Disco Dancer-Prabhu Leela ki Jai Ho
Ratnakar Sadasyula | Movies, Review | September 30, 2009 at 7:41 am
There are movies, then there are movies of “Prabhuji” and then there is Disco Dancer. If i ever had to pick one movie of Mithun Da, that signified his transition from a mere actor to the cult godly ”Prabhu Jee” status, it has to be this. Disco Dancer was released in December 1982 to considerably less hype and not much expectations. Amitabh Bachan was still the Shahenshah, with Namak Halaal, Khuddar, Satte Pe Satta, all rocking the box office, though the clash of titans between AB and his idol Dilip Kumar , Shakti , one of AB’s best IMO, underperformed at the box office. Mithun was not yet in the big league, seen more as a “poor man’s Amitabh”, but he created a kind of niche image Gunmaster G-9 image of his own with movies like Suraksha, Saahas, Wardaat at the same time working in other genres like rom com( Shaukeen), social dramas( Hum Paanch), thriller flicks( Dhuan). Director B. Subash had a couple of rather forgettable flicks prior to this, and the heroine Kim was one of those numerous 80’s starlets, seen in side appearances. And while Disco songs were popular in the 80’s, i still recall Bappi’s “Disco Station” in Hathkadi, not many were willing to put their bets on a movie that seemed to revolve entirely around “Disco”.
When Disco Dancer was released at fag end of 1982, i was around 13, a High School in Vizag, a port city down South, where the only Hindi movies that ran well were those of Amitabh Bachan. Neither did the stills of the movie look anything great at all, and not many were really willing to give it a chance. It seemed to end up the way most Hindi movies, usually did in my place, run for a couple of weeks, and then get shifted to some other seedy theater. The initial talk was nothing too great, though the songs had become popular. And then it started. Slowly people started to like the movie, no actually not just like it, they went crazy over it. Every scene in the movie began to be discussed, i knew friends of mine who knew not one word of Hindi, and yet they saw this more than a dozen times.

The movie became one of the very few Hindi movies that ran for more than 100 days in Vizag. But more than the numbers and records, it was the fact that Disco Dancer became a kind of cult phenomenon. It cut across all barriers of class, caste, religion, race to become a universal favorite. There was my friend, convent educated, who mostly watched Hollywood flicks, ended up watching this movie 20 times, and knew the songs of this by heart. At other end, there was my servant, who knew not a single word of Hindi, but who would religiously, watch this movie, whenever he could. The songs of this movie became the first choice of those who were eager to show off their singing skills or dancing skills during school functions, and Mithun Da’s hairstyle became the next in demand across saloons. Conversations in school inevitably began with “Have you seen Disco Dancer?”, and if you happened to say no, you would get the kind of look, making you feel you had just landed on Planet Earth straight from Mars. “I am a Disco Dancer” blared out from every wedding, pandal, shop, saloon, public gathering fair. “A for Apple, B for Ball, C for Cat” was passe, first time came across a new alphabet
D se hota hai Dance
I se hota hai Item
S se hota hai Singer
C se hota hai Chorus
O se Orchestra.
Now while schools did not officially switch to the above alphabet, school kids all over began to take to it.
Disco Dancer with our Kaka Jee( Rajesh Khanna), singing on the streets of Bombay, along with the little kid Anil, “Goron Ki Na Kaalon Ke, Duniya hai Dilwalon Ke,Has ke Jiye, Has Ke Mare”. Basically that was the first time i had heard of that “Pewwww” sound, yeah i mean thats the only way i can describe that sound, patented by the patron Saint of Indian Dishko Music, Swami Bappidananda Maharaj. Actually credit should be given to Swami Bappidananda Jee for patenting the exclusive formula for Indian Dishko music, it would be something like a lot of “Pewwws”, and noises going “Turiya, turiya, turiya” or ”Kuriya” or “Puriya” in background, and on screen something like big strobe lights, babes in satin shorts or mini skirts, all engaged in some kind of rythmic gymnastic exercise that was yet to be invented, and in midst of it our own “Prabhujee”. As ”Prabhujee Jr” and his dear Momma continue to play on the streets of Mumbai for their ”Do Waqt ki Roti”, a sweet, young rich girl likes the “Pewww” ”Pewwww” sound and invites Junior to sing again. Its a mystery though how with just a drums, the “Pew” sound still manages to come out, but then again i guess such are the wonders of “Prabhu Leela”.
Anyway little girl’s rich Daddy, Oberoi( Om Shivpuri) is not amused with all those “Pewwwwww” sounds, and the funda of “Duniya Dilwalon Ke”, when it actually should belong to “Daulat Wallas” like him. Also i wonder why the bad rich guys in Hindi movies are always Oberois, Singhanias, Singhals only? Anyway now it is apparent, that since Oberoi is the Daulat Walla, since he is Om Shivpuri, he can’t be a Dil Walla, but more than that he turns out to be a real Kaminey. In order to teach the Mom-Son duo for disturbing his peace with all the “Pewwwwww” sounds, he frames them for the theft of a plastic toy guitar no less. Ah the Maa- Beta angle, now while Hindi movie Maa’s always care for their beta’s, the Maa here actually takes the “Ma Ke Haath Ka Khaana” saying literally, hand feeding him as a kid, and even in prison. But then “Maa Ke haath Ka Khaana” still continues even when Prabhujee is 18, and during a party, in front of the heroine, again its ”Maa Ke Haath Ka Khaana”. Sigh, and to think that my Mom was always asking me to grow up and eat properly with hands, life is not just fair. To get a better update of the “Maa Ke Haath Ka Khaana” funda, check this here.

Anyway after comming back from prison, cries of ”Maa Chor, beta Chor” are heard, and Maa-Beta decide to leave big, bad, wicked, heartless Bombay for Goa. Not a bad deal, considering that ”Prabhu Jee” has fun doing what he likes( singing and dancing), getting paid for it, and yeah his “Maa Ke Haath ka Khaana” as a big bonus, seriously what would any of us not do for such a life. So ”Prabhujee” is enjoying a happy life in lovely Goa, singing wedding songs, even serenading a fat woman who has married a midget. And all the other time, he practices “Disco Dancing” in Ekalavya style, this time his “Guru Drona” being a poster of “John Travolta” in the famous ”Saturday Night Fever” pose, a poster that often sold like hot cakes, during that time. Thankfully though, Travolta has never seen Disco Dancer, had he seen it, one does not know what kind of Guru Dakshina he would expect.
