Feud – Hindi Cine Stars Vs Politicians :: Latest SRK Vs Amar Singh !

Film stars often beat politicians in terms of popularity but ultimately it’s the power and their job’s defintion which gives politicians more edge over them.

Earlier era film stars gave respect to politicians and found respect in return. There are individual photos of Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand and Dilip Kumar’s with Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru. Sensible people, sensible and liberal era. When Naya Daur was made, rumours were spread that film opposes the industrialisation and Pt Nehru sent his representative to see the film and to know if there can be any film which opposes progress of the society. Prithvi Raj Kapoor, Sunil Datt, Balraj Sahni , Dilip Kumar etc supported national causes and Prithvi Raj Kapoor and Nargis Datt were first among the nominated film stars for Rajya Sabha.

When Dev Anand made Guide in hindi then Minister of I&B of that time, showed his fears that Dev’s film could raise uneasy questions in the society and it could be troublesome to show adultery of a married woman. Dev Anand reminded him that his own govt. has awarded Sahtiya Akademy award to the novel of RK Nayarayna and Pt Nehru had attended the ceremony. Minister got the message and film was released without any problem.

Came 70s, and during emergency few film stars got problem from the then I&B ministery and its minister VC Shukla: Kishor Kumar was the first such star who did not follow orders of VC Shukla and thus his songs were banned on AIR for sometimes. It was time of JP’s movement and Dev Anand was the first main cine stars who protested the wrong policies of VC Shukla, who was one among the members of close group of Sanjay Gandhi (Bansi Lal, Jag Mohan, Sidharth Shankar Ray etc).

Dev Anand even made a political party, National Party of India (NPI). Soon Pran also joined it and opposition leaders invited Dev Anand to address the public in their rallies. NPI got very nice response and many film stars and politicians were eager to join it. But majority of film stars did not wish to contest the election and preferred to be nominated in Rajya Sabha. Later Dev Anand got disillusioned with the politics and political leaders and closed the chapter of NPI. But perhaps that protest could be the reason that Dev Anand did not get Dada Saheb Phalke award till 2003(for 2002) and Pran is still in the waiting list and perhaps he will never get it. But it can’t be said as personal feud. It was more like fight of ideology and according to Dev Anand even Indira Gandhi had shown interest in his party NPI.

Another big feud between politicians and cine stars can be seen in the case of Amitabh Bachchan and most of the politicians belonging to Non-Congressi camps, during bofors scandal in last years of 80s. Even Mulayam Singh Yadav’s party was not left behind in making Amitabh as target.

It was the VP Singh’s rebel against Rajiv Gandhi which brought out two hindi cine stars Shatrughan Sinha and Raj Babbar, against Rajiv Gandhi (and Amitabh Bachchan), and duo had travelled with VP Singh all over the nation. Later Raj Babbar got associated with Mulayam Singh Yaday and Shatrughan Sinha’s path was turned towards BJP.

But first serious feud was started by Bal Thakray against Dilip Kumar. Sunil Datt and Dilip Kumar and to some extent Sunil Gawaskar had helped the victims of 1992-93 Bombay riots. Now all three had been Sherif of Bombay at some times in their life and Bombay city has been feeling lucky to have them as her citizens. Sunil Datt was politically nailed by bringing his son Sanjay Datt under TADA. Sunil Gawaskar was not political so was spared but Dilip Kumar became the target of Shiv Sena and Bal Thakray. Dilip Kumar went to Supreme court along with Mahesh Bhatt, against the Shiv Sena and Bajrang Dal’s ban over Deepa Mehta’s film fire. Protestors reached to Dilip Kumar’s house, wearing only under wears and shouted slogans for hours, against Dilip Kumar and Saira Bano. Later Dilip Kumar’s winning the Pakistan’s highest civil award, Nishan-i-pakistan fuelled the anger of Bal Thakray and he ordered Dilip Kumar to return it back. Dilip Kumar’s case is political but it was turned personal by his political opponents.

Aamir Khan and Narendra Modi is also political ideology case but that did not get much life though its not died completely and can raise its head again in future. Aamir’s films faced govt. supported bans in Gujarat.

Now latest is the feud between Shahrukh Khan and Amar Singh. It can be termed as personal feud but there are political implications also because SRK is treated as close to Nehru Gandhi family and Amar Singh and Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Samajwadi party are seen as die hard opponents of the family. And Amar Singh’s association with Amitabh Bachchan, brings more colour in to the matter as Bachchan family is also seen as now opponent of Nehru Gandhi family. Assembly polls are near in UP and political battle is touching every field of life. It can’t be humble anymore. With increasing legal trap over Mulayam Singh Yadav and his family, scene will become bitter as he can’t take it. After all, his image is of a socialite leader and charges of corruption just attack on his very image. Coming time will be interesting to see the mud of present day’s politics.

