First Look: Gandhi, My Father
WOW! The curtains are finally up from Anil Kapoor’s heavily guarded production Gandhi, My Father…and the promos just look superb! The film which stars Akshaye Khanna as Harilal Gandhi and Darshan Zariwala as the Mahatma himself, is directed by noted theatre personaliy Feroz Abbas Khan and based on the play Mahatma v/s Gandhi.
The subject matter looks to be extremely compelling and I, for one can’t wait for one of Bollywood’s most promising films in a long time, when it releases in August (in Hindi AND English- which I think is most unnecessary, but…). The film also stars Shefali Shah as Kasturba and Bhumika Chawla as Harilal’s wife.

Take a look!

Manan paaji, your right man. Right from Border and Aa Ab Laut Chalen, Akshaye Khanna has been a brilliant, expressive, versatile actor. There was a time I thought he’d be the “next Aamir Khan” with style and choice of films. Still remember that scene in Dil Chahta Hai where he slaps Aamir… I’ve seen it countless times and their intensity still draws me in… I think RK or someone should do a bio/filmography on him… he is by the THE MOST underrated actor of our time.
Akshaye Khanna is anything but underrated!
He has this standard smirk on his face which is so annoying.

Oh come on Mainak yaar… watch that scene in DCH where Dimple analyzes his art… just the look on his face… thats a sign of an actor who understands his character, the emotions and the scene very well. Several other such moments exsist in DCH, Humraaz, Deewangee, Hungama, Hulchul, Aa Ab Laut Chalen, Border, even Salaam-E-Ishq. And not all of these were well-directed or even good films.
Its a damn shame more directors can’t offer this guy the chance to shine. If I had a choice to take up any hero to start a film tommorow Akshaye Khanna would easily be one of my topmost choices.
At least this year Akshaye Khanna fans (like Manan, myself and hopefully more likeminded ppl on this site) can look forward to Gandhi-My Father as well as 2 Abbas Mustan Films (Naqab & Race). He’s got an extended cameo in “Aaja Nachlay” as well, which should be worth looking forward too.
Wait wait wait… I just IMDB’d Akshaye Khanna… And I see a film called “When Kiran Met Karen”… the writer/director of which is our very own… Manan Singh Katohara?? I feel like a floop! Is this true yaar? Can you eloborate on this project?
TONY…. Akshaye is overrated. He does some OK roles once in a while & people go wah wah…. DCH was good I agree. Every actor gets a couple of good movies in their life time esp if they are kids of Superstars like Vinod Khanna.
“Akshaye is the example of ANDHO MEIN KANA RAJA”

Mainak bhai, I think its best if we agree to disagree. I like Akshaye Khanna because I like the way he portrays his characters. It might be a purely subjective thing so there’s really not much a point to argue about it.
Akshaye Khanna is the best actor I have ever seen! Akshaye Khanna is even better than Saif Ali Khan! Akshaye Khanna should have act in Hum Tum with Rani Mukherji and in Salaan Namaste with Preity Zinta! I wonder how it’s possible that Aditya Chopra, Kunal Kholi, Siddarth Anand don’t recognize Akshaye Khanna’s potential! I don’t know what to say! I can’t ignore the fact that Akshaye Khanna is the best artist in Indian Cinema! He has proven his talents in both good and bad movies! He is much better than other popular actors!
Akshaye Khanna is the best actor in India, amir Khan and became what he is for the careful selection of movies, not because of acting brilliance, they were superstars because of the stories he acted in the best example is “Sarfarosh” a hit because of good story and direction, with a very ordinary performance of Amir Khan.
But if you see Akshaye Khanna even his utter flop film like Dehk deserves national Award for the sheer performance in it. Have you ever seen that movie ?? See the climax, for 5 minutes your hair stands up, the way he delivers the dialogs and the intensity, none in India could deliver them, he has rythm in his dialog delivery which can only be acquired when an actor lives the role..
.
He is a born actor, I am from Vijaywada, and I am a Telugu and I am big fan of him, I see only his movies, for his performances…and comparatively I do not see other actors movies because the quality of acting is poor, and u know the story is a copy of either Hollywood or south Indian movies…
