So lets dive into the final day of movies… Day Four of our festival…

Mainak..lovely film..was expecting this much from you
loading...
Meghna –
I think is on a different planet compared to the rest of the films on this festival. Shishir Jha is the find of this year I think.
I wonder who he is.
MEGHNA is THE Film of PFCone 2010
loading...
u did mention about going to dentist in blog i guess . nice film and ofc awesome score that i had expect from you
loading...
Yes, it looks nice. But I find it sickening that someone would abuse an animal like that for a film. There for I cannot appreciate the film for it’s story, I am distracted by the animal abuse. Too bad (for the fish and for me).
loading...
The cinematography was very good.
Like Tess,I hope as well that the fish survived this film and was not subjected to much abuse. I was cringing during some of those scenes.
loading...
Blown away by today’s movies. Brilliant!
loading...
Wow wow wow !!!!!!
What an outstanding competitive section today. Oz, i think some years down the line, there would be a lot of PFC One film makers out there making their own feature films their own way.All credit to you on PFC for giving a platform as wonderful as this one. It is hard to believe the growth in quality from last year. This is very encouraging for someone like me.
Now the feedback
Open your mouth: Honestly i didnt get it…but i loved the visuals.. 3.5/5
Jasmine: This reminded me of Independence but nevertheless very very good. Raise a very valid and often not
highlighted issue of extremely high rate of school drop outs.. 4/5
Connecting People: a simple yet nice film. I think these are more difficult to make..4/5
The Last Post: good film but i couldnt somehow connect it, though i have to say the effort is herculean.. 3.5/5
The visitor: Safat Ali back again with another good one. I loved the kids performances. 3.5/5
The Emergency: This is the movie of the day for me along with Meghna. The perfect film for the “Gappu” award. The actor
plays out his part extremely well and the execution is superb.. 5/5
Meghna: Another gem from Shishir Jha. Absolutely spellbounding.. 5/5
Water: I couldnt get this one if there was a message or two… 3/5
Actors and the Baton: Extremely well shot and a perfect background score to go with. Plus the actors hold your attention
with very good performances..4/5
Warped: This was the smart one. Liked the concept, the perfect idea to impress someone when you are narrating a one minute idea.. 4/5
Todays competitive section has been the best i think…
More on the open section later…
loading...
Absolutely loved Connecting People..first rate!!
loading...
The movies in the competitive section are getting more & more light in theme as the days are getting closer to final decision. The first and second days had better better ones.
Unfortunately there are some amazing movies in the open section that got lost in the crowd…
Loved “Made in China” Thoughtful theme, perfect acting and cinematography, serious shots, and a very different theme. All in all graceful movie. Good job guys.
“Bhay” liked this too, creeped me out!..good acting.
And what’s up with Safat and masks?? I think it’s getting a little monotonous now..hmm
Last post and actors & baton are good today.
Tired of jasmines and munnis of the worlds! overused themes..
loading...
Great going people. All the very best to everyone for the results !!!
loading...
Films in the open section are not being commented. Guys, go ahead and encourage those who need more attention…
All those who want to watch inner desires in the open section day3, here is the direct link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0drfv_Ce20
synopsis: a neglected writer and a dejected husband finds it hard to suppress his antarvasna or inner desires while writing an erotic piece
loading...
I actually rewatched it again. I now like it even better .. This is your best among ur other entries and betters even your last year’s entry
kudos for trying to make something so taboo.
loading...
It’s different from what Gajendra has attempted earlier … a look at the darker side of the human mind …
loading...
Inner Desires was Awesome Gaj, Gosh it was so raw, riveting and shocking.
loading...
I watched too many of them yesterday so forgetting the names. Is it the same short with necrophilia thing? Darn that was really shocking.
loading...
Absolute magic…loved the film.. Gajendra..keep lighting up the darker side… best film of PFC for me….
loading...
Gajendra bhai… Cheers to you!!!
loading...
Inner desires- very well executed.loved the film.
loading...
Open your mouth, Meghna and the emergency are my favs today from competitive section. Jasmine, Last Post and actors and baton were also very well done.
Will post about Open section soon. I have my own entry in the list
loading...
WTF was Inner Desires!!! Holy fucking shit..i am stunned that this was not selected for competition..fuck and forget the technical aspects..if at PFCOne we are looking at the story telling abilities and concept..Gajendra bhai movie deserved its place there..for me the best movie this year..it is fucking haunting…brilliant Gaju bhai….
loading...
This year, I personally felt that visuals, execution, how professionally the video looks is given a bit more importance than the idea, concept, story
. It is tough to capture good visuals without good equipments and a professionally cut video while working 10 hrs in office
.
Remember, I love PFC! Just wanted to share my thoughts.
loading...
For me, A disappointing “In Competition” day. Lack of ideas. Visuals are given importance here I think.
Meghna was good and Emergency was fun.
Now on Open section.
loading...
Open your mouth is awesome.Great visuals , music and I like how a bad day as been put forth.
loading...
Open Your Mouth: Great visuals, excellent camera work, but not sure what exactly was the director wanting to convey, or was it Dhar, was simply taking the cinema to be a Visual Medium, where we experience the images.
Jasmine: Lovely Short, depicting the issue of girls dropping out from School.
Still watching some, but from what i see, the quality is great, we sure have a large critical mass of excellent movie makers in the wings waiting to be tapped. Hope PFC One takes the small steps, that would result in a Giant step for the budding movie makers.
loading...
Darn! I am missing all the fun and action beacause I am on a stupid trip. Can’t wait to watch the films!!!!
loading...
Hi Folks!!!
I have submitted 3 films in this fest. First Love got selected in the competition section (Day 3 films). Singles – 2nd version got selected in the open section (Day 4). Singles (version 1) hasn’t made it to the selection.
Please see the two versions and let me know how I could have told this story in a better way (I myself feel that clarity is missing in the film; but what I did was the best I could do for a minute film).
1st version (rejected)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByXIhtyJfLI
2nd version (go selected in the open section)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Z408LMvlL8
The story is……. being jealous that his roomie has a girlfriend, a guy fakes a phone-call that he too has a girl-friend.
Cheers,
Purnesh

my movies of the day

Connecting People
Meghana

meghana and emergency both are great films…kudos to the makers

Please don’t take the films off in a hurry. Please let them tay for a while… at least another day.

