Free Tickets For Silicon Valley Residents of PFC Plus Would You Make Danny/Kelly The Hero of Your Film?

Hi Folks,

Administering SAAFA, have managed to get hold of more than a few free press passes for National Lampoons Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj . The screening is next Thursday, Nov 30, 2006, at 7:00 pm at Santa Clara,CA (close to San Jose). In case any of the readers on this site live in Silicon Valley (inadvertently called a city, by Dev Anand in Love in Time Square), please respond and I will get you the tickets organized. The momentum that is beginning will depend a lot on the outcome of this. Could it be a flash in the pan, like the late Persis Khambatta coming with Sly Stallone and Billy De Williams in Night Hawks, or is this the start of a Lucy Liu kind of trend? Who knows, only time will tell…..and the ticket sales!

This film has historic implications for the South Asian American folks trying to break into Hollywood. This is the first time a MALE SOLE LEAD INA MAJOR STUDIO FILM IS SOUTH ASIAN. The honor goes to Kalpen Modi, who goes by the screen name of Kal Penn. He was earlier co-lead with John Cho in Harold & Kumar, but this is the first time solo. The box office fate of this film will largely determine, for now, the odds of this becoming a trend as opposed to an exception.

Have to acknowledge Hollywood for this!! Liken it in Bollywood to the multi talented Danny Dengzongpa or more recently Kelly Dhorji becoming regulars as leads. This is an anology I always give to folks who say that Hollywood is a color conscious. Folks, the honest truth is Bollywood is too!! At the end of the day, the color of Hollywood is green ($$$$$), so would urge even the worst critic of Van Wilder and Kal to come out and see this movie and ask your friends and certainly your enemies to do so too, that will increase the box office revenue.

I don’t believe in the preach approach and live life in a stress free live and let live mode, hence don’t do this cause I or anyone else said so, do this, cause chances are it could be one of you, in a couple of years trying to break into Hollywood in some capacity or the other and this film’s fate could be the path or door which leads you to Sunset Boulevard in the City of Angles.

Sincerely,

Vivek “dreams carry no value, but net present value does” Kumar
