Watching Mongol on DVD and it is a must have item. Though I would have loved to see a Director’s commentary and his cut. Not happening. Perhaps maybe in a later version or on Blu-Ray. For Amazon shoppers, there’s some discounts available here. Beware the DVD version looks like a shortened version of the actual movie.

Rajshri’s next Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi suddenly swamped publishers’ sites all over the net. There doesn’t seem to be any desi Bollywood media site that did not have a mention of EVAB (Yeah you are free to pronounce it as E-vab). Apparently Sooraj Barjatiya is not (repeat: NOT) directing this venture and is only involved in the production and scripting.

Not sure if it was done on purpose or if it was a slip but a few sites have been reporting that it is a remake of Tapasya starring Parikshat Sahni and Rakhee. The movie gave Rakhee her first Filmfare. Released in 1976, the movie was directed by Anil Ganguly, who directed some of the better sensitive stories like Kora Kagaz and Saheb, and some not so better ones like Dushman Devta, Sadak Chap etc. etc.

The movie is being directed by director Kaushik Ghatak who’s first public statement (allegedly) to the press is denying that E-VAB has anything to do with Tapasya.

Meanwhile Ramu-jee, RGV, Ram Gopal Varma is starting a movie with Amitabh Bachchan after having gone through an entire blog post on Bachchan Saab titled B and me. Somehow it seems to have sparked my interest. (yes, inspite of Aag and whatever he’s made after it). According to this news, it’s a … Magnum Opus… yes even before the movie has begun, it has been declared a Magnum Opus… and we go to Wikipedia to change the meaning of the term…

Ram Gopal Varma’s next film is inspired by the media and featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Manisha Koirala, Mallika Sherawat and Paresh Rawal among others. It will be his biggest film yet.

“The film basically revolves around the business of news.

how the media takes up a subject and treats it,” says a source associated with the untitled movie. It has been written by Rohit Bhandwilkar with inputs from Varma himself.

So why a movie on media? Perhaps it’s Ramu’s time for REEEEEVVVVVEEEENGGEEEEEE… expect bloggers too to be bashed alongside the media in this one… but jokes apart, it would be interesting to see what he comes up with. Any idea on the past works of Rohit Bhandwilkar? Please do share.

IANS is reporting that the advance booking of tickets for Roadside Romeo and Heroes is quite encouraging. The problem, I have is no one ever mentions just “how much” is “encouraging”.

While today Victoria Beckham was buzzing around on the net. No not her physically but her pictures. She appears on the Indian version of Vogue in a saree and… I have no idea why I’m putting this down… Anyways all my Paschim friends on the net has been flooding me with questions about the former spice girl’s attire… I have no idea… and even if I do, I shall feign that I have no idea, lest Biwijee demands that I buy an exact replica of Ms. Posh’s saree.

On the Business side of things, apparently

Indian film producers can now get easy access to tax breaks, fresh funding sources and practical support, thanks to a new co-production treaty with the British government. The joint venture kicked off with the first co-production “London Dreams” at a starry affair in Trafalgar Square with Bollywood stars Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan and director Vipul Shah.

I still have not understood what the hell does the shooting of London Dreams have anything to do with the tax break policy. Notice the word “treaty”. Flashback to History books in schools. I still can’t believe the British use the word “treaty”… shouldn’t we Desis have our own “T” word like the African Americans have the “N” word?

For Early adopters of Technology, there’s some good news. Samsung Electronics Co. is equipping Blu-ray DVD players so they can retrieve movies and TV shows from Netflix Inc.’s Internet streaming service. And movie fans on the East Coast of America will be happy to note that Comcast is coming up with some heavy duty broadband net connections of up to 50 megabits per second (Mbps) of “downstream” speed. What does this mean? HD quality movies on your computer downloaded within a couple of minutes… To check if the service is available in your area go to this link

  3. Oz am not sure, if any one will wanna remake Tapasya today, Rakhee’s sacrificial sister act, will hardly have any takers in today’s “Me-first” generation.

Heroes has got a good review from TA, but am quite sceptical of his revus. Anyway Karzzz has been a flop, not the success people were expecting.