@all – another appeal to everyone to please watch and comment on the open section movies as well. your comments could make someones day.
Open Section
——————–
An Hour Before – couldnt make out what was written on the CD. (Play *Something*). and the last bit of dialogue didnt make much sense to me. also, the BG music was very loud.
Paranoia – a nice attempt. but the loud bg music rendered the dialogues inaudible at times.
Jago Re – nice one. but the lighting in the night scenes was a big issue. it felt like a thief trying to climb something, running away at the sound of a watchman. only later was the intention clear.
Our Future – a good thought, but could have been presented better.
Bugged – wow! loved it. very nicely shot, and the vfx were good too.
Made in China – F#%k that was wonderful! why was this not in the Competitive Section. worked for me big time.
Blackmail – (my entry) i have got this big garden (Evershine Dream Park), right in front of my building. seeing these young college couple canoodling everyday gave me a thought, as to what would happen if someone who is able to see them like i do, tries to take undue advantage. thats how this one shaped up. i feel now that i could have done some things in a different way. there is always a next time.
DEAF-D Extreme Audio Fantasy – wow 2 copyrighted songs in a minute. how did u manage to get those permissions yaar. as for the film itself, the message was good, but the presentation was bad. try weaving it in a story next time.
Coincidence – what happened there? why did he think that he would go inside the book if he reads it? why was he shocked to see that photograph? liked the light saber effect, but the fight choreography was poor.
Super Babloo – he he. liked it. liked the change of expression on the mothers face when she calls out to babloo for lunch.
Swinebaba and the Two Thieves – didnt work for me at all. was too wordy to start with. and the lighting in the first half was bad.
Illusion of a lonely man – the loneliness didnt come across at all. instead he just looked like another drug addict.
Connecting Lines – what was that? buying a book and just flipping through its pages marking some lines. even the lines werent visible. didnt make any sense.
born again – nice concept. but was too wordy. there were times when the images were enough and the voiceover was not required. and the subtitle was hardly visible. and also, dont make your character and the voiceover speak at the same time. here you characters crying was too loud and the voiceover was drowned beacause of it.
face value – good message, but the video didnt do any justice to the message. if you dont put the line at the beginning and at the end, then its just a random video of smiling kids.
Life is not Easy – loved the voiceover (it was a bit nasal though). the thoughts were good. the video could have been better. the expressions were good.
I Care – ha ha ha ha. liked it. but the expressions were way over the top. tone down the expressions a bit next time.
The Wailing Recorder – this had the potential of being a good short. the “Int. Arthur Road Jail” and “Int. Home” ruined some of the effect. better presentation could make this a wonderful short film.
The Killing Thing – loved the way the relationship thing was shown in a series of photograph, but seriously No Smoking PSA’s have hit the roof this year. some shots could have been better lit.
Suhaag Raat – didnt understand the end at all. i liked everything upto the end, especially the way the song changes from ghungte mein chanda hai to choli ke peeche kya hai. but the end ruined it for me.
Dream Catcher – nice thought, but nothing was happening onscreen. the train shots were totally irrelevant, just forced into the narrative.
The Discussion – the dubbing was bad. the film was pointless after actually seeing what could be done in One Minute. and follow the policy ’show, dont tell’.
Wrong End – first of all thats not homicide, thats suicide. and second, being HIV+ve doesnt mean that one has AIDS too. It can be years before HIV has damaged the immune system enough for AIDS to develop (courtesy http://www.avert.org/aids.htm).
Society’s Menace – understood that unwanted calls are a menace. but try using handsfree next time, or better still shut the damn phone.
Mocking the Minute – funny. but that was a way too long minute. some of the things shown are impossible, but still its ok, as it was meant to be funny.
Kalikaal – appeared way too long. very dialogue heavy. i was bored midway.
Singles – a beaten to death concept, phone rings in a fake call.
Inspiration – very wordy. felt like a review of The Kite Runner (i havent seen the movie, but the Novel was beautiful).
Made in India – a PSA with a good message, but it so felt like a Saree and Jewellery advertisement in the beginning, and was very wordy in the second half.
Wakeup – nicely shot PSA. especialli loved the shot of the watch with the fans reflection. best PSA for Environment this year.
Happiness Divorced – nice effort, but there far too many convenient coincidences in that one. would look confusing to some, the accident should have been shown earlier instead of going for the shock value and showing it at the end.
Fundamental – didnt understand, even after reading the brief synopsis. couldnt connect the synopsis with the movie.
Raashee ka Chakkar – haath dekh ke raashi malum chal gayi? the humor didnt work for me, and the bg music was too cartoonish.
Why I wake up late – Woah! Vigilante in a minute, but saw that twist coming. nice and brave attempt though.
Naach – didnt work for me.
Greatest Trick – it was long minute to endure, nothing happened on screen. weaving the thought in a story would have been better.
Inside Out – i was so afraid that inside out would mean ‘puking’ somehow. anyways, didnt work for me at all.
The Lunar Affection – Holy smoke! you could have sent a mass email instead of making this, agar padhna hi tha sab to film kyun dekhna. BAD. and yes, it wasnt funny.
Unrequited – it would have been better if they would have spent the night roaming around with their phones. overall sweet.
Phone Phobia – didnt make much sense. if you see a number flashing, pick it up, dont think whether its an actual call or not.
Bhay (Fear) – nice. but the twist was very predictable.
The Seven Year Itch – the humor didnt work for me. the bg music also didnt suit the film.
Sapnon Se Bhare Naina – nice bg music. i wasnt convinced about ’struggles in life’ part though.
Lovable Memories – what happened there. couldnt make out much of what was going on onscreen. lighting could have been better.

thanks amit for the comment on why i wake up late. glad you enjoyed it!!

meghna was the best of the lot.

Competition section:
##Open Your Mouth##
If I got it right, the guyvisits a dentist, and visualizes various scenes, including some events which led to his dental condition, to escape the pain. Am I right?
Good visuals.
##Connecting People##
Good title style.
Excellent use of sound effects for titles and credits.
You could have used some transitions between subsequent calls. Or, may be, different calls could have been received at different locations.
##Jasmine##
Excellent frames.
The girl performed well.
The portion between 0:48 and 1:02 could be cut (the crowd’s legs, the girl walking away).
##The Last Post##
Didn’t get it.
Here’s my guess: The lady is tired of various atrocities in the outside world, and is confined to her room under imaginary protection by an army man’s photo. (Don’t giggle if
I’m wrong!)
The shot of the lady running through the road was excellent.
##The Visitor##
Well shot. Good performances.
The cut from the back of the head was good.
##The Visitor##
Excellent lighting.
The boy acted well.
Cut between last shot and credits was good.
##The Emergency##
Excellent.
Good to see few wonderful comedy shorts this year.
Good acting. Good BGM. Good locations.
Could it have been better if we established early on that he is an actor?
##Warped##
Amazing concept. The best one in this fest so far.
Do expand it to a feature length script. (Watch Bruce Almighty, Stranger than Fiction or Being John Malkowitch for inspiration!)
##Meghna##
Majid Majidi meets Kieslowski and Gabriel Garcia Marquez!
Here’s a standing ovation.
My pick for the Golden Minute.
(Somehow, the best shorts of this fest have a rain in the climax…)
##Water##
Good one.
Excellent use of sound effects.
Why didn’t you use some medium/close shots?
loading...
Thank you for the comments on ‘Water’:)
It was a workshop where you could only make two shots.
I wanted to make a film the audience had to think about.
loading...
Shahul….
Good Try.
Quite close , but not quite
But it doesnt matter what was the intention. What people percieve & take from it is equally important. And thats why filmmaking can be so much fun…

