Dishoom Dishoom!!
Once upon a time our heroes did not need phony-low-budget Hollywood gadgets to beat goons/gundas(no, they are not related to me, I am Goonda – clan of thugwas) they just needed Dishoom Dishoom. If you do not believe me then please watch hindi movies from both 70s and 80s era. It was called Dishoom Dishoom era.
Our heroes used to fight against a dozen of goons without sweating or dropping a shed of blood and that too with just help of Dishoom Dishoom. Quite unbelievable!
Our heroes were not fit or athletic – they were either long-tall-slim or short-fat, and yet they used to fly around i.e flying-kicks, flying-slaps, it was sort of logic-less, no-rules type of ‘kusti’ and they pulled it off convincingly. Okay, not that convincingly, however, it was entertaining.
Only lanky Amitabh Bachchan stood out as the Dishoom Dishoom hero! I do not know how it all began, but every newcomer or old-timers wanted to make either ‘Deewar’ or ‘Zanjeer’ – two of Amitabh Bachchan’s classic Dishoom Dishoom fillums. One of my favorite Dishoom Dishoom scene is from ‘Zanjeer’: The Kusti between Amitabh Bachchan and Pran. That particular scene has been copied heaps of time; last example, the fighting scene between Sanjay Dutt and Mukesh Rishi from movie ‘Kurukshetra’. So it just tells ya how good the ‘Zanjeer’ scene is.
And that trend lasted till early 90s. People went overboard with the Dishoom Dishoom bit and it just killed the genre. Also Sooraj Barjyata and Aditya Chopra came with their Family-Oriented and Teen-Comedy flicks, respectively. It started another trend; every producer wanted to make either of those two genres. We are a nation of trend followers!
It is hard to recall a good action movie released in last decade or so. The industry has money, the actors are lean and athletic, it does not need a much of story… (so that’s good for the producers).. all we need is good dialogues, good acting and good action scenes like from ‘Zanjeer’. The concept is Paisaa Vasool! They do not need to copy Hollywood action movies or USA action series.
Just keep it simple – Dishoom Dishoom!

i think dishum sishum has been changed and moulded with the scifi and technology error, less physical action and more stunts and adventures are thrown in.
Amit ji will remain the legend of dishum dishum
HG,
if you want to go back to the beginning of big b’s fighting scenes, maybe u shld watch him fight in ‘bombay to goa’. and the trade mark which big b carried was not dishoom dishoom but the long legs. tht’s where he scored over other heroes.
i don’t like those kind of sci-fi actions. it does not stick in me mind. where as Dishoom Dishoom action bit always…
cobain, i have seen ‘Bombay To Goa’ and yes, it was his long legs – in fact, in most movies its his long legs as well, but it still Dishoom Dishoom ;)
Ajay Devgan is another one who comes to mind with dishum dishum
LOL, Honhaar, I liked the link to the urban dictionary
I haven’t watched any dishoom-dishoom films from the 70’s or 80’s yet (I know!) but I remember being a bit shocked with the sound effects in the fighting scene in DDLJ. That was when I discovered what dishoom-dishoom meant. :d
I think I should watch Amitabh Bachchan going into action…
Ajay Devgan is another one who comes to mind with dishum dishum
And long legs too! Would the fight in the middle of the traffic in Yuva be clasified as dishoom-dishoom as well? :-?