On the other side of town, in Big Bad Bombay, the Bad Rich Man’s kiddos too have grown up. The sweet, young girl is now a hot pants wearing snooty, snobbish miss, Ritu( Kim), but its Bad Rich Man’s son Sam( Karan Razdan) who is now the reigning ”Disco Champ”. Karan who? Well he was the guy who played Priya Tendulkar’s husband in Rajni, and of late has come out with some masterpieces in the ”Soft Porn sleaze” genre, like Girlfriend, Oops to name a few. So our desi ”Rock Disco star”, jives to the sounds of “Koi Yahan Aaha Naache, Naache”( yeah I know its inspired from “Video Killed the Radio Star”, but leave that for another day). Actually it’s hard to decide which is worse, Sam’s dancing that looks like a cross between a totally sloshed out guy lumbering on the street and some one suffering from a bad ear infection. But if we are to believe that Sam is indeed India’s version of ”John Travolta”, what is worse is asking us to believe that he is the kinda guy over whom ladies go crazy, to the extent that two women keep following him for autographs, and then add to it, he manages to get a babe into his sack every night. It is at such times of Ghor Kalyug, that one raises a prayer for “Prabhujee”. Anyway see this to believe it.
Sam’s manager David Brown( Om Puri), is clearly not amused, can’t blame him, considering any 1 would be pissed off seeing Karan Razdan ”dance” and then on top of it, watch him snuggle out with every available female on the couch. When Sam is furious with David for interrupting one of his ”couch snogging” sessions, and blows at him, he walks out vowing to find a new star. Aah the moment which all “Prabhujee” fans have been waiting for. And it comes when David sees ”Prabhujee” dancing under the Goa street lights, blinking like a disco lights. Actually something i generally noticed in some of the notable ”Dishko” songs of the 80’s, hero dancing on the street, and street lights glowing like some kind of strobes, yet to see such kinda lights anywhere though. David is in bliss, he has seen “Prabhujee” up close and live, the chosen one.
So now Prabhujee is all geared up to sing at his first show, and who should be heckling him. Its that sweet little childhood pal turned snooty snobbish rich Miss, in hot pants, leading a bunch of hot pants wearing babes, booing ”Prabhujee”. Lovely bit of dialogue here, Rich Miss throws a slipper to Prabhujee, Prabhujee catches it, and then says “Throw another, will be getting a pair”. And then Prabhujee goes “Eeah Oooh Aah, Aah Ooh Ahaa, Zara Mudke, Mila Aankhein, Aaya Hoon Main tere Liye” with ample dosages of ”Kuriya, Kuriya” and “Pewwwwwws, Pewwwwww” in the background. And before you can say “Grease”, the audiences are swaying to ”Prabhu’s Disco Leela”, which involves among other things, rolling on the ground, kicking his feet up in the air. Watch it here.
And voila before ya know it, the “Prabhu Jee” legend has begun. “Will ya sing with me”, “Yes”, say the crowd. ”Will ya dance with me”, “Yes” say the crowd. And then Prabhujee gets the audience into the alphabet recital “Say Deee, Say Iiiii, Say Yessssssss, Say Siiiiiiii, Say Ooooo, Dishko, Dishko” and then the affirmation of the legend “I am a Disco Dancer”. The start of the ”Prabhu Leela”, the beginning of a new religion, the creation of a cult, “Jai Ho Prabhu Leela Ki”.
“Krishna Dharti Pee Aaja Tuu”, intones Prabhujee in an all white outfit, with large wings, band around his head, truly looking like some mythical character. In the meanwhile though Rich Bad Dad is not pleased, Sam has become a junkie, and to make it worse, daughter dearest, Ritu has actually fallen in love with Prabhujee, and after a failed attempt by his lackeys, Vasco and Bollywood’s favorite phirang baddie, Bob Christo, Bad Guy comes up with a fiendish plan to get rid of Prabhujee, by fixing up a guitar with 5000 Volts, to kill him with a shock. Actually a pretty dumb guy, considering that even current can do nothing to Prabhujee, he is God after all. However Mama dearest now, makes the ultimate sacrifice, touching the deadly 5000 Volts wala Guitar, leaving Prabhu Jee devastated. Without “Maa Ke Haath Ka Khaana”, Prabhujee loses interest in music, and his career goes down. But then considering ”Prabhujee” can never lose, he sure regains it back, and the how has to be only seen on the screen, just to understand why Prabhujee is well Prabhujee.

Prabhuji’s magic was fading, just then Gunda was released and my faith was restored. Aeiiii sala…
:D ….
Very Nice post… can definately read the points when your pulses fluctuated when disco dancer was a rage
No clue why 80s are bashed so much … 80s had their charm…. led by Mithun and Bappi …. no clue why Usha Uthap, Nazia Hassan, Zohrab Hassan, Biddu and even that day Asha Bhonsle, never got their dues… 80s was definately the time when movies started experimenting, trying to match up with the MTVs and western movies and music and kinds, the awareness and hearing to the englisg songs had picked up by and large, those were the days when Rambo Rocky terminator, commando posters could be seen in the “hep” youngster’s house, you could see em and deduct that this guy is in his own trip and world… The George Micheal, Tom Cruise jacket was a rage… for a long time even Salman Khan was the pakka 80s star … Disco Dancer possibly remains the pick and the face for 80s… the rushing in of a new era kinds… (m mean agreed AB is god… and agreed saara zamaana is a hugely popular, but AB in a bulb suit looked atrocious to me then, now and always… wierdly comically catchy yes, but kickass?no… compared to that Disco dancer with a bangali accent passing away looking like a catholic, and giving his grooves..) this movie does make into a leagues of all time movie definers… unfortuantely not yet accepted by pundits… Disco Dancer was definately the ushering in of a new era in hindi cinema,,,, good or bad.. this was one of those hugely experimented cinema (Om Puri as David Brown… I cant imagine somebody naming an Om Puri character as David Brown in those days… ) all in all though there are a 1000 cliches… 1000 done to death with scenes and screenplays… this movie was indeed kickass… along with Qurbani, Shaan, karz, runa Laila, Biddu, and guys, these songs will be an all time hits… will be regarded sometime soon, but will surely be.. there are also tons of movies like Mr. India, Nagina and kinds which were cults…. still are remembered, Chandni and others still classics… and of course the age of jaane bhi Do yaaron, salaam bombay, chasme badduur, Ardh satya I guess this was the era when Farooq Sheikh could imagine acting in big and small banners, when YRF signed FS for their movies… the only movies that make 80s look bad are the ones which had 70s stars desperately trying to jive to the “new pop age” with AB, rajesh khanna, and jeetendra pushing themselevs in tight pants or jeetendra’s family dramas…. but otherwise I’d always say 80s will be on top my favorite lists, there was this rebel feel to the movies music ishtyle…. and yes….. I would always consider some part os of 90s and early 2000s to the wirst phase of cinema, when we had too many david dhawans… his movies (not when he made those occasional comedies, but even movies like muqablas) or other David wannabes…. innumerable boring family movies “chori chori chupke chupke, hamara dil aapke paas hai” era…. or the entire phase of 99, and then 2000 (KNPH barred only cuz it was exciting then), and 2002 and 2003… when movies had real sad options …
Well, PS nice observation.