Thanks for the responses, Tess and Moinky…

Competitive Section
———————————
Open Your Mouth – loved the visuals. but the sound was very low for my headphones. bg music was nice too. couldnt understand, but the visuals were outstanding, especially from the train station onwards.
Jasmine – wow! very beautiful and strong visuals. loved it. better than Munni (IMO). what camera did you use?
Connecting People – there was some problem with the dialogues, the way they faded out without the dialogue being complete felt weird. The lady acted very well. and it was a nice and sweet film overall.
The Last Post – powerful visuals. very well shot. there was some problem with the shots of the fire i think, the fire disappeared and reappeared. expressions were really good.
Actors and the Baton – didnt understand the relevance of the title. liked the movie though. liked the way the flashbacks were shown.
The Visitor – nice camera work, nice acting, nice atmosphere, and nice BG music. but your Towards the Beginnins was better. still, its amongst the best in horrors this year.
The Emergency – loved it. celebrity chain se peshab bhi nahin kar sakta.
Warped – nice. liked it a lot.
Meghna – had good visuals, and was working very well for me, but i was totally put off when i saw the suffering fish.
Water – looked good, but couldnt understand a thing. didnt work for me.
loading...
Thats sad that the sound was low on your headphones…
Sound was very important for OPEN YOUR MOUTH. Esp when the music picks up in the escalator shot…

a special appeal to all the people who have submitted their movies, do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
“if you want people to comment on your films, start commenting on others as well. other makers are feeling the same things as you are, and they would like to hear about their work as much as you would like to hear about yours. come on, start commenting.”
loading...
Open your Mouth was fantastic..love how the audio fades out and comes back. Emergency is simply hilarious…entertaining 1 minute.
We had high hopes on two movies that we made, but they didnt make it to competitive section.
please watch “Made in China” in the open section. We tried to use a rarely used subject….India China war. here is the direct link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vy47tJ1ep4
Also, “Bugged” in the open section is a Science Fiction, and was a lot of fun
working with the special effects
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1quCeuMQMI

liked both of them, but loved your ‘Made in China’. have left a comment on all the films above.

Open section:
##Lovable Memories##
Seemed too long.
Good climax punch.
Would have looked better if shot in daytime.
Is it the same VM Vinu who has directed few Malayalam feature films?
##Sapnon se Bhare Naina##
So much effort wasted on a misleading message.
The girl could have been directed better.
##The Seven Year Itch##
Different.
The climax was good.
##Bhay##
I was wondering how you are going to end this one, and there she is…! Good one!!
Good closing shot.
The doctor should have been directed better.
A hyphen is to be used ahead of subtitles only when the two lines are delivered by different characters.
##Phone Phobia##
Good concept
The subtitles were too small.
Broke the 180 degree rule at 0:32
Why was the term “phobia” used?
##Unrequited##
Good idea.
The last scene at 6.23 PM appeared brighter than the earlier one at the time.
##The Lunar Affection##
Good cartoon strip.
##Inside Out##
Actually, which one did he eat?
##Greatest Trick##
The visuals created expectations about a good climax punch. That message was a big let down.
loading...
Great learning point for us Shahul. Thanks for the feedback.

@ Meghna:
Looks half Slumdog half Taare Zameen Par.
Nice Video but need to come up with some original idea.
loading...
@ Open your mouth
Good visuals but can not comprehend the idea behind.
@ Last Post:
Lot of Depth in the Idea. Commendable Performances. Kudos to Director.
loading...
loved the folowing
1. Open your mouth – khao aur khilao aur kharcho
2. Jasmine – touching.
3. Connecting ppl – sweet
4. Emergency…sooper
5. Meghna…- awesome..jaan gayi to baarish aayi..

@amit
my movie ‘illusion of a lonly person’was not about a drug addict person its about a prson who bcoz of lonely less lives in a illusion and takes tata salt, perciving it as drug…later he becoms happpy visualisin himself in a mirror as a person who is boyfrin of his lady love…
thanx anyway for reviwing all the open section movies..
loading...
just saw it again. the Tata Salt shot passed away too quickly. you should have used a packet which had salt filled till above the name of the product. because of the empty packet, the name is unreadable. only after reading your comment i noticed about the tata salt. still what you were trying to say was not translated properly on screen. no offence meant, but try harder next time. (i myself have to try harder to get in the competitive section)
loading...
##Naach##
Many grammatical errors in the subtitles.
The girls looked at the camera on few instances.
Shabby work.
##Why I Wake Up Late##
Sound mixing needs improvement. While the BGM pierced the ears at times, the dialogue was incomprehensible in places.
Some shots were good.
##Fundamental##
Didn’t get the concept. Was it about the monotonous nature of the depicted lives?
Shots of the ant were good.
##Raashee ka Chakkar##
Good title design.
Good performances.
For scenes like this, with one-to-one conversations among three people, a lot of planning is needed to ensure that you do not break the 180 degree rule. The DVD series
Hollywood Camera Work has a section devoted to this issue.
##Happiness Divorced##
Some effort should have been put to the title page of the “Divorce papers” file.
The climax was plotted well.
Performances were good.
##WakeUp##
Great visuals.
Good BGM.
loading...
@shahul, thanks for the feedback on “why i wake up late”. it was a first and i was short on time. and nice to see you really painstakingly commenting on each film.
loading...
The night shots looked really good. Best of luck for your next projects.
Trying to review all the movies by Sunday evening, and declare my awards
I am still to watch many open section films from days 2,3 and 4

