Dil Bole Hadippa: Khoob ladee mardanee Rani but…
Rk | Review | September 24, 2009 at 1:32 am

“From woman man is born; within woman man is conceived; to woman he is engaged and married; women becomes his friend; when his women dies, he seeks another woman; to woman he is bound. So why call her bad? From her kings are born. Without woman there would be no one at all”. (Guru Nanak)
That was said by Sikh Guru but in reality today’s Punjab suffers most alarmingly by the male-female ratio and Chandigarh has the worst record in sex ratio in whole of the nation.
Though almost whole of India suffers from SON-MANIA but Punjab faces some serious discrimination against women. Economical, social, political and cultural, there can be many reasons behind facts that less rights are given to women. Weird stories come from NRI sectors also. Deepa Mehta’s Heaven on Earth showed glimpses into this world of discrimination. In terms of female foeticide situations had become so serious that Akal Takht had issued the edict to reform the situations.
In DBH, Veera (Rani Mukherjee) wants to enter the stadium where selection of cricket team has to be done. Watchman not only stops her at the gate but scolds also her for thinking of playing the Cricket. At that moment few people pass from there carrying the statue of Goddess and chanting Jai Mata Di. Watchman folds his hands and bows down his head to pay respect and reverence to the statue of the Goddess.
A visibly hurt Veera says,” Jiski moorti banake poojte ho use hee insaan banakar kuchalte ho”.
Sahir Ludhianvi had penned the lines “Aurat ne janam diya mardon ko, mardon ne use bazaar diya”.
Poet and writer Jai Shankar Prasad had written
” Nari tum keval Shradha ho”
Another poet Maithili Sharan Gupta had written
“Abla jeevan hai tumhari yehi kahani, Aanchal mein hai dudh aur aankhon mein paani”
In such a social scenario DBH could have created so many interesting events around the life of Veera but sadly it remains very superficial.
Biggest drawback of DBH is that it comes neither as a sensitive film, covering a very serious issue related to women nor like a film which could give competition to Govinda’s comedy films.
As Veera Rani did not have much to do but as a man, Rani has played very well but still she did not have challenging events around her character so that her hard efforts could have shined more. Barring Geeta Bali’s act in a male get up in Anand Math, Rani surpasses all the actresses ever played a man in the hindi films. Rani’s male incarnation is comparatively better than the female incarnations of male actors of hindi films but her hard work gets no support from everything else present in the film. She was simply great in the scene where Veera (as Veer singh) joins Rohan on the field in the match and hits a six. S/he looks at Rohan under the hope that s/he will get recognition from him but s/he does not find it.
She delivered many good moments where she played her male version in a cartoonish manner. She got right diction, right postures and carefree attitude. But flowers or fruits could not be flourished on this plant of her hard efforts because whole of the field surrounding this plant remained almost barren in nature.
A conflict was missing from the film. Rani in the get up of a male is an interesting idea because she can live up to the promise of playing this part with a lot of conviction and ability and she has proved it but what next? She needs great events around her male incarnation to create superb dramatic effect on screen. Content wise film had nothing great to offer.
India had lost five wickets for 17 runs in the match against Zimbabwe in world cup of 1983. Captain Kapil Dev was down with fever but he came to play in the field and he played so well that he won the match single handedly. Sadly there is no video recording available of that marathon task performed by Kapil Dev.
Indian Cricket is filled with such tales some of which have gained mythological status. India is a country where cricket is religiously followed by millions and millions of people. India and Pakistan have been traditional enemies on the ground of cricket.
In such a scenario, if game of cricket is covered by a film then audiences need great tales to see. Was it necessary to keep the angle of teams of two friends separated by Redcliffe line? India Pakistan angle needed much more content in the progress of the story but everything has been handled in an easy manner.
Anupam Kher and Dilip Tahil could be owners of two different teams of India also.
Film was dependent on the thrill produced by competitive match only as romantic and comedy angles were very weak and that cricket related thrill was not strong and exciting enough to give the adventurous pleasure to the audience.
It may be a wrong impression but it seems that unlike a comparatively new production house which has different strategies for low and high budget films and it does not arrange for world wide release for its low budget films, YRF and Dharma productions actually release their films everywhere in the world and it does not matter for these production houses whether an outsider has directed the film. They market it very well.
With difficulty one gets a chance to direct a film for Yash Raj Films , where one gets good production facilities, but this opportunity has not been exploited properly in DBH.