Why don’t you compile all the information decade wise in a post or two and enlighten a few like me while making others nostalgic .
Yaar Jahanpanah, firstly thanks…
.. a few days back I had responded for this to Gaurang… for some reason I am this very lame audience…. the ones who can crib about AG, WYR, Wanted, lack of good cinema and kinds…. but very lazy to be only a responsive person, than create a blog by myself (I NEED TO NEED TO PULL UP MY SOCKS) … whenever I have tried, I end up writing way too much, ki sar kahin paanv kahin hota hai … on responses at least, they have wording limitations, and folks are able to respond supporting, or showing a differnt light… toh sahi hai 4 line maine likhe 4 line somebody else and the conversation has only a chai and a plate of biskit missing from an chatty evening..
for sure, someday I will get my writing together and put my blog up …
Will wait for that day.
PS if ur serious about a blog for this, i have a proposal here. I have started my own Movie Blog “Seeti Maar-Diary of a Movie Lover”, its a mixed stuff right now, but would love more posts on the 70’s 80’s Masala flicks, if you are interested could join as a contributor there, and add your posts.
@ratnakara… sir i re iterate, I am hopeless idiot who can write responses for now… I would love to write a blog, but I am pretty sure as of now I would lose the steam mid way… unless you wouldn’t mind like real short paragraphed blogs
but for sure wil visit ur blog and contribute wherever I can .. can you send me the link? excited to see it…:)
Dude i actually don’t mind short para stuff, as long as it conveys the message. Anyway u can check here at http://seetimaar.blogspot.com. And all kinda contributions are welcome.
will do for sure… tried visiting the website right away but it shows that its under maintenence..
PS, I think its some kinda cycle, you grow up with something, stumble on something “new”, “different”, “hatke”, and till then what u liked seems stupid, u in fact even wonder how ya enjoyed, and then after some time the “hatke” stuff you loved seems to become “stale”, and then you get this nostalgic “those days” feeling. I don’t think 99 was boring, we had some really good movies in that year like “Sarfarosh”, “Vaastav” to recall a few.
2002 was the saddest year, had to put up with all those sappy, boring melodramas, though there were a few watchable ones like “Legend of Bhagat Singh”,”Humraaz”,”Company”. 2003 i think was a slightly better year, yeah it had stinkers like “MPKDH”,”Baaz”, “Talaash”, but on other hand there was “Bhoot”.
to me 1999 had only sarfarosh, 1947, vaastav and hum dil de chuke sanam.. the troubles being these were real out of the way good movies, but not the usual hindi movie year that you have… the rest made me wonder if we will ever get to see some good cinema again… 2001 with Lagaan and DCH made me look for more, but in 2002 and 2003 all we got is pre 2001 in making movies…2002 again, humraaz and company … of course there were the usual priyadarshan flicks and the sudden rise of Akshay Khanna… but thats about it… I think 2003-04 had a stream of good movies, most of them led by ajay devgan…and then the cycle of good movies started again … but yeah 2002 with raaz and devdas as only hits… that was one stretch of an year..
n of course.. with SRK giving Baadshah, and Aamir Khan giving Mann, and Salman giving shared movies, AB in still the re upcoming phase, govinda and gang out of scene, we had nothing… akshay kuamr gained this period with abbas mustan.. somehow bobby deol did not have the same business sense… though admittently 2002 had its share of good movies actually… I think Sur, Jism, Paap happened then… so did we have Road, and quite a few other run of the mill good movies like RHTDM, and Om Jai Jagadish…. yes this was the year which was plagued by piracy…. most of the movies were fkd up by pirated market…
Jism, Bhoot were in 2003, it also had other good movies like Pinjar, Gangajal, but again the stinkers( MPKDH, Baaz, Ek Aur Ek Gyaarah,Talaash, Chura Liya Hai, Inteha) were too numerous.
Comming back to the 80’s again, the first half of the 80’s in fact was pretty good. You had the hard core masala stuff( Laawaris, Naseeb) co existing with middle of road cinema( Chashme Budoor, Khoobsurat, Angoor, Katha) as well as the more artsy stuff( Ardh Satya, Kalyug, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro). It was also the decade when you had mainstream movies with a more serious, gritty look(Arjun, Parinda) and some of the best comedies( JDBY, Katha, Chameli Ki Shaadi). I think it went haywire in the later half of the 80’s, first with all those Jeetu’s South flicks, and then later those “Aag”, “Jaladoonga” flicks that seriously gave me a headache.
80s also gave us possibly the next big singer who was distinct and held his own ground, not only in terms of singing but also respect… (with own ground as in not compared with other singers, but respected as to what he sang) .. SPB …
SPB was in a league by himself, topic for another day.
true… but yeah, definately a positive pointer for the 80s… onset of SPB….
80s also had film makers moving into the small screen, with Pankaj Parashar making Karamchand, and Amol Palekar making Kachchi dhoop…
SPB and Amit Kumar were some of the redeeming features of late 80’s Hindi movie songs, where otherwise we had to listen to Shabbir Kumar and Md.Aziz.
Late 80s also faced the stiff competition … of TV, something that wasn’t even imagined much till then… What Ramayan did to cinema is maybe a completely new subject… but with the onset of Arun Govil as the new main leading man in almost everybody’s lives, and an entertainer that was close to heart, who was to be followed week after week, how many of them would ve still gone to cinema halls to watch movies?
TV actually hit the middle of road cinema hard, thats reason why Hrishi Da, Basu Chatterjee, Sai Paranjpe all shifted to TV. And later Ramayan-Mahabharat hit the Sunday Matinee shows hard.
ek incident yaad aaya…
in 89 ..we went to Vaishno devi and had halted in the foothills a place called Katra…and Mahabharat was on…
Hotels, shops and traffic stopped for the 1 hr and our whole “toli” watched it too as a Shubharambh to our “Mata ki Chadhayi”..
ramayan mahabharat still understood yaar… but i still remember economic times covered this news article, that a few companies which used to have meetings on sundays stopped doing it because of Jungle book… those were the days when I used to hate going out anywhere while this was being played… by any chance you do end up being out, that half an hour was spent with a miserable mood..