Paranoia – It was nice to see someone look at the present issues from a very angle… could it have been better? Sure, but that’s what this festival is about, getting to start.
Jaago Re, I thought would show a murder or something in the end, instead it lead to PSA
One thing that came out of this festival was the awesome use of Special Effects, now that the tools are available on everyone’s PC or Mac. And mercifully no one at this festival used Effects just for the heck of it. Living Room on the previous day, Bugged today by Amit Dubey and Gokul Govindu was pretty neat. I guess the story they weaved around could not hook the panel but this is a pretty good effort and should be recognized… Made in China, made by the same duo, was the one of the other entries that I loved and hoped would make it to the competition section. Again I guess it could not because it lost its sharpness in the message in the end or perhaps the way it was unfolded on screen. I would like to see Amit and Gokul try different versions of the screenplay for Made in China. I know for a fact that one of my favorite directors Sriram Raghavan creates multiple screenplays for the same story that differ from each other. I think Sriram is one of the few I know who work the hardest on screenplay. I would say advise (well not advise but say point to-) many of the participants including Amit and Gokul to emulate Sriram’s approach and see how better and tighter their stories get. Forget the camera and lights and the actors, spend as much time as possible on paper and create a new version better than the last or at least see how it differs from the last.
Blackmail – by Amit Mishra was a bit of a shocker… does this happen in India?
Anthony’s Super Babloo was a treat to, but I think the end got a bit – usual… I’m hoping to see Anthony next year progress to wild, raw imagination and creative stories. School time is over, if I must say it.
Swinebaba from Anuj and Keval from Canada was fun too. I’m using the word “tighten” a lot today… and that’s what will come the more you write stories and the more you shoot them and the more different versions you create to learn the mistakes you are making. I think movie making is akin to programming. The more mistakes and bugs a programmer has in his/her code, makes him/her a better and better programmer. Ditto for filmmaking, in my opinion.
Illusions of a lonely man by Anurag received a very good response from the panel members, it just couldn’t make it to the competition section because of the tough battle we had in the section this year. Ditto for Connecting Lines by Aravindan from Chennai, that was a neat idea.
Loved FaceValue, I though it was lovely of Ashudeep Sharma from Bhopal to take the camera and create a kind of a documentary of the children on the streets or those on the railway station.
Bhavpreet’s Life is not Easy, again I felt the challenge is in engaging the viewer. I thought it was entrapped in its own thought. Again would like Bhavpreet to rewrite the screenplay multiple times from different angles, try a comic thread into it or such different threads. In its current form I thought it was akin to a poetry that only it’s writer loved. This is the in-box thinking. And once a filmmaker sees it in the mirror, that is the point when the churning inside as a person and as a filmmaker begins for an outside the box journey… and to do that one has to start first and I’m glad to see many did!
Jehan Handa’s The Wailing Recorder – very commendable effort by such a young guy, but I could not connect with it or feel it. I think thought, there is a lot of potential here but he has to drop the Doordarshan style of thought process for a story.
KH Prabhu doing a PSA! Somehow it was like Johnny Lever doing a Meena Kumari tragic movie
Neat attempt at a different style. The click throughs I thought was quite good mixed with motion.
Suhaag Raat again is a great start but Kandaswami traps himself in a cliche towards the end. We see the same issue here. What may have been in the filmmakers mind isn’t there on the screen for us to see clearly. Things though will only get better from here!
One must realize that all filmmakers were shooting on less than zero budgets
)) and still come up with such beautiful, passionate and energetic works!!!! This is no small feat… Very Very Impressive!!!
Society’s Menace by Manish Jain, I thought was very well executed. But the story wasn’t unique and thus it must have lost out from being in the competition section.
Singles by Purnesh from Los Angeles was fun! The opening shots of Wake Up! by S.R. Mithra from Chennai were darn cool! Happiness: Divorced by Samarth Garg and Gurpreet Singh needed a sharp screenplay woven around a pretty good idea.
Sandeep V. who won the Golden minute last year, came up with Fundamental, very neat idea of two different worlds in the same room, but I guess it finally became an ordinary story seen multiple times on tele, and lacked the vital punch his winning entry had last year.
Raashee kA Chakkar by Sanjeev Tandle had the jokes but I guess it missed out on the execution part and the timing. But great to see stories on such comic lines being brought to the festival, I definitely would love to see more of these
Saurabh Gupta’s Why I wake up late was a lovely idea. I guess the screws didn’t tighten up on the viewer. But they will the more stories and films you write and make like these.
Greatest Trick – I think the challenge for Shitij was to relay his message… and subtitling it in the cinema format isn’t the way to go. It irks many viewers when you handle them this way. Hopefully you’ll spend more time and come up with newer versions of the same idea to refine the delivery of your idea.
Liked Unrequited by Tarvinder Singh, the idea was there but the delivery needs to be tightened up. Ditto for Phone Phobia by Tejas Mavinkure from Bangalore.
Tushar and Onkar’s Bhay, I thought was going to make it to the competition, where it lost out perhaps, was because the panel was seeing similar subjects in a few other entries… the challenge now is to see how they could have kept the idea and made it better than it’s present state both on paper and on set.
Vaibhav Kerlekar’s Seven Year Itch was funny. I initially didn’t know where this was going until the fall!!!
I know I’ve left out a few here. Need to get back to wrapping up the festival. I’ve been watching all your movies since September and have seen each (yes each movie) 10 to 12 times during the various stages of preparation for the festival.
Coming to the Competitive section in a few.

@oz
this doesnt happen, but very well could.
but gangs threatening and looting off people with their ATM cards does happen. sometime around september-october, there was this news report on Aaj Tak (i think), where they reported about a gang, which would forcefully enter in a taxi with people (the taxi driver was hand in glove with the gang). they would always time their heist at around half an hour before midnight. they would have the person at gunpoint and force him to remove the maximum amount possible from one ATM, get him back in the taxi, drive around, and after midnight when the limit is reset, they would force him to remove the maximum possible amount again from another ATM.
i had that idea at the back of my head and just fused the two while trying to make ‘blackmail’.

thanks OZ for calling “why i wake up late” a lovely idea
) where do u think it floundered predictability or the execution? i suppose the panel would have got it if not others.
anyway thanks for reviewing all the entries in open section today..

I think the Narration is too much. It can be reduced a lot if not removed entirely.
let me give pou one shot that is the symbol of what I am talking about –
The guy picks up Bread & Omlette with his right hand. Its a close of of his hand & the bread & omlette. And we hear the narrator say “bread & Omlette”.
Think about that
:notsure:
Plus its a movie thats trying to be clever with a twist in the end. I feel twists rarely work in 1 minute. Movies like ELEVATOR are exception.
Is it supposed to be funny & making fun of SuperHero genre? Or is it serious…
loading...
@moinky , i wrote it atfirst as kind of spoof with the just the last shot being him perched over the roof. mask being liberating for him. but ended up adding all the jumping, climbing later on and i guess i took it more seriously. even added music to go with the serious tone.
i agree with you, more often then not twists dont work within 1 minute. didnt like some very good entries this year in the competitive section just for that. even in my film transition was weak and felt too abrupt.
btw thanks for the feedback or else i would have ended up repeating the mistake second time.

Thanks for the feedback, Oz… it really helps.
Bhay started as a challenge at our local bar: to make a 60 second horror film in a regional language. Glad you and the “junta” liked it!
Trivia: None of the actos in “Bhay” know how to speak Marathi.

I see a lot of us commiting the same atrocities within their 1 minute of fame…that we mostly complain about…
Mainly, considering the audience to be a moron… and secondly forgetting that the first step to sending a message across is catching one’s attention…and some new age reseach suggests that you’ve got about 6.5 seconds to do that.
never…ever treat those 6.5 seconds casually.
keep rolling !

A lot of people are complaining that no one is watching/commenting about films in Open Category. I don’t know about others but here is what my plan is- I intend to watch the Competitive Films & discuss mainly them until the winners are announced.
Next week I will try to comment on as many of the Open Section films as I can.
That way I will not have “PSA Fatigue” which will effect my feelings towards some films.
loading...
“Open your Mouth” is awesome with great editing and music. The shots of the car on the hillside and the escalator ones are beautiful.
“Emergency” was hilarious and brought together the celebrity and peeing angle so unique to India. This movie is way better than the seemingly made-for-TV comedy like Biscuit, Elevator and Oye Pappe. I am not saying they weren’t funny but the scope was far bigger in Emergency.
“Meghna” was very well composed visually. Did the poor fish (not the story one but the real one) die in the making of the movie?
The “The Last Post” also had a larger scope with various layers/people/locations etc. It was done well and gets its message across.
The “Visitor”, “Actors and the Baton” and “Warped” are barely OK. Safat Ali’s Mannequin was his best and unfortunately remains so.
Warped was such a badly made movie. That brings me to my pet peeve, why are people interpreting “concept” just as a smart-ass story with no regard for visuals. Some people above have commented that all the entries seem to be just about visuals. This is cinema people!!! One also needs to conceptualize each frame, the set/atmosphere, every transition, every bit of sound/dialogue etc. All these so called technical details also need concepts.
OZ, I too really loved “Made in China” in the open section. It deserves to be in the competitive section and is easily amongst the top 15 movies. It has good visuals, a brilliant story and very good acting. Can somebody tell me why something like “Check-Mate” or “Welcome to the Gang” or “Ice-cream” was chosen over this movie?
“Bugged” was also a pretty good effort even though it didn’t quite hit the mark as Made in China did
“Inner Desires” from yesterday had a nice bold subject and could have been executed better.
The shot of the girl dipping her foot into the pool in “Water” was shot brilliantly and had immense sound. Otherwise it didn’t work at all.
loading...
Mehul,
I appreciate your feedback on “Made in China”. I think its just bad luck that the panel didnt consider my 3 movies …”Made in China”, “Bugged”, and “In Wonderland” good enough to be in competitive section. It was very disappointing to see Made in China not make it.
loading...
@mehul
You are too kind.
And I am with you about the visuals vs story battle. It need not be a battle. I think there should be a right balance.
Sometimes one beautiful can move you more profoundly than a complete feature film. Remember “A picture is worth a thousand words”.
And good visuals doesnt mean expensive cameras. All one needs to do is know where to place the camera. I think just by watching Shishir Jha’s two films – Munni & Meghna, one can learn a lot about framing. They are both exquisite & perfect.
I thinks visuals are esp even more important for a 1 minute film. There’s hardly any time to register good acting. Take the example of Water. Its as simple as a short film can be. No Dialogue. Just 2 shots. But it connects with me.
On the other hand how can one expect a good story with bad framing, horrible acting to be liked by audience. Doesn’t the short do injustice to a good story? And its even more annoying when I see a great story butchered.
loading...
@ Mehul @ Moinky
Yay, thanks for the comments about ‘Water’. You totally got it!
I’m a happy filmmaker now. (^_^)

