses a family member , starts to believe in himself and finally defeats the villain.
Go and watch this movie, it is well worth the time and money being spent.
( the caveat being : if you are in a mood for A Wednesday, Mumbai Meri Jaan , KKKG , KKHH, go watch Che Part 1 or Twilight or the Reader or rent those instead. If in the mood for a SIK, Heera Pheeri, Namak Halal kind of entertainment , then go watch this , its a great 2.5 hours ).

Akki i love you,i went and saw the first day first show. i dont know how i sat through the whole film.Akki you dissappoint,welcome singh is king is far far better.Why does he sign such stupid movies.As somebody wrote it pricks ur brain even after u leave the hall.there were some light scenes , but the total film destroys that moments also to the recycle bin long before you leave the theatre.i dont know what to tell you guys,before going to watch the movie toss a coin and go, atleast you dont have to blame yourself.best of luck guys,and what a shame this movie is being projected as the big bollywood release all over america and europe.not a single soul will watch bollywood if this is what we have to offer to the world,forget the world even here

I loved the movie. It’s funny and the story moves fast. I even liked the special effects very much. The short quips through out the movie kept me giggling.
Must watch despite the strong critics to put the movie down. I believe that there are Bollywood lobbies working to tarnish the Akshay image…