@RK
You lost this time ‘uh’s post on DBH is hogging the all limelight !!
Ohh My God. What a loss
” Watchman not only stops her at the gate but scolds also her for thinking of playing the Cricket”
Struck me as odd, now whatever be the sex ratio thing and all, i do know that quite a lot of Indian sportswomen hail from Punjab, including most of the hockey players, don’t think in a state with such a sporting culture, any 1 would have stopped Rani from entering the stadium. Like i told ya, the movie was just not honest.
Bend it Like Beckham was a truly honest attempt capturing the discrimination girls face in Punjabi families, when they try to go for a sports career. DBH comes nowhere close.
Watchman would not haved stopped Veera if inside the stadium all girls team was to be selected.
..
Sex ratio thing is about general social scenario that prevails there. Rural areas may reveal many things.
If you search you may find many social studies done on these things.
…
It is about mentality. There are few film stars and in general they are good humanbeings but they have different rules for their heroines and other actresses and women of their own families (wives, sisters and daughters). And they have been living in Bombay for decades. They may work in socially liberated films but basically roots define and control the thinking.
Their daughters should marry as soon as possible and settle down as homely women.
and different stories of sons and daughters of powerful people of the state will throw much more light. Newspapers of last 10 years only will be enough to show general scenario.
” Bend it Like Beckham ” That is right. when something is already shown then new film has to go beyond that.
People have seen strugle of a woman to earn a recognition in Men’s world in a better way in Udan, TV serial of Kavita Chaudhary.
Vaguely remember watching Udaan with parents. Would like to watch it again if available.
It was based on the life of her elder sister
Kanchan Chaudhary ( now Bhattacharya), who later married to IAS officer(played by Shekhar Kapur in the serial). She has served for few years at Dehradun also.
Check RajShri if it is available there. Otherwise DD might have released it on DVD. Check their website.
Remember Kavita Chaudhary from her Surf ads.
Udaan not on DVDs I think.
jai ho…RKji..Udaan ka naam lekar aapne mera din bana diya…
Kya inspiration thi us serial me…and Kavita Chaudhary did a fantastic job too and her dad was a phenomenal actor too.
I applaud Rani for doing a good job of whatever was offered to her. NO mainstream HIndi actress other than Madhuri or Sri could have done a better job.
That female who was Rani’s sis in Saathiya could have pulled it off pretty well.
Ash,Priyanka and Kareena the chusy hui aam ki gutly are so darn over-rated.
Film me dum nahi tha…
SRK and Rani did a fab job in Paheli but that bombed despite Palekar,Gulzar and MMKreem for its music…and Naseerji’s voice over.
Imtiaz got the audience with Jab we met but “Love aaj akl” was shit despite all the twists ….
Deepika cannot act at all..Saif was annoying
Kavita Chaudhary’s father’s role was played by vikram Gokhle, though he was not that old at that time to play such a role.
.
…
So many ideas are flowing in this comment of yours that it may be pointed out that perhaps this is high time to start writing articles
I agree with you about deepika, she is just way too over rated. I didnt liked her in OSO, Bachna ae Haseeno and Love Aaj Kal. she can hardly speak her dialouges.
The girl in Sathiya was Sandhya Mridul. she has acted superbly in “waisa bhi hota hai – part 2″
sandhya Mridul puts up a spirited performance indeed. But she is not attractive enough to attract good directors for meatier roles…
Why does a Gowarikar use Priyanka to make a Whats ur Rashee ?? when he is clearly talking about a performance oriented actress ???
Who is he kidding…
same for Rituparno (Ash as Binodini) or Mani Ratnam (the Guru role)…These guys help keep vicious cycle (dum, pretty super model will eventually bag meatier role) ….
Ill wager Konkona’s chances without the “Sen” surname…
and same applies to Soha
Why are Diyva Dutta and Shefali Shah still on the sidelines and getting maa-behen roles???
Seema Biswas will keep playing the “gareeb achoot aurat” for the rest of her life …
and Kareena and Ash will make headlines for wearing no make up in their next movie ….like that can remotely increase their acting quotient !!!
“Why does a Gowarikar use Priyanka to make a Whats ur Rashee ?? when he is clearly talking about a performance oriented actress ???”
U heard of that saying “Land of Blind Men, One Eyed Jack is the King”.
Well said sirji. Agreed.