The Visitor – Nice, but I had watched Bhay from the open section and that biased me. Bhay was great..
Emergency : nice concept, something lacking can’t put my finger on it.
Meghna: fantastic cinematography. Beyond that, don’t see what point it is trying to make (and serious 1-minuters like these are usually trying to make a point of some sort). Also as somebody else mentioned I was distracted by the poor dying fish, especially since I know they didn’t use a robotic one.
Jasmine: I think they should make a whole new competitive section for the impoverished girl child. It’s really getting a little old this subject – and it looks painfully like it is specifically tailor-made to ‘tug at the heart strings’.
loading...
Lovely to see responses  The movie making fraternity is really awesome! how much ever competition it has internally it still yearns to learn more and compliments openly
The Last Post: It is the song that is played on Bugle at a military funeral. Though the movie is left very much to interpretation, the basic idea is that the sacrifice of the war heroes is rendered useless by the corrupt and immoral citizens in the country! The lady is the witness!

Open Section
An hour before: appreciate ur effort for making the movie but did not like the movie. BGM was too jarring
Paranoia: a topical film and a good film but it could have ended a little better
Jaagte Raho: good work ajay….so did this actuallly happened somewhere or u just thought of it?
Our Future..? This looks straight out of doordarshan though much better and effective….
Bugged: Technically brilliant and BGM was good but the concept did not work for me
Made in China: The paradox of todays times….This could have made it the competitive section…
Blackmail: Holy fuck……faadu concept tha yaar….
DEAF-D Extreme Audio Fantasy: I am glad that i didnt read the title before watching the film It would have killed the film..
Coincidence: Looks like you guys had a lot of fun while making these shorts. I think Ankeet you have the potential of being the star of PFCO One next year if you just get hold of better concepts. The talent is obviously there to see.
Super Babloo: I was expecting a little better end. Otherwise its a fultoo dhamaal film with some smart BGM. and ofcourse the perfect name Babloo

Swinebaba and the Two Thieves: A LOL film. Wish you could have ended with the house owners expression…
Illusion of a lonely man: i loved this one……the acting was good the visuals could have been a little better
Connecting Lines: i didn’t get this one.. Could the maker thow more light..?
Born Again: Hmm not impressed…..If you could have just not used a voiceover and let the visuals do the talkin then probably the impact wud have been there..
Face Value: can’t comment….dunno wat to say as have no opinion about this one…
Life is not Easy: Actor could not hold my attention…even the concept is not that appealing
I Care: My favourite of today’s open section. Harish, fanatastic work dude….this movie could have been ruined by a bad performance but u held it really well
The Wailing Recorder: Could not connect to the film. BTW what movie is the song from?
loading...
Let me start with the problems in OPEN YOUR MOUTH.
It seems like the film is flowing smoothly until the interval & then the dialogues start & it just loses that flow. It becomes a bit jarring.
The 1st shot of the Bartender is too dark & hazy.
The effect of the shot at the cigarette shop is laughable.
Is it all a fuckin dream? Thats what it seems. If it is, what a cliche’….
loading...
wow .. if you can look at your own film and analyze it so well , why would u make the mistakes in the first place
loading...
I’m glad you noticed. Its interesting how no one else did.
The Idea is to learn from every film you make & get better & better. I was also being a bit sarcastic in my critique.
I think every filmmaker should criticize their own film in comments. It will be very interesting…

Some amazing films.Liked Meghna,Connecting People and Jasmine.Emergency was LOL and the kids were good in The Visitor.

