Filmfare’s Knotty List

I suppose the technical nominees have not been announced or Filmfare will do it at a later date (or never) or the cine-thinking man’s (and woman’s) site ran out of HTML space.

As usual and has been the trend for the last few years, Filmfare moves along it’s safe and chosen path who’s destination seems to be Film-Miss this-Fare… Another suck up list finds its way to the trash can… Really, why even spend so much time and money on awards and ceremonies anymore. It would be much better for us that we face the pain in one joint mutual ceremony where Filmfare, Screen, Star and the million other award functions collect together at Pragati Maidan and we can get all the pain they wanna give us in one day, instead of bombarding us every second week for the rest of the year!

I’m wondering why Johnny Gaddaar is being ignored so tragically at the awards, for this is a film that is head and shoulders above anything that has been attempted this year.
    One of the top entertainers I’ve seen all year;
I’m not sure but has its brilliance been forgotten?

    Bhaiyya Satish,
this is how the film industry or rather the award giving industry functions… tension nahi lene ka for an audience to feel that a certain film has not got a nomination i guess in itself is like an award as your opinion matters more than the dead trophy buddy… Thank god they atleast considered Imtiaz worth it… Shimit no doubts did a fabulous job by finally making sir to act.

Something that I never get is multiple nominations for the same person in a category … so they’ve got 2 for SRK in Best Actor this year … which means to say that both the performances were at par with each other at a minimum (I am not even trying to compare him to others here). Besides they already have 4 other candidates to fill the 5-best performances in a leading role criteria. It’s a shame for FilmFare to actually resort to this to please somebody.

Besides were either of SRKs performances better than the ones that he’s already won Filmfare trophy for … i think his best was in Swades and Kabhi Han Kabhi Na.

For Abhishek/Shahid – it does seem to be their breakthrough performances … at least in what they have done so far.

Darsheel should walk away with the award in an ideal scenario – but I doubt that it’ll happen.

Akshay should never be on any list for acting awards. Entertainer, yes – actor, no.

Dont even want to touch the nomination for Deepika. Farah should get a special recogniation award for the most entertaining pot-boiler or the year – not for Best Director.

Where is TZP music director recognition … though they seem to be recognising the medicrity of Saawariya.

Where is Shankar M. nomination for Maa and TZP title song … any lesser man would’ve messed up Maa for sure.

Johnny Gadar – what an awesome film – yet no recognition.

Strange ways that this award-industry functions … though they do put up one hell of a show every year.

What i am surprised is….every review, every person, every dog praised Black Friday so high…there was none, i mean NO FUCKING ONE who did not like Black Friday….then why doesnt it “even” deserve a nomination? leave alone winning one…either the critics are stupid for praising the movie, or i guess Film fare awards worls in reverse proportionality to “acclaimed” movies….as soon as it is acclaimed, it automatically gets dis-qualified for a nomination….and as well might give a “tukda” award…saying ” critics award”….if critics award are decided by cine-critic…then who decides the rest of the “non-critical” award?

It really is a shame…thoooo makki kirkiri

These awards are meaningless anyway since they measure commercial success and/or popularity.

No nomination for ManoramaSFU, Black friday, Dharam, Jhonny G.. SO BLOODY UNFAIR… why is the world like this man…WIll they let new talent surface…

And Madhuri for aaja nach le and Guru [blotch on Mani Ratnam] And I just want to add this bit, because I am still wondering,, whether Darsheel’s nomination amongst the other experienced actors is justified. Have we moved a step forward, giving him the due by considering a child as a lead actor, or being so very unfair[ which they already are, by measuring him with these other stalwarts [?] Deepika Padukone for oso..omg.. THIS IS THE STANDARD WE ARE SETTING FOR OURSELVES..I think Gul Panang was miles ahead. .

Where is Abhay Deol [ MSFU] Pawan Malhotra [BF] Pamkaj Kapoor [Dharam]… If this is the standards
the awards are setting for the audience and the filmmakers.. are they the ones also in a way contributing to the stagnation of our hindi phillums… that is if Awards ever matterred…

Which I think matters a lot to the aam junta [because of its over hype] and the phillumstars… because they flock towards these commercial awards like no bodies business but when it comes to gatherings of Ocian and Miff and other fests awards they are absconding….