“The George Micheal, Tom Cruise jacket was a rage”
And the posters of Stallone( First Blood), Arnie( Commando) in every guy’s room. I guess that was also the time gyms started comming up everywhere, and in every gym you had Arnie and Sly, on the posters, with their rippling muscles. And females with frizzy hair dos, tight mini skirts. AB looked really ridiculous in that Sara Zamana song, that surely needs to be given the award for the “Wost Costume”.
not just gyms, but also all the greeting card, stationery shops and shops which used to rent archie comics out for rent…. wow, those posters with those women… some of them were real sleazy… even today I think we dont get those sleazy ones…
Well now when you get the sleaze stuff, free on the net, just at the click of a mouse, who really would want to buy em.
yeah, but now its so much in abundance that the charm is lost.. even a news site like Indiatimes makes sure to give us “whose curves are hotter list” (wow I still managed to keep it dignified compared to indiatimes)… but yes did try to find sunny leone once I got net… oooh hoooo… then also tried papia sengupta… she was the face in a lot of zee serials … n then gave some kickass photo shoots for magazines…
PS- What about the Samantha Fox posters? the classic side pose wala flaunting her????
also popular I remember was Sun Magazine in India then which had the great posters of tee idols like Ravi Shastri,MJ, Madonna etc. Disco Dancer is certainly a landmark movie from the 80’s- something thats fun to rev-visit time and again.
arre baapre… sethu sir… you are going to get me fired… m already on the verge of googling that picture out…. in my office
I keep telling everyone that 80s was kickass times…I mean can this decade that is coming to an end boast of a Pyaar Jhukta Nahin, a Marte Dum Tak, a Mashaal, Arjun, Ijaazat, Tohfaa (which I liked), Pataal Bhairavi, Bemisaal, Shakti, Woh saat din, Hero, Love 86, Ilzaam, Waqt ke Rakhwaale, Guru (the prabhuji one), all the Mahesh Bhatt ones, Sansaar, Sagar Sangam, Jaisi Karni waisi Bharni…
I can go on and on…I loved those flicks. My barber swore by it. So did the guy who drove my school bus. Later, my college guys were there first day first show at almost all of these..I have walked 7 kms to see Karma!
I love 80s
Dada, i think u must be referring to Watan Ke Rakhwaale, the movie where you get to see Dharam Paaji doing a Narasimha Avatar act, ripping Guddu Dhanoa’s stomach out, as revenge for raping his sis. And same movie has Dharam Paaji, Prabhujee and Sridevi doing an Amar Akbar Antony impersonation.
Nice to know i am not the only 80’s fan.
Ratnakar I think you are refering to Dan Dhanoa in Watan Ke Rakhwale.Guddu Dhanoa is the director/producer and cousin of the Deol brothers.
And adding to ur list, Aetbaar, Jalwa, Masoom, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Khamosh, Dacait, Tezaab, Jawaab, Khoon Bhari Maang, Khudgarz.
Yes, Yes and Yes to all of that..I even liked Maqsad, Akalmand and those types….
Whoa!! solid post!!
As I’ve grown up in the 90’s with the likes of David Dhawans and Mansoor Khans, I am completely unaware of the 80’s pickchurs. And I’m so glad you wrote this, coz reading this I was actually transported to the sounds of 80’s
Gaurang, ur welcome dude. Actually i guess my year of birth 1969, was a blessing for me. Enabled me to experience, the 70’s( as a kid), the 80’s( as a teen), and then the 90’s( as a youngster). So i have a special affection for the movies of these 3 decades.
I caught a lot of 80s movies on doordarshan actually …. even those 3 minute airs on national unity from some Mithun Suresh oberoi movie was a must watch every day… any idea which movie that was… i remember the song was “yeh teri meri yaari, yeh dosti hamari,…. , allah ko hai pyaari…
Dunno dude, but yeah remember watching that song ad nauseum, Mithun-Suresh Oberoi, Shammi Kapoor-Saeed Jaffrey. Actually used to catch up with all the 80’s and 90’s stuff on late night cable, Star, Sony, Zee but now those slots have been taken over by all those dubbed into Hindi, Telugu, Tam flicks.
yes.. shammi kapoor was the missing link in my memories… looking back again .. 80s had a lot of good movies… and 90s cannot make me remember a revered movie like Mr India or Nagina, which were beyond the levels of liking or disliking… they were just followed… guess if Aftab puts that in his resume, he can still get some movies…
The movie is Daata. The song is here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EjgwwMCuLw
thats daata..mithun with a mustache!!
Have not seen Daata, but i guess its one of those numerous “Daaku” movies that came during the 80’s?
i dont remember much as watched when i was a kid. but yeah did have daaku story to it. btw great post Ratnakar sir!
Man, Daata was the most awesome daaku movie I had seen then…
daata…. for sure i mai yeh pikture dekhne hoon jaata …
After this movie which was the next important movie in Mithun’s career which had given his career another turn? I ‘d like to know what to expect if you are interested in writing a series of post on Prabhuji (like De Palma) one.
Jahan, no not really a series of posts, this was something wrote just out of the blue. But i think the next important movie in Mithun Da’s career post Disco Dancer wud be Pyaar Jhukta Nahin, it proved he could do the Rajesh Khanna-Jeetu kinda weepie melodrama, and got him out of his Disco Dancer-Gunmaster image. The movie however was a big yawn though.
Actually I liked the movie Pyar Jhukta Nahin.
I was meandering upon PJN, Ghulami and Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki but wasn’t sure which was the next milestone.
Ghulami sure was one of Mithun’s best, in fact would rate it as one of the best 80’s movies, but again his was more of a support role, not the main hero.
Kasam Paida Karne Waale Ki was good( if you could overlook Salma Agha), again due to Smita Patil and Mithun, some great songs. But would not say its an important movie, it just built on Mithun’s Disco Dancer image.
The reason why i feel Disco Dancer is Mithun Da’s most important movie, is that it gave him the image, created the aura around him. In a sense after this movie he was like 007, Clint Eastwood and Michael Jackson all in one single package.
Then there was Boxer which added Stallone and De Niro in that apart from the above names.
