Dhoom 2: Don’t Compare And Then Enjoy The Ride

Hi Folks,

Just got off the viewing for Dhoom 2. Was looking forward to this one. Not a particular fan of Abhishek or Hrithik, definitely not Uday and am indifferent to the fact that Biapsha and Ash are wearing bikinis, let’s just say, that ain’t the first time I seen folks in swimwear. But more the package deal and I like fast paced, entertaining movies.

The pace is a wee bit slower than the first one…oops I compare and probably John was a more intense bad guy than Hrithik….ok now that I have the comparision out of my system, let’s get on to the analysis. The energy level in the movie is high. The action sequences give an adrenaline rush, matter of fact picture the seqnence in AKS of AB and Manoj jumping off the waterfall and if that is your type of action there is plenty of that.

From an acting perspective, AB jr and Hrithik match up well agianst each other and wisely, Uday is used for effects, this shows maturity since he is family of the makers, but gives a competent underplayed performance which takes his “Ali” act well into the sequel. AB jr could have been a little more chilled out, I realize he plays a no nonsense cop, but should not play the constant sulking one. Although he complements it well in the end. Hrithik stands out amongst the men. He is the standard amongst the star sons and displays that.

This is the kind of Ash one would like to see, Ash acts like Sush in the movie, plenty of attitude, plenty of hutzpah and that suits her well. If she has the confidence in who she is, this movie gives her scope to show that. But Bipasha, is the actress amongst them and as far as the looks department go, she ain’t no second fiddle, but stands very firmly on her own.

The music moves the story along well, as does the use of Rio De Janeiro and Namibia. New locals, which blend in well with the story.

The big negative is that Dhoom 2 tries too hard to become a bigger and grander version of it’s original, therein lies it’s fault. It had the scope to be a good stand alone film and I don’t compare to the original, but the director and the writer certainly do. They movie almost has shades of a saleaman predicting a quarter to Wall Street, “the next one will be better, the next one better be better, I hope the next one is better, what can I do to make the next one better…”

Overall, though it does not dissapoint and does not have too many boring moments. There are surprises in store for the folks who wish to compare the two negative guys, John and Hrithik. Each plays his own self and that is the inherent strength of the film. All the actors are well toned and the crisp pace and bike sequences don’t leave much room for complaint.

A couple of scenes, like Hrithik playing Russian roulet do tend to slow it down, but with a backdrop as relaxed as Rio, can’t complain on this one.

Sincerely, Vivek “good time pass” Kumar

I just wonder why can’t we ever have atleast 1 heist sequence where one can’t drive a truck through the loop holes! This film definitely had the resources to do that, but I felt no one was bothered to raise the bar, heck if still makes money, why would you care to put in more work on the script! Guess that explains the attitude probably…

NO one can market a film like Yashraj productions can and No one can get Star of the highest galaxy like Yashraj can but looks like one think that it cant get is a Kickass script. Dhoom 2 is a case in point.
Abhishek, ASh, Bipasha, Uday chopra and Hrithik roshan in one film. sounds great..Locations like mumbai, namibia and rio de janerio sounds cool. death defying stunts and action sounds wonderful!! but same old story when it comes to the main thing. the film has no story.
But nonetheless the stars shine bright in the film [except for Aishwarya who is trying real hard to look sexy..take a leaf out of Bipasha's book girl..
but there is no denying that the film will be a hit and people will go crazy watching Abhisheks rugged looks, Uday chopras comedy and Hrithik roshan's wonderful stunt sequences and brilliant dancing as well as of course see Bips and ASh in a bikini [again Bips scores way over ASh]
just wish they wud have worked a lil bit more on the script and made it tighter but who cares for the script when you have the stars shining bright in Dhoom 2 right?? and by the way there is no John ABraham in the film. and yeah this is a hrithik roshan film more than an Abhishek bachchan film.
which is better Dhoom 1 or dhoom 2?? i prefer dhoom 1 but u can take your pic.
in short a wham bam thank you man film..

    cheerz

finally saw Dhoom II, in a run down place full of exhilerated audience I guess the perfect place for watching the film.
the film starts very weak, it only picks up once the proceedings shift to Rio(after the song-my name is ali, done almost like a Humko tumse ho gaya hai pyaar from amar akbar anthony). from then the director leaves no opportunity of using star power to the max, and thats a wise thing to do(example- SRK in Don).
in spite of some very mediocre sequences(even hilarious- how can the security guards not see a ‘gigantuan’ diamond-stealer- i dont know what they call it, m not Mr. A!), some almost comical I LOVE YOU routines, a low on IQ state of chor-police affairs, Dhoom 2 gets than wow emotion in the end, and I dont complain much if the film makes me wanna do a vrrroom vrrrooom dhoom jig on my bike on my way back home :)

the songs are rather good than mentioned all across.
the sequences with AB n HR are the best. could have had more of that mindgame stuff, its better than the stupid diamond chori’s.

bring on more dhooms, m not complaining, but please , some more evil n sex!