  27. I really really hate Awards functions in India. They so well resemble the school I used to study in when I was way younger. The school always had a annual day and this was the typical studious school in Bangalore. So the events for about 5 years were like this. The kid whose mother visited the school each day ended up singing or dancing in the first song (This will have to be either Shahid or Saif in films) , then there would be a recitation of a song by the girl who got the first rank (This will have to be either one of the YRF/Johar Camp girls or Kareena as she is supposed to be the cats whiskers now), then there will be a event coordinator who would be the star pupil (Here is will always be either SRK or Karan or the know-it-all Sajid Khan) and then the principal will come out and give the awards to all the earlier people (Yash Ji giving awards to the earlier listed folks). In School, I used to always give the annual day a miss after attending it for 2 years. Now I just click the remote to a more interesting channel

Guys, forget it..Movies do not get nominated here. Like all awards, this is also fixed and people who are liked by people get awards. Simple.

To answer Why Black Friday, Johnny Gaddar & MFSU do not get awards, very simple DUDE. Duh as Homer Says..You can only give awards to films you see..These are not films..How can the be seen by the INTELLECTUAL FILM FRATERNITY. Its for us losers (read movie lovers) to see it and appreciate it.

Bloody shitty awards. Let them take it and stick it nice and hard where it should really belong..

I agree that most of these nominations are crappy. Also that Indian awards don’t always award the best.. I agree with most things mentioned here..

But one thing disturbs me a little and that is the way all of us on PFC are, even if subconciously, becoming anti-popular cinema. Why are most of us only criticizing popular films? I agree Black Friday, Johnny.. etc definitely deserved nominations, and even awards. But this is a trend that I see on PFC – that most people criticize Shah Rukh, love Irrfan, hate Karan Johar, love Anurag Kashyap, follows the Oscars, hates the Indian film awards.. Can’t one just love ‘cinema’?? I dont know if anyone sees my point, but I hope we dont become a clan that is created just to criticise what the world does.. I hope we are all not becoming cynics-in-the-making..

Didnt we always know that our awards mostly suck?? What’s the point in getting bitter about it??? Rather, let’s just start doing something to clean the muck.. And I dont think that begins with collectively abusing.

  34. oz oz says:

Reading your comments and further researching it online, I have finally understood what “Popular” awards means. It does not mean the movie was a hit or a super hit. I am happy to see that Filmfare has not chosen only those movies that were declared “hits” by the media (irrespective whether the producer was fulling forms for new bank accounts or for bankruptcy) – case in point. Laga Chunari Mein Daag. La Chu Me Da is popular cinema. It spent a lot of cash in spreading the word about the film from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, helping people’s economic lives take a positive step or two (or three).

And that is a very heartening thing. It is not about hit or flop movie, but popular movies – movies like La Chu Me Da that spend a lot of money to generate awareness about the movie during the release of the movie right upto the various award functions.

Hence now I am leaning towards the Filmfare for giving the cleanest list possible I have seen in ages.

Though a tiny beef oz do having Filmfare with.

I think the most popular movie should have been “Red Swastika” – why is it not mentioned in the popular list is beyond my understanding. A movie which is now freely circulated around the entire Indian (only the thurkee kind) diaspora around the world. Viagra has been discarded. Pfizer’s executives are shaking nervously in their seats. They have a punch in your face competition that they have never experienced before. And it comes from a man who has been going on and on and on and on and on in Bollywood. Jee Haan, Bhaiyyon aur Behenon (Hinglish: Oh yes, Bros and Sises) Vinod Pandey has created the popular cinema of all time in Red Swa.

Why is not Red Swa on the list? Why? How could filmfare criminally ignore the massive unbelievable shocking twisted contours the face of Sherlyn Chopra gets into – during those love making scenes with men hairy grizzlies. Those out of proportion facial contortions that would put to shame the almost illegal body twisting done by those yoga experts.

I had never before Red Swa even given a thought to exercising my eyelids. This is an entire new industry and will be making so much money. Lifting those 100 pound fake eyelashes is indeed a popular thing amongst Red Swa fans the world over.

Red Swa is popular cinema. And shame on Filmfare for not including the director, actress, story writer, actress, actress, assets in their nominee list.