Boxer was a pretty good movie, the boxing scenes were authentic, and also the dramatic scenes between Mithun-Danny. It had good performances from Mithun Da, Danny, Sharat Saxena and Tanuja. I guess audiences found it way too slick.
Oh yeah… boxer was intense to me then …. and there was this channel called DD movie club… they aired it almost every 3rd day…
what are saying Ratna, ignore Salma, she was the only reason I saw Nikaah, Pataal Bhairavi (for that song) and Kasam Paida….of course Mithunda was there too
Dada, the only time i could bear Salma Agha on screen was for Nikaah. Also her nasal kinda singing did not suit the Dishko song in KPKWK. Strictly IMO.
“Pyar Jhukta Nahin” ki yaad mat dilao…
Har Chitrahaar pe uska ek song zarooor hota tha…Each version had some character crying…Dad, Mom or Kid….or some combo of them..
Very depressing song…
I made sure I never saw that movie
Your loss, I guess.
Yes Pyar Jhukta Nahin was a big hit and was a favorite on Chitrahaar.Tumse Milkar Na Jaane Kyon and other songs were memorable. It even went on to be remade in Tamil with Rajnikant and Sridevi ( Naan Adimai Illai ) which also was a hit.
The Mithunda-B.Subhash combo also gave us movies like Dance-Dance,Kasam Paida Karne Wali Ki, Commando and the recent dud- Classic- Dance of Love
wasnt dance dance, the one which had this wierd song “aagayaa aagayaa halwa wala aa gayaa?” .. i remember hearing this song in antakshris and used to wonder if somebody is just purposefully using the word halwawala, instead of some original work that should be in place
Yeah Dance Dance had that “Halwa Waala” song, and the first half of the movie was a straight lift from Fast Forward, later with the Maa-Didi angle, shifted into Bollywood territory.
To me it’d be prem pratigya…. him and madhuri made pretty cute pair which nobody ever gained on …. isnt the song “sheeshe ki umr pyar ki pathar se na maariye, toota hai dil kisi ka..” from this movie, or am i just thinking of a wrong lip sync?
yeah Sheeshe ki Umar is indeed from Prem Pratigya, i guess one of the last songs of Kishore Da, recorded before his death and used later.
@Rk,
Thanks for the post, loved it.
Even though i grew up in 90,s Mithun is one of my fav.
I am Disco Dancer is still a craze in college fest.
Boxer i guess is still an under rated movie.
@Sethu,
Pyaar Jhukta Nahin, is one of my fav.
I loved Classic-Dance of Love too.
Jhakas post.. ek dum 80 eshtyle… even though i was born in 1980, so I was quite young in this era but later I watched mostly all good movies of 80s and the best part was masala, which i mis a lot these days and you are right that 80s was better then 90s in which what mostly we use to get was overdose of Nadeem shravan and Kumar Sanu…Disco Dancer will always remain special for me because it got me my first prize in life…I won dance competition after performing on I am disco dancer…in 4th class in 1990…purani yaadon mein kho gaya hun mein aaj phir… and I think that cup is still somewhere in my home… I will search it… One of the best thing about 80s was Bappi da music.. pyar bina chain kahan re….even today in marriages around Delhi at late night his songs are popular like de de pyar de.. pag ghungroo…
One thing i wonder about the “Dishko” songs those days, the street lights twinkling, flashing like Strobe Lights. Looks like every street was a dance floor then.
best example of flashing street lights is Pyar bina chain kahan re..another things were those voices like…ten tena tane… ten tene…tane…chieunw… chieunw…tanaeu…tanaeu… some like that sorry can’t be expressed in words….
Kishore Kumar’s sudden death in 1987, hit Bappi Da badly. Only Kishore Da could bring out that zany spirit in his songs, and make it fun. It was a torture listening to Shabbir Kumar and Md.Aziz later on.
later on, bappi da did try to push vijay benedict who sang quite a few songs for mithun da in dance-dance etc
I believe Vijay Benedict has turned to “Evangelical” songs nowadays.
Yeah btw this is his site
http://www.vijaybenedict.com
Indian Gospel Singer, Jai Ho.
I too danced on disco dancer song in class 1, but that day every kid got prize. I love bappi da song, and mithun spring shoes in commando.
In Ghulami even though Prabhu ji was not in main lead but still I rate his performance in Ghulami better then Disco Dancer and Pyar Jhukta nahi… though I loved Pyar Jhukta nahi too and today also sometimes I use to liston the song Tumse Milkar…. Pyar Jhukta Nahin is the biggest hit of K.C.Bokadia and other one is Aaj Ka Arjun….
Looks like lots of fans for Pyaar Jhukta Nahin, but somehow never liked the movie. Somehow i never liked Prabhujee in all those weepy melodramas and those “Ghar, Sansaar” kinda flicks. Love him best in those kick ass stuff, doing his fights, challenging the baddies. Also while Prabhujee’s Disco, Gunmaster flicks have got a cult following, his Curry Westerns( Wanted, Jigar, Hum Se Hai Zamana) have been equally bindaas stuff.
Sorry, read that as Jaagir, a curry Western, starring Prabhujee, Dharam Paaji and Danny, sure shot killer combo.
My fav films of Mithu da!
)
1. Boxer ( I watch it every time , its aired on Sony/Max)
2. Agneepath
3. Pyaar jhukta nahi ( I used to sing tumse milkar …
4. Ghulami
5. And last but not the least GUNDAA
I hated Bappida and hence disco dancer !! ,sorry
Tere ko Disco Dancer accha nahin Laaga, PrabhuJee Ka Bhakt Hote Hue Bhi, Ghor Apraaadh.
No doubt Agneepath is his best.. 100% and there was a movie called Naraaz with nice music, film was OK but Prabhujee was quite good in it and Yaatri bhai tell me one thing sachi sachi when ever u liston pag ghunghro or pyar bina chain kahan re etc. aapke pair nahi thirakte…?
Even in Sharaabi, while you had De De Pyaar De, you had Manzilen Apni Jagah, one of Kishore Da’s best songs, and very touching.
Regards Bappi Da, he has become more famous for his “Dishko” tunes, but he has composed some lovely melodious tunes too in Chalte Chalte, Lahu Ke Do Rang. One of Yesudas best Hindi songs “Maana Ho Tum” was composed by Bappi Da himself, i think it was for some movie called Toote Khilone or something like that.
Or that one song ‘Dil Mein Ho Tum da da di da da..’. Point a camera in front of Bappi da and he starts singing that song even in his sleep.
The only thing bigger than Bappi Da is his self-image.
very true and usually Bappi Da sings it in Bengali and that too in typically Bappi Da ishtyle.. bus mouka chahiye and he starts..