Also Ash’s career wouldn’t have survived without Bachchan tag. See what is happening to Rani, Preeti. And they all started career almost at the same time.
Aishwarya kaafi chalaak nikli. She got a henpicked husband and a long stay in industry.
Ek teer se do shikaar.
ha ha ha ha
ha ha ha ha
Aish ki chaalaki …..
got 3 men in deal
Big B
Jr B
and
A. Singh
That too after ruining Viveik’s career and dumping Salman.
ladki kyon
na jaane kyon
aisi he hoti hai :(
Yaar not a fan of Ash, but not sure how she was responsible for screwing up Vivek’s career. That guy screwed up his career himself, with his own “egoistic” attitude and lousy choice of movies.
maybe a on a lil serious-er note… Vivek and Abhishek never had a career… they were beginning then… Vivek toh still is okay AB jr never had any … so for certain liberalities, these people are still amongst media ke known faces due to Ash…wrt to Ash and her marriage, at a peak of position where insecurity can kill you, she did what could keep her the most secure … join the biggest family (beta bura bhi nahi hai boss…) and Salman … its his good human thing which has caused issues… look at all his girls, they ve all been women from outside the fraternity… who possibly were insecure and needed support when they started… and lo Salman was there always trying to hold them… I guess each time problem happened when these actresses started getting bigger and wanted to have their own hand in things and not micro management, and egos clashed (maybe even with SRK the same bond happnened)… nobody’s fault… but guess Salman needs to start being a person than an extreme.. philanthophist or psycho, to get to being normal society animal like the media hogging other celebrities…. lekin yahi toh salman ka woh charm hai which has kept him as the media’s favorite…
@Yaatri
pata nahi yaar mera aaj tak kisi ladki se paala he nahi pada hai
But what I know is that in animal kingdom female species is always the chooser and males are the competitors. So it is the woman who controls the large part of a relationship.
@PS
I agree exactly what I think about the whole situation.
Hi Yaatri,
How do you know that? making fun of LADY is not a good thing especially in case of Ash, She brought proud to india. And I also think she is one of the best talented and professional actress we had.
Vivek and Salman were making fun of themselves just because they thought one or two sentences which Ash talked to them was becuse of love. Cant she even have a friendship? I think she and Kareena are far better than many actresses we have, including your so called Divya dutta and Sens. In case of Priyanka I agree, her 12 roles in WYR is just like she wearing 12 diff dresses
Please dont call Ash talented. !!!
ur insulting the word “talent”
Madhuri Dixit is talented …
Divya Dutta has far more talent that all these beuty queens put together.
@darkndusky.
You said it right IMO. I dont have any other favourite actor in Holly or Bolly except Madhuri.
Divya Dutta is talented than beauty qeens. People are praising Priyanka in What’s your Rashee. I watched it today and among 12 roles in most of them she looks the same Priyanka. You can’t tell much difference if there are no basic traits (in the screenplay itself) to identify the character.
Abla jeevan hai tumhari yehi kahani, Aanchal mein hai dudh aur aankhon mein paani
I’ve always known that these lines are written by rashtrakavi Maithili Sharan Gupta. I even remember while writing a short biography on him I wrote these lines in exams too.
.
The Punjabi culture becoming a popular culture with increasing dominance and on the other hand this depleting sex ratio present an alarming situation. And if a general social scenario that prevails there then I fear that this may become the thinking in other parts too. This is same Punjab that gives masculine name to the daughters.
Its prevalent in Andhra Pradesh now, not to a very large extent, but spreading slowly. Actually the after effects are already being felt, in Haryana, people are bringing in brides from Jharkhand, Orissa, due to the skewed sex ratio.
And its also common custom to share a wife to keep the property from dividing up ….In UP too these shared marriages are prevalent.
In the South GIrls marry maternal uncles and cousins for same reason ….its culturally approved too.
Parsis are reeling from these problems too as their numbers are too low .
Sharing wife as a custom ?- where in UP ?
Marriage with neice, maternal uncle: I guess it is allowed in some parts of Kerala.
Among film personalities, S Ray married his cousin (Daughter of his maternal uncle).
Perhaps Vijay Anand’s first marriage was also such a case.
oops…I meant that under dire cicumstances families allow such wife sharing in some families…Believe me I know 1 family personally on my husband’s side…I was retching after I came to know about it.