Hi All,
Here’s some feedback on some of the open section movies. Not done watching all of them yet though.
165 An hour before Abhishek Ranjan Muzaffarpur , India
I didn’t get it. Couldn’t understand what the guy said in the last few seconds and probably that’s why I am missing the punch. The BGM could really use some work, it was very distracting and took away from the actual video.
199 Paranoia Ajay Brar Melbourne, Australia
The words were again a bit hard to hear. Concept wise it’s ok. We all hear of what’s going on in Australia and that’s precisely what the film showed. There was no value addition done to it. In terms of acting, it could have been better, it didn’t make me feel worried or concerned.
169 Jaago Re… Ajay Saklani Mumbai, India
A little confusing, first I thought that people were disposing off used condoms but then I realized that it’s really for them to take and use. The Jaago Re title was very misleading and I certainly wasn’t expecting it to do anything with sex. Maybe I am missing the point.
129 Our Future..? Ajay Suryavanshi Ahmedabad, India
I see that there is a message being thrown out abt pollution and the use of pesticides and what not that could affect the future generation adversely but technically it could have been bettershown. A litle more time could have been spent on the shots that show the farmer using pesticides (and I didn’t catch the other scene that turns into something white and goes into something else the woman is eating).
In general if someone is making a PSA type film, then I think that its not enough to just spell out the problem that everyone is aware of anyway. The film should at least be able to generate some emotion in the viewer whether its of pity, disgust or motivation to do something about it. A lot of the PSA’s suffer from this and they are just not so interesting to watch.
212 Bugged Amit Dubey & Gokul Govindu San Francisco, USA
23 Made in China Amit Dubey and Gokul Govindu San Francisco, USA
Can’t really comment on Bugged and Made In China since I was involved in their production. Definitely disappointed that Made In China didn’t make it. Thanks everyone for the encouraging comments.
113 Blackmail Amit Mishra Mumbai, India
Interesting concept. Definitely wasn’t expecting that poor couple to be blackmailed like that. With some more technical effort, this could have been much better. For example, the first time I watched it, I couldn’t tell that in the first two scenes somebody was taking pictures of the couple. Instead of just freezing the frame, a white flash effect would have conveyed the message much better (like in “The Killing Thing”). Acting, dialogues and cutting the scenes could have been much better too.
5 DEAF-D Extreme Audio Fantasy Ankeet Pai Mumbai, India
So the guys is deaf? If yes, then how is he talking on the phone? Or are you trying to say that this is how the guy answers his phone every time with a no coz he can’t hear what’s being said at the other end anyway? The dancing didn’t go with the songs at all. The actor was not in step with the beat and the deafness didn’t come out at all.
51 Coincidence Ankeet Pai Mumbai, India
Cool concept but it didn’t work for me. The main actor’s delivery was expressionless and the dialogues could use more work. And what was up with the thin guy’s costume? Was he wearing a ladies kameez the other way around?
125 Super Babloo Anthony Fernandes Pune, India
Loved the mom. The teacher was good too, the dad could definitely use more work. The mom’s environment was the best and very authentic, the teacher’s environment was a bit wierd. How many teacher’s have you seen lounging on a bean bag and in a balcony with plants? A school environment would have worked much much better like sitting in a classroom in front of the blackboard. The dad’s office space lacked character and looked dull. His lines weren’t as good as the mom’s or the teacher’s either. But alas, just when I thought that this film was going somewhere, the ending killed it. I don’t have abetter suggestion but the bastard and bitch didn’t work at all. I didn’t create a shock factor if that’s what was tried to show. Really like the mom!
174 Swinebaba and the Two Thieves Anuj Virani and Keval Raval Windsor, Canada
So I got the first part that the two guys have broken into someone’s house and one of them is asking the other to take protective measures coz of the new virus spreading around. But I lost it in the second half. What happened?
111 Illusion of a lonely man Anurag Jaipur, India
So he’s high on salt? The ejaculation scene was ewwww and it ruined the movie for me.
147 Connecting Lines Aravindan M Chennai, India
Didn’t get it. What’s AKS? Why was he underlining lines that were already underlined?
188 Born Again Arun Nair Thane, India
Interesting. Good attempt but the cool factor was missing from the smoking shots or the ones with the girl.
152 Face Value Ashudeep Sharma Bhopal, India
I really am bored of poor people being used and used. The phirangis started this whole concept of showing India’s destitue and their lives to shock the world. And now desis are doing it too and it’s not working. It seems like a shortcut to me. Just show poor kids and the audience will get emotional right away and do awwwwww.
69 Life is not Easy Bhavpreet Singh New Delhi, India
Liked the poem a lot. The visuals were pretty good too but something’s missing. If I knew I’d tell you.
206 I Care Harish Koyalagundla Boston, USA
Kinda funny. Expressions were overdone in my opinion. And the pay off was both disgusting and funny. Toilet humour is really not my cup of tea.
186 The Wailing Recorder Jehan Handa New Delhi, India
The BGM didn’t work for me and I am at a loss of words.
17 The Killing Thing K H Prabhu Mumbai, India
Why isn’t drinking being attacked? Why just smoking? At least you won’t crash your car and kill someone else while smoking and driving. Liked the photo shots part of it but again PSAs are not working.
154 Suhaag Raat Kandaswami Mumbai, India
Liked the terrace part. The groom was funny (good acting man). But didn’t get the end? Why was the room was so smoky and what happened? The kid blew up a cracker in their bedroom? The end needed more punch.
196 Dream Catcher Kishore Maddipati Hyderabad, India
Nothing interesting happened in this film for me.
88 The Discussion Kundan David Waghmare Pune, India
haha. cool concept. Could have been shot better, the visuals weren’tr very interesting and the script alone wasn’t enough. Maybe shots of the guy getting slapped in a comical manner by a girl and other things he said he could do would have made the film more appealing and funnier perhaps.
76 Wrong End Mangesh Bahuguna Mumbai, India
The BGM didn’t suit the mood of the movie at all and that took away from it. Acting could have been more convincing.
112 Society’s Menace Manish Jain Delhi, India
Liked this a lot. The camera angles were very different. The dialogues and the actor were awesome. I totally felt his frustration. The ending could have been shot better. And also, why was he picking up all the calls anyway? Especially the ones from telemarketers? I would assume that he would already have the numbers of his family/friends/colleagues stored and so a new number could wait. I think it would hav ebeen better if the guy picked up the first telemarketer call but then disregarded the other tele marketing calls and cursed instead and still juggled with calls from his work. The crash scene definitely needs more effort. All in all, an involving movie.
191 Mocking the Minute Mohd Aamer Gibraan Hyderabad, India
Liked this one too. The BGM was awesome and the bored guy’s dancing and air guitaring was perfectly synced to it. The only shot I didn’t like was the camera one. Everything else fitted in nicely with his boredom. With some more effort on the visuals, it could have been awesome.
loading...
thanks for your comments on ‘Blackmail’. the first three shots were actually part of a larger sequence, where one of the accomplice of the blackmailers roams around in the garden, trying to find the victims, and gives a thumbs up sign in the camera (held by another accomplice), after he spots them. but had to compress everything in 3 small shots with freeze frame, to convey similar message within a small time.
all your suggestions have been duly noted, and i would try my best to improve.
i made a lot of mistakes with this one, the prime being going ahead with the first draft. now i feel i could have refined it. but no use crying over spilt milk. will be back again for the coming PFCOne, hopefully with better shorts.

##Made In India##
The shots were good. But didn’t get much of it.
In PSAs, visuals should convey the message in an unambiguous way.
##Inspiration##
The narration was not clear at times.
I didn’t get how the visuals support the storytelling here.
##Singles##
Good performances.
Had difficulty following the dialogue at times.
##Kali Kaal##
You shouldn’t have used the same location for both your shorts.
The compositions were a big let down.
##Mocking the Minute##
Good titling style.
Some cuts were excellent.
##Society’s Menace##
Good one.
It was totally white outside the car window when he was driving. Was he not driving? You could have got those shots safely in some ground. Or, if he was indeed driving,
you could have used a better location where something was visible outside that window.
Good that you did not include a “Don’t talk to your mobile when you are driving” message in the end ; )

@Oz & the PFC team: As the festival draws to a close, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for pulling together this wonderful event. It’s been an enjoyable, educational (and nerve-wracking!) experience.
@Everyone: Thank you for your comments, your feedback and yes, even your films. We’ve learnt a lot from all of you.
I also wanted to take this opportunity to say these movies have been possible only because of the undying (and non-highlighted as “directors”!) efforts of Sailesh Ramaswamy and Nayeem Nazarullah. Together we form “Aisle Seat Productions”.
(Trivia: Sailesh has slipped in some comments here & there on PFC as rSwamy… look out for him! And Nayeem is the fantastic actor from Elevator and Bhay!)
@Oz: To answer your previous question, we’re not professionals (this is our 1st festival effort!) but with such encouragement hope to get there soon. We like to say, “we’ve been filmmakers all our lives… we just started making films now”
@Our actors: Guys all this has been possible bcoz of you; Ankush, Marut, Khushboo, Sravanti, Sailesh, Nayeem, Sandy… take a bow!
loading...
Thanks PFC … this contest just keeps getting better and better! This has been a fantastic year in terms of quality!
Coz I have so many new ideas (already) and I have to wait for another year before I can showcase them here!Think about it!
I wish this could be a half-yearly competition
loading...
Kabir, your film Pour is wonderfully edited. I like the way you’ve used a tone of grey – seems to speak for the inner gloom the characters find themselves in until it rains, which in itself may be a temporary relief… great acting by the clown, loved his mousy giggle! Hope to see you win this year too!
loading...
##Wrong End##
Seemed too long.
The message was retrogressive.
The last shot was good, but the diagnosis paper did not look “oriignal”
##The Discussion##
Many jump cuts. Poor audio. Marriage video transitions. Shabby work.
When you cut from a medium shot of a character to medium shot of another character, the cut will look better if they are placed in different positions in the frame.
##Dream Catcher##
Are ADs selected on the basis of number of movies they watch?
The convention is to not left align subtitles.
The shots from the train were good.
##The Killing Thing##
The Smoker’s Smoke which dealt with the same message had an interesting script. This one was too on-the-nose.
##The Wailing Recorder##
Good one.
Good use of the subtitles.
##Suhaag Raat##
Wonderful.
It deserved a better camera and some lighting equipment.
##I Care##
Good twist. Good performance.
##Life Is Not Easy##
Good one. Loved the Gulzar-ian narration.
##Face value##
This time there are many films like this – you get some visuals without any effort, add some tangentially related message at the end, and voila, there is a short film.
##Born again##
Good visuals.
What is the need for some unreadable subtitles in the same language when the dialogues are clear?
As someone already mentioned, there is no point in narrating what is there on the screen.

