KPMG and EY had come out with an earlier report and now PwC, saying pretty much the same thing.

Entertainment business is booming
Online, wireless drive growth
By ADAM DAWTREYLONDON — The global entertainment and media industry will grow by 6.4% a year to reach $2 trillion by 2011, powered by the expansion of online and wireless technologies, according to a report by Pricewaterhouse Coopers.
Spending on convergent platforms — defined as the coming together of the home computer, TV and wireless handsets — will account for almost 72% of the total growth in entertainment and media during the next five years.

Jim O’Shaugnessy, global chairman of PWC’s entertainment and media practice, said, “Content, distribution and technology companies need to aggressively seek out new relationships to accommodate the shift toward convergence. Furthermore, companies will need to test new business models to address increased fragmentation and intellectual property in a digital era.”

“Deal activity across the entertainment and media sector is accelerating, driven by the migration to digital formats,” he added.

Geographically, PWC’s Global Entertainment and Media Outlook 2007-2011 predicts that Brazil, Russia, India and China will account for 24% of global growth in that period.

The U.S. will remain the single largest market for entertainment and media, but is also growing at the slowest rate — just 5.3% a year to reach $754 billion in 2011.

Europe, the Middle East and Africa, the second-largest market, will grow only slightly more quickly, at 5.5% a year to reach $617 billion. The fastest growing region will be Asia Pacific, ramping up at 9.6% a year to reach $470 billion by 2011.

Filmed entertainment is predicted to rise globally by 4.9% a year to $103 billion. TV network revenue will grow by 5.8% a year to $228 billion, but TV distribution will power ahead by 9.3% a year to $251 billion.

Even that growth rate, however, will be dwarfed by spending on Internet advertising and access, which will grow by 13.4% a year to $332 billion by 2011.

EMAIL FROM KRISHNA SHAH

Friends:

I am back in LA after seven months in India. You know how I feel about India. It is a rediscovery. Her past is well known.  But it’s the future that fascinates. Things change before your very eyes. Prosperity is rampant. Technology permeates the air. People network constantly. It is a land of entrepreneurs. From a street vendor  with a cell to the  CEO  of the newest multinational.  People cover for each other during natural disasters.  Slum kids form study groups in Mumbai. The quality of movies change before your very eyes.  India as a superpower is no longer a distant dream.
In this high state of energy and euphoria, a group has been formed by Bhuvan Lall, Ketan Mehta, Sudhir Mishra, Parminder Vir and Myself. It’s called INDEPEPENDANT INDIAN FILMMAKERS WORLDWIDE. (IIFW). The purpose of the organization to unite, network and interconnect with Indian filmmakers or filmmakers of Indian descent worldwide. Besides filmmakers, the group welcomes actors, technicians, writers, directors, potential investors or anyone connected with the films. The group intends to plan film festivals, writers groups, actors groups, marketing seminars, conferences and networking event every month.
IIFW had an opening event in Mumbai in March. It has an incredible start at Cannes Film Festival 2007 where five of its members announced the start of their independent films at a grand party. The group also conducted seminars, held press conference and other events
The worldwide chapters of IIFW are being formed: Kruti Majmudar is in charge of LA chapter and Parminder Vir, London chapter.
IAM has been in existence for nine years. Its contributions in the field of pioneering Indian Diaspora movies, writers groups, actors groups, networking, lobbying for the South Asian presence on TV and in Movies is well known and well documented.
Devendra Mishra, Somnath Sen and I have arranged this meeting of core members of IAM and its friends to discuss and transform IAM by making it part of IIFW. Either as an alliance or totally submerge into IIFW and work as one organization.
Let us meet and discuss. Let us introspect. Let us create a new blueprint, a new path, a new game plan.
Bhuvan Lall will be there to address the meeting and lay out the grand vision of IIFW. Kruti Majmudar will layout the logistics of the new organization in LA.

Please come. On Tuesday,  June 26th  2007, 7:30 PM at India’s Oven, The cost of the full course dinner and coffee/tea will be $20. Bring your like minded friends. There shall be a no host bar.  We will network, have fun and dream big serious dreams.

The address is INDIA’S OVEN, 11645, Wilshire Blvd, 2nd floor, Los Angeles, CA90023. Tel: 310 207 5522/310 918 9045. (The place is east of Barrington, across from 7/11 and the parking is below the restaurant, entrance on Barry Street.)