Coming back to Amar Singh and SRK. SRK passed two comments on Amar Singh during ceremony of film fare awards. SRK was one of the hosts of the show. He was commenting on his film KANK’s main theme and a girl was presented as somebodyelse’s wife and therefore centre of attraction for the males. While sending that girl down the stage towards audience he commented,” Dekhna Amar Singh ji, Tut mat Parhna is par. Aapki ankhon mein ek darindagi kee jhalak dikhai dee.” All laughed on this comment including Amar Singh. SRK continued his grin,” now he is going to send whole govt. after me”. This comment generated more laughter.

But later Amar Singh said in Delhi, that he would also humiliate SRK in public and later will apologize saying it was black humour.

Few people reached to SRK’s house in Bombay and shouted slogans against SRK. Its said neither SRK nor his wife was present in the house and kids were alone. Though its said that Amar Singh had denied that he had sent the people to show protest outside the house of SRK but few will buy this theory. But perhaps Amar Singh has chosen wrong person. SRK is not an easy target. SRK says whoever sits there in filmfare award ceremony is treated as part of film industry and we make jokes with everyone. Though it can be debatable that SRK’s remarks are fine or not but this is a good point that why Amar Singh has been attending almost every film award functions? Is he a film maker? Surely he has been having many filmi friends and earlier he used to sit with Boney Kapoor etc but being politically active he should understand the ground realities. Why he should attend each and every film function? Who and what he is there in Film world? Same is true with brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers and all relatives of filmi people who go in crowd to attend these functions. It is and should strictly be for active members of film fraternity and not for extended families of film stars.
In film fare awards, Amar Singh and parents of Aishwarya Rai were given seats in front row and several veteran film stars and active film stars were hided somewhere behind the crowd. What is contribution of these non filmi people in films? They are generating apathy for them, themselves with these kind of stupid actions.

Moreover Amar Singh’s own reputation is not of a political leader but of a political manager. He has no support in people as SRK draws. So hardly anyone can believe that Amar Singh has fans in India who reached there to ask apology from SRK. Neither Amar Singh and nor his party, holds power in Bombay as Bal Thakray has been having. Amar Singh is at loss. A wrong move from a smart political manager It seems this time a film star will win over a politician. SRK penetrates boundaries of cast and religion and thus has upper hand.

In this era when communication speed has been increased so much and electronic media brings any thing live before the eyes of millions living far away from the place of events, is it possible for a political manager like Amar Singh to over shadow a popular personality like SRK? Changing time? SRK surely raises good questions that if Amar Singh is disturbed by his comments he should have talked to him directly. SRK did not make Amar Singh’s kids fearful so Amar Singh should also not do same. A fair game!

Bal Thakray might have got something by targeting Dilip Kumar but Amar Singh and Mulayam Singh Yadav can not get any thing by targeting SRK. Equation is different, time is different. Bal Thakray’s vote bank differs from Samayvadi party’s vote bank.

SRK and Amar Singh’s case will surely bring politicians in to the size. Power of Internet will polarise the supporters and perhaps something good comes out of this useless conflict. But surely time is coming when people have to decide what is the good way to protest in a democracy to maintain a standard way of living. Hooliganism is not the way of democracy. Bal Thakray and Amar Singh and other politicians have to understand it. Film fraternity also has to think that this is the time when they should start behaving sometimes in collective manner. Nobody from film fraternity came in support of Dilip Kumar because all were afraid of Bal Thakray’s anger and power. This is the only Industry (if it is) which never beahves in collective manner, Period!

= this seems to be getting nasty. It was surprising to see SRK giving an interview in a loooong time in which he seemed to lose his cool.

SRK knows he erred by commenting what he did. He realized it
was wrong but instead of apologising he went on to defend his
actions which is wrong. He says he makes fun, agreed. I think
people in Film world have slept with more women than anybody
in any other professions. So why does he think only politicians
are womanizers, most or if not some but not as much as Film personalities.

So who is he kidding, he needs to control himself. He says he is
pathan and will defend his honour or some such bullshit, a kiddish
comment i thought. We love him for what he has acheived although
i dont think he is even a 50% of an actor he is made out to be.
NEverthless he is popular and conducts himself nicely unlike some stars.
HE has erred this time and he needs to watch out for.
I am amazed people are defending him. Only in India!!!