finally open section films. took me time to watch them. so here are the comments:
. u should have let those blackmailers act more dramatic and less smiling

end was haphazard.
but really where is the story . same problem with the last short .
.. nice film.

paranoia – started out well. but didnt end on an interesting note.
jaago re – why do ppl look at PSAs with slight derision. Liked what was tried in jaago re. didnt expect the end
bugged – it started so tightly. loved the effects too. but didnt like the end.
Made in China – very nicely made. liked it. the actor playing the chinese officer was lil bit overdoing the chinese mannerisms, way he moved his hand in that shot where he is holding the map.
blackmail – naah this wont work out anymore. u can send as many pics to my family
coinicidence – made more to show off the lightsabers than present a story
super babloo – bas end mein thodi gadbad ho gayi , nahin to babloo super hai. babloo ki amma ne ache expression diye
illlusion – a very nice and moody piece..
connecting lines – was done well , but couldnt understand it.. plz explain!!
i care : liked it
suhaag raat – loved the start
the discussion – loved it . very funny!! comments bhi background mein mast maare
society’s menace – nice acting . but was expecting a better end.
mocking the minute – nice try.
kaali kal – Mr God looked straight out of jaane bhi do yaaron sets
singles – i used a HV20 in Why i wake up late
made in india – beautiful frames.
wake up – nice score and frames.
happiness divorced – nice acting, but too dramatic twist for me.
raashee ka chakkar – fun short with nice acting
unrequited – weak execution of a nice idea.. but dont know if i were to do it, would it have been better
bhay – didnt find it scary but nicely acted and shot. i think it would hve been more fun if this had been a single continuous shot from the time he checks her knots and goes into bathroom to look for scissor.
seven year itch – nice ending
movies at the end have barely 12 views which is really sad…. even the ppl who have their movies in the festival dont seem to be enthusiastic for discussions.

how much will u discuss for just a min of film?
loading...
true not much . to each his own.. but there are 40 submissions in open section , and i had expect these filmmakers atleast to participate and watch the films. i could definitely use comments on my film

thanks for your comments on blackmail. didnt find a menacing enough actor for the role of the blackmailer. i wanted a menacing smile, but had to do with what i had.
my reasoning for making them smile while threatening was that if the had made a scene, it would have attracted attention, which would be bad for their plan to work. when they are smiling while threatening the onlookers might not take notice of whats going on there.

OPEN YOUR MOUTH
Cool. Slickly made. Doesn’t try hard to make a point. I don’t mind.
ACTORS AND THE BATON
Weird, but good intentioned.
THE EMERGENCY
Damn good. Perfect for a 1 min short.
WARPED
Known concept but doesn’t overexplain for the good.
ALIVE
Very nice, good editing. BGM is a little loud though the message is well conveyed.
SOME EVENINGS
Melodramatic, but we all have some of those evenings at times.
WELCOME TO THE GANG
Ha ha. Full points for the heavy hangover. Though the dialogs are not clear. Too bad.
5th WALL
Good No Smoking reference.
Sorry, but these were outright bad – HIDE & SEEK, SLATTERN, CHRISTINE.
EK PAL – pop philosophy, seems out of a bad music video.
DARAANA MANAA HAI – oops, I got scared.
CHECKMATE – I liked the concept of two annoying onlookers, they were damn funny too. Bad resolve though.
THE LAST MINUTE – nice anticlimax
FIRST LOVE – nice resolve, mellow, funny, very ad-like, something that works well in shorts.
DUET – Very nicely made, subtle, mellow, a fine film.
THE DISTURBANCE – nicely made, godo resolve.
SHOWER SCENE – Funny like hell!
LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT – good concept!
POUR – cluttered; Spanish feel, in terms of ‘overlap of fates’.
THE GAME – nicely done.
22nd STREET- Gokul Govindu, keep your handycam locked, I am coming for it!
CRAZY PRAKASH – supercool!
AN HOUR BEFORE – OK was that sad, or suicidal?!
PARANOIA – badly acted, well shot.
JAGO RE – well made, but not happening
BUGGED – wow, so smart!
MADE IN CHINA- nice symbolism, but chainsaw bits were overkill
DEAF – wtf!
SUPER BABLOO – not bad, but the teacher was so hot she was distracting!
CONNECTING LINES – OK, but what is A.K.S.?
ICE CREAM – gets my brownie points! Supercool.
YELLOW STREAK- nice, existential, very well acted.

i will try harder to scare you next time.

wow… wayyyy too many films… and my hats off to people who organised this, people who are sorting the list to comepetitive and open and the final judges… its getting tough now… though watched each one of the film, getting a little lost amongst things… though top my head thoughts.. (which basically means things that lingered with me… )
1. Safat Ali is there… his stories may leave no head or tail, his videos can be erratic…. but for sure he is there… no matter you can easily recognise his movies and for sure they are beautiful.. and pakka leave an impression on…
2. Aisle Seat productions have taken the position for the light hearted humor with such a bang that another equally hilarious ‘One’ called “Emergency” made me gothrough it again to see if I missed the “Aisle Seat Productions” tag on it… Emergency, hats off to you as well…
3. The Prisoner, saw it on the first day, still has a pretty huge impact on me, it was sadly disgusting… a very beautifulmix of emotions… I cant rememeber any other video which left me with 2-3 emotions at the same time in the one minute….
4. The babloo bachcha one minute humoursly and unfortuantely not without much of an impact, leaves a very strong message… my best to the makers… they picked up a topic and portrayed it well … you can only go up from here…
5. Blackmail to me was more or less a new wave of thinking, the kind of dangers that can happen (happens) … a thought process (the comparison maybe too high) thoda different like Minority report where in a dual living life in India where we do one thing and want to make sure nobody gets to know of it, can be explored to one’s benefits… brilliant concept…
6. Why I wake up late… another beautiful thought! the climax was awesome!!!
7. Yellow Streak had something that remains in my mind… the dualisteness of the character or something… the end wasnt satisfying, maybe it didnt need the last conversation, instead could ve been left as “just another day” kind of a deal.
8. Noissecer is something we ve heard for ages, still bloody evokes a smile if not a laugh, everytime, it did the same again …
9. Islam a struggle against perception was another one, not of high quality, thought about it a million times in the recent times, yet left the impact
10. Munni and Jasmine…. stays on …
11. The shower scene, was hilarious, reminding of psycho yet in the caricaturish way … I dont know if that was intended or I missed something, but i deifnately played on in the mind…
12. There was one, where the blind character shows where the candles are … not able to recollect the name… nicely done….
13. Time wrap again leaves an impact..
14. One movie which for me belongs to the ’so bad its good category’ that I saw it quite a few times and laughed my head out was “Suhaag Raat” … it was howlarious…. and all this in compliments… my best to the makers…
My feedback … on top of my mind ones… will pass on more once I re visit the shorts again…. though these were the top most thoughts I had….
Oz, I totally understand the sponsorship is necessary, but is there anyway that we can have those you tube videos on mute for at least the days when we have such events, you end up opening multiple pages of PFC and related and then search thru every single page up and down to search for this video and turn it mute….