Who can forget kisi nazar ko tera Intezar aaj bhi hai from Aitbaar… classic song sung by Bhupinder Singh and Asha Bhonsle…and music by Bappi Da…
I simply said I dont like him that doesnt mean he hasn’t created good songs !!
Sharabi’s song were awesome and manzilein apni jagah hain is my all time favourite!!
yaar Bappi Lahiri is a sufferer of the “image” … he has weaved a lot of magical songs, but is forced to stick into one image of his…. same thing with anu malik today na… unless somebody says Phir teri kahaani yaad aayi, or viaypath, anu malik is always made to live either in “copycat” image or the “oonchi hai building” “sexy sexy sexy” image…
then u must watch this movie… have no idea of the name, but its got mithun and rajinikanth… the baaply combo of all wakaaaw combinations…. it had dimple as well… of course rajinikanth had to die… but this one should have all those 80s ka moments, with those BGMs when a father/son, rich/poor, heroine/her mom talk… only if India had the concept of royalties…. the guy created that one music as BGM in 80s would ve reaped in millions…
Mithun-Rajni?? Yaar only movie i recall in which they came together was Brashtachar. And only other time i can recall Rajni, Dimple in another movie was some Khoon Ka Karz, and that had Vinod Khanna in it.
eeps… then it wasn’t dimple… I dont remember looking at the actress then.. was way too young, action was all that mattered and Rajini and Mithin in black jackets looked all dhasu then…
I was a kid when Disco Dancer released ( more of a toddler ) but still remember the mania it had unleased. All over school and in every neighbourhood the songs were a rage. But my memories of the movie were not so strong since I was too small. Finally just after a decade after the release I remember watching the movie again in a tuesday afternoon slot on D.D.I remember coming back from school excitedly and having a whale of a time.
After that I’ve gone on to watch the movie repeatedly.Bappida’s music ( though inspired ) was a trendsetter. The title track was fundoo- dunno where Vijay Benedict the singer has disappeared. And Yaad Aa Raha Hai and Krishna Dharti Pe Aaja Tu are simply superb as well.
Karan Razdan in his Koi Yahan Aaha Nache Nache jig along with Kalpana Iyer was funny.Om Puri had learnt how to balance a Disco Dancer with a Ardh Satya very well.
All in all it was a timepass entertainer and worth a watch even today.Certainly one of Mithunda’s best movies.
The highlight of the movie was that it strategically created Mithun and the mania of music et al, while David Brown was creating Jimmy, brick by brick the phenom was almost created…i dont know if they ever realised it….
Superb Post…do you remember that finger snapping(chutki) scene in the middle of the road when all the rowdies surround prabhuji…priceless!!. On another note, I’m surprised whenever we talk about best roles of Mithunda how Prem Pratigya is always missed out. This was a role which was so unlike what he had been doing all along. This in my book ranks among his best along with the others already mentioned here.
By the way, Oops is Dipak Tijori not Karan Razdan
Oh yeah that chutki fight, became a cult, was talked about for days together. I think there was a similar kinda scene in Arjun also. Prem Pratigya was good, but then Mithun had always given good performances under direction of Bapu, Hum Paanch and another one Pyaari Behna.
In fact i liked Pyaari Behna more than Pyaar Jhukta Nahin.
YES… ANOTHER MENTION OF PREM PRATIGHYA
I have been searching for a Mithunda movie which I had seen as a kid. It’s a horror movie, I remember there’s a fight scene in mud, I think it had Ranjeeta as the heroine, but I’m not sure if it’s Dhuaan. For some reason the name ‘Bhayanak’ keeps coming to my mind but I don’t find any movie by this name in imdb, and neither in Mithunda’s or Ranjeeta’s profile on imdb. Is it Dhuaan or some other movie?
Sudip, if its horror, Ranjeeta and mud fight scene, i guess its Bhayanak. The only other Mithunda horror flick i recall was Bees Saal Baad( absolute torture of a movie). Actually its kinda surprising that IMDB has not listed Bhayanak. I recall the posters of the movie as a kid, very scary. Its something like Ranjeeta gets bumped off, by 3 ghouls and Mithun goes on a revenge spree. The movie made news those days, because it was shot at the Gwalior Maharaja’s palace.
Dhuaan was more of a Hitchcock style thriller, and it was a decent watch, Rakhee playing a negative role in it.
Great!! Thanks for confirming Ratnakar
Boss log, Dhuan is a personal fav. The highlight is a song that I blissfully have forgotten in which Mithunda wants to catch Ranjeeta and guess what – he uses the kainchi style karate clinch with his legs to trap Ranjeeta and she falls down, all the while Mithunda is singing…Prabhu, Prabhu!
One of the other good performance of Mithun Daa was in ”JALLAD”..(i think he got the best villian award tht year)..Mithun daa has got a different style in each of his movies..GHULAMI, AGNEEPATH, GURU (even in supporting roles).Trivia-Mithun Daa did cameo roles in Do Anjaane & also with Rishi Kapoor in the song ”MANU BHAI MOTOR CHALI PUMP PUMP”..(cnt recall the movie)..Another Mithun Daa song becoming a big craze was ”Jhonny Jhonny..Jhonny ka dil thuje pe aaya Juli” (voice of Anu Malik)
By the way Oops was by Deepak Tijori..
Jallad was an excellent performance by Prabhujee, as the Bad Guy. In fact really loved his performance in Guru, very subtle, very restrained, much different from what we usually see. That Johnny Johnny song i think is from Jeete Hain Shaan Se.
Yes.. jeete hai shaan se… which took chutkis to another level…. somebody asks sanjay dutt his name… (i dont remember the name but this was hilarious) “chutki” ROCKY “chutki” ROCKY” chutki “ROCKY” chutki “ROCKY” chutki “ROCKY”
Sanju Baaba is a subjec tin himself….
Remember the Hair style in Saajan,Sadak and other late 80s movies…..
Wonder how many of public here had the same hair style…..
And the baggie pants…I sure thought every boy had borrowed his sister’s salwar on purpose…
Not me, but i had a friend in college, die hard fan of Sunju Baba, and after Saajan, he even changed his hairstyle to the same manner. While Sunju Baba did have a following among the youth, his “Bad Boy” image did not go down well with parents at all. Sunju Baba could have been the next big star, but he ruined his career, first with some incredibly bad choice of movies, and later his flirting around with all kinds of gangsters, crooks, rogues.
the sanju walk is still famous.. he was the Indian reply to hollywood at a point of time, with fights ending with a huge bomb blast in a warehouse, and Sanju walking casually swaggering left to right right to left… that swagger became a part of an average young indian’s walk
“with fights ending with a huge bomb blast in a warehouse, and Sanju walking casually swaggering left to right right to left”
Was this from Aatish, directed by Sanjay “Dude Where is My DVD” Gupta. That movie itself was a clear inspiration of John Woo’s A Better Tomorrow, the entire plot in fact.