What I want to say is Society would rather allow these nearly- incest like behaviour to occur rather than come up with other solutions. Poverty, lack of education are of course prime reasons.
@Swa(r)thy
common custom?in UP? No wonder I havent heard of it.
There may be some cases but they are not common.
@Jahanpanah,
Thanks. Copy paste from notepad ate line from Jai Shankar Prasad’s poem and following line. Correcting it. Thanks again.
Many reasons are there. Situations of last 35-40 years demand deep studies.
Even most librated and modern city produces so much contrast. With so much wealth and so many facilities around one does not expect rigid, regressive and often objectionable behaviour towards women.
But it happens. Evils enter fast in a system but their exit rate is always very slow and it always needs a great movement to reform the rotten system.
“Biggest drawback of DBH is that it comes neither as a sensitive film, covering a very serious issue related to women nor like a film which could give competition to Govinda’s comedy films.”
Very well said.
I too felt the movie had great comedy potential to use the male disguise part to create hilarious moments, but it went to become a boring melodrama.
Actually thats been the major problem with most of the recent YRF movies, they neither cater to the single screen audiences nor to the more discerning audiences, and the result is that they end up in a kind of No Man’s Land.
Sometimes An actor’s good efforts are sidelined because director had less vision about the overall project/product.
Rani’s case here is something like few songs of RDB, which took so much time to gain recognition because they were used in lower quality films.
yaaaaawnn..
But this line was superb : But flowers or fruits could not be flourished on this plant of her hard efforts because whole of the field surrounding this plant remained almost barren in nature.
Abhishek,
Lucky you. You got something.
A wrong click of mouse started a travelling in your land of thoughts and before I could come back here, a line was flashing there where you mention, Raincoat was a remake of Ray’s Agantuk. How come? Is it a different Raincoat than Aish, Ajay Devgan starrer?
If it is same, have not you seen Agantuk and have quoted something mentioned by somebodyelse who quoted somebodyelse’s idea?
Yawning in these bharpur youthful days?
You need some Cinkara or Kesari Jeevan type material to make mind alert. In next comment.
Here you may read some stuff to repel Susti Bhara alam.
…
A stalwart propagator of communism was giving leader of other nation instructions in practical communism. “Comrade,” he said, “how would you make a cat eat chili pepper?”
“There are two ways,” said other leader. “I could force it down him or I could stuff a fish with the pepper and give the fish to the cat.”
“Wrong,” replied stalwart leader. “It is not compatible with our ideology. The first method is coercion, the second deception. You know we never coerce or deceive the people.”
“Then how would you do it?” asked other leader.
“I would rub the pepper on the cat’s tail. When this started to smart, the cat would turn around and lick its tail, thus eating the pepper voluntarily.”
Abhishek
” Nari tum keval Shradha ho”
No wonder these lines are considered to be the lines of Baba Adam.
perhaps yes. Now format of Naari decides.
One truth has been written by Raghuvir Sahay also.
Also categorizing them as rapchick ‘maal’, behenji or aunty types, automatically kills the respect.
.
Suggested reading by Raghuvir Sahay?
Ask for his book of Representative poems. This should be easily available in your library else at book shops selling hindi literature it should be found easily.

Alysha!! O my darling!!
I am deeply disappointed not to find Alysha here in this post !! :P
Looks like Alysha has gained cult status on PFC.
She is the lone warrior supporting YRF!!
We need to track down ip address and location of Alysha. I am afraid if she happens to be Rani only :D
I’m afraid. Such addressing is getting sexist and personal touch.
So if one has liked/disliked the film, s/he is not allowed to put up the personal views and s/he should be ridiculed and provoked continuously by the crowd, using PFC’s platform?
Today it is somebody else, tomorrow It will be me and day after tomorrow it may be you?
How it is justified?
Rk, I don’t know if your comment was on my behalf but l’ll assume it was and that it was a genuine one. Don’t worry, Their comments don’t bother me, I’m a big girl, I can take it.
If I were to meet some of you in person I could do even better. I only “cower” when confronted by “greater intellect” and then I am awe-struck. It hasn’t happened too often yet!
I won’t say anything about your review because I think I’ve made my feelings pretty clear. To add anything more would be to repeat myself and I don’t want to bore myself.
Let’s just say DBH entertained me well. I got my money’s worth. To analize it would be foolish on my part, because I knew what I was in for and that’s what I went for. I was not looking for a mensa style enigma. For that I go else where.
