Dev.D Music….
AK has done it again. He is back in the hot and happening discussion rooms everywhere with his upcoming film Dev.D. And whether you love him or hate him… you just can’t ignore him! This time he is back with mindboggling trailers and incredible music album.

The trailers and posters of Dev.D are raising curiosity day by day. I was excited to see the first theatrical trailer of the film and since then I have been impatiently waiting for the music and the film release. Finally, the wait for the music is over as the songs are now available to hook on to on the net. I would call the music of the film ‘aphrodisiac’. The more you listen, the more you get addicted and I got my dose of it after months. Amit Trivedi has repeated his magic after Aamir. He is definitely one of the most talented music composers in India.

I am still in love with ‘Mehfuz’ and ‘Chakkar Ghumyo’ from Aamir.

It is so difficult to pick one favorite from the whole album. During the shoot, Emotional (or rather Emosanal) Attyachaar was the favorite song of whole of the direction team. It has the true flavors of Indian marriages. Our good old brass band music and singing style is revived by this song in the era of DJs. The lyrics of the song is corny and slapstick. I love this particular way of looking at Dev’s ultimate tragedy! The shoot of the song itself was a lot fun. We got a new performer in our associate director, Nitin Chainpuri (it involved a lot of convincing by Anurag sir) and he looks awesome in the Presley get up. Another actor Nawaz was called to give him company and both of them simply rock! The song was shot in just one night (less than 5 hours- and the best night we had during the whole shoot) and was choreographed by Anurag sir.
Dhol yaara Dhol is a lovely romantic number. One can almost smell the green fields of a village in the music of the song. By the way, this is the only song which is choreographed by a professional and very talented choreographer from Delhi- Mansi.

Hikknaal and Mahi mainu are very Punjabi peppy numbers sung by Labh Janjua. Pardesi is definitely one of my favorites. It is such a fantastic blend of Indian and western music. Nayan Tarase and Saali Khushi are other beautiful songs that showing the angst of a jilted lover. Pardesi and Saali Khushi are performed by London based Twilight Brothers and the songs look splendid with their tremendous choreography.
Dil Mein Jaage, Yahi meri Zindagi and Ek Hulchul Si have a very fresh feel to them while Aankh Micholi is a sexy song. A ‘WOW’ to the unique way singing the philosophy of life! Paayaliya is another striking song with a melodious voice and gorgeous music.
The use of fresh and uniquely styled music composition is the strength of the album. None of the songs gives you the feel of repetition or boredom. The lyrics are very playfully written. The album is already popularizing the phrase ‘Emosanal Attyachaar’. I guess this is the only film album to use youth lingo (including the abuses) but it doesn’t seem like enforced. They all just fit in so much. I have always in love with the songs of the film and ‘bollywood hungama’ has revived my addiction. Perfect 10 for Amit Trivedi. If Aamir showed the promise in this talented music composer, Dev.D has raised the expectations even higher! Keep up the great work.

its great to hear a first-hand experience. Need more dope… more pix, more gyan…plz.
This album is a winner. I think there should be video for Emosional Atyachar- Rock version. One of the best hindi metal song ive ever heard. If Hiknaal was there in a Akki movie, by now he would have made it the most played song everywhere. A super bhangra track.
agree to the hilt, hadn’t heard such an amazing soundtrack in recent years!! i mean when I heards the song smthing inside me said ” F**K, its unbelieveble” , never heard in history of bollywod. My gut feeling says its a path-breaking composing and wud set new trends in bollywood !! and definitely credit should be give to Anurag, Amit trivedi and the lyricist (Amitabh Bhattachrya, correct me if i am wrong!!) too ,for coming up with so innovative , fresh (read blunt, abusive, coarse) lyrics, bravo!!i mean Hats off to the whole team of DEVD!!!
I guess Anurag’s vision is finally taking shape, wish all the luck !!
keep it coming, eagarly waiting to listen more from the team members, and it wud be an icing on the cake ,if Amit trivedi and amitabh cud join the party here on PFC.
DevD rocks!!!
Thanks for sharing, Prerna.
Who is this singer Shruti Pathak ? Paayaliya is one damn good song, quite different but very hitting!!!!!
Overall the album is very good but ‘emotional atyachar’( brass band version) didn’t live up to the expectations. First half of the song is good but second half was quite dull. I prefer the ‘rock version’ instead. I do feel that they should have combined both versions into one single song just liked it seemed to be in the trailers.
My top pick from the album would be ‘Nayan Tarse’
@Ravi K
Both the versions of the song have their proper place in the film which suits the situations. Just chill out till the movie release and you will find out why we have 2 such different versions of Emotional Attyachaar.
The rock version of EA is something I definitely dig more than the BB version, but the latter is so unique that one can’t help liking that too….with that slapstick singing style and lyrics.
Bony Chakravarty has done an excellent job in emoting while singing the two versions of EA.
@Ajay Shruti Pathak sang that haunting number – Mar Jawaan from Fashion, but beyond that have no clue about her.
Thanks Ajit, oh .. that was also a wonderful song..!! seems she has got a different voice and style!!
If there is one thing that came out very well so far from this effort called Dev D., that is – Anurag Kashyap has given a complete freedom to Amit Trivedi in creating music. From Anurag’s posts on his filmmaking, this freedom might pretty much be the thing he himself has been seeking. But it seems to have yielded some awesome results when he gave similar artistic liberty to his music director.
Anurag sir is a kind of person who highly respects creativity and creative people. As told by Anurag sir in his own blog, he has gladly acccepted all the songs by Amit Trivedi in the film without any change. This itself shows his respect for great work.
Besides music this creativity can be seen throughout the film also.
