From the sets of Bhram

The outsiders think of film industry as extremely risky, where the Stars make billions, while the others are left poor. There are so many money making businesses/professions involved other than acting or directing. One of them is renting out the gadgets used in the films in art department. On the sets of ‘Brahm’ there was a plasma TV, which costed 7000rs/day, a music system 5000/day, which were used for 8-9 days. So imagine after renting for less than a month the plasma is paid for. You make money selling it. Then there are people who have made fortune by just renting out the wood in films. There are caterers, security companies, editing/sound/mixing studios, etc.

A normal make-up artist charges anywhere between 2000-3000 rs/shift. A special makeup man was hired, who belonged to the ad/fashion industry. His charges were @16000rs/shift. Half a day was lost as he had an emergency situation and could not be on sets. I remember Sunny Deol’s make-up man. He and his wife both are into same profession. They own 2-3 flats in Andheri West, which today run into crores. Then we have camera people, who are in great demand. Script writers, editors, sound recordists and so many other professionals. The list is endless. If a person knows the work he makes good money. Off course there are people, who have spent their entire lives in this profession but have nothing. A few, who were stars once, died penniless.

Dino is a funny guy with weird sense of humor. Pavan and Dino can not stop pulling each other’s leg. Dino even kept a nickname for Pavan, which would be better to hear from horses’s mouth? While shooting a kitchen scene, Sheetal/Dino have to make eggs. Dino’s dialogues were,” Do you like your eggs fried or scrambled?” Dino with his sense of humor suggested the improvised dialogues to Pavan,”Do you like your eggs fried or fertilized?” I think Pavan accepted the improvised version?

The walls of Sheetal’s apartment were decorated with Hussains and Souzas. Establishing a rich person’s house. The colors and lighting were kept warm giving a romantic touch to the interiors.

Then there was a scene, where it is suppose to rain. The water was pumped from a tanker to 12th floor and was sprinkled. It was quite an effort to get the sprinklers just right for the screen. The images looked great, with water casting shadows on actor’s expressions.

Pavan likes using Jimmy Jib on tracks. Timing of the actors, camera’s tilting/panning, movement of trolley sometimes requires quite a few retakes. Pavan also uses lot of still shots and tracking shots. He is very clear about, where the shot would be cut and the sequence of the shots.

    Manjeet,

Great shots, mainly of Sheetal ey ;)

I had no idea that rentals would be so expensive. That’s a great deal of expense they have to incur.