##Our Future##
Good effort. Good concept.
You used so many shots in a minute!
Credit fonts were too small.
##Paranoia##
Good lighting.
The bearded guy acted very well.
##Bugged##
Excellent. Should have been in competition section.
Both the animations and the performances were excellent.
##Made in China##
Another one which SHOULD have been in the competition.
Best closing shot in this festival.
##An Hour Before##
Didn’t get the dialogue at the end.
##Blackmail##
Frightening. Good theme.
The cuts were not good in the conversation scene.
The girl should have been directed better.
The guy’s initial reaction to the photo could have been shot better.
##D Extreme Audio Fantasy##
Didn’t get it.
##Jago re##
Good one. Good sound effects.
Shots could have been better.
##Coincidence##
What was the point of those subtitles when he faints and falls?
This twist has been used in many other shorts in a better way, including Time Warp in this festival.
##Super Babloo##
Title design was excellent, but titles cannot be read ; )
Performances were good.
Expected a better punch in the climax.
##Swinebaba and the Two Thieves##
Good title.
Didn’t get the dialogues.
##Illusion of a Lonely Man##
Didn’t get it.
The bearded guy’s subtle expressions were good.
##Connecting Lines##
Good concept. It could have been presented in a clearer way.
Some shots, like the in the bus, were superb.

thanks shahul for commenting on ‘Blackmail’.
all the points duly noted.
the cuts looked good to me while editing, but when i saw it again some 4-5 days after submitting, i felt i had really gone overboard with the cuts. there were so many unnecessary cuts. :witsend:
acting of all the characters also felt off after multiple viewings. i will try and improve for the 4th PFCOne.

@sahul
thanx shahul for reviewing my movie ‘illusion of a lonly person’.it was about a person who due to extreme lonliness starts living life in illusion…consuming tata salt perciving it as drug…later he becoms happpy visualisin himself in a mirror as a person who is boyfreind of his lady love…
loading...
Thanks for the explanation. Watched the short again. The following changes would have helped to convey this plot better:
The initial shots should have conveyed his loneliness in a better way.
Instead of showing a separate close up of the salt packet, he could have been clearly shown taking the powder from the packet.
It is not conveyed that he sees the other guy in the mirror. Such a shot needs more technical expertise anyway.
The repeated shots of that female face on the paper is misleading.
You should establish that the lady in the photo is his lady love.
Did you try to indicate masturbation in between?
On second thoughts, I feel that, even if you got all these shots right and conveyed that plot clearly, still the movie won’t be any great as that plot does not much have power.

Hey guys,
Thanks for all your comments and inputs. This entire process was very rewarding and encouraging for someone like me who is hoping to pursue film making professionally.
To all those involved in the movie “Actors and the Baton” – DJ,Satsheel,Kazi…..thanks very much guys, could not have done it without you all. DJ you wrote a great script – I wish I could have done it justice the way it deserved.
To those involved in organizing this festival – A very BIG thank you. Really enjoyed the ride and most certainly have become a fan……
To all those who participated in this festival I loved watching how people with little or no knowledge of film-making were able to translate their vision to screen.
I may not have the license to comment on anyone’s work but I most certainly can say that through this festival – I learned something. And that is an education I prize dearly……..

Bagchi
I really liked your film.
It tells a story, a message & also the state of things around us without Hammering us with the Message. It was edited in a neat way.

Thanks moinky…really appreciate the encouragement….and yeah the nod to hitchcock was unintentional but I do understand what you are talking about…..thanks once again for your kind words……

JASMINE
Positives
What camera are you using? It looks great. You also belong to the minority here who knows how to frame a shot. The girl acted well.
Negatives
Boring. Another PSA. It was a bit heavy, esp the sad music making the film seem like a bit of cliche’.
CONNECTING PEOPLE
Positives
One of the best actors in this festival. Good dialogues esp
“Apni ku ektu Takiye phone ta kortey paren na?”
Good shots. Not over the top. Simple. Nice use of the “To Go” Coffee Cup
Negative
Predictable. After the very 1st dialogue I knew how it is gonna end.
But to give you credit It didnt bother me that much as other shorts have. Mainly because of Kakimoni’s fantastic acting.
THE LAST POST
Just that shot of her running makes it worth watching. But I also observed something interesting while watch your film for the 3rd time. Because you have such a beautiful shot that you used few times throughout the film, compared to that shot rest of the film looks very shabbily shot. Now I’m not saying they are all badly done. They are just decently shot in my opinion. Not great. But because of that one beautiful shot, it makes the rest look worse than they actually are.
Am I making sense Manu? I hope so. Also The shot of the Politician instructing with his finger was not needed. The next shot of him doing pranam while his window goes up should have been enough. It makes us think instead of being spoonfed.
Good effort considering the cliche’ subject you chose.
ACTORS & BATON
I loved everything about this film.
I also noticed your nod to Hitchcock’s ROPE
THE VISITOR
I agree with someone else who noticed a pattern with Safat’s obsession with Masks. This is Safat’s weakest film. I thought it was a bit boring. The music was just another standard over the top track.
EMERGENCY
Funny. Loved the music. Liked the split screen. Acting was great.
WARPED
Good Concept. Started badly. Didnt like how the shots were framed for the first 15 seconds. All the shots from the side could have been more tight.
Wish You had access to a better camera. Your concept needed good visuals.
The TV part was well done. Ended well.
MEGHNA
Like I said before, MEGHNA is a 1 min masterpiece.
Who is Shishir Jha? Is he a professional filmmaker?
Can the Real Mr Shishir Jha Please Stand Up?
WATER
Simple & Perfect.
I think majority of the filmmakers esp in Open Section can learn a lot by watching just MEGHNA & WATER. They are the best example of why Visuals are important. Its film. Not Radio….

@ Amit
Dude, being a big fan of art movies and having watched loads of ‘em thru d yrs , I think, u didn get d true meaning of d movie “ILLUSIONS- Of a lonely man”. In my opinion d director , Mr. Anurag tried to and I think quiet successfully portrayed d condition of a lonely man. The interesting part was that, when he started faking himself only, by consuming salt instead of drugs … He had begun to see himself as d person he wanted to be . Acctually he wanted to replace that guy to b close to d love of his lyf… and also how he used to pass his lonely time when he felt a bit excited.. Juz watch dis one again…
