Editor Note

Danny Denzongpa
For the first time ever on internet and after a long wait in films, we will be seeing HIM(The Bhaktawar!!) again in Frozen. The editor of this article has seen the movie at one of the numerous film festivals that Frozen has entered and has won an award in almost every film fest. I cant stop gushing about it. Go watch it!!

A great oppurtunity for people in Mumbai, India. It is getting a screening. For more details visit Here

This is a unique interview that Shivajee has covered, the questions being in text and the answers in a video. Hope you like it. Do visit the screening of the film!!

1.    We have heard that you throw away more scripts than actually accept and read and then finally work in those films. Why Frozen?

2.    Tell us something about your character Karma and how did you prepare for it?

3.    What are your impressions about Ladakh and the people of Ladakh?

4.    Tells us something about the other actors who “suffered” with you in Ladakh?

5.    What about the Crew and how did they “torture” you?

6.    How did you manage in those extreme conditions? How different was this experience from other films you have done?

7.     You were really impressed by the Production Designing. Something about that?

8.    How convinced were you about the Black and White stuff? Any doubts about that decision?

9.    You were saying something about “jam”. Tell us why you have stopped eating it?

10.  Special memories?

BTW..you all..watch out for Gauri..the main character in the movie…she has done an astounding job in it…

There is one scene where gauri and her kid brother..roll down the slopes and fall in the cold streaming water/lake…and then the helmet rolls into the stream…it was SUPERB!!!!!…again..it was shot in Ladakh in fuckign winter..there are many a times when you are watching the film and freaking..you feel cold..u feel u had a blanket to cover urself..i love this movie!!

And i got soo many details of the movie after speaking to Shivajee after the screening…and i know..everybody will have tons of questions to ask him after the screening is done..coz..the script is awe-inspiring…so, i urge everybody in Mumbai to try and go for the screening…and talk about ti with shivajee…BTW..he is a very chilled person with amazing sense of humor..we all were surprised that a person with such a sense of humor can make a movie like FROZEN!!!

Karma is a very common name in Ladakh. And I thought Karma or Karm is also an underlying theme in Frozen.

You haven’t seen me getting angry on set. I think it is there in the making :-)
    But it happened only once.

Danny mentions in his interview that his father was a monk. So Danny was very very particular about the name also as he was with the makeup and costumes.

Danny is a very private person and shuns media glare totally. I could ask him to do something like that but that would happen only as part of the release of Frozen.

  19. This is one fantastic, almost meditative film that I saw at Osian’s two years ago. The fact that it is yet to be released in theatres / home video market or shown on satellite TV makes my blood boil. Where are all those so-called proponents of original thinking in Indian cinema who claim to back such projects? Where is the so-called multiplex revolution that is supposed to provide a platform to independent, small cinema? Will it remain Danny’s best-ever performance never seen by people? At least someone should give people the opportunity to watch this film – it may or may not do well commercially, and given its fiercely independent treatment, it is definitely meant for a niche audience, but at least that niche should get the chance to watch it. I will be very pleased if the 3 questions posed by me are angrily countered to prove it otherwise…BTW, Shivajee: did you enter your film in Indian panorama or the national awards?

    UN:F [1.7.7_1013]

    • @Utpal Borpujari
We are entering for the national awards.Thankfully release is not the requirement and I have 2007 censor certificate. The forms were supposed to be out by this time but then DIFF works at its own pace.

It is painful to see certain films which have lost to Frozen in various competitions shown in world cinema in Indian TV. I am not against showing them but then I think we still are fascinated by a “Foreign” tag and just can’t accept that a film like Frozen could be made in India.
The answers to your three Questions
      1. There are none
      2.There are none
      3.Sadly it could become true

this reminds me of the fate of another brilliant movie starring irrfan khan.. The Warrior”. fortunately, it saw a limitedrelease in India after it had made waves in all the FFs across the globe.

@ Shivajee: hopefully some enterprising person will see the goodness of yourwork of art, and give it at least a limited commercial release in India. you can bet the good WOM to spread like wildfire after that, and do the rest.

IMO, the nomination to National Awards might also persuade some1 to take the project up. is UTV listening? Anurag Sir, where are your contacts…?

Would love to see this one?
How does one get to see this film?

There has to be a way to screen these films on the web for a fee without the fear of piracy.

    @Sivaji,
Would it be possible to screen it at a local ChicagoFilmMakers.org club? I could talk to folks at ChicagoFilmMakers.org and find out.

Are you working on other films at the moment?

    thx,

Shivajee Sir-How you doing?..Remember hearing about Frozen a long time ago, it hooked me instantly, and hope you find a release soon.Word of mouth would help, btw I needed to know that considering Frozen hasn’t seen the light for a release as yet,is it possible to pay for a private screening?Anyhow?..Like is it possible to do a screening for it in Delhi?,as I dont think it’s happened as yet, and my dad, who’s also into movies and television, was also eager for it, it would be great if its possible, and if it is, could you mail me the procedure at jehanhanda580@yahoo.co.in, and if it isn’t,dont bother about it. :)