More than the movie, the scene became the must of all the ishtyle action flicks of one time… akshay to ajay to sanjay everybody had it… though you are bang on target when u mention Aatish!!! thats easily the most memorable one… the swagger walk became a rage out here… though hats off to Sanjay Gupta … agreed he should ve given credits to the originals, but for a lot of us growing up indians then, his movies and articles related to the movies were our introduction to hollywood… apart from of course the scoop of “pataa ha kate winslet ne waise roles kiye hai uss picture mei”
Jallad, Yugandhar, Naaraz, Phool aur angaar, were like the beginning of the end for the “HERO” mithun. … after this he was into the rajeev Babbar and TLV prasad mode… which maybe earned him a quick money, or maybe somebody told him interiors ka market is awesome… or if he just wanted to create his own league of movies challenging the mainstream movies..
Kinda Mithunomics at play here, most of these movies were shot at Ooty on a shoe string budget, and the artistes, crew were usually accommodated at Prabhuji’s Monarch Hotel. So production costs drastically came down, and the movies rarely lost money. Credit should be given for making money here, without resorting to borrowing from dubious sources, and being scrupulous.
Yes Mithun is a shrewd business man.He did some 25 + movies with TLV Prasad alone and most of the so called B/C grade movies were money spinners. But now I guess he has got over that trend. On the one hand he’s doing movies like Luck,Guru,Heroe’s etc where he’s contented being part of the big star cast and also does a Phir Kabhi,Chal Chalein,Baabarr etc where he gets to display his talent. And of course he continues to maintain a balance between the potboilers and the intelligent type in Bengali cinema.
I think Jurmaana was the movie after which Mithun changed track. Jurmana is still a TLV Prasad movie but I remember its song being aired on TV. Perhaps because of Mithun it was categorized as a mainstream movie but after that I don’t remember any song of a TLV Prasad movie being aired on TV.
Actually he had a good reason to target the “Interiors” market, the Khan trio was dominating the 90’s, and on the other hand, Ajay Devgan, Akshay Kumar were establishing themselves in the Maar Dhaad Genre. Sunny Paaji had his own following. He knew that in the mainstream market, he was getting kinda squeezed out, so he did a smart thing, targeting the interiors. Prabhujee is surely one of the smartest businessman around.
TADIPAAR & NAARAZ..had good performance by Mithun Daa..but i always wonder why he did movies for Rajiv Babbar & TLV, when he could hav done good character roles like BIG B. Another performance of Mithun in negative role was in ELAN (opp Jhon & Rahul Khanna)..not an impressive one..but he was the only good thing in the movie.
Elan was touted as his comeback to the mainstream..I think he shifted base back to Bombay after this.
The only reason i went to see Elaan in theaters was Prabhujee, no way a cast of John A, Rahul Khanna, Arjun Rampal would have motivated me otherwise.
Deepak, i guess it was the time he was having financial problem, and barring Mahesh Bhatt, none of the other mainstream movie makers were interested in casting him in their movies. Problem is Mithun Da has never some how been a favorite with the Big Daddies, the way AB was, dunno why.
well it also took AB almost 15 years to be back as the Big thing all over again…. and for all you know Mithun da might ve asked YRF studios to pack up from Swiss and Pind and shoot at ooty
Somehow Jackie Shroff rose above the TLV and Rajeev Babbar gang… Mithun needs to re work himself in terms of looks a bit… just the way AB’s french beard worked wonders for him… he can still work his way …
The other hard thing about Mithun is that he is one of the early 80s man… somehow most the other 80s contemperories are still leading men .. Anil kapoor, jackie shroff, govinda, sunday dutt, sunny deol…
“The other hard thing about Mithun is that he is one of the early 80s man… somehow most the other 80s contemperories are still leading men .. Anil kapoor, jackie shroff, govinda, sunday dutt, sunny deol… ”
I think barring Govinda none of em are playing the lead roles nowadays. Jackie has long gone into character roles in the 90’s itself. Even Sunny Paaji is mostly playing supporting roles.
kahaan yaar… if leading men means having the heroine, then maybe not… but Sanjay Dutt is used as the biggest audience grossing part of any movie he works in, apart from his own solo munnabhais… Anil Kapoor is still going good with his movies… Sunny Paaji works in a Fox once in a while, but he remains the man, in flop movies like Jo Bole So Nihaal, to the main lead in a home prodn like Apne, and still has a few flicks releasing revolving around him … none of the above mentioned actors, barring Jackie here n there, are playing fathers, or guides who are meant to suffer or die… more or less the roles that Amrish Puri did during his last dyas..
I wonder if Mithunda’s acceptance of the God Man role in Chingari was a nod to the Prabhuji title bestowed upton him
Chingaari was rubbish, Gosh i can sit through Jallad, Sikandar, Chandaal but not this movie. Kalpana Lajmi is such an overrated movie maker, and to think she blamed Mithun Da for the fiasco.
Yeah Chingari was horrible…but I wouldn’t blame mithunda…he did what he had to…and quite well too
I swear, I have watched only HOT scene of chingari through Youtube :D
Yeah Chingari..another negative role..but wht a shit movie.
CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA–Heavy pomp show and promotion by the big stars..but the real star was Mithun Daa..the death scence when he was killed by the Chinese villian was the only good scence in the movie.I even saw some of his recent bengali movies like MLA FATA KESTHU..and its sequel.the dialouge ”MARBO EKHANE ..LAASH PORBE SAMSANE”..was a big hit in Kolkata.
cc2c the real stars were ones that i could see in daylight after watching this flick…
OK Comment No 100, been some time since a post of mine has hit the 100 mark.
Thanks to all the Prabhujee Bhakts, PS, Jahan, Sudeep, Deepak, Cinemausher, Sethu.
And special thanks to PS, for ur tireless comment-A-Thon, dude u do have real passion.
Mithun da, always guarentees a super success..!
