Content : FROZEN – A Film Of Colors

I had heard Frozen is a black and white film, but after watching it i will disagree.
It had so many colors of life and that’s too beautifully painted. Gauri’s love for his brother, her ambiguity regarding her boyfriend, Karma (Danny) struggle to make a living …. all these were so wonderful shades of life.

I really felt for Danny’s character (Karma), who works so hard to make Jam, struggles to save his house, travels to even higher peaks against the glaciers to sell jam so that he can buy gifts for his daughter. It reminded of people like my father who know only hard work, honesty, integrity and love for their children. Rarely we find such ‘RAM’ characters in today’s times.

Aungchuk and Gauri as brother/sister left a deep impression on me. What touched me was their innocence and playfulness. One of the scenes where Gauri throws stones at Army tells her about fearlessness that she probably gained from her father. Her ambiguity whether to run away with her boyfriend was also nicely done and that ends in an amazing shot which kinda says it without words (I think it will be unfair to reveal the shot and how that subplot ends -:) ). I think both Gauri and Aungchuk have done a superb job considering its their first film.

The film climax was completely unpredictable and unconventional at least for me and the only words that came out of my mouth was – “Ah…Very Nice, Very Very Nice”. ( I shouldn’t reveal the climax, so i refrain talking more about it)

Although at some small segments in the film, i felt that the visual element is taking over the story element which i have not been used to but then i asked myself. . what’s wrong with that since the visuals are in the context of the story and they are stunning and engaging by themselves, so i put by guards down and let my eyes experienced the heaven.

While watching the film i felt like i am living in Ladakh and watching these characters’ life. And when the film finished i just wanted to go to Ladakh and look for these characters, thats the impact it left on me.
i still remember some shots/ scenes in the film so vividly …those were really beautiful images. Other films that i have watched which use Landscapes as metaphors are Frozen River (to some extent), Seven Years in Tibet, Mongol and The Paino. But this Indian film is a certainly a rarity and a gem.

I think it is finally releasing on 8th May, and i am keenly looking forward to view it once more purely for its visual purity.
Kudos to Shivajee Chandrabhushan, Shanker Raman, the entire crew and cast to have the balls to transcend the human boundaries to make such a spectacle. I am in awe!!!

Great post. Yes, it reminds me of the time when we used to talk about it during our pre-production. And now since it is finally coming out, am all set to go for it. Only few people know that it is Danny’s 150th film. I even wrote its preview, two years back. Here is the link-