@ Alysha… thank you … for that comment of yours… thats all that eveyrbody was expecting…. talking in a general way… like an opinion than a fight… agreed when you entered this forum you might have felt why are people so one sided… so did I when I entered (I had entered seeing people bashing Sajid Khan and applauding Ashutosh Gawarikar…) however I wasn’t here to pick up an arguement but see how and why people would be doing it, only to realise everybody in here was doing the same, putting up their points and seeing what the others have to say … if you get a chance to read through the blogs, there are a lot of democratic postings.. which agreed get bashed at times, but all in the spirit of discussion …. personally I had no issues with what you had written till the “religious consipracy” came into picture… after all of the comments and arguemnet u made, which were pretty storng in terms of your conviction with things… this one was so juvenile that I could just picture you as an 8 year old after that… the kinds who conjure up some reasons of thin air for things however wierd it can be… thankfully people laughed it over or crushed it than allow PFC to be a Mid Day or rediff which thrive on speculations…. rest assured, if you stay in this site for long, you d realise that people here make digs or support topics or subjects and not people… something good from your side might see you gaining mutually agreeing supporters… your last para in the last response from you, was all that it would ve taken and you would ve seen that agreeing folks would have responded to you … bygones be bygones … take care!
Thanks for the comment.
on your behalf?
No!
Few dialogues can be done with the regular contributors only.
True, Mensa members don’t do foolish things.
When they are entertained and they get happeiness, they spread it all around. Being Mensa members they are free from religious, racial kind of discriminations. They dont promote such ideas!
Being highly intelligent people they certainly don’t keep an attitude (I liked it/I did not like it and to hell with all kind of different views.)
…
Though there may be few authors on PFC also who ask opinion of readers on their articles, but I guess majority of authors dont ask for such things.
Though thoughts on Films, movies, cinema are always welcomed.
well said rk. we dont have to ridicule those who dont agree with us. it only shows our intolerance.
@Jahanpanah,
Udan – Search Search Search and you will get it.
BTW yeh match hota hamehsa pind mei hi tha? visa approvals toh badi jaldi ho jaata tha… audience aur players ka… amazing…
Sherlyn ko bhi shorts aur bra me koi sharam nahi aayi….And why did she need a tan lotion..She was browner than mother earth…
I guess Sun tan aur sun screen me difference nahi maaloom….I liked rani’s dialogue…
Anybody notice she had ASH’s outfit from Dhoom?? white mini blue bra..
“ye doodh malaai undar nahi honi chahiye”
“Jinne oonche log unne chote kapde” ityadi
@darkndusky
Sharam , ye word sherlyn aur rakhi jaise logon ki dictionary mein nahi hai
They also must have bought the dictionary from the same shop who sold the defective
dictionary to Rohan a.k.a Shahid Kapoor
pata nahi…..
sabhi ladkiyaan line se kapde uttaari chali jaa rahin hain…
It isnt classy when Kareena/Bipasha/Priyanka dons a bikini either .
Whats next???
Indian males will start demanding for girls’ pictures in bikini now while approaching marriage age…
Woh din jyaada door nahi hai ??
This thing of shedding clothes came in the 90s. I guess after the economic liberation. As a child, I would feel so embarrassed while watching the music programs on TV with my family.
Now the things have changed. Dont you see?
It’s time when males have started doing the same. Else why making this dole-shole and 6 packs have become so prevalent and the sissies like Ranbir Kapoor have started their career by dancing in towels.
As sir puts it, Sooraj badjatya realised it much earlier with Hai Ram kudiyon ka hai zamaana
Problem is not with the shedding of clothes or the bikinis or the 6-12 packs, the problem is they have become the focus. Movies nowadays seem like Fashion TV+ Discovery Travel & Living+National Geographic, and things like performances, emoting, expressions what is that???
These things get more attention because the traditional social structure of India. Which may again be the hangover of Islamic rule and Victorian era British rule. But again somebody may argue isn’t the things are changing because they are pushing the boundaries? Well I dont have an opinion in this.