True…Just Last Sunday TOI I read that somebody has done her PHD on Amitabh Bachchan(forgot her name)…time now someone does that on Prabhuji…not that anything more is left to do…there are so many unofficial PHD holders on Prabhuji already
Ok her name is Susmita Dasgupta
@Sudip
Seems that she is a Bengali, she would have gained more fame and fans (at least in Bengal) by doing the same on Prabhuji.
Can somebody tell me if there is job market for PHDs on such things… would love that job man … PHD on Tendulkar, SRK, Rahul Gandhi… life would set bossss
NFDC, NDTV, Aaj Tak and India TV.
They do??? yellow journalism and filmi gossip is PHD??? are you serious or you joking??
Thanks Ratna sir and kudos to you for this post.
It was a torture listening to Shabbir Kumar and Md.Aziz later on.
lol. guys do u remember
parbaton se aaj mein takra gaya tum ne di aawaz lo main aa gaya.
If I hear that song one more time I’ll hit my face with chappals
Hey, there were people I knew who used to mimic Moh. Aziz and Shabbir Kumar well and always managed to generate some laughs.
never liked SPB in Hindi songs. Am used to hearing his tamil songs….but cringed at his heavily accented Hindi…
Hated the “Maine pyaar Kiya ” songs and they were blasting from everywhere…
I remember once choking up at a restaurant the moment “Aaja shaam hone aayi” played up … :-)
How did you watch the movie?
I remember once while commenting on the post on Maine Pyar Kiya you went nostalgic saying “Kabootar kahan Mar gaya”. So you did like that song.
hmm… that cannot be me…Used to love BhagyaShree for her lustrous long tresses and from her Kachi Dhoop days. I thought Ashutosh and Bhagyashree looked very cute together in it. :-)
But SPB is another story !!!
Saajan made me cringe too ..the horrid mullet hairstyles on the guys.
remember the song…Tu mera saajan hai…tan tan tan or some idiotic sound ..lousy dances!!!
Madhuri had the worst costumes and still managed to shine….What a performer.
Loved the song “Mera dil bhi kitna paagal hai” :-) Umr ka asar tha
Guys …we have to pay homage to Kumar Sanu Bhaisaahab sometime…
Songs of Saajan were a big craze. Almost every guy in the singing competitions would test their luck with “Mera Dil Bhi” and Antakshari’s would have “Tumse Milne Ki Tammanna” by default.
tu mujhe kabool mai tujhe kabool
teri is baat ka …Khuda gawaah…Khuda gawaah
I’ll gag myself to death if I hear this song once more
This song was also a regular feature on Chitrahaar.
Hmm another Chitrahaar favorite, “Teri Meherbaaniyan, Teri Kadardaaniyan”. Want to drive some 1 insane, make them listen to this song repeatedly. Dunno what’s more painful in the song, the mournful music or Shabbir Kumar’s singing.
I watched this horrible movie in a seedy theatre bcos of Amitabh and Sri devi of course.
Rikshewalle and sadak chaap log kya enthu se pichhar dekhte hain.!! :-)
“Hum” bhi aisi hi ghatiya jagah dekhi thi fr the jumma chumma song of course….
seeetiyon ki aawaaz abhi tak goonj rahi hai mere kaanon me… I still think its a super cool song……
Yaar Khuda Gawaah, was not so bad, the opening scene in fact would do any Hollywood pic proud, and the cinematography was excellent, the second half however just went on and on.
Jumma Chumma is still pretty much a seeti maar gaana. Guys used to sing it a lot in college.
Hum had govinda too in his heydeys…
Anybody with a complete collection of nazia hassan songs? I actually have almost all of them, but there is this particular one I am looking for, never was able to find it any where.. the lyrics are like “aankhon ki aankhon dale, dil ko churane wale, tera shukriya” or somthing like that…
U mean
“aankhen milaane waale, dil ko churaane waale
mujhko bhulaana nahin
mann ko sajaane waale, jeevan mein aane waale
jeevan se jaana nahin”
think its a private song.
Nazia Hassan was one of my childhood crushes, she had a great voice, and was hot.
n this song was amazingly hauntingly awesome…
BTW, anybody who’s seen Swami Vivekanand?
Yes, remember watching Swami Vivekanand once on DD. Mithunda in the role of Ramkrishna Paramhansa.
“Nadi hai to dhaara hoga, koi to kinaara hoga”
I did catch it, Mithun Da was brilliant as Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, he deserved the National Award. However Sarvadaman Banerjee was a big letdown as Swami Vivekananda. For someone like me who had grown up reading Swamiji’s works, and being inspired, it was a huge let down watching such an inspid portrayal of such a charismatic personality.
WOW great article about one of the finest actor and dancer of indian cinema!! and his film “DISCO DANCER”.
wierd, any of my postings from gchrome doesnt seem to be getting added in….
@Ratnakar
May be songs of Saajan were a craze but those were also the days of genuine merchandises of movies and they were not shoved upon the people like now a days. Example- The friend cap from MPK and Aamir Khan cap from DHKMN. Also the craze of movie Dil was so much that it was quite common thing to see them printed on T-Shirts, bags. I remember even using Dil agarbattis and recently I saw that they are still sold in the market. May be they didnt have the copyright but yea they were popular.
Aamir rocked in Dil Hai ki Maanta Nahin.. Pooja Bhatt wasnt bad either..
Songs were awesome… Aamir doing a fundoo job as usual.
Anybody remember “Saudagar” for Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumaar..Subhash Ghai aaj bhi use hi recycle kiye jaa raha hai !!!!
There was this irritating music from “Deewaana”
with SRK and Divya Bharti …Horrible songs..
Believe it or not…it had one
Payaliya ho ho ho ho…
Every time I hear a Santa Claus go Ho Ho…I am reminded of my roommate playing the songs over and over….
Usi roommate ki badaulat I heard Art/SaathSaath songs too but that ish a different shtory…
ROFL stuff. One thought here, Can’t we get to hear B Subhash’s take on this masterpiece. I wonder sometimes what it really takes to make a movie like this.
dudes so much gyaan abt Mithunda and I can’t beleive no one mentioned his THREE NATIONAL AWARDS…the guy fucking DEBUTED with a National Award (Mrigaya) and followed it up with one each for Tahader Katha and Swami Vivekananda; a Mrigaya for every Disco Dancer, a Gudia for every Gunda, a Swami Vivekananda for every Kasam Paida Karne Wale ki…can you beat that?
A Naxalite who became a Matinee Idol, ends up playing one of the most powerful spiritual leaders of the 19th Century! Irony, anyone?
Everything is Prabhujee ki leela sub uski maya (Hinglish: Everything is due to God’s created women called Leela and Maya)