Raj: Amar Singh could sue SRK, if he thought he
was insulted. He laughed at the function when comment was passed.
Was it only gentleman’s conduct before the crowd? He did not need
to issue statment later in delhi. If it was insulting he could have done protests right there
at the function. He did in Zee’s award show abroad
when AB was given seat in some 12th or 15th row.
SRK’s comments are debatable. But Sending people to SRK’s house to shout slogans
    is far more severe act.
Its conduct in pubilc which defines the image of
a person if today you find people defending SRK
then it has more to do with bad image of Amar
Singh. Amar Singh has been commenting on lots of
people in the past and that too in filmi manner.
One I recall was on Hema Malini during last
Loksabha Elections. Amar Singh had said, what
Hema Malini can do, her Baghban (AB) is with us.
Now Hema’s real life Baghban is Dharmendra and
not AB. A politician should opt more sane
behaviour than any other person in society.
And then there is a long list of his comments on Sonia Gandhi.
Comemnts on Amar Singh is not a severe matter, he is old
player of comment bazi and he could have done same with
SRK. but sending crowd to somebody’s home…. !
    A questionable conduct altogather.

both are from the same category. One does drama in public and other is a professional drama artiste.
SRK has gained a remarkable succes, no doubt that too without having any filmy family background.
He also has a good numbers of succesful films. He also has the fan following. But at same time all
these achievments does not give the power to do irresponsible behaviour in public. Rather he should
have ignored Amar Singh. There was no need of commenting. If he thinks it was neccessary to give
some stupid comments just to entertain the entertainment people, he could have been targeted some
one from film fratenity. AND this is not the first time he has commented like this, if you could remember,
perhaps you could not, there was a function in Sirifort Auditorium in New Delhi for the inaugration of a
Video/Audio Album made of the poems of then Prime Minister Mr. Atal Bihari Bajpai. SRK had acted in that
video. While programme was going live through DD1, SRK commented on politicians and NIKAMMAS,
BESHARMS etc in front of very august invitess. Mr. Bajpai has tolrated his comments by saying nothing
on his childish act in a very importatnt event. So my point is that SRK perhaps forgot the humanity ,
humbleness and etiquetes to behave in public after getting so much success. EVERYBODY PRAISES HIM
AND WILL CRTICISE ALSO TO BRING HIM TO THE SIZE IN WHICH HE IS RIGHTLY FITS. Success does not
give any one right to insult anyone in public or private. Time is a big teacher. Everyday is not sunday
there are cloudy days also exists in anyones career. A wise and succesful man keeps todays success
    for the tomorrows cloudy days.

aghori: This is good you mentioned the Video, based on, Mr Ataj Bihari Vajpai’s poems
and directed by Yash Chopra. Perhaps you did not see the program with proper attention
otherwise you would not have commented like that. SRK did not say what you are quoting.
given status of PM Vajpai, at that time, it shd be understood that Vajpai’s team asked SRK
to work in the video. It was not other way round. He was popular and they wanted to bring
mass appeal to that video, otherwise Mr Vajpai has been writing poetry since 1950, any
body cared in last 50 years what he has been writing?

SRK showed his humour and bravery in that program and it was not kiddish. Not everyone was
capable in those years to say such things in presence of Mr Vajpai and big leaders of BJP.
Veer Sanghvi has written somewhere that he was shown door before his interview was finished when
he tried to cut jokes with Mr Vajpai.
BTW, SRK said,” When offer came to me, I had thought, PM hain, aise hee log unkee poetry ke liye kuch karna
chahte hain, but when I read them then I thought Rajniti ne nikamma kar diya warna poetry mein kitna achcha
karte, as he is a damn good poet”. He had said his sayings on the basis of the urdu sher,
Ishq ne Ghalib Nikkama kar diya warna ham bhee adami the kaaam ke.
he had askeed Javed Akhtar, sitting there in audience, if he had quoted it correctly? Whole BJP team (including Mr Vajpai) was
laughing and enjoying as a super star was entertaining them and had become ready to be featured in a
poetry based video. I doubt if it was not directed by Yash Chopra then SRK would have done that video?
Pls watch the video again and enjoy the humour:)

I am very sorry guys I said all those things about Shahrukh Khan. The thing is I am a little insecure about my own homosexuality which is why something in me forced me to use that in an attempt to speak ill about Shahrukh. Also I was madly in love with him at one point and when he turned me down Amarsingh was the only person who consoled me and gave me some TLC. Again, I am very sorry for the things I said. I don’t hate him. Sometimes, the heat of the moment can be a little too hot to handle.

And which muslim actor or say a famous muslim person, holds false agression in his/her behaviour?
and for that matter how many muslims you have seen holding such behaviour?

and if its false aggressive behaviour than it should come under the category of Acting!!!!
So in your opinion most of them are actors, though in real life?