@darkndusky
and you know , girl will give the guy a link to his MMS !! :P
not just ash’s clothes from dhoom, if you see the remix video, Shahid Kapoor is wearing the almost same clothes as Hrithik as wearing when Dhoom2 the song begins, Rani is given a whole sequesnce similar to crazy kiya re dance steps, when she is suposed to be standing a sideways and do the eyes ka talk … YRF… they get one hit and then they just keep re doing it over an over to kill it completely…
Jahanpanah,
Since Rati dies all of a sudden in the begining of the film so may not suit Phir Kabhi but may suit Saransh perfectly well, after the phase when Anupam Kher and Rohini H, get to know about death of their son but before the problem of Soni Rajdan is introduced and Anupam K gets a mission to live on. There are scenes also where Anupam K tries to commit suicide and both of them talk about death and fear of being left alone.
Havent watched Phir Kabhi. :/
Perfectly suits? I beg to differ on this.
In the poem it is depicted that one is actually concerned by the loneliness when other will leave him/her and this is mutual for both. these lines do not present the other factors in these lines so I assume it is purely said due to mutual love. Poem also expresses fear that the parting will be without the knowledge of the other.
In Saransh if I remember correctly, then Anupam Kher wanted to commit suicide on his own and even attempted few times. He wasn’t concerned about Rohini H but she wasn’t ready to leave him not merely for her love of Anupam K but for the fear that her life will have no meaning then. And they are parting in the knowledge of the other one.The poem may suit from the POV of Rohini H but not from the POV of Anupam K.
.
The movie has probably one of the longest running scene and dialogue on people planning to commit suicide.
Jahanpanah,
“May suit perfectly well” meant moments could be created around this poem in such a film becuase an old couple is suffering from many difficulties there and they are dependent on each other for every moment of life remaing with them, each of them is support system of other. Phir Kabhi like film where a person is died in the very begining does not leave much space for such a thing except a flexibility to use a flashback where they might have passed through such moments when one of the parters might have said such a thing.
…
Saaransh is a complete film in its own. Given the milieu of the film, moments could be created to use the poem. Poem can not be inserted in the present format as a readymade thing.
Re. suicide it tries to create a discussion as it is discussed at many points. In the park Anupam Kher’s friend reminds him that when his wife had died some 2 decades ago then Anupam K had given him hopes. Now when he is facing the heat of thye death of his only son, he himself is losing hope and faith in living the life.
Anupam K says, and he says it with an energy as if questioning the authority of God, Nature or any kind of power over human life, to Rohini H,” One needs a great courage to take his own life. I deny to give this authority to life that it can show me ugly faces, it can insult me at every step, I want freedom to decide….”
After asking Anupam K if he thought about her while trying to commit suicide, Rohini H says to him that she will also accompany him in this suicide mission but only after breaking her fast. When AK gives her poison she says that he should take care of her wish that she always wanted to die as a suhagan.
So that way like many women she also fears of being left alone.
Yup. Moments can be created there but then there are other films too where such moments can be created.
On the whole Anupam K acted cowardly by trying to commit suicide not thinking of Rohini H.
Not so simple. Weak moments come but they go also.
Same Mr Pradhan stands against the might of a corrupt and powerful politician and his army of goons.
Complex graph of characters- that is the beauty of the film.
His two attempts can not be seen in isolation without associating his thinking and dialogues with Rohini H.
Disillusionment has to be understood.
His two acts are negated to some extent with his dialogue with Rohini. The redemption of his character is later.
Agree. These are the things that make the movie quite brilliant.
Phir Kabhi was like fast food. !!! Pet bhara par dard bhi hua ….
Content was good but the Mithun’s performance fell short somewhere..wasnt convincing enough….The youth track was disastrous and the 20-something fella was atrocious……
Couldnt help but recall Virudhh(Bachhan and Sharmila ) for the chemistry and performances.
The seniors of Khosla ka Ghosla were also very endearing….Nagpal and Kher ji in particular.
And since it is a film, twist is in his very first attempt on road he comes before the car of Neelu Phule. Little he knew then that he and his wife really would face killing attempts on their lives by this man only and his goons.
The 2 Posts on DBH have got around 250+ comments together, looks like the movie is a bigger hit on PFC, than outside.
heh! Indeed.
The topic of women disguising as men reminds me of a wonderful movie that i saw recently called “Offside”. Its an iranian movie where a bunch of girls try to disguise as men to watch the World cup qualifier match (I forget which year)which Iran eventually won to qualify for the World Cup. Iran did not allow its women to watch Football in stadiums.
A wonderfully acted movie with subdued and subtle emotions, the never attempts to make any judgements or gender statments. Watch it for its brilliant charecterization and a very moving ending.
