First Look: Cheeni Kum/ Munnabhai Chale Amerika

Just checked out the net for some latest trailer action and came across these- the Munnabhai promo is of course out with Eklavya in theatres- haven’t seen it…looks good but a little overdramatic- but the Cheeni Kum promo is not out in India yet. Anyway, both look great! Take a look-

PS:Neck deep in studies right now- my boards are bloody 15 days far and I’m sh**ing hot bricks! Also, 2 silly but interesting observations that came to my mind:

Amitabh has just done Eklavya and Abhishek is now doing Drona- is he really turning into Amitabh’s Guru? Hehe!

Also, rather curiously Bhansali’s former mentor VV Chopra, now seems to be showing shades of his protege with a similarly theatrical (and sometimes over the top) style of filmmaking!

OK, see you-gang!

    SHIT>>>>>sala……

the Chini Kum title song is a direct lift from Mani Ratnam’s Mouna Ragam….composed by Illayaraja….

    the original song.

    Song: Mandram Vandha Thendralukku
    Movie: Mouna Raagam
    Year: 1986
    Singer: SP Balasubramanian
    Actors: Karthik, Mohan, Revathi
    Music: Ilayaraja
    Raaga: keeravaaNi

    The original song

= Darn… and I was quite impressed by the trailer of Chinni Kum. The Munnabhai Chale Amerika trailer is real funny and generates quite curiosity. Coming to trailers I watched the trailer of “Talisman” which showed or didn’t show anything… what are they getting into?

  3. anantha on February 19th, 2007 12:43 pm

Interesting mix. I am waiting to hear the full song, if at all it ends up in the album.

Bah! At least now the rest of the world discovers IR. Better late than never, I guess. But I can’t ever tell you how sick I have been in the past when people claim he copied from the Hindi songs that his works ACTUALLY inspired.

    Prime example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owiXDr1xQ8Y

Note to others: If any of you haven’t listened to this original ever before, please wait till the song ends and hear the stupendous guitar solo that closes the song. The sound quality is slightly bad, but it gives a hint of what Bollywood has missed in the past 25 years or so.

Cheeni’s music is also by Illayaraja!

  5. Baarishh on February 19th, 2007 12:50 pm

hmmm.. Munnabhi chale america seems quite funny… i wonder how it’ll be… but never heard of Chinni Kum before… it looks interesting but whats up with the theme of age difference :|

  6. Dpac on February 19th, 2007 12:55 pm

I saw Talisman promo tooo. Dodgy Sfx to say the least. Wish they waited to get it done right than get it done right away. The whole Amitabh getup goes wasted.. sheeeeeeesh

  7. OM on February 19th, 2007 12:58 pm

Yeah at the screening of Eklavya they had tons of trailers last night…I loved Cheeni kum trailer..not quite impressed with Munna series…the jokes were too childish..what we used to tell each other when we were in 7th grade….I also do not find the idea of Munna in Ummmreica any exciting…

Talisman i believe is india’a answer to Lord Of The Rings…

Heard AB is acting in Shantaram with Johnny Depp, Produced by Depp and Bradd Pitt…

  8. Baarishh on February 19th, 2007 1:05 pm

i didnt know AB was also in Shantaram.. i thought Chunky Pandey was in it…

  9. anantha on February 19th, 2007 6:08 pm

Jahan: Thanks for the info! I did not realize that.

I found a link about it.

Looks like Cheeni kum is going to have his numbers from movies like Mouna Raagam and Mella Thirandadhu Kanavu - the latter one of his biggest hits of the 80s.

Anyone know how the soundtrack of RGV’s Shiva was received?

  10. Vasan on February 19th, 2007 9:52 pm

OM man somehow thats kind of what i felt when i was watching the Munna Bhai promo….a tad disappointed….we used to do this in school..but still this is just a promo…..hope the director can pull it off in the full length feature.

  11. Jahan Bakshi on February 19th, 2007 11:22 pm

Baarishh: Chunky is also supposed to be there in a small role as himself. The book is based on the author’s real life story as a runaway convict in Mumbai. Supposedly, while in Mumbai, the author/protagonist was an ‘extra’ in a film featuring Chunky- hence the Chunky connection! Amitabh will play a pivotal role as Kader Bhai.

Anantha: The Shiva soundtrack was poorly received- hardly anyone has really heard the songs, atleast in India.

Vasan: Though I personally liked the promo, no need to be disappointed- the movie is not even written yet- this is just a promo shot before the actual making of the film to generate curiosity.

Seriously Om…tumne meri aakhen khol di- enough is enough- gotta rush back to my studies….bye!

  14. Phoenixnu on February 20th, 2007 2:23 am

Yes, bcz the film’s director Balkrishnan (known as Balki…well known ad guy) is big fan of Illayraja. He must have asked him to recreate all those stuff.

About Talisman…its based on Devki Nandan Khatri’s Chandrakanta. Its amzing story with full of all kind of special effects…if u guys remember that serial Chandrakanta. Has all the potential to become Indian Lord of the Rings. Lets c how it turns out to be. Ram Madhvani is going to direct it…he is well known ad filmmaker. Has done one documentary on Amitabh Bachchan as well. He is the guy who discovered Boman Irani in his short film Lets Talk.

CHEEN KUM- it sounds like a Chinese Porn Film ;)

  16. Hibachi on February 21st, 2007 10:50 am

Looks like even Munnabhai gang has started lifting.. the whole translating Hindi sayings into English word for word is lifted from Shankardada MBBS (telugu remake of Munnabhai MBBS).. where Chiranjeevi to impress the dean (Paresh rawal) translates Telugu sayings into English

  17. sk on February 21st, 2007 11:15 pm

Munnabhai hindi to English maybe an old thing, but take it with a pinch of salt guys. Its nice fun, and the chemistry between the two is great. leave ur brains at home, laugh at the silliness and just have a fun time. They are way better than the K3G and KANK crap that the big banner Johar and Yash Chopra dish out!
